Power button on my OB fault during use about 8 month. Power button work when phone on charging but after a while phone discharging power button does not work again. It happend 3 week. This morning i get internal speker problem. I can't hear sound when make a call but work good when i use headset. The speker work with notification and music only when i make a call there not work. I know there are 2 speaker and for call i think use speaker on top.
I guess the problem cause by the top micro usb position it can damage the hardware on the top if phone had a long charging time. I charge quite often cause the battery drain so fast over 7 hour need to recharge. I often recharge while i'm sleep. I dont know the micro usb on top position related to this problem. Does someone had same experience?

Thx for your reply but i can't do that cause my phone still on warranty. I just want to know that the position charging on the top could damage hardware around there. I mean overcharging could damage some hardware near micro usb. If this damage cause by design probably i will sell this phone and get another. Really hardware problem very annoying me. I use latest ics rom v30b

Better take the phone to service center while you can.
Sure this day i will take to service center but i'm scared it will happend again after part changing cause by overchanging and warranty expired

So another case of power button/not waking problem. There are well known members whom I discussed this matter privately. And they too have this problem.
Something tells me, power management on ICS is messed up. Maybe LG wanted us to buy new phones. *chuckles
Maybe i will sell this phone after fixed and get another phone. First experience using LG lack software support and get 2 part fault. Never had this while using another android phone

The power button is a known problem with OB.I had it fail sometimes but it never had something to do with charging time or with micro card position. But always was a contact problem.A bit of wear and oxidation.Nothing that a little time and contact spray could not solve.I think that LGE messed more than just power managment but maybe it's worth trying something like cleaning the contacts before. Also the phone casing doesn't let you push the button all the way down.Without the casing is much easier.Another thing well done by LGE.

I mean micro usb port not micro sd that mean the port to charging. I call the technician and he said could be flexible cable power. Power adapter port, power button and speaker are in the same place, it can be flexible problem for the speaker. He said it can cause by overchanging, water or drop phone.
For me this is a design problem. Why LG put micro usb for charging at the top? I think optimus 2x not at the top.
I affraid this will happend again so prefer to sell phone before warranty end

My bad.You are probably right because you have both problems.I was mostly talking about power button and how I solved the problem because I didn't have a back plate pressure problem.Good for you that you are still in warranty.:fingers-crossed:

left my phone minutes ago at the service centre

I remember power button problem occur after upgrade to ICS v28c. This hardware fault could be from ICS Official? WTF!! Maybe power management not work properly i feel getting hotter when charging after ICS update.
Try to downgrade to GB after sevice over and lets see the problem occure again or not

I had write this power button issue on the v28 thread and all said that it's hardware fault not cause by ROM. But many user report the same problem after update ICS Official hope LG will fix this issue

I had to service center and get mainboard change. Technican said that this is not flexible cable problem. Because power button work when on charging. This IC fault so they change to new mainboard.
She ask me about the problem had after upgrade to ICS or not. I said happen after upgrade. She said it could be cause from ICS ROM. She told that the rom not stable yet for my country (indonesia). She know developer has been release 2 rom but still tester ROM. V30b not final for my country and could be make hardware fault. Final release will come the end of this month.

Like what I thought so. Now you understand why *leaks* are not supposed to be used by end users and blame LG why they blocked servers on RND software. :good:
And if they asked you before or after ICS, I think they know exactly there was a problem with ICS. It might as well be the reason for the *G-key* wake addition. It's a serious matter IMO and should not be taken lightly.

agree with you. I think they knew this power, maybe they knew the power management not good enough and must be something related about G-key wake. They not announce yet the ICS ROM Optimus Black officially, is that right? i dont know why they put ROM on their server. I ask to update to the latest version and she said this is the latest version gingerbread V20g on my country then she said there will be ICS in the end of the month. I Hope LG knew issue and will be fixed before release officially
I don't know.... for me the not working power button is from deep sleep waking up problems. Huexx sometimes had the same problem when he tweaked kernel too much.

