[Q] Koodo phone recognised as TELUS? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using Cm9.1 RC2 by Maclaw at the moment on my Galaxy Ace, however, my phone shows the Koodo network labelled as TELUS.
Doesn't affect my ability to use the phone and messaging services, but it is still really annoying and could get me in trouble from my parents.
Anyone know how to fix this?
PS. shows up as a TELUS Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 on the Play Store under devices. I bought it from Koodo and shows up as a KDO Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 on Selfserve.
Swapped over to RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE. Still any chances of a fix? Interface doesn't seem to have changed much.

Is it on the lock screen that it's displaying Telus ( who owns Koodo btw ) ? I don't use that particular rom, but on my current rom which is CM7 based, I have an option in CyanogenMod settings, interface, status bar tweaks that allows custom txt. You could simply change that to Koodo and thats how it will show. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but I hope that helps a bit.

Yes its on the lock screen and in the notification drawer. But there are no 'Cyanogenmod Settings. Just a category labelled 'Interface' with Launcher, Lock Screen, Themes, and System options. I'm now using CM9.1 RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE, and I have the same issue. Could you provide a specific tutorial for how to do that? I can't seem to find that text editor.
Thanks

Try under system, thats where the interface option is on my current rom. for me it's system, interface, status bar tweaks, carrier label type ((choose custom text), then under custom carrier label you can type in koodo.

Umm, telus and koodo are the same network, so it doesn't really matter...I don't think there is an option in Cm9.1 RC2 to change the carrier text. If you will get in trouble for this by your parents, them are some odd and observant parents you got there...better go back to stock using odin before you get grounded.

You are correct. Mention it at the store and see the reaction, kinda funny.

LOL. Right. Like I'm going to show Koodo my rooted phone. They'll love me for that. Bye-bye warranty.
But it is true, occasionally when I running stock my Ace would actually try and fail to use TELUS's network. Would require a battery pull to fix.
I'll just have to be careful then.

Yikes that does suck. I'm in Waterloo, ON so no issues for me I just get hated on for not owning a Blackberry device (I still love RIM though)

My fiancée loves Blackberry, only ones she will buy. She goes on about my android, but I get the last laugh with better battery life and no freezing. to each his or her own I guess

True, it's just funny because every rants on about how "I'm not supporting local development because RIM's HQ is in town, blah... blah... blah..."
Then I point out how Google now has a recognised office in Waterloo as well.
Generally it shuts them up
If not, I just show them my Ace. Actually got my uncle to buy an SIII. He doesn't really get the whole idea though. He's just amazed that he can get Netflix -_-

Sorry to drag up the dead here, but...Were you able to find any more ROMS that were completely compatible with your Koodo phone? I installed the Democracy NT ROM (compatible with Telus) and after the install I had lost my efs settings. I was able to find the correct settings to apply online...but I've had a fairly difficult time finding ROMS that are 100% compatible with this particular carrier.
Of course...could just be that I'm not really quite sure what I'm doing...

Encryption will always be reset when you install a new ROM, as far as I know, EFS settings have nothing to do with your carrier and more to do with the actual device and file system. I don't think encrypting your phone will affect the performance of your network operation.
I no longer use the Galaxy Ace, but when I did I never had any issue with operating on Koodo's network (so long as the ROM I was using had a functional radio).
Basically any ROM with a functional radio built for your device should work with both Telus and Koodo's networks. If you have a Koodo SIM, you should be able to operate on Koodo's Network if your phone is either locked to Koodo or unlocked for function with any GSM network.
NOTE: Your ROM may display "Telus" instead of "Koodo" on the lockscreen and the notification drawer. The phone still runs on Koodo, it just displays Telus because the networks use the same frequencies. This little issue can be corrected by checking to see if your ROM offers the ability to edit the carrier name, or by installing the Xposed Framework and a module (such as XBlast Tools) that adds this functionality.
Your device will likely show as a TELUS Samsung Galaxy Ace on the Play Store regardless, but that is simply because Telus owns Koodo and they use the same device models.
Hope I helped, let me know if you have further questions.

[Q] [Solved] GSM Tmo Tab with JK3 modem, no service!

Hi everyone, I flashed different ROMs for a couple of weeks, and finally decide to settle down with OC 2.3.3, the July 15th latest one. However, the same problem occurred, which is with a Tmo Modem in the tab, I have great signal, EDGE data, and no phone function. With JK3, I got nothing, which is the main reason I switched back to Froyo at first.
I am a ATT user, holding a Tmo GT. I didn't find any fimilar threads, and in fact, I think this is a question needs precise answers.
Thanks in advance!
Updated on #4
UPDATE: I find the signal sometimes appeared and give me GPRS... So weird... I even reflash the rom again, not help. So any other paople could help me?

