Good day fellow Xperia users!
After using the Xperia Play for a while I switched to the Xperia Z today.
On my Xperia Play I have a unlocked bootloader and use Doomkernel with the stock rom. (And love it!)
I would like to unlock the bootloader of this phone aswell, however a few questions remain.
Phone info: C6603 - v 4.1.2 - 10.1.A.1350
- My model is: C6603.
Could not find a topic about rooting this model, could anyone link me to the correct topic?
(Scared to flash the wrong stuff, to the wrong model.)
(Service menu does say it can be unlocked.)
(I guess the right topic would be: [ROOT] Xperia Z (C660x) for unlocked bootloaders ONLY! (RELEASED) but please ensure me.)
- Can anyone link me to the correct files needed to unlock the bootloader?
(As in, can someone link me to the set of files that contains everything needed for this?)
(I know there is a set for Xperia Play, however Iam not sure or they would work.)
- Should I insert a SIM card when unlocking the bootloader?
- Should I wait for my phone to load to 100% battery?
Iam sorry if the questions above have been explained before, Iam sure they are.
However you would really help me answering these questions, I would be really thank full.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Thanks for the link gm007.
However some questions still remain:
- Should I insert a SIM card when unlocking the bootloader?
- Should I wait for my phone to load to 100% battery?
Anyone?
Kind regards, Stefan.
You can keep the sim inserted no problem.
Always Charge the phone to 100% before flashing anything, maybe something goes wrong.

Okay im new and im looking around to find out how to flash a new rom. So i see the thing is i need
- rom manager
- flash clockworkmod recovery.
- press the button to install new rom
**( of course we are supposed to press the button to backup first. whatever i dont need backup if i have everything on dropbox and netqin sync and from there i can have everything i want at any other phone too. i dont care for settings , they are a matter of 10 minutes to download and setup the apps ).
So i try this thing.
1) I go root my phone and i get the first error. SystemBackupTest fails to run. yes i have done it properly according to the guide.
Ok whatever i think. maybe the guide is too old and jelly bean 4.1.2 20b has issues with that apk. i search around and i find the other way to root my phone. i download this file : http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/50635135/file.html, i go into recovery mode and i press root. success! im rooted.
2) since im new i test it out. i start installing whatever i find in google play and start tweaking things ) then i return it back to stock and do other tweaks. now i search for new rom. i read guides here about several rom. i now try it.
i install rom manager , i follow the guide and get error boot image signature. ok i press vol down and power button and restart. i check around here a bit about this error. i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241754. so i see that i have to unlock the bootloader. so i find this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190326. i follow the guide and i fail because i get a message that unlock is denied. searching around i find another thread that sais ROOT MANY ANDROID. oke im confused. i cant find a proper guide around. can we make it a little easier ? can we delete the oldest threads-roots- .. whatever and keep the new ? can we clean up or sort things up please ? the older members of course are pro to all this but the newer ones we dont understand anything. we need one week only to understand where we have to click next......
So for me and any other new guy later on, what do we have to do ? where is a working guide to root the lg optimus 4x v20b and if there is not , then where is a proper guide to unlock the bootloader ? thanks............
Also here ... it sais many many wierd things. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35812268
someone sais where is made from. wt ?? the root guide naver said this is actually for japan, or this is for germany or whatever. every search i do i get to read "new" things scattered around. sort things around. delete old useless threads that get nowhere or pin at start the new ones working on the new firmware. am i wrong ?
1) This is the "original development" section. Read the rules to find that your topic should NEVER be here. (How could you even post here? Is the 10-posts-limit disabled?)
2) Don't do anything unless you know what you're doing
3) Use search function (I see you did, but still a lot to learn you have)
4) Don't use Rom Manager
5) Use search function to find out why 1-4 apply.
6) Extra hint: There's an index on the 1st page of "general section".

that didnt help at all....... thanks for moving my thread here, maybe i got dizzy after so much reading and post it there but im still searching ........ Since 8 hours im searching , following guides and restoring ...
i have lg optimus 4x p880. os: 4.1.2 - 20b. can someone tell me at least one way to install a whatever rom ?
dont tell me follow the guide or things like that , im following them. just show me links what to do and be sure for those links that will work.
Ok, I'll help you. There's a thread called "unlock-relock tool". Use it once and you're unlocked. Then get TWRP from the TWRP thread. Install it via fastboot. Then download the rom you like, boot to recovery and flash it. That's all.
And for root: There's two different ways for ICS or JB. Use the appropriate one. (4.2.1 is JB, in case you didn't know.)
I don't have the links st hand, but there's this index linked in my signature...

