[Q] firmware v10h update error - LG Optimus 4X HD

So today i received an update offer for V10h and when the phone restarts to install the update, it says err 0x13e. can somebody help me please

Reset your phone to its original state (restore modified apks, build.prop changes and frozen apps) and then try again. If it still fails, use the kdz method.

Or you can start from the end. With kdz you should be able to keep all apps and files but its useless once that after root (you'll lose it) it's advisable to do a factory reset...

Depends what you call "Original"...
Right now the original state (in european phones) is with the stock V10H firmware.
If you mean with the same version like when you bought it, you need to download the respective .kdz of version that it has when you bought it, flash it and do a factory reset.

does flashing a kdz file do anything to the prop build?

OK, first...
"The build.prop file is your android handset’s ‘ID card’. It tells applications the specifications of your device, so that apps can change their interface or function for your specific device. Editing the build.prop file is most commonly used for changing LCD density, build number and your device’s model or manufacturer. Changing your ‘fingerprint’, model or manufacturer can trick some apps in the market to become compatible with your device.
WARNING: Be very careful when editing this file. Accidental deletion or alteration will cause some pretty serious inconvenience. If you don’t know what it does, don’t change it!"
You can see complete article here:

Second, the kdz flash will re-install your FW version, upgrading or doungrading, depends of what you choose. Basically it overwrites the FW files, that's why OTA upgrade are so small, they contain only the necessary files while kdz contains the intire FW file system etc...
I'm not sure soo, if you want you can wait for better answer but, I think it will overwrite it.

so i followed the kdz method and my phone still says s/w upgrade please wait while upgrading. how long is this gunna take because its been like 1hr and its still like that

Watch this video, its in portuguese but I gave some hints in english, you'll be able to see how it works. Jump the boring parts if you want and see it in 1080p in full screen.

Can't access to /system/csc/ITV/system

Hi guys!
I have a problem, sigh...
I had a Note with the stock firmware KKA/KK5 and I had flashed it with ODIN the LB1 DBT stock rom.
Now I have done e deep clean and I have reflashed the KKA/KK5 stock rom without problems or errors.
Now the system had warning me about a update... to LB1. So I have loaded the update.
Seems all okay... but now if I go in the recovery mode, I have this error:
multi csc
can't access to /system/csc/ITV/system
Anyone can help me? I would like to delete this error.
thanks!
stefano
I fixed mine with a full wipe, then boot into the system, and skip the google account setup, and then reboot into recovery, and the csc was re applied.
Alternately, which will result is a full wipe anyway, is to chnage your CSC manually. You can use CSC selector from the market, or use the short codes.
Thank you for your reply!
I have done any attempt, but nothing.
If I try to change the csc, the display show me only one CSC... that is ITV... and It should be right.
But if I go in revovery mode, I receive always the same error... cant access to.. ecc. ecc...
If I put the KKA Italy stock firmware the error doesnt appear.
If I do the OTA update... I have the error.
Please, help, I dont understand why!
bye!

FOUND THE ANSWER!!!after surfing the WHOLE net i found the way...and i'm sure than NOBODY has ever found the answer so this should be useful for all users!!
simply downgrade to an old directly rootable gingerbread version (in my case the kka kk5 ITV on a no brand italian galaxy note)...after having the device rooted download root explorer and get to this folder.....system/csc/ ..there you'll find a looot of csc folders (HUN, ITV, etc)...each one comes from a different nation, simply copy and paste to a pc folder or external sd folder always with root explorer...then when you'll have updated to the latest firmware simply paste the csc folders that you need ( or all of them, so you can manually change csc without the hateful "must be three chars" writings) in to system/csc/ folder...i think that this problem will solve a lot of request on the net...i stayed awaked all night to do downgrades, upgrades etc...so hope this will be helpful to all xda users!
cheers \m/

[Request] In need of PowerOff.apk and PowerOff.odex

Hi all,
Incidentally, I removed the application poweroff.apk with Titanium Backup, and I not did the backup. Now, my phone is not shutting down. When to put turn off, it just restarts.
I am with an enormous anguish. My question: I can turn it off by the battery, it will again turn on? I am with fear that the same reason that he is not shutting down, run the risk of it not connecting.
That is because I take the opportunity to change the firmware, and pass the v20q for the v20s. How to do it with Smartflash,I need disconnect the device to complete the procedure.
What do I turn it off again?
Can I change the firmware?
Please, I need help!
Thank you.

Someone uses the RootExplorer?
I pulled out my battery like a hundred times. Nothing should happen.
You need to either reflash your ROM or install the update, both will give you the apk back.
Open terminal, write:
su
poweroff
It might work, let me know

No, but I've done way worse things than that
Don't worry, nothing will happen.
And even if you hit the 0.00001% chance and are stuck - luckily we do have NVFlash and can unbrick every softbricked phone.
That's one big advantage of the LG 2x! You need to damage the hardware to brick the phone.

I tried reboot, but the apk not returned. It only restarted normally.
There are an .apk and an .odex (poweroff) located in (System/app/)
I will try Reflash.
To Extract .kdz or .bin
Before performing the reflash, is there any way to extract the file .kdz or .bin from firmware I'm using in by Win7? With this, look for poweroff.apk, to extract, and put in my phone.
If it is noobish, then I apologise sincierly, but I have an idea.
Is it not possible to extract from other phone and upload it somewhere for you to put in your phone?
Like for example, would it help if say I (stock/root/ 2.3.4 O2X) get it for you and uploaded to some fileshare thingy?
(My understanding (being new to O2X but long running user of Androids (G1, Milestone 1, O2X) is that no matter what you do to your software, there is always flash, or nandroid bckup, or ROM install. So no worries. )

[Q] How do I Factory Format?

