My new secondhand Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just arrived at the Samsung Galaxy Note from a rooted HTC Desire running CM7 and to be honest I am overwhelmed. The seller rooted the Note to Rocket Rom v3 which is fine with me. The phone is huge and for what I want I am certainly not complaining but I do have some basic questions so here goes:
1. How the hell do I get to grips with this flavour of Jelly Bean because I haven't got a clue what I am doing, is there a resource or manual?
2. If I get the Mugen battery which is likely what case do you recommend, please note I have the CASEMATE safe skin so something along those lines would be great.
3. I am finding compared to my Desire the sound seems a bit muffled through the earpiece on calls, is this normal and can I do anything about it
4. When I click on the icon labeled Galaxy Note/S Choice I am greeted with this message...."Get the latest SamsungApps First". I am already registered with Samsung but don't have any Samsung Media icon. So specifically how do I get the Note application?
Sorry for any daft questions but this is all a bit daunting at the moment and don't have a lot of time to faff around so I do appreciate any help

nedampr march
Okay just spotted this:
A case for a Note fitted with the Mugen 5400 battery:
Hyperion Samsung Galaxy Note Extended Battery HoneyComb TPU Case Black (For Hyperion extended batteries)
Apparently someone on Amazon has tried using this Hyperion case with the Mugen extended battery and though a tight fit it apparently worked! Do a search for Mugen on Amazon.com and read the reviews.
I obviously don't know how reliable this information is but might be worth a shot. I'm worried about the chrome effect trim on my Note being damaged.
If anyone has tried other cases then please let me know.

You should start from scratch with your note.. Download from sammobile.com any Gingerbread rom for your country and flash it via odin then you can start getting the OTAs to get up to date..
Read about the Brickbug.. Do not factory reset the device being on stock ICS kernels.

[Q] Is this a great phone to buy if I plan on Rooting/Flashing?

I have worn out my Galaxy S Captivate (ill miss you ol' pal). It has a cracked screen, cracked 3.5mm jack (don't ask how lol), and it has never had a flash either. Also the camera lense is now cracked.
I am about to upgrade to a new phone, and have considered many phones, but I like the sound of the HTC One (not literally the sound), because it is a sleek metal chassis unlike the new, and very expensive, samsung galaxy S4.
I don't plan on going crazy with my phone, I just want to listen to music, have a good camera, and possible use the camera flash as a flashlight (is this possible?)
What are the chances of someone giving me a run-down on their personal experience with the phone, as well as some advice, such as "Is this a good phone to purchase if I want to flash a great ROM and root it? Remove all the bloatware etc.
Here's why I like the HTC One: ( or the idea of it)
It has a metal design
Its screen is under 5 inches
The pixel density
The audio quality (I know BEATS is not a great thing, but the phone seems to implement it well either way into the design)
It has a flash! *my cappy didn't*
It has a minimum of 32gb internal storage, I don't use microSD in my phone
the battery life is said to last super long!
gorilla glass (that's almost a must for me)
Anyways, all help/advice/opinions are seriously greatly appreciated. Please respond!

This phone is definitely a good phone for rooting. A friend of mine is the manager of my local ATT store, and he helped me make your same decision. He kept telling me that if i were a normal user hed reccomend the S4, but because im a modder and a flasher, the One would be my better choice. Boy was he right. A month ago my sister got the S4, and boy does it feel like a piece of garbage in my hand now. I also came from an S3, and i can promise this is a step up in everyway. This phone has excellent hardware, a unique design, and lots of active development. My advice though is to definitely do your homework before trying to root or anything of the sort, because its a worlds different coming from a samsung. I cant think of a single complaint about this phone. Hope i helped, and good luck!
For the phone itself, I'd definitely, highly recommend it. It does have the fast processor, cool camera, excellent battery life and the speaker quality is a game-changer IMO. Plus it's just plain beautiful to look at and great to hold.
For rooting, I'm not sure what carrier you're on, but if it's Sprint, then I can't fully recommend it. The Sprint variant is still stuck on the older 4.1-based ROMs, so being rooted isn't as much fun on this phone as it's been for my past HTC phones. If you're on any other carrier, then you're good to go. I can't think of any compelling reason to not get this phone.
Thank you guys so much for the hasty responses. I'm going to go check this out tomorrow!

