Hi All,
I just purchased my Captivate yesterday from Costco (Expecting to still get the 2.4 Eclair) but unfortunately I got the Froyo 2.2 on my new captivate.
I tried rooting it using superoneClick and it just gets stuck on "Waiting for Device". I have drivers properly installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine (because I can use the phone and access its internal SD card).
Can anyone have suggestion or faced similar problems?
I have tried disabling/re-enabling usb debgging while it says "Waiting for the device"
Search the forum. There are a few threads floating around on different ways to root the stock froyo build. I don't know why the superoneclick wont work in your case but a search will turn up some info for you.
thanks. I will search the the threads and will post my results here in this thread for someone like me struggling with the same problem.
If you were planning on flashing a custom ROM after rooting anyway, you could use Odin one-click from download mode to flash 2.1 eclair, and then go from there.
Are you sure you are enabling debugging? I just used superoneclick on my phone last night after I flashe dback to stock.
First thing I do is change the phone in settings to - Ask on Connection, then I enable debugging.
Also you could try a different USB port on your computer and also make sure you have all of your necessary drivers installed.
I hope you get it figured out!
PeteSeiler2010: I haven't tried different USB port yet. I will try tonight and see if it goes through.
For usb debugging, I tried that as I mentioned. Let me just conform what I did. When it says "Waiting for device" for several seconds, I disconnected USB cable from either phone or computer (because it says that if you are stuck on "waiting for device", disable and re-enable usb debugging) because without disconnecting the cable, phone didn't let me disable the USB debugging..
So looks like I am missing something here??

want a much easier method? install speedmod kernel using odin, reboot into recovery, advanced features (not the CWM version), and choose the option that says something like "root phone" and choose the "simple" option. congratulations, you are now rooted and running a custom kernel with CWM that can install a custom ROM.
next time, please do not post this in development as this has NOTHING to do with development. Q&A or general next time, please.
How did someone with no posts, post a question in this section? I thought you had to have a minimum of 10 posts to post in here.
I am sorry if I have missed that rule for the new posting but I am new (just two days old) into the android world and for the xda forums as well..

thats when I just registered.. I will be the active member now as I officially own the android phone.
I really appreciate all of you guys work and I didn't mean to offend any one by posting the thread here.
I already apologize for missing the rule for the 10 minimum posts on forum before posting.
I rooted my device successfully by using odin. Thanks all of you for the suggestions.
Hey guys. I recently made a USB otg cable and I have TRR 1.5 ICS rom. when I plug it in Clock selection dialogs pops up. question is Which Rom and kernal paired... would run the USB otg host mode???
I'll appreciate for the help...
AFAIK many had tried to get it going on various ICS Roms, and no-one succeeded. Do let us know if you manage to connect it.
Sure dude... But its the ICS kernal which doesnt have OTG support right... ???
Galaxy note
Yeah, it seems so.
hey guys,
First I think I dont need to open a new thread for my question. So asking it here.Has anyone managed to connect another android phone as host to your note?I tried with my old nokia 2700 and it works and when I tried to connect my sgs it didnt but it charges in ac mode.So anyone tried to connect your android phone to your Gnote?
Hi XDA! I would really appreciate some troubleshooting help with my phone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S i896 Captivate. A while ago I had to restore it to factory settings when I screwed up a rom install. It's therefore no longer rooted, and is on the very ancient 2.1 firmware.
I have been trying to update it to something more usable, but of course Samsung Kies is abhorrent, so I've had no luck there, and I've run into a bigger problem. The phone charges, but no matter which of my usb ports I use (I've tried different computers and cables), the device will not be recognized.
I've tried with debugging on and off, and for reference I'm running Windows 7 on both computers I've tried.
How can I fix this USB port issue, and get it to a newer firmware?
Thanks for any help you can give, I appreciate it.
Try Heimdall. It installs it's own usb driver (libusb) only to the port that you are connected to at the time of the install.
There is a master collection of one clicks that is a stickied thead in the Dev forum with several Stock firmwares to choose from...specifically check out the first four posts. And TRusselo has an updated flashing guide that is a stickied thread in the q &a forum if you want to flash a dev rom.

Hello,
I am sorry that I have to write hear but I can't write in development :/
I wanted to update to Android 4.2.2 (recently I have CM 10.1 beta 2) so I paid and download and ... when I run install batch. I receive:
"Nvflash started
USB device not found"
I supposed it is driver issue. I checked in Device Manager and I found Dell Android ADB Interface, I found on this forum that it should be named nVidia. But there is no such driver in a package. What to do? Help please
I checked on second computer and I have the same. I am using Windows x64 on both machines.
best regards
I'm on W7 64 bit. That should work for you now but drivers can be a PITA. Delete that driver, reboot and reinstall. If that doesn't work download the NVflash file again.
He didn't put the device in APX mode.
The fact that it see's Dell ADB says he is in typical Android mode.

The fact that he said this, tells me he wasn't in APX mode. If had been in APX mode it would have not showed this, also he said he put it in APX mode and it now worked :victory:

Since I seldom flash my DS7, I forget! I'm so use to using my N10 now although I use the DS7 daily. What mode was he in then?
I've noticed different names in my device manager after connecting my N10 and once in a while the DS7. The name Android Bootoader or something like that comes up. Still works just different name.

