The process took less then 2 minutes from registering to downloading - have it now and about to install.
Looks ok.
I think Thumb Keyboard has a lot more functionality (directional keys, readily accessible punctuations, @ symbol, parentheses, .com key with extras [.net, .org, .etc) when longpressed and all other 'tabbed' symbols just require a longpress, too.
Just MHO.
Here are some screen shots just not a big fan of the full screen text input. Would also like split me keyboard in portrait.

Hated it, went back to stock. Takes way too much realestate in portrait, my main viewing format.

haha me too... why would you need this keyboard if you are using it in portrait? wouldn't stock work well enough? just wondering.... but the whole full screen force thing is bad, thumb keyboard does it too by default, but you can override it.

patience grasshopper. they are really fast about it, shouldn't be more than a few minutes. respect developers' wishes. if they wanted it out here they would have posted it here.
Trying it out now, so far I love the look of the app and it has been working great.

It needs some work still, I was on a closed beta (which I think I can admit), and of course, now use the open beta available on the forum.
But despite the issues with sizing and the alternate keys for symbols and stuff, the predictive text is still like the number one need when typing on a tablet, and it is so much more useful than stock. I don't use split mode atm, because of the key sizes, but I'm hoping I'll like that once they get it worked out.

The common theme seems to be the small buttons are an issue. Hopefully they will make th necessary adjustments.
I'm sure they will, it was among the first comments in the closed beta. I'm using standard layout for now.
Also, nobody can deny... SwiftKey's style on the Xoom is freaking awesome.
Hey
just wanted to start a thread about the lag i've experienced on my nexus 7 and wanted to know who else has experienced it. With me its happened randomly a few times like ill exit an app then when i swipe through the home screen its really jerky. my unit isnt rooted, everything stock even the launcher.
So yeah if anyone has experienced it post BELOWWWWWWWW (ray william johnson voice) lol.
Just wanted to add this link http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37258 for people to visit to help raise awareness to Google about the issue.
Have you gotten the latest update?

Make sure you aren't using a 3rd party rotation app such as 'Ultimate Rotation Control'
also please update to 4.1.1
Not a single issue here... Google accomplished project butter in my opinion...
You may have an issue with the Tablet...

Trust me I wouldn't make this up. And your right but every time it happened I was no where near my phone. Yeah it was updated to 4.1.1. I've read a review in this thread about his not that smooth as well. I'd say download a few apps and try make it multi-task and let me know.

Who knows, you could have a defective unit. Probably not though, so maybe your best bet is keep your phone nearby for when it happens again. The only lag I'm willing to admit at this point is the stock keyboard and swiftkey, if you're a speedy typer. However, if you turn off "spell checker" (ridiculous that they haven't fixed it yet), then you should be fine.
No lag here, try a factory reset, i usually do a factory reset on all my new devices before setting them up.

My nexus 7 was lagging too, it was after i installed this one app. I uninstalled the app and it would still lag but only on the homescreen. I removed the play store media widget and the lag disappeared. I have about 8 widgets (constantly refreshing) and a live wallpaper and still lag free. If you still have that default media widget, try removing it.
Though I still see lag, mostly when im downloading apps or they're installing but once the app is done downloading/installiung the lag goes away. This same issue happens on pretty much every android device i've ever owned, even happens on my iphone so not a big deal.
I have this issue as well. The two times I noticed it I was browsing with chrome and the scrolling started to lag. I exited the app but I would still have lag throughout the device; it would also not recognize my touch all the time, I would have to click something multiple times. Not sure whats causing it.

I'm getting some lag too... Tomorrow I should receive my other unit from Google and ill try them both. It's sad cause my dual core nexus performs better
It lags because of the poor memory (poor i/o). This happened on the Transformer prime, the memory limited the device speed and lags when your either installing an app, uni stalling or transferring.
Also don't forget that especially on the first day tons of stuff gets synced in the background. When I setup my new devices the first day is almost laggy for some hours until all syncs are done.
Tegra devices doesn't have the greatest memory bandwith.