You can use the t-mobile modem, and you will only get EDGE. You can use a vibrant modem and you can get voice and EDGE.
BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET 3G.
There are probably a five hundred posts on this.
And it will never matter which rom you use. It is only due to hardware limitations, as I explained to you elsewhere.
Thanks for the help, but you misunderstood. I know the edge and voice stuff, just the modem didnt work on my tab.
Since I absolutely want gingerbread this time, I finally figure this out, I went to wireless settings and select GSM only, instead of autoselect. NOW I can FINALLY make calls and get edge instead of gprs. I will keep tracked to see if this method could solve the problem eventually.
People see alot of similar threads and they forgot to care about simple problems because they thought it was old, which in fact isnt. Still thank this forum for bringing me all the great things!

It is usually the simple things that cause us problems! And you wouldn't have gotten any reply if I didn't care about your problem.
Why can't you switch to a t-mobile sim card so you can enjoy the 3g?
Do u mean if I switch to tmobile I could get 3g and voice? I am managing a family plan right now and my wife is waiting for iphone 5, but if that is the situation, I might consider switching... ao attractive...

From my understanding TMO only provide 3G data plan for tab. No voice plan. Am i right rangercaptain? You did explain to me last time in other treat that only certain region receive the voice plan. Ex spain, israel etc. Or maybe my understanding is wrong? Haha,,just want some confirmation also on this matter. Im interested to know

You are 100% right.
T-mobile tabs in the USA get voice or 3g using the switch.
In a few other countries t-mobile tabs get voice and 3g, no switch needed.

Yes, sort of.
You would have to install the Rotohammer modem switch.
Mode #1 = voice, sms, and EDGE speed data.
Mode#2 = 3g data only.
Thank you for that info rangercaptain. You just add more knowledge to me.

realy? Thank a lot.
what?! I was under the impression that would only work in ICS?
Am I wrong? What do I need to do to use the GSM modem for calling on my 3g tab?

No you can't or if you can give us a clue on how to do it !!!
I have upgraded to Overcome 2.1.0 with 3.2 firmware and actually I have the "Phone" app which seems to work. I didnt tried to call because of my contract with the TIM brand, I can only navigate. Promise I will try this afternoon!

Use the SIM card from your phone when you do try later! If this works, then this is fantastic news!
I saw it pop up too but when you try to call out it errors out with a 'voice calling not supported' message.
I wonder how to get past that. Do we need a different radio rom or something.. ?
It would be awesome to get this working.

Other than pre-release press shots, no one has shown a Tab 8.9 or 10.1 with working GSM calling capability. Chances are if it's ever going to be made to happen it will be by a developer who is probably a member of XDA and s/he will post either screen shots or video. Until then, it's safe to assume that no Tab other than the 7, 7+, and 7.7 will ever be able to make GSM calls. There's hope that ICS may change that but for now it is what it is. And unless someone does post proof that it's been made to happen take anything said with a grain of salt.
Amen, lets make this a sticky.

If ANYONE claims they have working GSM calling capabilities on their 8.9/10.1, be prepared to present hard proof, or keep your silence!

Hey ppl... well.. i just got my p7300 today and was more then embarassed tp find ou that it has no call functionality whatsoever after i torn the packaging apart at the shop. I just got a bit suspicious after i came home and my girlfriend told me that she could not reach me.
Long story short, i thought that i pass by @ xda to check the devs. Now ive seen that even around here nobody managed to get theor heads around it. Now that i have to use my old x10i i thought that it maybe is possible to somehow use the x10 as modem while using the p7300 as dialler.. maybe via bluetooth or sumthin like that>?!
Dont know if that would be usefull enough for others that a dev puts his head into it or if ot would not be way to complicated but thats on you to decide as i am no [email protected]
Cheers
Where can I get this firmware? Can you gimme link?