Firstly hold the One in one hand and the S4 in another you'll opt for the One in microseconds!
The choice of custom roms and mods available is large.... the only problem you'll have is which to choose.
You will find the ways to unlock the bootloader, obtain root, etc. quite different but there are plenty of guides available in the One forums and plenty of guys to help you along the way.... searching and reading will open a new world to you, take your time and you will pick it all up.
To end..... the One is the best phone I've owned by a long way.
Edit: A day or so ago I read in a review site somewhere where they said that if you want a phone to use out of the box without modifying then choose the S4 but if you want to customise then the One is the way to go.
Yeah, thanks again.
I have been reading some reviews about how terrible the HTC One is, but I don't think people are giving it bad reviews for a good reason.
All the weird/bad reviews have been mostly "iPhone is better" or just "Galaxy S4 is just better because its CPU is 200mHz faster".
I had a hard time deciding between the One and the S4 also. I went for the One based on the fact that
LCD Screen means no burn-in
Speakers are where they should be
Beats Audio chip makes a noticable difference
I'm a pixel junkie
There is a lot of truth behind the "UltraPixel" camera (I went to college for photography)
I'm 100% happy with my decision, and even though the S4 tops all the benchmarks (fully stock), it makes ZERO difference in real world use.

No, for the following reasons:
My phone's already water resistant and dust resistant.
I already have a 3000mah (zero lemon) battery (200mah larger than S5).
I don't want a finger scanner or heart rate sensor.
While the processing power would be nice, my phone (with CM10.2 and other tweaks) already benches higher on AnTuTu than any other devices average (except phablets). Should last me a while.
While I would really like a better camera, I usually have a DSLR on me anyway, and this wasn't my main concern last time either.
No real design changes?
Is there any other hardware changes at all?
I will miss the updates and wider support that it would achieve though, but I'm willing to wait for a Note 4 for that.

S5 is like an inch upgrade of S4 Active, of course, with all the high end AMOLED, camera MP.. Basically that's it. S4 is cheaper and works well, especially coupled with some nice custom roms. BTW.. the 3000mah battery, the brand name is zero lemon??? Samsung doesn't have a larger capacity battery for S4 active. :crying:

Yes, the brand name is Zerolemon
Maybe?
The lack of development for this phone hampers it. My old SGS3 was better. It still works, but when it fell a year ago, it was cheaper to upgrade then to get the screen replaced.
I like the active, but the recent upgrade has broken more things than it fixed. I miss having changing out roms and being able to customize.

Not Likely
After the appalling support the S4A has received from Samsung I will be changing to a Google nexus device or HTC. If it weren't for the likes of Spelgelius / Mythi / LeJay I'd be throwing the active in a deep dark river....
I'm lucky in that I get an upgrade every 8 months or so by passing down my phone to my lad, who then passes his to my wife.... Everyone gets a NEW phone... just mines the newest!!

Are you talking support accessory-wise? I mean, it shares many things with the s4 like the battery, and the software just upgraded to 4.4.2, so I'm not sure how that is appalling. The only one "official" accessory I wanted to see was a wireless charging back. Le sigh.
I've sent my S4a off to Samsung warranty repair twice now since last June. I purchased the phone the first day it came out at ATT. I also put it on T-Mobile the first day it came out.
Twice now I've had to send mine off to Samsung for the back button that stops working. First they gave me a new replacement phone, and recently they replaced everything but the main circuit board (new screen, bezel, buttons, charge port, etc).
I have less than 2 months left of warranty, so I'm not sure what I'm doing past June. Probably getting an S5 (AKA = S4 Active version 2.0).
I will NOT own this S4 Active without a warranty, it's proven to be a POS.
I have a question, (I'm sort of a noob) but, I upgraded to Stock 4.4.2 TW XXUCUNE5 and I want to get the custom rom Ressurection Remix 4.4.2, will this brick my device?

Ressurection Remix rom do not officially support S4 Active.
See resurrectionremix.com under list of Devices.
A correct installation of a supported custom rom for your device will not brick your device.
Forcing or installing a custom rom that is not supported for your device can brick your phone.
Since you upgraded to stock 4.4.2 you have now when in download mode Knox flag 0x0.
Any installation of a custom rom on your device will set the Knox flag to 0x1 and is irreversible meaning warranty will be void.
I bought mine off ebay, and tbh, I thought I was getting a regular S4. I'm kind of surprised at the lack of support for this phone too for as much as they hyped it as being super awesome. I do like it, though I'd rather have the regular S4. What I *really* want is to be able to run BeanStalk on it (it runs on the other S4 Active, not sure what the distinction is), but I'm holding on to this phone until it dies, hoping to buy a PhoneBloks style phone next.