I think that's enough to say. I bet yo have internet access so you can search the whole web. Trust me, you will find the answers to all the questions you asked here because they are already answered.
As already stated very often in this forum, xda is not a noobie helpdesk so search and read yourself.

you mean this forum is only for developers and for developers asking help from developers about how to make their new custom rom ? if thats it , then im sorry ill find another forum to ask help. Maybe you are SO pro that you cant help someone without knowledge to unlock the bootloader. But i dont even see anyone else answering too. Maybe indeed the bootloader of 4.1.2 20b cant be unlocked yet and instead you tell me keep searching. Anyway i didnt put up this thread to fight with random people. I need help. If u actually cant help then thank you ill get help from someone that can. its the help section after all , not the world war z.
Hey, I told you how to do it. It's not my fault if you don't understand the tutorials or the software that the devs provide. It's all written down, maybe you should read it after having some sleep

You can't flash a rom when the bootloader is locked, can you? That would be a surprising fact for me... Guess you did unlock it but didn't know about it

to flash a rom.. yes..
what kind of rom ? is it stock rom ? or custom rom..
stock rom flashed using different tools than custom rom..
to flash custom rom, you need to flash custom recovery first..
to flash custom recovery, you have to unlock the bootloader first...
that's the basic knowledge

vanir rom. cant be more custom xD i pressed: 3845#*880# which is supposed to check bootloader status and gave me the message: error connection or mmi code is not valid.
Now im thinking if i can flash werewolf kernel in use with vanir rom. is it possible or the kernel has to go with specific roms ?
The command you used only works on LG stock roms.
You can use werewolf kernel but you have to use cm10.2 version

Hi I am new to this forum, so my apology if I have started this thread in the wrong place.
I have recently found out that my Sony Xperia Z phone's bootloader isn't unlockable! :crying:
I have rooted my device, and modded it for the best experience I could get. However, since my bootloader isn't unlockable, I can't install any custom roms! And without a good rom I cant make my phone... well, mine! I was wondering if there are any ways around this whole locked bootloader thing.. If there's a process to actually unlock it? If not, I guess that's alright... But PLEASE tell me there is a way to flash some kind of custom rom to my device with a locked bootloader. I was really interested in getting the Pac-Rom until I found out this news. I am no expert to this whole rom thing, so try not to be too techy for me please. If there is any custom roms available without a unlocked bootloader, PLEASE give me a link or something. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I don't know how it looks like with stock based custom roms and not unlockable phones. But I think it would be work because it is for locked bootloaders also. You can find them also here on xda. You have to give a look at the thread name to see if it is for you. It must be written LB. (lb= locked bootloader)

If you have a GSM Dev Edition you can do all that stuff. I believe that AT&T's and Verizon's Moto X's are locked.
You can use Safestrap, which creates a partition which you can flash custom Roms, but I believe you have to be on Android 4.2.2 to do it. All it does is create a partition so the official android version is always there and you will have less storage to use by using safestrap. There are no custom kernels for Safestrap to my knowledge.

not even sure what good root does for me, yes I want access in root explorer , and some other things , but not having a recovery is limiting, I really dont like stock recovery but not having any or relying on adb isnt really an option , guess ill just play with it awhile and be like the general population and be clueless for a while!

You'll likely be dead before a bootloader leak comes out. Lenovo being in charge will change nothing. If an OEM wanted their phone on VZW or ATT, they're going to have to play by the carrier rules.

