the cab file is a simple way you install an app on your device. Just click on the cab and it should begin installation. Pay attention to where you are sending the cab on your device so that it is easy to find and just click and install. A Zip file is a compressed file or files. You must uncompress before you can install the cab. sometimes you will find the cab file inside the compressed zip file. Another format for compression is rar files. I use winrar to uncompress to desktop.
I strongly suggest that you read this forum as much as possible to learn as much as you can. Read the FAQ's and the WIKI. Also do research on your particular phone to learn its strenghts and weaknesses. There is lots to learn and you will have to do lots and lots and lots of reading. Don't get discouraged, just keep reading. There is a wonderful search feature as well to search for specific things. It takes a little getting use to; however, once you figure it out - how to use it efficiently, you will find things - answers - really easily. Some threads are really long and you will probably want to skip right to the end of the thread. _ Don't. Read the whole thread before posting. Some members get really frustrated with new commers who don't read before asking questions.
Good luck, have fun and remember - READ

Anyone have a simple step by step instruction on how to install stratagus. The directions that most of the pages come with ask for things that I am completely unfamiliar with. I am new to this Mobile App modification thing so I need a little help in trying to make the stratagus work on my Mobile.
thanks,
I have stratagus for warcraft2 and starcraft
both I installed manually by simply copying the dir content
to my sdcard and making a shortcut to \windows\startmenu\programs\games
and thats it
Okay so let me get this straight, I get all the directory content from the zip file and place it in a folder in my Storage Card for both the game and the emu engine. And then make a shortcut that leads me to that folder?
help please wanted before i pull all my hair out' bite all my nails off and become the man to launch a xda ll off of beachy head.......grrrrrrrrrrrr.
my problem is, i have windows mobile 6.1.6965 and running widows 7.
everything hooks up ok, i can see whats on my mobile, but when i download ext,rom unlock and unhide, plus hima_doc plus pnewboot, which are zipped folders, i tried to unzip them through winraa and its always asking for the next file to carry on to a full unzip, ive tried for hoursssssssssss with no luck.
all im trying to do is unhide my extra space format it and install a new operating system.
also when i try to extract any zip file to my xda, a screen opens to ask where i want to drop them to, but i cant see my pda in this screen, i was wondering was this the fault of windows 7.
im realy new to this so a walkthrough with step by step upgrade instructions would be great ie do i need to leave my sim card in and unlock ext_rom and installing a operating system.
i know this takes time to explain this, but this is a excellent forum and i hope there is a kind member out there that would do this.
many thanks in advance

you want to install another operating system next to win mo 6.5?
You can't do that.
when you do the himadoc tool you only get about 10mb more space for apps/

just use 7zip or winrar to extract the stuff on this link on your pc-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332215
then copy to hima and run the .cab and .exe with a good file explorer ie. total commander pocket or resco file explorer....
then just follow the prompts and what is said here -

I have searched, read, and tested my butt off on this so, I'm not posting without doing my own homework.
I'm looking for CURRENT documentation on how to create a standard update.zip file that simply copies a file into /system/foo/bar and chmods it.
All the links I've looked at seem to have old deprecated syntax on the update-script file, or the examples given simply do not work.
I do NOT want to download someone else's script-pak, windows app, or any other such thing that makes it for me.
As for signing, I'm completely comfortable signing using the SDK, although I'll probably take the easy route with ZipSigner/Signapktic running on the phone/tab now that I've discovered those.
Can someone please post a very simple howto?
Greetings:
Noob alert
I am following the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500
I am attempting to root my Nook HD+ and find the instructions great. Sadly after searching and trying to follow other links I am lost and missing a file, unable to find it.
I am looking for the following file and am hoping someone could provide me a direct link rather than my endless search. My thanks in advance for any direction
File needed is:
cwm-recovery-ovation-2.zip (CWM installable package for Nook HD+)
