LGO4X is a good phone and I am sure your brother will like it. I have seen both S3 and 4X, the latter is far better in terms of build quality and look/feel.

You should ask your brother.
He'll be the one using it.
If someone asks me if I prefer a Alfa Romeo or a Mercedes, I'll answer Alfa Romeo, no matter if Mercedes is better or not.
Passion is something more powerfull than any other thing!

It's a bit easier with phones, though.
I suppose.. if you're buying a phone with a huge screen anyway, then you would probably want:
-as good media playback as possible.
-the best battery life when the phone is in use, and on idle.
-the most connectivity options.
-the most solid frame.
-best media options.
The 4x has the best build, best idle battery life, best battery life while playing back media (by far - even if it will last more normally while under load, while playing games, etc.). Also has the slimmest frame with the least plastic (which isn't saying much, but it still beats the s3). Replaceable battery and sdcard. Universal hdmi connector, that sort of thing.
What the s3 has is better advertisement, LTE (if you live in NY and work at the stock exchange that might be great), and a better camera. Everyone wants to touch it, and it makes you cool just having it in your pants.
On the downside it feels like a toy when you actually try it.
It does have a better camera, though.

I sold my s3 and hox and got the 4x instead didn't regret it just the lag of Roms is might be a decision for some not to take. All in all it is a great phone. Even sold my note 2 as well. We'll money played a factor too. Hands down the 4x has the lowest resale value.

The update policy is a pain, no doubt about that.
Then again. Being able to actually uninstall all the LG apps, and not have the device mysteriously break from services the phone relies on, that sort of thing. I prefer that over having a package of apps I can't uninstall without root, that have been fused to the rom package, and then is maintained every three weeks (with a new package of "yay, pick me!!" buttons...
And it's not like ICS will be outdated very quickly.. so.. Would obviously like to hear from LG something about: "yes, we're aiming for a version update instead of just fixes for a 6 month period after the original release". Or optionally: "we're going to officially support it for 6 months - and then we're releasing an open bootloader". That would have been great.
But then again - what sort of phone can you buy nowadays that is intended to be supported for several years?
Still.. to recommend a phone. And then people get disappointed, because.. of something. And then you say: "oh, just fiddle around a bit" with the phone before it works, and uninstall a bunch of apps to get some weird 3rd party root access thread to stop draining the battery, then go amok on the store and find the apps you actually need... I mean, you can't really do that.
I mean, I can do that here. But it's not something you would do if you sold someone a phone in a store. You know... "Yeah, this phone is for people who aren't dumb as **** and listen to hit-music because everyone else likes it! Hahaha!".
Won't get away with that. Sadly.

I have the same problem!
For the same price I can buy a new:
Samsung Galaxy S2
LG Optimus 4X HD P880
Sony Xperia S
Need advice!

The LG Optimus 4X is quad-core, obviously more future-proof than the others. Plus its got the best screen, especially compared to the SGII's low resolution. Between these 3 phones, the LGO 4X is the better choce hands down.

Sony is developer friendly and has a great screen and camera. O4X has a lot more power, plus also a great screen. Samsung S2 has none of them, except development due to the popularity.

Tnx to all. What about the screen. I've read that optimus has no screen protection (gorilla glass).

Who knows. ..but it does have chemically treated glass that looks and feels exactly the same as every other device out there. The shell is put together on the same factory, etc.

Hmm... on some web sites is written that is has no gorilla glass than on other that it has gorrila glass!
Is it Scratch resistent?

U always can get screen protectors regardless u get those fine scratches over time even on gorilla glass because sand is still a killer for it. And for some reason the screen on the 4x without a screen protector smudges so badly it isn't even a joy using it. U gonna be wiping it clean all the time.