Why exactly do you need a custom recovery? There aren't any roms worth flashing, not when Moto got it right with the software. There aren't any kernels either. Root gives you access to Xposed which gives you access to GravityBox and native tethering.
If you really need a custom recovery, return or trade your phone for a Dev edition.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you can use J Case's SlapMyMoto for the Moto X's with a locked boatloader. But you'll need to be ready to put in some work because it looks a little confusing with downgrading to 4.2.2 then upgrading back to 4.4. I'm not very experienced with all this stuff either so I could be wrong. Might be worth checking it out though just in case.

I personally think OP should stick to Samsung devices and/or Nexus devices for now. Most of the dev-support breaks down to those two devices anyways. Also, the fun of Moto X lies in the fact it's really good with Stock ROM by itself with its special features. Installing Custom ROMs removes the primary reasons for even considering Moto X (active notification/touchless controls/motorola assist).
Well part of the fun of Android is being able to customize it, if all i wanted was a locked down OS id get an iphone and be just another flappybird idiot , there wouldnt be a need for XDA , maybe they can open an xda site for non custom stuff , most of you on here who have been using motorola products should do yourself a favor and try samsung or htc and find out what youve been missing ,sure there phones are good stock, but there amazing customized. I dont want to buy a Corvette that i cant customize to my own liking, just saying

Sorry to inform you, but if you're still in the return period, you should return that phone. AT&T and (regular) Verizon version are bootloader locked, there are no way to unlock them yet, if ever. You should get the GSM Developer edition, you can unlock its bootloader without voiding your warranty, then you can easily use fastboot to flash custom recovery and flash anything.
Also don't let other tells you how you should use the phone, it's Android, use it however you like. However, you should be careful next time to not buy locked down devices like AT&T and Verizon carrier locked phones, it's pretty much a given. Go with international unlocked, developer edition or Google Play edition. Also some phones are more moddable than other. Nexus phones give you unlimited freedom in term of flashing and customizing.
There is no reason to buy a AT&T locked devices if you intended to pay full price for the device, get the unlocked version instead, they will work on AT&T.

Well I researched a little bit , frankly its gonna be spare anyway , ill probably keep running my OG Note as I prefer it over even my note II , but I will run it you bet on that . One thing is for sure XDA is doomed if they continue locking the boot loader , dev fones wont be worth the fuss , even Win Fones have sone merit

what modding and flashing is there if the bl is locked ? sure you can put fancy themes up there , but is there? Without recovery (custom recovery) , there is no flashing mods , custom mods, theres really nothing else , those of you who have been stuck in Motorola world (which by they way they made the cpu for apple for many years as well, a main reason why apples sucked too) , should try something by an unknown chinese company because those will be the only androids worth messing with in the years to come, or go get an sIII or Note , start modding and getting a custom recovery and then tell me how great stock is!

Sell your phone. For you and your expectations .....you made the wrong choice. Plain and simple. Its not android, Google, or Motorola's fault.

Hi all,
First of all hats off to all the contributors of this site. Really, without you guys, many people will be wasting money and wandering around for solutions. This site has amazing content.
So, to start with. I have a Sprint HTC One which says SIMLOCK enabled when i switch it on. and when I insert a SIM, it says some UICC code not set something..like that...
I am in India now, and I want to use this phone with the local carriers here.
Here are the details of the phone:
Model No: HTCPN072
UICC ID : Not available
IMSI(UICC) : Not available
After doing initial research on this forum, I understood that, I need to unlock bootloader first, and then root and flash ROM.
when i go to bootloader (press volume down + power button) the first line shows 'unlocked' on the screen. Does it mean , bootloader is unlcoked?? Please confirm.
All I want is to use this phone in India. I found various methods to unlock, root and flash custom ROMs, but I wanted to go with XDA - but unfortunately, when l opened forums for Sprint HTC One, I see lot of posts and threads, and the result is I am lost. I dont know where to start.
I know you would have answered many questions like this, I dont want to waste your time though so point me in right direction by providing links
I would be grateful , if you direct me to the right threads for this. Also please give me links where we have all-at-one-place.
Thanks again.

Ok read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244060 You have already an unlocked bootloader, so skip this part and go directly to flash recovery (I suggest TWRP)
The recovery will ask if you want to root
Finally install the "Sprint HTC One SIMunlock helper" from play store and follow the instructions
