[Nexus 4 Kernels Discussion Thread] - Nexus 4 General

As you may already know, this community is getting crowded and a lot of people are going to ask what is the best kernel for the nexus 4...this thread is going to be used to discuss the kernel you are using and your experiences from it.

Currently using Franco and it's running fine so far. I haven't used it long enough to compare much, but Franco on the Galaxy Nexus was great!
Also, what show is your signature gif from?

[Q] Nexus S binaries with Vibrant?

I'm starting to learn how to compile Android ICS from source, and thanks to Shen's tutorial, I'm starting to "get it".
So I do have a few questions before I get started.
1) Does the Nexus S and the Samsung Vibrant use the exact same hardware?
2) Can I use the Nexus S binaries listed here (http://code.google.com/android/nexus/drivers.html) for the Vibrant if question #1 is a "yes"?
I was going to buy a Nexus S or GNexus just for the purpose of learning, but if my Vibrant is basically an Nexus S, I say why not use it? It's not my daily phone.
FYI, it already has ICS Passion v9.2 on it, and has an FFC (I added it). I would just like to get started in compiling my own ROM for the sake of learning, starting a new hobby, and hopefully able to contribute to the Android community in which I have already benefitted as a ROM-flashing enthusiast.
Theres a Q and A forum, just fyi.

I'll re-post it for you in the Q&A forum, Naddie; I am curious about the same thing.

Thanks.
Actually, if a MOD can move this thread, that'll be better.

LinuxMint, Ubuntu and why/would you recommend?

So as the title says, which are you using? And why?
And would you recommend it? Answer in the thread AND the poll.
Let me start, I'm using LinuMint 12 and i use it because it is the OS that I create My custom ROM's on, and becuase its fast. I recommend it to ROM makers. 10/10 stars
Your turn
The Minty freshness without a doubt. Why?
I've been a member on the forums there for a few years now, learning and helping and they are a great bunch of guys - generally a better place than the Ubuntu forums.
Although I have stuck with Mint 10 - as I found no benefit to the later versions (either Mint or the Ubuntu it is based on) and more than a few problems, I would thoroughly recommend Mint to anyone trying to get to grips with Linux.

You had a question about linux. If you post in there, it gets bumped up and everyone who has posted in it will read the new post. Therefore getting more exposure to people in the know. Also, you keep the board cleaner by not cluttering it up with more threads on the same subject, and then threads get lost in the clutter. Just one of the rules in online forums. Search, look around, post in threads of the same subject. It's even in the XDA noob video.

You're not causing any trouble. Just letting you know. A lot of new guys think that I will surely get noticed if I start a new thread. But really it's quite the opposite. You get more attention and answers when posting in existing thread. Plus on top of that, it keeps the place clean.

If I had to choose from those two, I would say Ubuntu. I'm running it on one of my laptops that everyone plays with. But when it really comes down to it, I'm more of a RedHat and Backtrack kinda guy. They are way better for getting your hands dirty.

I thought the same too but I followed his link. It's setup really nice and it's not just any regular what are you running thread. Pretty cool to see the info being displayed like that. There's way too many roms though so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I would remove liquid and illusion lol. They have nothing todo with original development

I don't know... its a result of a long travel by train
Maybe for users who want to try something new but don't know what to choose.
Or ROM/Kernel devs want to know what users think.
Does it bother you that much?

He he yeah not your fault at all. They need to be moved by the moderator team into android development along with xenonHD. They simply are not doing anything other then the 1000 of android development ROMs....kanging. No original work at all. Nothing bad but hammerhead moderators decided at the beginning to clearly differentiate it...which is IMO a good idea...but this 3 silently added their ROMs threads into original and I think that's not fair for the other android development ROMs (like carbon aicp madhi etc etc) that user think this three mentioned above do original work.

It does, yes. It is against XDA rules to make Best ROM or Best Kernel threads for the reason that "some" devs don't like to be compared to others. It is against the Spirit of XDA. Even though your results are not technically what is best, it is still comparing the work so should still be against the rules.
I will leave it in the hands of mods. If they decide to allow this thread, fine. If not, also fine.

Yeah quiet difficult to decide here agree and something in a gray zone I think lol. On the one hand it is a comparison on the other hand very anonymous and it shows specific stats as well for the different ROMs and kernels (like which version most are running etc). And stats about quality speed etc are not ROM specific and only shown as overall impressions about all ROMs and kernel....difficult lol.
Whatever yeah mods need to decide.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Definitely a grey area.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately comparison threads are not allowed on XDA, be it a poll or just a thread. While it is anonymous that is not the point, as mentioned some ROM/Kernel devs do not like seeing their work being compared to the work of others. As this is as outside poll (and a nice one at that) I must remove the link from the OP as members could still vote and view it otherwise.

best N7000 rom

Hi,
I'm currently looking for a nice stable KitKat rom. In testing asylum right now. I really like the dark interface. Looks pretty nice on amoled. I have some wlan and camera probs though.
The original omni and slimkat seem to be good choices, too.
I want a fully working nice rom asap and not test for days or weeks. Unfortunately I have other stuff to do
Can someone give me some pros and cons of those or other roms, pls? Which one delivers the most stable build atm.
Thanks a lot

If you read the rules and have browsed a few of the headlines you should already know that BEST is not allowed and in violation of the rules. Try them yourself!
Sorry, didn't know that this is not allowed. Just wanted to know which rom runs without any issues

Unless stated otherwise, each Rom will have their full description in the OP including known bugs. Of course individual hardware condition also play a part in generating issues. The best solution is to always do a full, clean flash whenever flashing a new rom.
And to answer your enquiry, all developers who cooked the roms have made the roms in accordance to survey, latest updates, and mostly from personal preference so again what might be an issue to you might not be to many others. As a weekly flasher, the best way to know how good a rom is of course to try it ourselves, it's all the fun of flashing cusrom about.

I think everyone already stated the reasons why this thread is being closed
The BEST ROM is the one that works BEST for YOU. Read the ROM threads...it is full of members who think THAT ROM is the best.
You need to find out what works best for you, your phone/apps/usage/signal/setup.

In addition to what Kenny said, please do not use the mention system to "summon" moderators, I have been at work throughout the day so wasn't online, meaning mentioning me is useless (at weekends at any rate). Please use the report system for matters concerning forum/thread moderation.
Thanks.

Anyone know where or when one might get cm

As a flashaholic XD ,I would like to say on behalf of the Note 5 community that we the users would like to see a stable build of cyanogenmod for all variants
Maybe a few devs could work together instead of competing for the best debloated or tweaked stock rom
I know for certain that the devs will gain a lot of respect and it would be better than any Note 7 port

Have a read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/wip-cyanogenmod-kernel-note-5-t3427086
That should give you some background to what has been developed to date.
Hopefully the issues can be resolved and further development continue one day.

Well unfortunately mate the rom will never return to xda again some trolls got on our nerves rilq and suzook or something couldn't be bother to check
But the good news we didn't stop development and we were not going to stop even after what happened we have been building the rom for our personal use and decided to share it here
Technically when we decided to leave we didn't lose anything. It is a little unfortunate that the people of xda are the ones who winded up in the mix because of those trolls but none of us wanted to deal with the them
Just an fyi