[Q] CM9 no phone

My tab upgraded itself to honecomb, that was fine. Recently I decided I would flash to MIUI 4 and that was ok, except if I switched it off and plugged in a charger half a picture would appear and whilst it would charge and boot fine, if I unplugged it without switching it on, it would go very very flat indeed overnight.
So I tried to flash it to CM10.1 but booting just took me back to the recovery screen, so then I tried MIUI 5 but that gave a zip error- so then I flashed CM9 (can you tell that I dont really know what Im doing) by dropping the zip on the external sd and using the recovery screen to load it - and it works - in fact the cyanogen9 boot screen is so much more fun than a flickering 'samsung' - but - now the phone side isnt working. Oddly the phone can tell what networks are available but it can't connect to orange with the sim in.
(Also my tune in pro app can only load a handful of streams when all of them work on my note...)
So now what - can I flash a new modem to fix what I might have done to this one - or would the oft chanted mantra 'Restock to 2.3.3. Then flash overcome before flashing cm9' sort me out..... or....
The fact that your tab got upgraded to honeycomb means you probably don't have a P1000 tab.
This forum is for P1000 or all variants of the original Samsung Galaxy 7" tab
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Most def a GSM p1000 in fact. Maybbeeeee I meant gingerbread. Now I think about it upgrading to cm9 was probably hopeful too.
Hmm interesting. I am down as new on the forum despite joining 7 years ago....
If your IMEI isn't 35xxx, you have a bad or corrupted efs. Bad IMEI won't be able to join a network.
There is likely a backup folder in your internal or external SD card, and you need to pick the oldest one and replace your /efs with it, using root explorer.
If you don't have a backup, then you need the restocking dance....
I joined this forum since it was really talking about xda... Wonder how many current user remember what an xda is.

I had an XDA MINI S - but the XDAs were just before that when I was an IPAQ (but still missing my Psion s3a)
I remember when people laughed at you when you had an electronic pda.... but I digress.
I have taken the P1000 into overcome v4. No idea what I was doing so the explanations must have been utterly brilliant.
Modem is working again.
Shall I leave it alone now - or if I drop CM9 back on it will the phone part still work? Thing is...my internet radio app probably wont work as well as Im used to so perhaps I will stay as I am for a bit....
maybe...
Side story- call it a sig.... My XDA MINI S was actually the O2 XDA MINI S - and one day I lost it. In Chester. I got back to work not realising I had lost it., then people kept coming up to me 'did you get your phone back' ... blimy where my phone...I said....
Turns out, a Polish woman found it in the street in Chester. Because it had O2 on the front she took it to an O2 shop. The man in the shop got it going and called ALL my contacts asking them who I was... finally found my secretary who gave me their number so I went and picked it up. Everone I knew knew what I had done..before me! Now THATS technology for you.
#truestory
Do that with an eye-fone!
Haha. Yes I too owned a HP IPAQ before.
Quite a funny story you got there with the mini. Thanks for sharing.
About upgrade, now you had a working one, copy the /efs folder to a safe location.
And I recommend you try out AOKP JB by stimpz0r.
I think it is rock solid!

[Q] 4g/LTE/3G not working on Custom Roms

Hello XDA,
So I've purchased my 1st quad-core phone Saturday. I'm extremely happy about the phone's cosmetics and performance. Of course, being the flash-aholic that I am, I decided to beef it up!! After finially getting an AOSP rom that I felt comfortable with, I flashed and everything was great.... Until I noticed that my data stopped working. The funny thing is if I turn on airplane mode, make a call, or restart the phone the data comes on for about 2 minutes and then turns back off. After messing around with settings and such, I restored my stock rom. On the stock rom data works like it should. So I decided to try 2 other roms. One being GE and the other AOSP. Both are doing the same thing with data connectivity.
Is this a known issue? Did I do something wrong? I looked through the Q&A's and I didn't find anything. Keep in mind that I am very experienced up to full development of rooting/flashing/customizing/etc
Thanks in Advanced!!!!!
Update: T-mobile is my service provider
*bump*
It's imperative that I find out if this is fixable or not as I will return the unit if it's not...
Apologies

Did you try updating the radio firmware to match the ROM that you were using? Did you try another Sense ROM to see if the issue wasn't an underlying setting from a GE or AOSP ROM? Did you flash a custom Kernel? Did you match the RILs? Lots of things that you could try to isolate the issue.

I use PA from the regular HTC One forum even though I'm on T-Mobile... It shouldn't matter, I still get the same speeds. Some different ROMs will use different names, like the aosp stuff uses 3g, H, H+ and LTE. In order to enable lte you have to go into the settings for mobile data, APN and then make sure it's the one that's like fast.tmo whatever. That's the LTE APN
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
what's the exact APN name that should be there? I was reading about it but no one said what T-mobile's APN should be. they just noted that it should be changed the correct carrier.