Hello All,
My OB is bricked, i was flashing it with smartflash tool and installing official lg optimus gb image, but suddenly it was bricked. Now it is not starting, not even in download mode, no signal of power.
Any ideas?
It caused bcoz of loose cable connection.
While flashing any ROM, cable should have intact connectivity..

ok, but is there any other way?
In case of hard rest, as N00BY0815 said, only way is to take the phone to LG service center, but you have to take precaution regarding:
Take out the memory card and keep at ur home, in case you rooted the phone, otherwise they will know that U rooted the phone and reject the warranty.
i dont think rooting is against warranty everywhere does your pc recognises it when you plug it in while holding p

This is software error not hardware error. They can't charge you buying new free software.
If its hardware error, in this case, then the problem is not caused by the root and they can't reject warrenty (at least in Europe, I'm pretty sure in most places they'll get away with it.)
EDIT
@Nooby
If they can't access it through new bootloader they have to use JTAG equipement and then you can read and write to flash memory.

I have not much knowledge like xonar and N00BY0815,
Maybe they used JTAG or something ..bcoz at first they try to know whether it is rooted and non-rooted to get reject the phone here.
At that time, I contacted the most senior developers here in XDA, they also suggested that there is nothing to do if the phone is not turning on, & take it to service center...(the case is of LG P500)
That's strange. When I hard bricked mine, they kept my phone 3 weeks to finally say that it was the motherboard which died (I flashed a P990 rom by mistakes, it was for a friend but I forgot it in my sdcard).

11 days ago i installed cm10 nightly 11-14-12 after using the rom about 4 days, suddenly while charging my phone turn off and didn't turn on again. It can't enter sw upgrade. When i send it to the lg service center they said that it was a motherboard problem and need to replace it. It cause P9,000 (about $214). What the F**K! The brand new Optimus black here cause around P13,000 ($309). My warranty is already expired so i decided not to replace the motherboard and wait for the release of nexus 4 here in my country.
That time i'm using blackberry charger 5v output. Do you guys think that the hardbricked has also something related to the charger?
Wife and I got a pair of Vivids in June of 2012, mine is rooted, has CM10 on it, her's is 100% bone stock.
Since this morning, it will not boot. When you go to turn it on, the screen's backlight comes on for 2-3 seconds, then off for a second, and a quick blink of the backlight and nothing. Then it starts a quick (.25-.50 second long) vibrate every 19 seconds. I've tried the battery from mine, same deal.
I'm not eligible for upgrade until June 2014, so if anyone has an ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix it, I'd greatly appreciate it.
If anything, I'd like to be able to get the data off it... pics and videos... for some reason she had no SD card in here and dropbox filled up back in April. Wish she'd told me that happened.
Thanks!
Apparently Vivid charging ports are fragile. Possible that hers has a short? Broken piece lodged in there causing the power to be wonky? I'd take a look with a good magnifying glass. Replacement part on eBay for about $6 if it is broken.

I'll see what I can find out. The kids have a couple of those toy microscope things, just need to get a battery so the light will work.
I plugged it into the computer without the battery and Windows wanted to install some driver qhsusb_dload? but googling that makes me think the phone is bricked in some way, which is odd because I never messed with hers.

Is there a way to definitively determine this? I'd hate to pay someone for this, just to find out it wasn't the problem.
Also, will this retain the data on the phone? I'm really aggravated at myself for not realizing there wasn't a MicroSD card in there, and more aggravated at my wife for not noticing the "Hey dropbox is full" notifications on the phone since APRIL. She's aggravated because all the pics and the video of the kids since April could potentially be gone. Good times for all.
Thanks!

I would send it for JTAG service. Especially if it is still showing some signs of life. Look on EBAY for jtag servive by nto1566. $25 if he can fix it. Money refunded if he can't. All you are out is postage.