I use a OtterBox case so I'm pressing through it to the real buttons. Holding both down is a handful and sometimes it just boots normally.
hey guys..does anyone know if the jb 4.2.2 rom developped by ccxxx works/will work with the t-mobile ds7 (4G)??
i'm just curious as it appears from the postings in the ds7 android development page that they're talking about the wifi only version of the ds7..
can anyone comment/confirm this??
The one he built is no different than mine. He just copied my work. Its wifi-only.

well giveen,
i guess with all the talk/chatter none of these other cats has/will develop a jb 4.2.2 rom for the ds7 t-mobile 3G/4G edition.
i know that you were well on your way to doing just that..having separate roms for the wifi only and the 3G/4G versions of this device..
since ccxxx jb 4.2.2 rom for the ds7 is just a copy of your work..well why should i bother installing it?
i think that ccxxxx and those other cats could really be really helpful in getting jb 4.2.2 to work with the t-mobile 3G/4G version of ds7 and not just put a refresh or a new coat of paint on all the hard work you almost single handedly and painstakingly put in..
you are a good man giveen..keep plugging on dude!!!
Nope, I'm done.
I'm being a greedy bastard and with 2078 (and going) downloads and not a single donation, I don't care anymore.
I tried to sell it to motivate myself to continue but apparently its against the rules of XDA.
School keeps me busy these days plus getting more involved with information security people.

so the question is..
will anyone else besides giveen attempt to do a jb 4.2.2 rom for the ds7 t-mobile/4G?
i'm willing to give my support or two cents in helping with this build..
i know that there are modified rom or two out there using android hc 3.2 by dj steeve and the manii that work on the 4G ds7..
it'll probably take some effort but maybe it can be done..
will somebody really give it a shot of getting android jb 4.2.2 running on the 4G ds7??
i'd love to see this rom come to life..
Help dell streak camera
Hello I installed ANDROID 4.2.2 on my DELL STREAK 7 I have the camera and the photo does not work someone t there a patch that can allow me to make the camera work or if there is a possibility of return to a previous version or I can use the camera because I really need in my work
any KitKat for DS7 3/4G?
now that android 4.4 KitKat can run on older devices 512MB RAM, will anybody attempt doing any work on the 3/4G version of the ds7?
i know devs like the manii, giveen, DJ Steve have all done great work in the past with some awesome ROMS but the 3/4G version never seemed to get it going. i hope that it gets done now that KItKat is available.
I've hadn't been able to get a hold of DerArtem for months now, as he is the developer for the RIL.
I do intend on doing KitKat, hopefully in a month or so.
sorry
I'm sorry to see you leave @giveen. I currently have a 3G (i noticed you don't) version of DS7 and i wanted to use your CM10.1.
However, whenever i download (tried on 3 different providers on some of my servers) the archive seems to be corrupted. Also, not seeing any instructions doesnt really help me. Can you send me a pm with your link and instructions ?
Thanks.

New copy uploaded to goo.im, that should fix the corruption.
Basically, I have posted this exact same problem here months ago, but with not a lot of help. I came here to get help and I intend of leaving with a bit of some. Basically, I rooted my HTC One, turned S-On, and finally installed Cyanogen Mod. Everything was working for the most part. I remember being able to attach my phone to my PC and being able to transfer files over to my phone. Recently that has been working out so well. I try to transfer files from my PC to my phone, such as music/videos/etc, but my phone doesn't show up. I can go to device manager and see my HTC One under other devices with the caution triangle, so basically my device is read to be connected to my PC but is lacking the drivers to use it. Like I said before, I have posted this problem on other forums before, and I have been sent the link to the drivers. I've installed HTC drivers, USB drivers, HTC One Sync, and so much more, but none of that has worked. All that happens is that my phone will connect to my PC, charge, be noticed by the PC but is completely unusable from PC to phone. On the phones side, it's 100% okay. No problems other than the simple nightly bugs, but I know it's the ROM version I am using. I reverted to the last known stable Cyanogen Mod, and the one previous to that. That hasn't fixed the problem as well. I'm running out of idea's and I'm just looking for some help. If you can help, rather then posting a link for drivers and thinking I'm retarded, please do so. I will appreciate it to the fullest. As for that, that is all I have to say. Please help, and all help is appreciated.

Ok,
I think the best thing we can to in this case is the classic troubleshooting.
Try different USB Cables, slots on your PC, DON'T connect it to a USB HUB (I think you already know that.. I just mentioned it to ensure that)
Make a backup and flash the stock Sense ROM
If you can get a connection to your PC .. Cyanogen causes this issue
That was to determine wheter it's your phone or your computer that causes this issue. Pretty basic.
Uninstall your drivers from the device manager interface
Uninstall everything that is related to your HTC One(HTCSync, maybe Kies or other programs like this, Every driver)
Now, make a registry clean to reinstall everything on a clean way
Use Wise Registry Cleaner
Proceed a computer reboot
Now, download the latest version of HTC Sync
Install it with every driver component.
Then uninstall HTC Sync WITHOUT the drivers
Plug in your phone and wait until other drivers are installed
If that's done, try if the connection works