Well for me it's better not to have this oleofobic coating, since it wears off after some time, that is if you play games.
My Galaxy 1 and 2 had this issue, so I wished so bad that it wasn't even there from the start :silly:

I think that this time LG Optimus 4X HD P880 will be my next phone! I had 3 years ago one LG Arena and I was so :crying: because I had allot of trouble with it. I only wish that I'm not makeing a mistake now!

what is it Corning writes in their portfolio again? "Due to agreements with our customers[read: handset makers], your device may not be listed... but may have Corning Gorilla Glass anyway", etc. Or something like that.
But yes, it is scratch resistant, and it breaks without creating splinters, etc. It probably is Gorilla Glass. But we may never know for certain
Btw, doubt you will be unhappy with the phone. Lightweight rom, not much else than the intro-screen is forced. Sadly, no message blip indicator.. lol.. so weird. Relaxing if you don't care when people call, and just are pleasantly surprised when you discover someone did, etc.. But weird choice nevertheless..
And if updates to the latest Android rom is important to you... or you dislike LG's "brand exclusive program and game offer" policy (even if it's only in Taiwan or where it was).. or you think the device manufacturer should offer a more streamlined service - that you shouldn't need to hunt around for apps to do basic things, and have huge links to "common tasks". Then LG isn't the best choice at the moment.
..then again, when thinking about the same thing, everyone else are actually worse (until you root your device and install a custom rom).. so there's that.

Should I change my nexus to this phone ?

Hi every one
I was thinking to change my galaxy nexus to LG optimus 4x HD .
And I was wondering if LG will ever unlock the bootloader
If lg wont unlock the bootloader I will not buy this phone
Sent From My Google GALAXY NeXuS
Nexus is a good phone. Why change it? You have newest updates and launcher is smoother than on LG. My girlfriend has Galaxy Nexus and I like it more than my 4X.
There is a high propability that LG will never unlock bootloader. Nobody knows if or when it will be unlocked, because LGs information politic is horrible.

LG O4X is an awesome device and really attractive, but still until now there is no boot-loader unlocker. So, I think LG will not let this device dead because if they don't make the device unlocked bootloader, the customer will not buy any product of LG .. They will lose much money ( Disaster )
I really make sure that the boot-loader will unlock
Best regards,

@Ozeer, you think that LG cares about that?
Most part of the people use the phone like they use the car, the computer, etc... they turn on use what/how they know/can and while it works its perfect.
If I knew for example that the camera was so bad, I'd choosed another phone independentely of the bootloader be or not locked.
Camera its an issue, cause if the bootloader is locked, most part of the people don't even know what that is but, a bad camera no one wants.
I'm in the same situation. I've got a Galaxy Nexus but I hate the grainy screen and lack of expandable memory. I'm just gonna order the LG 4X and try it out. If I don't like it I can always send it back. The lack of custom rom development is a bit worrying.

The 4X's screen is superb, but the Galaxy Nexus' one didn't seem that bad. Expendable memory is one thing, but the encrypted bootloader results in zero development for this device. LG doesn't care, they earn their money with fridges and TVs and it seems they blow out new mobile phones every month.

I'm pretty sure I got one with a duff screen. But I bought it in Malaysia and I'm now in London.
I've been flashing custom roms weekly since 2006 so It might be a fun challenge to not flash a custom rom for a whole year or two.
DONT
wait for the new nexus *thats what im doing*
probably gonna go with the new htc dlx or optimus nexus 4
The 4x hd is great even the camera doesn't seem to be an issue at all. And I even kept the 4x as my daily driver sold the s3 one x and even didn't keep my note and note 2. This phone offers the best boom for the buck and it does everything the one x does and the screen seems nicer on the 4x then the screen on the s3. And this device is very good looking. The it seems smaller then the s3 actually. I didn't had one issue with this phone and battery seems pretty decent. Specially if u install the quad gear box app for the phone. Is specially for the 4x it seems to make it even last a tab longer. All in all a great device. Yes lack of Roms is a downer but the installed software performs quite nice. Other then before on lg phones.

i think it sounds nice...

So Dumb...........