I been getting a lot of lag after playing any heavy game. N64oid Max Payne shadowgun gta3. I always have to reboot or the tablet is unusable. Its not really lag though its more like the touch screen only works 10 percent of the time you touch it until I reboot. Like if i try to drag an app around the desktop it just keeps dropping like I lifted my finger up. And it does it in any app after even if I kill all in memory. And I had mine since Friday its happened almost everytime.

Not seeing it here with Nexus 7 plugged into wall and switching between the built-in apps and also downloaded apps such Glow Ball, Soulcraft THD Beta, Google Voice, etc.
Are you guys seeing this with it running off of battery (possibly power profile/CPU throttling) or plugged in?
Not sure if this is the correct area but I have a few questions:
How well does the tablet preform?
How do you guys find it?
Is it good for gaming?
How's the battery life of the device?
Is it worth the amount of money people are selling it at?
What do you recommend the 8 GB or 16 GB
Might have a few more but that's all for now, hope you guys can help me out!
Thanks.
1. Fantastically, I haven't noticed any lag, no unresponsiveness at all
2. It's a great device and is built sturdily, the only problem I have with it is that the keyboard is just little too wide to type while holding it, it's possible but mistakes are common
3. Excellent, I've been playing Shadowgun, Need For Speed, Angry Birds, Cogs and World of Goo on it and it's been performing really well, no lag at all and the screen size is just right, and it even keeps the games in memory after opening lots of other apps and it responds really well.
4. Great, got about 7 hours out of it while gaming solidly with screen on auto brightness, when on apps other than games it lasts about 8 hours and a half
5. Yes, considering it does everything rather well, I thought reading would be difficult but it's not
6. If you download a lot of the "bigger" games from the Play Store, then go for the 16GB, if not, everything is cloud based so just go for the 8GB, unless you want to store stuff for offline use

Thank you so much for your informative feed back, could I install a 32 GB MicroSD card? If so that would be cheaper, since it's quiet a lot for a 16 GB Version and its only double the capacity!
Sorry for double comments, but does the launcher do landscape? I saw somewhere it don't do that, or maybe there's a setting for that?

There are two hacks to get this fixed. One is build. prop edit. the other i think is a framework xml edit (dont quite me on the second) Its a assumption but im sure its framework related. I do not have my tablet yet :crying:
This will most likely require you to Root your tablet.
Awe why don't they just add a setting like most launchers ;(

I'm sure you know it does landscape except when on the launcher screens, but mine didn't have "auto rotation " enabled out of the box. If anyone isn't getting landscape when browsing the web, etc., check your settings.
BTW, I just use Apex Launcher and now have landscape on the homescreen too.

The mobile network unlock is called SIM unlocking, which allows you to switch to other networks. Bootloader unlocking, the most commonly talked about here on XDA, means modifying your device to allow custom versions of Android.
Probably means the second one then, so that's equivalent to rooted? or not?
Another thing is, the USB port on the device, can that be used for any keyboard? maybe also a usb hub, so i can connect a mouse to it also?

Keyboard/mouse: yes. USB host capability (for expanding the storage of the device via flash drive): only when rooted so far. An update might fix it if enough people complain, but for now, you have to root it and get stickmount (or a similar app).

Does it break root?
I really don't know I wasn't root. Sorry
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
One thing it DOESN'T do is fix the Hangouts video restriction to WiFi.
It broke root for me. Guess i'm gonna have to wait for a new root method now. I seen OTA update and just jumped on it without thinking.
Since this is the first thread on the subject, lets make it an organized one with useful info please so people don't make 1000 threads about it making it difficult for those of us who haven't updated yet to stay on top of it.
What we've learned so far:
It (probably) breaks root
not much else as far as improvements/changes
Just got mine also. Wonder if it fixes the double reboot issue where the phone boots and reboots right away when trying to sync clock.
I'm assuming this is the audio fixes that the other variants got. Could be wrong though.
First thing I noticed was the color of the stock keyboard. It is now a blueish blackish color.