The i537, which you have has a locked bootloader and the i9295 does not. What this means is that the bootloader with verify the signature of every zip file that you try to flash, the i9295 does not have this restriction. This means that they are able to flash custom kernels and custom recovery while us on the i537's cannot.
The i537 can flash custom ROMs that are based on the TouchWiz kernel through SafeStrap, however BeanStalk uses a custom kernel which means it cannot be installed you can flash it through SafeStrap and the phone will not boot. The ROM will be looking for a custom kernel and when it cannot find it, it will bootloop.
Hello,
I've just rooted my S4 Active i9295 with stock firmware 4.4.2 and managed to delete 27 apps that came preinstalled that I've never used such as ChatOn, Samsung apps etc. Are there any other tweaks that can improve my phone's performance? Is there something that especially needs to be deleted or what else should I do next to improve its performances?
Thank you

Current state of custom ROMs on S4 Active?
Hello,
I have an AT&T S4 Active, SGH-I537. I have been able to root it, but haven't gone on to put on a custom ROM because the last I heard, the jackwagons at AT&T locked the phone down. But it looks like it is possible to do this now, but I am not sure because the forum posts are not clear. Is this possible?
If so, I am looking for something very fast, light and clean and for all the hardware to work. Is this available?
Thanks for any help!

looking for "before-i-buy" details, note 9 T-mobile

I'm still rocking an old Note 4 on what seems to be the last possible rom ever released for it (pie) but my hand is forced and i must be moving on to a new device, with T-mobile killing off Sprint's old CDMA services
after some research, it seems Tmo's note 9 is the next best fit for my needs and desires but i dont want to jump in blind.... it looks like the phone modding community is significantly hindered in modern times, compared to 3 to 6 years ago and requirements to root looks to be much more conditional / strict
#1
i am not interested in picking up a device with a halfcocked recovery that is not capable of very important functions, or that can be nullified / wiped / reverted in ways other than directly re-flashing a recovery (or rom) i have seen several recoveries that were subject to such situations over the years..... does recovery enjoy a permanent status on the USA variants?
this is in no way bashing any kind of dev or phone or project, rather trying to identify the "rootability"
#2
from what i see, USA variants are snapdragon / qualcomm, correct?
#3
bootloader details... i experienced with both of my last phone choices that bootloader lockdown has increased with updates... and i seen in another thread here on the Note 9 section that specific bootloader versions are "recommended" so is this a situation of only the older Note 9's being compatible? is this "OEM Unlock" situation involving an exploit or genuinely unlocked as easy as 1 2 3
#4
anything else i should be watching for with the Note 9 such as common types of failure? the ability to root the thing holds my attention to buying this device much more than failures could possibly turn me away, but would like to know what i'm working with
How are you going to verify the battery health on a device thats this old now? Asking for a friend
by using my fingernail to pop off the battery door, removing the old battery and putting in a new one, and pop the door back on
one of the best features to ever exist on a phone, but the world seems to disagree with this notion.

then the backcase wont have a fancy material like alu or glass like now.
and one of the most important reasons is that they want to to buy new phone when your old one get worse battery life, not just a new battery pack.

Good luck using the nail method with the Note 9. You mentioned that's what you were looking at buying a note 9 and my response was how are you going to check its battery health. Remember?
This is a funny thread.
USA variants are Snapdragon, a better processor, however there is the N9600 with dual sim and Exynos, if you must find a Note9 that is easier to root.
Also, battery will last a few years IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT!! ...by not deep cycling it often and slow charging it.
(you can do lots of things to help with battery time, like not cranking up screen brightness, or leaving radios off when not in use).
If you are coming from a Note4 and you like a phone to last 6+ years, then you should look for a phone with replaceable battery and fully unlocked. Thought about a Motorola? (LOL, I might be kidding)
My answer.... Don't buy a USA Note9 if you want unlocked bootloader or "rootability"
Also, don't buy a Samsung. They are not cool anymore.