Omg why Optimus 4x is so Dumb Mobile in forums. It has all Awesome specs Equal to One X and S3 Of course S3 Is Awesome :fingers-crossed:
What I wanna know.
Why is Optimus 4x not listed in Top Mobiles It has good quadrant standards Better than One X and equal to S3, But why this Optimus Big man Suck.
All I know No open Boot loader (**** Lg Sucks in this Support) But I have 2x Which became popular even before it is released:highfive: I suppose><.
And reason I like Lg Awesome Quality and Service For Low Price.
And reason I hate Lg Worse Software support (Reason: Lg Did not comment on when 4X will have Jellybean And if this is case We will never get Lime Pie), I swear I completely bought this mobile hoping Cynogenmod Will highlight this Big Boss, But I am sad when the News came, P880 may or may not have Unlocked boot loader(http://cafe.naver.com/androidhacker/487(Translate IT)), Guys I wanna make this Mobile competitive to S3 Common Devs.
So don't complain and search for good devs experienced in Tegra.. the bounty and cash for the phone are waitin.
When the bootloader goes unlocked, our device will be for sure in top.

Even with locked bootloader and the sh*tty camera, I wouldn't change the O4X for any Shaysung or iFone
Not that I'm LG addicted, its in this case, its a question of design. O4X is one of the few phones in the market with solid, simple and atractive design.
Not forgetting that is a great device with a good performance.

I couldn't agree more. I had been out-of-contract on my last phone (HTC Desire S) for 6 months but there was nothing out there I wanted enough to take a new contract. The 880 changed all that - it has everything on my wish-list - removable battery, SD-Card, and it looks good. I don't want a phone to look like a pebble or a bar of soap. I want it to look like it does. Even if we never get an unlocked bootloader, I can handle this phone for the next 18 months or so on Stock.

I think LG designs well and they have good specd phones. Ibelieve many people like their phones, we are just skeptical because of their non-chalance with updates. I played with this phone last week and I love it but I don't think I will buy it just because of the lack of update issue.
P880 the best phone i have used yet, infact all the LG phones ive used. User experience with Samsung phones are just incomparable to LG, putting aside their designs.
Btw LG started making electronics way before Samsung did.

this is my first LG phone, and so far it is very likable. A few years back I wanted to buy KM900 and I bought iPhone 3G. I went from Nokia N97 to wifes iPhone 3G, for which she said that she does not want to use it. What a blessing that was going from Nokia to iPhone. The only good thing about N97 was its battery time, camera and speaker. I did not regret from going from Nokia to Apple it since it is working until today.Last year when I first wanted to upgrade because of the camera to something with flash and more than 2MP I wanted Optimus 2X, I had it for a review, but did not like its back and slow camera.Somehow I could not get used to Android either. Starting this year I really liked Optimus Black, but they sold all of them, so when I was in Barcelona on February, I saw Optimus 4X. But the iphone 5 was suppose to be launched soon.Nothing happened with Apple, so during waiting I was checking out S3, 4S.After iPhone came out I did not want to get in the line, and also somehow, the price issue and availability
of the iPhone 5 made me think twice. I own my old iPhone 3G, but after years of using it it was time to change. Waiting for iPhone and than paying for it 729€ was not an option, I needed a new phone, so I decided to buy Optimus 4X. Camera could be faster doing the autofocus thing or shutter, but I think that can be solved with an upgrade. If someone knows something, some fix, please send me a pm. Panorama could be made with 8MB not just in VGA mode, could be solved with firmware also. So far I like it for the same reasons most of you guys-girls do.
I choose this over a S3 due to the shape, I like a brick phone, I dont want a "pebble" , had a LG phone before and hated it, but I gave this a go, I love the phone, I do find my S2 screen was a bit more sensitive to touch then this and a few software niggles, but hardware its good and has good scope if we can unlock its full potential!
Anyway,
I will not say Samsung sucks or is best because samsung s3 too have update issues, Orizon s3 do not have unlocked bootloader, And to say frankly i myself hate similar shapes of s3, And i think u guys should watch this video on xda TV.
Samsun hate developers using there devices, They don't know why. But actually samsung became so famous only because developers.
Here is the video link:laugh::highfive:

[Q] So... all things considered... would you recommend your phone?

Hi everyone,
I've got a burning question.
i'm curently the owner of a LG optimus 2x and my experiences with that phone are not that great. Only recently my phone started to work rather well due to a good custom rom based on a stock ics build. (Thanks a bunch Carburano!!)
My contract will expire soon, so I will be in the market for a new phone in about a month and I am seriously considering the optimus 4x HD, although many optimus 2x users would consider me a fool becaulse of those 2 letters on the front bezel...
If I have read well, there are currently no custom Roms available, but is that a miss with this phone?
So basically... would you, as owners, recommend your phone?
Thank you so much for your wisdom!

