Pinch to Zoom NO LAG in Firefox ( Video inside) - Nexus 4 General

So on the Nexus 4, in the browser and in the gallery, Pinch to zoom seems to suffer from some delay , i dont know why, but it doesn't start the gesture until your fingers are a few cm apart, which is kinda of annoying... Well Firefox seems to do it straight away and its smooth!!
Check out the video : http://youtu.be/EU-N3mEOwU0

I don't understand these sensitivity complaints. This is a software configuration that calibrates and filters out touches. The hardware is no less sensitive than any other device.
If you'd like you could go into the source and adjust it to your preference

Nice find. Officially using Firefox for now.

[Q] ICS and Note's Camera shutter speed?

I was curious will galaxy note get zero lag shutter with ICS release? Anyone with ICS leak notice any difference on shutter lag?
I saw a one YouTube video where the guy takes pictures on ICS but it wasn't much of help since he wasn't really spam shooting photos... I really hope note could take photo like nexus or iphone :/

Well I'm on ICS Stunner and for me it's not a "real" lag. It's the same way as you can see it in the video. But I can take a picture and immediately move the note and the picture is very sharp and clear.
But if it'll be in the final offical ICS version, there is no answer so far.
I'd fall over in astonishment if there was zero lag between shots, my Panasonic LX5 doesn't manage that!
But the lag between shots is pretty bad on the Note, much worse than my previous phone. It'd be great if ICS fixed it.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
to improve inter-shot times, try a lower resolution, its probably just the device storing the photo..
as for shutter lag, i agree with you..a $2000 DSLR does not have zero shutter lag.. but for phone cameras, that started with 2secs of lag, i think "zero" lag is probably <0.25sec

Doh x( I thought I heard galaxy nexus had zero shutter lag hehe my mistake.
So even with ICS leak it's pretty darn slow I guess :/ that's the only thing I miss about iphone since I love taking photos.

the only samsung phone that has zero shutter lag is the SGS3

My note cant have zero lag even on JB. My guess is it is the hardware that the newer models have.
If u want 0 lag there are camera apps available try fast burst camera.

Shutter lag is dependant on hardware, it's only the newer phones that have immediate shutter lag potential, even the apps that supposedly enable it cant, it purely hardware dependant.

Choppy/imprecise movement in games

Hey everyone,
I have been playing games like Shadowgun (non tegra optimized version), Mass Effect and Dead Trigger, and the games look and run great except for one issue... the frame rate appears very choppy when doing slow/precise movements with the right thumb. For example, when I load up Shadowgun or Mass Effect and just slowly move my right thumb to move the camera, the movement is not smooth at all. The camera moves in a large choppy imprecise way. Is this normal? Am I just expecting too much out of this device? If its not normal how do I fix it?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I posted about this in another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29095910&postcount=44
I fixed most of the issues when I installed a CM10 kang.
The only issue I have noticed since is what you're describing. The screen chops a bit with very slow precise movements. I wonder if that's just how it is on this LCD panel.
Interesting... I don't think my issue is dead spots necessarily. I looked at your video in the other thread and I don't have that problem. Mine is more just related to choppy camera movement in games. I'll try to take a video eventually. I found that turning down look/aim sensitivity in the game options usually helps make it smoother as the cost of slower controls, bit at least I can tweak it a bit that way.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
In Dead Trigger the aiming isn't very smooth, but it is in MC3. Seems like a game problem too me.

Remove Android Lag [entropy]

Someone just messaged me this "fix" for android lag
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35971545&postcount=20669
I personally haven't noticed any lag but thought it might be worth sharing here.
sorry if its already been shared
I don't really notice a difference.
The typical Android hiccups are still there.

What's lag?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't experience any lag at all from this device (and didn't on my S2 running Cyanogenmod for that matter either).
No lag to report on the Nexus 4... But interesting read nonetheless. Might use it on the Galaxy S2 (Which DOES lag, even though some say it doesn't. Compare both N4 and S2 side by side... It's painful to watch)
Is this like jet lag?
Who Lag?
More like turbo lag
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
No lag here on this badboy!
The lag is from the way Android was designed originally. Not all apps are even optimized for the platform and others are quick ports from other platforms. Also they are still lacking with hardware to software optimizations.

The're some apps which are lagging. But the Nexus4 itself? Bullsh**!!!
Smoothest Android phone ever (just compare to the Note 2, this phone lags!)

Agreed. It may be the applications that lag but not the system itself. I have yet to see a hiccup when browsing through my Nexus.

There are some pretty awful frame drops when using the device in landscape, especially in the app drawer. I wonder if this fixes that.

Compared to my iPhone 4 the N4's browser is like internet explorer vs chrome.
Sounds like snake oil. Androids remaining lag is too deeply rooted to be squashed with some shell code parlor trick. Android gives content fetching more priority than rendering the UI, it's something that Google has to take care of by rewriting the framework. Ios does this beautifully btw, it doesn't need 4 cores for fluid scrolling and even with 4 cores nexus can't touch it ... yet.