Boot on recovery?
Hello friend!
I want to ask if you tried to charge the phone until green LED in upper left corner?, Then if you tried to put it into boot mode by pressing volume down and then press on? if you can load into boot mode, which is a white screen, you can scroll with the volume key down to "Factory Reset" and pressing the button on. Maybe the phone is restarted but surely erase all data are stored.
If you decide to JATG, the same will happen
Decisions, I hope you serve what I recommend, if so please let me know in the post, OK
If you plug it in to charge it either does nothing, or the orange "charging" light will come on for a few seconds and go out.

Hey everyone
So, I have a bit of a problem... My HTC One keeps destroying every charger cable I'm using, sooner or later. I've tried about 5 or 6 different chargers, including 3 original chargers, and as you might understand this is getting pretty expensive (especially as original chargers are priced around 20.- in Switzerland).
I'm gonna spare you the details, but there are a few things that might be interesting to anyone who wants to help.
The progress is always the same: First, the phone is charging only when sth. is weighing the connector down (this is something many of my HTC One-owning friends are complaining about, too). Next, the phone will charge only when the cable is bent behind the back of the phone. This will work for some time, until the phone refuses to charge when plugged into the wall and can only be charged by trickle charging it from a USB port (which is what I'm currently doing). Here, the cycle is repeated, only that this time the cable dies entirely.
Curiously enough, this happens with every charger and, as it seems, the deterioration quickens with each new cable.
Also, what usually happens pretty quickly is that the connector doesn't lock into place anymore. I have cleaned the port multiple times following instructions from Youtube videos, but to no avail.
Since my phone is rooted, I unfortunately can't just go to my provider and ask them for a new phone. They'll probably blame it on the software or whatever... Also, I recently dropped my phone and it left a few scratches on the top, which would void my warranty even if the rooting wouldn't already have done so. Just my luck, I suppose...
Hopefully anybody has a similar problem or a suggestion. Lemme know if you do!

Use this Guide to return to Stock and do a warranty replacement
It looks like you have 2 problems. The first one is the microusb port has been damaged. This has happened to me on another phone and it would explain why the wire is sliding out. For this reason, you might consider replacing it under warranty. The second problem seems to be tension in the charging wire. I do not know how you have charging setup, but I am guessing that the outlet is far away and you are stretching the cable to make it to the phone. This could cause the wire to have discontinuity (why you have to bend it to short the discontinuity and resume charging) and the microusb port to get damaged. I would recommend getting a longer wire if this is the case.

I bought it at the Orange store in Winti, but if you get any helpful advice or in this case even a new device always depends on the clerk...
Also, I'm kinda worried how they would react to the fact that I noticed the issue already months ago.
Anyway. I'll wait until my current cable breaks down, too. Perhaps in the meantime somebody else has an idea

they won't notice it but you need some good argument's that this issue isn't caused by software... first go back 100% stock using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
and then test if your phone still eats these cables..., return it to the shop...
use these arguments to convince them if they don't wanna replace it:
I hope you can do something with these informations and if they want to charge you - or even to be prepared - I have a few examples how you can convince HTC that this issue is not caused by you and that this is covered by warranty.

Try to give them your perspective!
This is almost everything. Be rethoric(Ask questions so that they must answer Yes! Ask questions that already include the answer) For example, Isn't it ridiculus and totally against every logic thinking that you say a unlocked bootloader is the cause of a sunk powerbutton?
As long as they are humans, they have to say, yes... this is the only answer... otherwise they would be ridiculus.

Hello all,
Have this baby since Dec. 2013 when I swapped it from a broken one.
Has been running since, no problems, no root, no unlock, all well.
Switched it to power off before a trip and wanted to power back on in airplane, no nothing, silence.
Long press, vol down + power, up + power, no change at all. Charging shows keyboard is full, no light on tablet. Connection to PC also nada.
Any ideas?