I installed a bad apk (rc from a developer) and now even after uninstall and clearing the data the phone keeps on stuttering and hanging, freezing, ...
I fear a factory reset won't be enough to fix this. Also to be sure I would like to do a factory format instead.
I already tried the *2767*3855# dial code, but this doesn't work for the P880.
Anyone knows how to reflash (factory format) the ROM? But from within the phone.
Preferably not by flashing the kdz files, looks to risky to me.

If you're having problems with some apps or settings of the latest version, its enough when you downgrade to the earlyest one and do the factory reset.
The phone will reset everything from the latest version.
After that, you can upgrade again to the latest having a clean install, the phone will overwrite the files from the earlier version.

Its very easy to flash the phone, the thread is a little confuse cause a lot of users have different problems and doubts.
The steps are easy.
Download the "kdz-update" folder from the link on that thread
Download the FW version that you want.
Install "msxml" (from the kdz-update folder)
Run and turn ON the "Windows Enabler" (from the kdz-upload folder)
Take out the battery
Press "Vol-" and while pressing connect phone to computer untill you see on the phone screen "FW update"
Run "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin". Settings:
"Select type">>>>>>>>>>>CDMA - SmartPhone(WM)
"Work Directory">>>>>>>> The kdz-upload folder where is better to put the kdz FW files inside
"Select model.dll">>>>>>>>Choose from the kdz-upload folder ther file "X3_2008_v0.0.6.9.dll" or "P880.dll", both of them work fine
"PhoneMode">>>>>>>>>>>EMERGENCY
"Select kdz file">>>>>>>>> Choose the V10x that you download
Click on "Start Upgrade"
The program will start with the kdz file extraction, after a few seconds you'll see on the log that it start to write on the phone, thats when you need to put back the battery on the phone.
Just need to wait about 3-5 minutes and its done :victory:
The other way is using the Official tool but latest FW for Turkey is V10C soo, its useless for you...

I did install an earlier version, cleared data and uninstalled, rebooted the phone and installed the newest Play Store version (not the rc version) again but still had the problems.
Anyways, I tried to fix it manually by first uninstalling the app again. Then went to my root explorer and search in my phone (/ folder) for files related to the app name and deleted all those. Rebooted the phone, installed the latest app version from play store and for now all works well again. But didn't test the phone completely yet.

I know, but I read somewhere that LG checks your phone when flashing the Firmware, and doing it that way they know the phone was bricked due to rooting or other 'out of warranty' things..
Or am I totally wrong on this aspect?

Flashing or rooting the phone (like we explain!!!) don't brick your phone.
Forget about what you read.
And if you have some problem and need to go to LG warranty, just need to flash the phone with the Official Tool.

Plus, modifying the software doesn't void your warranty; there was some new EU ruling about that, i read it a few weeks ago. The KDZ flashing method isn't even something inofficial, as it is also used by LG. So just fix it that way.

Tell me how is that possible.
Off course that if we mess with the stock firmware or apps (some of them), we don't have other solution than
re-flash it but, in normal conditions a stock firmware should be unbrickable by Factory Reset... like that, the cure kill the patient...

Like I said before... if the FW is stock, the flash was a clean one, and if no files are deleted, looks kind of impossible.
Of course the flash can be "unclean". Its enough to change country version, a little of bad luck, and we'll have a contaminated install
Dexter is right but, partitions don't get ruined without any app install or without something move the files or modify them... unless there is some hardware issue but, thats different, and it's never fault of Factory Reset.
Factory reset just reinstall the firmware from a "safe" location. If that location is damaged or corrupted is because something there happend.
If I do a factory reset now, Chrome, World Clock and some others won't be installed, cause I delete the install files. The same can happens with other files, and make the re-install impossible.
What you had was faulty install.
Weird, cause factory reset only deletes the userdata partition... it doesn't touch the system partition or boot, or bootloader...

The problem here was not what it delete but, what it read or where it written.
ARS performs the factory reset based in previously installed firmware. That firmware needed to be installed, and how it was installed or if something happend to those files, may result in a faulty install.
Unless, like I said before, there is a hardware problem that makes impossible read/write install files.

Actually, the recovery dictates where the phone should be formatted (the partition)... so that's even more weird 'cause we can't touch the recovery...
Probably a hardware issue...

100% sure its hard... my crystal ball runned out of batteries
What I use to do is, downgrade to the earliest version (V10A), factory reset to clean files from previous version, upgrade via B2Capp (I think it format somehow the internal storage before install the new firmware, I think that because I always loose root and all the apps that I have installed, with kdz upgrade the apps remain and most part of the time root also remains).
After that, root and factory reset again (to delete install files from the root process).

Anyone working with flashtool?

As the version which determines if you are unlockable is decided during the flash, I was wondering if anyone is actually having a go at modding any update softwares? Basically what it needs to do is recognise any IEMI as euro open. Unless its in the KDZ updater script, in which case we need modded kdz. Desperate to get the BL unlocked and just wondered if anyone was working on this

Maybe the flash process is kind of interactive...
The Firmware/Software is presented to the device and than the device "ask"/"choose" for what to install. Allowing or not to install what the FW/SW file contains.
Being like that, using a manipulated kdz or dz file, the result might be a faulty install, or faulty OS.
The flash programs showns a lot of parameters running while flashing, the meaning I don't know but, might be some kind of "equation" between device and the flash program.
I think that the only way to make it possible, will be making NVFlash working on the device and on this kind of .dz file.
Who cares if the installation is faulty! Once BL is unlocked we could flash rom again really hope theres a solution soon, I've been missing cm10 since I got this thing