As there are already some threads on this topic, I recommend you to do a bit research in them. But in brief, I can tell you the following: The stock rom runs really well. Custom Roms might be availible at some time (there's a Sense port in "no phone" state). If you want a phone with removable battery and/or SD card slot, or you're looking for a Tegra phone for gaming, go for the 4X. If you don't need those, have a look at the N4 (if ou can get one), there's most development.
Whoops!

try nexus 4 or wait
Go for nexus 4 or Wait for tegra 4 phones. Those will be in february.
I'd recommend this phone if you don't need custom roms (because they may never be available, even if progress was made). It's an excellent phone, slim, powerful, with some enjoyable LG modifications. The microSD port and removable battery is a big plus.
As Shuny says, great phone, incredible screen quality ( even better than IP4S and SGS3 ) , powerful . If you want a STOCK ROM , its your phone. But , as people said, Nexus 4 or Tegra4 devices are coming.
regards.
( sorry for poor english , im brazilian )
My only gripe about this phone is the camera and heat... I haven't really tested out other quadcore phone so i don't know if they heat up easily or not, I only tested their camera and it was good.. SGS3 and SGN2....
Anyhow, MWC is around the corner so wait around for a bit and widen your choices...

I really don't like the S3... the shape, the software... the S2 was nice, but the S3, not so much... at least for me anyway...
I don't do much gaming, and I really love the form factor of the 4X... the software also seems a lot more responsive than the S3...

I sold my s3 and hox and got the 4x. Well I got more money for the s3 then I paid for the 4x and same applies for the hox as well and I don't regret it. The screen in the 4x is better then the s3 no burn in or checkerboard issues like the s3 screen has. Battery in the 4x is superior to the hox and also removable battery and memory card is a big benefit that the hox don't have. The camera is the weakest on the 4x but there are ways to fix that even without root. And the 4x is faster then the hox. The tegra 3 on the 4x is better optimized. Anyway the 4x is a totally fine quard core monster. And also u can use a normal mhl cable instead buying a special one that works with the s3. So there is more benefit on having the 4x then non benefit.

Im living in Brazil . Isnt a cheap phone here, about R$ 1799,00 ( about USD$900 in a conversion ) , i think MWC brings us some new phones, like Sony Z , Nexus 4 , and many others with 2GB + quadcore in this price range.
But, I choose LG P880 vs IP4S and SGS3 , not for price, but incredible screen and performance, IMHO , better than S3 and IP.
My opinion : BUY IT !
Regards.

Exactly what I think...
I'm going to sell my S3, get me a 4X and even save some money...
The 4X has everything I need... the S3 is a great phone, but it looks extremely fragile... and the home button, boy I really hate that... I was a previous owner of a Galaxy Nexus and the soft buttons are a lot better than physical buttons...
And I really think Jelly Bean and a new kernel can fix most issues the 4X has with games...

I know it , but 3 months ago, when i purchased the phone, i pay R$1799, its cheaper now, i know, but , also you know , we suffer with taxes here. In EUA and Europe , this guy can be purchased by US$ 350 - 400. So , lets return and focus ... This smartphone is a great choice.
Wow, thanks everyone! That was really all I needed to hear. I really want a removable battery and a sd card slot... so my options were limited to the O4x or the sgs3... an I really prefer the looks of the O4X and the screen.... it was just the brand that concerned me... having to wait over a year for ICS on my O2X from the announcement to a crappy release... made me worry!
You guys helped out a lot! I think I will permanently join you in about a month!
And lets hope there will be some custom roms to play with in the future!
Thanks!