Well I'll be damned. Brought it to Asus. First off they told me that the tablet purchased in Holland does not have warranty in Russia, so I am to pay myself. I paid for a diagnose, so at least they tell me what's wrong. The result is, they told me the screen is completely to be renewed. My disagreement with this is simple. The screen goes dead and also no light is showing the charging status? The screen is dead but the device works, no way, then I should feel a vibration on power-on, because I power it down. The screen is dead and why does the HDMI not give output either?
So my question to You guys here, is this really possible ?
I disagree to pay 200 Euro's for a device still in warranty for a display repair, so I will have it returned to Holland and do warranty there, but I am really pissed with this.
AND, what a beaty to keep the nicely fitting TF700T in my hands again, it does not have the crazy connection between keyboard and tablet, this was SOOO much better.

TF701 doesn't have vibration.....
Hello Darren,
not only do I seem do mix up my devices, I also do not seem to control them all, I was sure I reacted to this already. Yet, in Tapatalk I see your message is the last.
Sorry for mixing them up, it must be my HTC One which is 'waking me up' with a vibrate instead.
Yesterday I received my TF701T back from the local Asus Premium Service and I 'am not too impressed'.
To give You an idea of my bad feeling:
I gave a device which did not give any reaction at all, to whatever I do.
1)I was returned a device which shows the charging orange led, they must have changed something.
2)the charging light does not turn off, even after a complete night charging
3)touching the power button now turns on the display backlight, it can easily be noticed it bad light, it certainly did not do that before (I would have known I have a display problem).
-There are some scratches on the devices back which were not there before. Nothing to be angry about, but not made by me. The front is full of fingerprints, also certainly not how I gave it to them.
So, did I get something else back? I certainly have that feeling, but will probably never be able to show this. Do I judge this 'Premium Service', certainly not. I would have expected better care and an explanation on the changes.
The diagnose just says 'LCD Module needs to be exchanged'. My question as to 'why' was not answered, we do not do such diagnose.
My question 'if this would have been warranty, would it have been a Russian purchased device' was answered, 100% for sure. But as I have purchased it in Holland they are forced to deny the warranty. I would have to pay 213 Euro next to the 20 Euro I already paid for the diagnose. I decided to return the device to Holland for warranty repair instead. A new device including the Eng/Rus keyboard would be just double the price of the repair and makes it quite unrealistic to me.
Next to explaining this whole situation and providing copies of the documents given by Asus Premium Service here, when I give it away in Holland, anything else I should do?, other proposals ?

waste of time if you ask me. i sent mine twice now, just got it back and now the sd card inthe dock doesn`t work immediately noticed.
It just mounts un mounts over and over formatted the sd and tested other devices \. so hey failed to repair.
I have now demanded a new one but asus still say only repair..
well i have owned the device for 5 months and they have had it for 3 month of that time......
not to mention they didn`t fix the issues it already had. even though claiming they replaced the board.
and i can see the keyboard has marks along the side as if the repairer couldn`t open it and damaged the plastic seals.
so i have escalated this and refused to repair a third time. i said send me a new one and i will send you my faulty one. otherwise i go to the fair trade for a complaint here.
Also several people on the forum have tricked themselves into believing this tablet is now great and no issues because they are using software better than the poorly delivered asus version.
yet when i read over their posts from the return from repair at asus they stated it still disconnects on occasions.
Well i`m sorry for being negative but while yes the device does have great specs and looks nice and should have been a top market seller, ASUS delivery of build quality destroyed any chance of that.
The lack of any dev except from 2 people shows just how poor this device is. compared to the tf700 which was terrible in io and had tons of people complaining yet it still received alot of development comparative to this device.
best of luck on your warranty adventures. lets hope Holland has more competent repairers than most other countries.

Again and again, people never get tired..... I am using stock, with no problem... and I do not have to say it everytime someone has a problem. For the 10000000000000000000 time, unlike those who have a problem, those who dont will not post!!!! Regarding the development.. it is called devlopment... what are you lookinf for to develop? And if you think that developing is lacking because of the problems the tablet has, have a look on the samsung note2014... except if you think it has too, problems!

