Want to know why Google made Nexus 4 without LTE? - Nexus 4 General

Look at this forum and the number of country specific threads!! I've never seen such a global audience and interest for any other phone!

The phone has LTE...By default the S4 Pro chip features the pieces for LTE to function, and it has already been discovered that the N4 will support (USS)T-Mobile's LTE(AWS) network.

LTE is ****. The radios drain the battery like nothing else for VERY LITTLE benefit over HSPA+ 42mbps

This thread has no purpose.

Article (theverge): Why the Nexus 4 does not have LTE or CDMA

http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/29/3569688/why-nexus-4-does-not-have-4g-lte
Pretty good article explaining why lte on a Nexus 4 doesn't make any sense for any potential whiners out there
Google wants direct control of the software on Nexus devices with no carrier intervention. That alone means Google can't sell an LTE device, as there's simply no access to LTE networks without working with carriers in one way or another: Verizon and Sprint's LTE networks still require compatibility with their 3G CDMA systems, and there's essentially no such thing as an unlocked CDMA device. AT&T's fledgling LTE network runs on different frequencies than other LTE networks around the world, so Google would have to build a custom phone for just 77 markets in the US. Doing that without AT&T's financial assistance makes little sense.

Also it explains it pretty well why they didn't make the same mistake by going CDMA like they did on the Galaxy Nexus.
And there's precious little to suggest working with carriers is even in Google's best interests, or in the best interests of Nexus customers. The Galaxy Nexus was announced last year with a promised LTE version on Verizon, but the carrier held back releasing the phone for months to promote its own Droid RAZR instead. Google eventually grew tired of waiting and sent unlocked HSPA+ devices to reviewers. And software updates for Nexus phones sold through carriers have been problematic as well: it took the Verizon three full months to disseminate the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its Galaxy Nexus, slightly longer than Sprint.

All accurate, a good summary.
With its pricing of the Nexus 4 and lack of LTE, Google is quite clearly giving US carriers the finger. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if a CDMA/LTE version appeared for Verizon and Sprint, but LTE doesn't really matter that much if you get decent 3G/3.5G/HSPA+ whatever you want to call it (i.e., not Verizon or Sprint 3G).
Really, anything over a few Mbps is enough for me...but I know other people use their phones differently.

Sprint / T-Mobile / International? WHAT?!?

Hey guys. Just noticed that it's starting to get split up between carriers. Is there going to actually be a difference between carrier and internation? Will they have to use separate ROMs and rooting methods?
Also, Where is T-Mobile's forum? Or is it similar to the sprint model?
Rooting methods might be the same, ROMS will not be compatible across models. There may be multi-carrier roms but you absolutely need to make sure you flash things specifically for your model or you will end up with an expensive paperweight.

If anything the T-Mobile one would be more similar to AT&T sprint is CDMA not gsm
This is why there are different forums for the device on each carrier. It's mean to keep people from getting too flash happy haha. If you flash anything from the "Sprint HTC One" forums, you should be fine.

Only problem I have with splitting them is we may run into the problem the Nexus S forum suffers from, where a lot of ROMs end up only getting posted in the main GSM dev forum, even though they have an NS4G version. Important info, guides, whatever were pretty invisible to the layman. I'm sort of concerned here because it isn't just a split of the dev forum, it's completely different headings for each carrier. It'll be interesting to see how different the models really end up being.

True, but while this is inconvenient for us on Sprint it is far worse when someone inevitably tries to flash a rom without CDMA support and they end up bricking their device. I'd rather avoid that scenario and just force us to link to other threads to get additional information. We have to face facts and that is it normally isn't a smooth process for developers to take a GSM rom and port it to CDMA (I saw this plenty as I currently have a E4GT and that was almost a completely different beast than the other Galaxy S2's).
International LTE seems possible if Freq is right
International LTE seems possible if the Bands are right.
According to engadget. http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/08/htc-one-for-att-sprint-review/
For those of you just getting around to cross-shopping the HTC One against other devices, we'll give you a lightning tour of the handset. On board, you've got a standard micro-USB / MHL port along the bottom edge, as well as a metal volume rocker on the right side, and a micro-SIM tray on the left. Of note, the Sprint One is among the first of the carrier's LTE devices to offer a replaceable SIM.

[Question][Discussion] Do you think that the next Nexus will be available for Verizon

If I remember right, I remember reading a leak somewhere that the next Nexus will be available on CDMA networks. I'll try my best to find the source if anybody wants it. But it'll take a while because I'm on my phone currently. If you do think it'll be available for Verizon and sprint, how would that work. As far as I know, Verizon's SIM cards aren't similar to GSM cards at all. So you'd need an actual SIM card from the Verizon store. Would that mean that Verizon would want complete control over the the phone like the Galaxy Nexus? How do you see this playing out?

Nobody knows. Might as well as for tomorrow lottery winning number.