[Q] [4HD]Good buy or bad buy

Hi guys
I hope you won't kill me, but I am a samsung boy. I had a Galaxy II and I was real pleased about it, until it got stolen. So it's time to pick a new phone. I have already read that the bootloader will be unlocked with the jelly bean update. Sadly I fear this might be only a rumour. So this leaves me with some questions.
Will the bootloader be unlocked?
Does this phone really contain lots of bugs?
Is this phone worth buying
Should I got to a Galaxy S3 or another phone
Thanks a lot
I loved my S2, fantastic phone!I upgraded to this phone, more on the fact it looks similar and I didnt like the look of the S3, its a good phone, but its a bit old hat now really, things change so quickly!
Neither do I. But I am curious if there might be other inspiring phones out there. Anyway.. the new upgrade of the SII is sadly enough just an embarrassment. Besides I was wondering if there were any other interesting phones arriving shortly. But I don't know about a lot about the bootloader, but I want my phone unlocked and bug free. I was kinda a flash-addict, and I do like this LG phone, The design, pricing and its hardware ofcourse. Still this phone hasn't received much love, so what should I do?
with my new CustoNexus port-rom, this model has suddenly gotten my interest back. So, i think its a good buy for the low cost you can find it for now comparing to a OneX when it was cheapest.
nexus4 or Optimus g is the only better alternative, comparing to SIII.

True But in this case, I don't want to limit my choice based only upon money. I do feel like getting the SIII, still the S4 might be just around the corner. If I buy this phone, I will have to used it for over a year and hopefully even more. Still I really need a smartphone and I want it to be excellent.
Your port is certainly a good solution to the dreadful UI made by LG. (I saw your rom already and it made me smile)
Still the future of this phone is quite unsure, so .. updates, bugs, .. bootloader, so tell me what should I do?
PS: I heard the display was great, can anyone confirm that?
Odp: [Q] [4HD]Good buy or bad buy
^ SGS3, lolnope, don't buy that piece of plastic! Buy 4X, it'll have JB and get unlocked soon (official CM10.1 is sure), or buy G... don't buy the phone with 1080p, it is just the waste of cash. HTC One X would be a good choice too, but if u want to play with custom roms without losing warranty, just choose O4X
@edit yes, it's the best screen after LG OG! And jelly bean update will solve most problems which exist now
@edit2 human's eye can't even see differences between 720 and 1080p (in phones, on tv u can see it ofc)
@edit3(lol) SGS2 is good phone imho, design is better than "three's", but i hate physical home menu in Samsung's phones.

I am quite unhandy and to be honest. .. I always whine about, NO NO MOVIE 1080p but honestly you can barely see the difference and I am sure this would be the case on a smartphone.
Reason if you can convince me, I'll sign your petition

The only unsure thing in future is if LG will upgrade it to JB 4.2 or further. But it runs good even on ICS, and as Dexter said, only "better" system availible atm is the Snapdragon S4 Pro in Optimus G or Nexus 4.
The display is really great. I haven't done direct comparison to a SIII, but the 4X doesn't have burn-in thanks to IPS instead of AMOLED.
The bootloader unlock was confirmed by LG's Developers to a few users here. So it's still not official, but with LG nothing is official - you just get used to that after a while

The feel of the phone overall i think.. it really feels well build, like it feels solid.. i have had a samsung s2 and a s3 and they cant keep up with this phone ln the way it feels..

But one x feels, and definetly is more solid built. And with one of many brilliant custom roms, could be the most reasonable choice at the moment. (One x+ is highly overpriced in my opinion)

i believe something got lost in translation
anyways GNII is 5.5" , just in case "it is small" was misread.
I am also thinking of selling my galaxy note and buy 4x HD ... big size of gnote is annoying and besides, 4x has tegra 3 which I believe is better than snapdragon quad ... The battery life with tegra 3 is awesome.

No one wants to convince you into it. First of all this thread shouldn't exist. Hope at least the mods look in the Optimus 4X section.

Seriously, it's time for me to renew my phone - i9000 galaxy S
After browsing the web, moaning versus N4 unavailability - and no sd-card, no battery access - i'm really considering O4X.
Form factor, instead on GSIII
Price, compared the HTC One X+
Performances
Now the major drawback for me (seems i just discover there is a locked bootloader...)
- CM10.1 support
But God, for 350€, i'm sure this phone rocks.

LG P880 or Galaxy SIII ?