Camera App stops taking photos

If this has been posted already, my apologies! i've been reading in the forums for months now and haven't seen it posted yet unless it came and went down the list faster then i could see it.
so the main issue seems to be, after taking a few pictures over time the camera app just freezes with the LED on like a flashlight and won't take another picture. until i found this google code submission
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=40996
i've always had to reboot my phone just to take pics again. it's been embarassing when in public with friends i've bragged to about this phone... its a good laugh thats for sure, but not what i expect out of this phone. has any of you experienced this? do you guys on custom roms have this issue? is this a google code issue only or are all roms experiencing this issue? i haven't rooted yet as i always wanted to take updates automatically and stay up to date, but with this camera issue i'm in the process of rooting right this minute but want to make sure its worth my hassle.
discuss.
I've had this issue as well. It only seems to affect the stock app though as other camera apps continue to function. A reboot is the only way is been able to fix this bug.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It happened to me for the first time on New Year's Eve but happened three times. The app reset when I either closed it from the recent apps list or switched to video camera and then back to regular camera. Not sure what caused it and hasn't happened since.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
So what you're trying to say is whenever you try to repetitively take photo, camera freezes with led light on? Never happened to me. Then again, I barely use my camera
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I've had this happen as well, although I don't think I needed to reboot, just closed the app and it stopped. But I've had this happen several times, not recently though. I'm very disappointed with the camera on this thing, it seems to take lack luster photos and the app is very fritzy and the rotation animation awful, as well as this occasional glitch.
It's a bug and has been reported. You can star it here:

that's exactly what I'm saying. I take a lot of pics especially when we go out. it does it all the time... it just freezes with the led stuck in. I can hit home but when I reopen it and take a pic it gets stuck in again. I just read I can switch to video and back and it should work, but that's annoying. my girlfriends gnex just works and she always laughs at me when it happens.
question, does this happen on anyone's rooted nexus with custom rom?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Happens to me all the time. The camera app on here is pretty disappointing. I don't get it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I just got it to produce that problem and I see what you mean by annoying. One easy solution that I heard people using is using a third party camera app. Try a free camera app and tell us how it goes. Tried to reproduce the problem with camera zoom fx and couldn't do it. Also I believe this is a problem with terrible auto focus of nexus 4. Because when this happens the focus ring looks like as if it's still trying to focus into a object. Hopefully this gets fixed with software update. Cheers
BTW, using a rooted stock nexus 4 with Franco kernel and camera mod that'll increase the quality of the image and video.

Me too and I've now "Starred" the bug.
Hopefully everyone here has too so it gets noticed by Google.
Same issue. Experienced it for the first time on New Year's Eve. Both my Nexus 4 and my wife's had the same thing happen. Only happened to mine once. Happened to hers about 3 or 4 times.
Used the camera the most on New Year's compared to any other time so that's possibly why I never experienced it until then.
Happened twice when asking strangers to take pics of us too, which was extremely annoying and embarrassing.
The LED flash stays on and you can't take any pics. Closing the app and swiping it from recents and reopening does nothing. The same thing will happen on the next try. Need to reboot the phone. It's the only fix.
My phone did this on new years eve too.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Happened the same to me more then once. I don't use the camera that much but when I really need it doesn't work.
This is embarrassing when everyone around you is taking pics with their iPhone.
Had numerous android phones before and never had one 100% reliable.

Had this issue also!
BTW while messing around just now, I got it to freeze , but noticed it was out if focus , so I moved it around and it eventually took!

Try the Camera Zoom FX app. When I say amazing control, I mean AMAZING control of the camera. ISO, tap to focus and shoot, programmable hardware buttons for shutter/gallery etc...
The ability to control ISO means you can get rid of noise for stills/landscapes in almost any light. It works great. Furthermore, the pictures appear to be better from this app. When I started the app, I played around with it and thought "hey this is great, I have control over each shot, but the quality of the picture in auto mode appears the same as stock." Then I found in somewhat hidden "All Settings" menu a SAVE menu which was defaulted to 85% for jpeg output. I put it on 100% output and the pics look very good if not better than stock. The hardware is decent in this thing so the pics should be good. Take a look at the app and try it out for a few minutes to test it.
Disclosure: I have NO financial or personal interest in the company or developer of this app. But I do have a personal interest in photography.

Zooming limitation in photos

Has anybody else noticed that you can zoom only up to a certain extent i pics, I guess only to 100% of thr pic size. Sometimes the photos are very hard to view so I need more zoom. I searched a lot and the only thing I found out is changing accessibility settings and tripple tapping to zoom. This isn't a real solution to the problem, as it's very ugly and not practical. Does anyone know any mod to enable more zooming?

Thats a good question! i was never impressed with the camera on the HTC One and let alone the zoom. I had to pull the photos off and use Adobe Photoshop to zoom to the level i needed for detail. Doubt this is what you want to do but, if worse comes to worse.
FYI - HTC work on a better camera on these phones
The way HTC handles zooming in the gallery is by it's resolution. In order to zoom in to a photo more is by using a 3rd party gallery

Doesn't anyone understand there is no zoom? The so called zoom is the same as cropping, which is limited by the resolution. Lower megapixels = lower level of cropping before pixelation

I'm pretty sure he's referring to zooming to photos he has saved on his phone or photos he is viewing on Facebook. I realize these phones don't have zoom and only digital zoom which is essentially the same as cropping. What he is trying to do is trying to bypass the limitations that HTC implementated to the zooming level on the photos he is viewing

Did you ever read my question? I was pretty clear I am talking abour SAVED photos, not camera app. I have had many phones, but this is the first that limits the zooming so much, it's absurd. My old Sensation can zoom up to 300%. I think HTC had done this because of the ****ty resolution of the camera

This limitation was set even before this phone with its ultrapixel camera. I believe it was implemented starting on the HTC one X series including the evo lte but I could be wrong. You can try aosp the zoom limitation isn't there