I noticed the keyboard change as well. One thing I noticed (although this might be my mind playing tricks on me) is the phone seems to lock/unlock quicker. I noticed a bit of lag sometimes when hitting the power button to lock, and it seems to have lessened somewhat. Again, purely speculation, although I know a lot of people had complained about it on various mediums.
I think we post the same thing. I notice some changes. Like the keyboard and slightly better performance. Please see my thread and let me know if you find something more

I think its the same update Sprint got as well. There is another thread in Q&A that points to a URL with changes for Sprint. New keyboard is because they added new handwriting mode. Other fixes mentioned are call audio improvements. Nothing else.
I use Google keyboard and my call audio has been fine. I'm keeping M9 rooted unless I hear something meatier.
I responded on the first thread about the update and I called AT&T to get any release notes. They told me all it says is general performance enhancements.
I noticed when I first got my Tab S that typing could bog down and start to lag after a while. Here are two things I've done to make typing much faster and more enjoyable:
1) ROOT REQUIRED: Using Wanam Xposed (free in market) disable DVFS in advanced settings. This is something Samsung implements to save battery life by throttling your CPU. Disable it and reboot.
2) Install THUMB KEYBOARD. Fast, light, excellent keyboard layouts for tablets, free themes and the best autocorrect I've ever used.
Try those and see if your typing experience doesn't improve.
UPDATE: There's a new app in the playstore called "DVFS Disabler" which may work better than the one built into Wanam Xposed. No idea but it is another option.
No problems here with typing lag using Stock keyboard and SwiftKey.

Excellent. Funny that nothing about my Tab S lagged except the typing part and then only after about 20 minutes of use. Regardless if you haven't tried THUMB KEYBOARD give it a shot lag or no. It really is great. The superior autocorrect alone should make typing faster.
Swiftkey is smooth for you? That app is a wreck for me on any device I've ever tried it. Not only laggy but does some very weird random word substitutions. Not a fan. YMMV.
Yes have always ended up using SwiftKey on my Android devices after trying stock and many others including thumb keyboard. SwiftKey has always been pretty spoton for word predictions too. As I said, not experienced any lagging after typing for long periods on my tab s.

Are you sure DVFS is enabled on your tablet? If you have Wanam you can check it under advanced settings. Other than that no idea why that was the one thing I was getting lag with while I had no screen lag or stuttering. According to articles I have read DVFS can throttle CPU speeds by as much as half.
I'm not rooted and have no need to root as of yet.

Yep a lot of people love Swiftkey. Must be the way I type but it is always going haywire for me. I will type a word and then hit space. Instead of going forward it goes back to the middle of the word I just typed and starts typing the new word. A complete mess. When I want to delete one of these crazy double words it doesn't want to let me. Not just on the Tab S but any device I've tried it on.
Oh well.

I just tried it on my 8.4 using SwiftKey as I was curious and didn't suffer any lag when typing. I tried both landscape and portrait modes. I'm not saying it doesn't lag for you, I just can't see it on my tab.
Maybe we have our keyboards set up differently. I have keyboard sounds and vibrations switched off on mine if that makes any difference?

I had sounds off and it still lagged. I've recently turned them on. but yeah in hangouts it lags bad. hangouts on the tablet sucks too because if I type stuff, randomly after hitting send the keyboard will drop down while other times it won't, and the conversation doesn't advance to show what I just typed... it's stuck on the last thing said unless I back out of the keyboard, then I can see it. hangouts just sucks lol

I have been using swype on my S3 and the Evo 4G before that. I have been a qwerty type'er since 1978 and never went the thumbs route or hunt and peck. I'll try two hand typing on the on screen keyboard as well as the others mentioned here. Will probably get the Samsung keyboard unless there is a better option for real typing. I'm pretty good a swype on the phone and non-tech folks are amazed.
I've been using SwiftKey with there version of Swype and like it a lot
The samsung kb isn't too bad, but I like the memory and cloud features of SwiftKey.
If I make fghjk a word on one device it is a word on all my devices and it migrates to my other new devices.
Hey guys. Appreciate the Swiftkey input but that's really not the subject of this thread.