Hello!
I had the LG Optimus 4X HD and I loved it, but unfortunately i has been stoled.
Now I'm in doubt, buy the LG P880 again or adventure with Galaxy SIII?
The price here in Brazil is a small difference between them, and then what should I choose?
Thanks u guys
Let's make a small comparision here. ( this is only my opinion)
Advantages of the 4X HD:
+ better screen
+ I prefer the design of the O4X than the S3
+ Cheaper
Advantages of the S3
+ Battery is better
+ More software updates and custom ROMs
That's what i think. Hope that will help you.

A little addition to it:
4X HD:
+Games lags a lot even of tegra.
+Tegra gives more graphics.
+Loud speaker sound isn't much loud.
+Old 40 nm process, means high heat production.
+Optimus UI 3.0.
+Better battery saving on music play only.
Don't buy s3 if you loved your 4x then go for optimus G it's better

Since the point was to split the comments in advantages/disadvantages of the 4X against advantages/disadvantages of the S3, I've fixed your list for you.
Btw, I didn't know if you meant the UI 3.0 as a pro or a con, so I left it as a plus.

Agreed.
IMO, it all depends on what you can afford and what you liked/disliked in the LG.
Quality-wise, I'd say it's LG 4x < Samsung S3 < LG Optimus G. So, if you can afford the S3 and not the Optimus G go for the S3, if you can afford either, go for the Optimus G.
Although if you have a penchant for the LG form factor as I do, you'll save a bit (and/or wait till the Optimus G's price goes down a bit) and forget about the S3.
That said, it's all about the experience so, if you can go to a store and try the S3 and the Optimus G

Thanks u guys! the Optimus G in Brazil was released today 04/18/13 and is to much expensive
Very very thanks guys!!!!
I'd say S3 if the price is close
I chose the O4X as it was much cheaper than the S3.
If the price is only a slight difference, definitely get the S3.

I extensively tried my own 4X HD, my father's S3 and my sister's Nexus 4.. I found Nexus 4 is the best...
The price in HK are almost the same for these 3 phones now.

Man I am from Brazil too, if you can save a little more (I don't know if you are able) I would get a Xperia ZQ.
But if we compare only both of the fones (OX4 and SIII)
I just had the same question at the end i've chosed OX4, they are saying that SIII has a bad quality gorilla glass in Brazil. I don't know for sure.
Design of OX4 is way better than SIII in my opinion and about the price tag, I've found many prices of SIII the lowest was about R$ 1500.
If you look you can find OX4 for R$ 999 at red store and 1.299 where i bought mine at extra supermarket site.
I hope I helped you. :good:
Sorry for my bad english

A friend of mine was sitting ON THE GROUND and his S3 fell out of his pocket and the screen shattered with spider web cracks. That fall must have been less than a foot. It's crazy. So yeah I'd be wary of the S3's shatter resistance is what I'm saying. Also the same friend has had to send away the phone for software-related repairs twice now. He's not a modder, his phone isn't even rooted, all the issues he's had are stock related.

..not completely sure where that comes from. The 4x battery has higher mAh capacity, the sio+ solution is still organic, but better than the usual lithium ion batteries for retaining the charge, standby, etc. Tegra3 with a normal setup also demonstrably gives you an hour extra over the qualcomm chipsets on gaming. It trounches anything else on medium loads/movie playback for any neon/arm7 codec. Meanwhile the helper core can run music playback, small background tasks, and so on, on a power-draw similar to the second iphone, or the previous arm5 setups with the "graphics card module" disconnected.
Probably the problem is that LG put in a few background tasks, like the logger, and the today app - that actually prevent the phone from dropping to idle, while stealing cycles while running on full burn. This hasn't really been fixed, and you will have massively higher power-draw than you can have with just the standard setup.
Technically, though.. and if you just remove those apps.. it's undeniably the most power-efficient as well as most powerful chipset out there. And you notice it when you play around with the phone. For example if you do some picture editing, drawing with complex brushes, that sort of thing.. The tegra3 chipset here is extremely well designed, without exceeding the power-draw of an arm5 single-core setup.. And this is kind of a feat, so.. you know.. You get a lot for the money here - if it works as intended, obviously.... LG could have set this up a bit more carefully..
How many other phones with an ips display and a replacable battery and a memory card slot is there on the market, anyway..?