+1
Thanks guys for your opinions.
I have had the device back now for 2-3 days and it is charging continuously, the orange light never changes to green.
The changes of the device after the diagnose are so noticable that I am just wondering:
-did I get my device back or another one?
-did they replace my display for a broken one?
-did they remove or exchange the battery while they had it open?
As the device has no serial on the outside any of the above are possible.
Does any of You have an email from Asus where I could inform about what happened, before the device is even send to Holland again.
Edit: Even one more difference. If I connect it through USB with my PC and use Volume-Down + Power to switch it one, the PC is recognizing, installing a driver and comes back with ASUS Android Bootloader Interface (Device driver software installed successfully)
For the pro's, is there any way I could get to 'talk to the device' and see its content?
Over the weekend I am to try to connect through HDMI if I can see inside.

Ruud

Yay! Sony has repaired it.
A few weeks ago, my retailer sent back my device. Their report said that the front adhesive was loose hence there was water damage.
Thankfully, it was covered under NZ warranty and they completely replaced my z3. Yay! The rest is history.
Thank you to everyone who helped. I appreciate it.
Old post.
TL;DR: Phone won't boot or respond. When the phone is plugged in, the device's notification light flashes red. Tried all the button combinations, no response.
This happened yesterday. Searched the device forums and couldn't find any solutions so posted here.
When the phone is plugged into a power source, it the notification LED flashes just over once a second.
Tried using different USB cables, chargers, computers - no difference.
Tried all the button combinations, nothing happened. I did press the yellow "off" button by the Sim card slot and then it vibrated 3 times. Nothing happened afterwards and I couldn't repeat this.
One weird thing I did notice is when the USB cable is half plugged into the charger/laptop the phone, the led stays on longer. Maybe 5, 10 seconds. The time the LED is off is still the same. So maybe it's somesort of lose connection?
It doesn't charge via USB. I haven't tried the magnetic dock connection since I don't have one. Anyone know if it would be worth to DIY one to make sure?
Yes, the phone has been fully submerged in water, but I only did that when I got it last month. It hasn't been intentionally submerged since then. The only software related issue I had was that occasionally the phone's screen wouldn't turn on for a long time. I assumed this was software related and it was fixed when I uninstalled Microsoft's Next Launcher.
I've had this phone for over a month and it. Just returned from the city which I bought the phone and I don't want to return it for warranty unless I absolutely have to. The bootloader is locked and the device has not been rooted.
NZ has a great "warranty" law (Consumers Guarantees Act) which pretty much means if the device doesn't last as long as it's meant to or doesn't work as advertised, you have the right to a refund, replacement or repair at not cost to the user - so at least I have the law on my side.
Any response will be greatly appreciated - that "thanks" button will most definitely be clicked.

That - that would make me return the phone right away. If it's hardware related I wouldn't take any chances. Maybe you can even get them to give you a cover/case for the trouble

Yeah, but then it takes like a month for it to get mailed to the "official repairs", looked at etc. like most warranty claims. I'd rather get it fixed now rather than wait.
But as a plan B, I think we have it pretty good here!
Buy one of those super cheap magnetic chargers and see if it charges/turns on.
But Id also rather advise you to claim warranty.
This is no normal behavior and if you really test the USB Port as defective with magnetic charging being fine you would still want to claim warranty since the USB connection is crucial for a lot of useful things.

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't ship many electronic items here so I can't get the magnetic charging device.
I think after exhausting every option available to me, now is a good time to claim warranty.
Thanks for your response.
how could this happen?you drop it into water?

Take a known good USB cable and wall charger (must be wall - not computer) and plug it in and walk away for at least 2 hours. Don't touch, breath, look, or sniff at it. Then go back and see if you can power it on. If that fails you can try to restore it with the Sony tool or the flash tool but its likely done.

Of course, I dropped it in water! Several times, on purpose with no adverse effects. It's IP6X certified .
But that was when I first got the phone. It hasn't been intentionally submerged since then. All the ports were always sealed tight and all. I'm still really confused about what's happening to my device.

I tried this overnight, however, it didn't work.
The computer - any computer - doesn't recognise the device. It doesn't show up in device manager either.
Thanks for your input!