Galaxy Tab Active3

I am looking for a new WiFi-only 8" tablet. The Galaxy Tab Active3 looks like the best performer with its Exynos 9810 processor and 128GB of memory. I also like its SD-card storage and 3.5mm jack. Price isn't too bad at $509.
Here are the issues that I am running into.
These tablets are not available anywhere. Has anyone purchased one in the USA?
Still running Android 10. Any news on Android 11 or custom ROMs?
Root has not been achieved which would be a deal killer for me. There seems to be some hopeful signs when I do a search
Lack of a dedicated XDA forum group is discouraging that items 2&3 are being actively addressed
Lastly, I dont need the ruggedized feature and would like a slimmer case that can hold up the tablet for watching movies on a plane.
Maybe I need to hold out for a non-ruggedized version of this tablet. Does anyone think that is likely?

ive been looking and this is best 8inch tablet out there right now. Its getting android 11 right now, but idk about root, i dont use root on my tablet. Missing forum group is also bad yes
A slimmer case does not do much good since the tablet itself is already chunky.
I would just use it without a case, it is certainly not as fragile as regular tablets and can take a beating.
I have had one for a couple of days now and it is starting to grow on me. I will probably going to use it as my main device and also use it as a phone.
Today I got the Otterbox Universe case which I like better than the stock case.
The S-pen stores on the side instead of on the top on the Samsung case which I find more convenient.
I would also prefer an 8-inch version of the Tab S7 but we are in a minority.
I have used a Huawei MediaPad M6 8.4 and M6 Turbo 8.4 in the past but these gave problems with certain Google functions (location never worked as it should in certain apps) and the strict killing of apps in the background annoyed me.
Hardware wise they were excellent though, a much more premium feel than the Active3.

I bought one... They are on ebay and being shipped. Be aware many times the 4G version is the same price as the WiFi depending on which knucklehead is selling it. No rhyme or reason. I think B&H is selling them too reasonable. You are looking for a T570 for wifi only and the T575 and T577 for the cellular enabled units. Keep in mind that all of the T575 units I have investigated have dual sim and the second sim can be substituted for a micro SD. The 4G version is just worth more money and is convenient if you have to travel. Especially out of the country. Or if you sometimes work somewhere away from all the pests and distractions. It just makes sense. I bought my open box unit 128gb dual sim through make and offer of $250usd plus 12.50 shipping. There are good deals to be had. Just spring for the 4G one. Its really worth it especially with
I have T575 and can use like regular phone.
Rooted with Magisk ( copied here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...ChAWegQIChAB&usg=AOvVaw2prG-uE2LdqUQQQJWYZaLS )
Take the Magisk modified tar file. Replace vbmeta.img with a zero-byte file, pack it together again, flash it. This is enough for rooting the SM-T575.
But, before that (!!!) check if KnoxGuard got tripped... power down the phone, connect it to USB, then press volup+voldn together. It should not show "KG STATE" at all. If it does, especially if KG STATE is "Checking" or "Prenormal", flash stock with CSC (basically, wipe it), connect it to the internet during setup and keep it continously online and powered for at least 7 days / 168 hours. Only then you will be able to flash.
I have my work's Galaxy Tab Active3 tablet here, which I locked with a password a months ago and I can't seem to recover... Can anyone please tell me how to:
1) Shut it down
2) Enter recovery mode
Any help would be appreciated!!

Just search for GALAXY NOTE S PEN and chose the one with the highest rating. I would assume the note 20 edition with a 4.9 score would be good but it might as well be just the same as every previous note pen.
I have tried an original note 9 pen and it works flawlessly.
Bear in mind that buying the cheapest product with a lower score might not be great as the S pen might have low sensitivity. Back in the note 5 days I got me a cheap Chinese knock-off and although it worked, I had to press a bit harder on the screen than I should have had to.
Just 5 minutes ago I went onto Ebay and found a samsung pen for a note 4, for like $2. I'm going to try it and throw it away if it doesn't work well.
The trick was choosing an ugly color that nobody wanted, in my case "coffee" color I guess is not very popular, but the price changed for that color only, the other colors were like $6.
I'm hoping to use this as a temporary thing until Samsung releases the fancy full featured pen.

I'd like one if you can share a link -- or, maybe I should wait for you to try it and then report back to us?