The LG d120 that went through the FCC and is widely expected to be the next Nexus was both gsm and cdma compatible, as well as having LTE support for AT&T's, T-Mobile's, and Sprint's bands, but unfortunately not for Verizon's. This not good news for Verizon customers, since I doubt they'll allow it on their network without LTE support. I did read some speculation that there might be a separate model just for Verizon, but I kinda doubt it. It's more likely that Verizon are being their usual dickish control freak selves and don't want to play Google's open, unlocked game.

I thought Google wasn't supporting cdma devices anymore. Didn't they drop support for the sprint galaxy nexus because of that? I pretty much thought they wanted to keep it simple and have just one device, since the rest of the world is gsm. Maybe I'm wrong.

Please use one of the existing Nexus 5 threads. Discussion of a phone's successor is allowed, but having numerous threads is not.

Why The Nexus has a bad radio

I have an HTC One and Nexus 5 I love them both dearly. However After extensive research on it's not so good radio (Nexus 5) I have compiled many theories about this and solutions.
Firstly the Nexus 5 is an Unlocked GSM Device which means your carrier isn't involved, Which brings many drawbacks such as tower hand off and other signal factors.
Example: HTC One and Nexus 5 Both in backyard 1 Bar Signal both register around -93Dbm, Bring inside both device's where my T-Mobile Cel-FI is.. Boom HTC One automatically hand's off to that "Tower" and the Nexus 5 still is trying to register itself to the tower it was previously on before. Until 2 Mins later it will register on the Cel-FI repeater.
Why is this? Carrier Devices are better for signal as the carrier optimizes them before releasing the radio to the handset, where as Google and LG release like a very generic radio RIL which works decently for all carriers, however once again there are drawbacks to that as stated above.
To better improve hand off and signal readings see this article I found which helped me http://ianmarmour.com/2014/02/02/google-nexus-5-fixing-modemcellular-issues-on-34g-networks/
Its better than before but still not comparable to an HTC One
So overall carrier devices have much better signal and tower handoff as the carrier optimized the radio as where as a Unlocked device it's very generic and won't be as great as a device from your carrier (This same behavior is present in a Factory Unlocked iphone 5 vs T-Mobile branded iPhone 5)
I expect google to roll out a software update soon to fix this :good: , I hope this helps the majority of you having signal issues

Warid 4G LTE Services Problem on N900a AT&T Galaxy Note 3

Hay, Guys This is @talvigi back with a simple but specific to my region question, and it is most vital for many guys like me because all the dumped devices come directly here.
Sorry guys if someone hurted but truly, now-a-days nobody around me buys a new phone because most of the flagship devices of 2013 and 14 are now available in cheap prices, so who pays a lot for a new phone when he/she knows the thing is going to be 50% cheaper within months if not weeks.
My problem is that i have bought an AT&T Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A (now running Lollipop N900AUCUEOC2 stock, and not rooted i have updated it vide SDcard update from recovery)
As far as we now have Warid 4G LTE Services available in our area and many of my friends are using them on their Gfive LTE 2 and LTE 3 devices, so my concern builds up as i have a better device compared to GFive's LTE 2/3. But i have done all my best to connect to LTE all in vain.
i have tried the method which i saw in the forum and it worked for someone's AT&T Galaxy S4 *#*#0011# but as it was made specifically for Galaxy S4 but i did try it with no result, and i also tried the *#2263# selected LTE Band Preference as LTEB3 (because Warid is on 1800 FDD Band 3) and also selected [7]LTE/GSM Mode Only(*). But still no luck on my note 3.
And in the last the *#*#4636#*#* which brought me to an screen where i was able to see the "Device Info" which shows us i thing all the information currently available in the device and gives us the of RUN PING TEST and there is a thing says :"Set preferred Network type: LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
TURN OFF RADIO and many others.
So guys any one interested helping poor people in the world
And i'm sorry for my poor English and always incomplete questions too,
Still waiting for someone to response my little big question.
My friend's Galaxy S4 i337 also does int Support the Warid 4 G LTE
.
AT&T Galaxy Note 3 @N900A has the band 3 (1800) band
I have checked it by entering to service mode *#2263#. Now the point of talk is that, why the hell it doesn't connect to Warid LTE which is running on band 3, whether this band is banned by the AT&T or does it need some special tweaking to get working on that band my post has some screen shots from service mode. All the devs and gurus are requested to at least comment on it bcz your words are leaders for us guys.

Check if the IMEI on the phone (in About Device, or using *#06#) matches the IMEI on the back of the phone behind the battery. I had an S3 that had this problem, would only work on 2G/GSM, never on LTE, and it was because of a corrupt EFS partition (reflected by incorrect IMEI).
If this is the case, there are ways to set it right, but I believe it is illegal to discuss them here. All I can say is that everything you need to do it is available on these forums. Good luck!
Well the iemi matches and my phone is not a refurbished one so that isn't the case

Your model doesnt support 1800 mhz on band 3.. Lte.. The hardware of modem is not supported, only 9005 model has that band.
