Stay away from everything not explicitly listed for the at&t model.
They differ in hardware from the p7310 (wifi) & p7300 (3g) models

wifi tethering on official firmware

Hi,
My wife needs wifi tethering on her Galaxy S but she can't use an unofficial ICS rom because she also needs the official Samsung dialer with video call feature.
Is there an official ROM (most recent value pack ?) which supports wifi tethering ?
Now there is JVU rom on the phone.
What is the shortest path for a wifi tethering rom with official dialer / framework ?

Use xwjw5. Tethering is available in this one. As in many other earlier stock roms. For quick ON/OFF feature you can use some Tethering widgets available in Market.

[GENERAL] SGM 2 S6500 / S6500D General Info / FAQ / Q&A

Last update / revision - 20th Jan. 2013 . If this date is older than a week , it means the thread may be outdated .
Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 ( S6500 / S6500D ) General Info / FAQ / Q&A / General Discussion Thread
Since the Mini 2 users have exploded all over the forum after Squadzone's topic was closed , I figured we could use a general thread where we could stack up all the info we have so far , as well as keep it updated with the new things that will come in the future .
Note that I will not be adding releases that have not been verified by other users . You will only find here WORKING stuff that has been TESTED by other users .
General Info
Phone specs :
CPU : Qualcom MSM7227A Snapdragon S1 (ARMv7)
RAM : 512MB
Internal Storage : 4GB
1 GB reserved for the ROM
1 GB reserved for the app system data
2 GB available to the user
3.3" Display , HVGA resolution (320x480)

Releases and links
What we have so far for this device is :
NEW !!! Network unlock : click!
Custom CWM , Kernel and Root for this device by Squadzone : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768622
// kernel link is dead , here's the link for the overclock kernel ONLY (not the universal one) : http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/63850072/file.html
Alternative rooting methods - SOME USERS SAY THAT BY USING mb-14's METHOD HERE ONLY TO ROOT YOUR PHONE , THE BIN COUNTER WILL NOT RISE , SO IF YOU ONLY WANT ROOT ON YOUR PHONE , TRY THIS , BUT BEWARE THAT IT DIDN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE AND FOR SOME THE BIN COUNTER HAS STILL MODIFIED!

Peter's ROM (S6500 / S6500D)
Rhan's ROM (S6500D)
Regina ROM (S6500D)

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 6500 and 6500D ?
S6500 has NFC , S6500D doesn't .
Is there an ETA for when we will have ICS / JB on our device ?
Samsung has announced that they will roll out an update to JB sometime in the future . Unfortunately , it is still uncertain if that will actually happen .
As for custom roms , there are currently some developers trying to port ICS / JB (CM 9 and 10) on Mini 2 but unfortunately it is quite hard because they do not have the device . If you want to help them , be sure to check the forum and if they need anything from a Mini 2 owner , please try to help them , as it will speed up the process of porting ICS / JB .
What Odin version do you recommend to use for flashing ?
Look in the attachments . I have used this one personally and it works like a charm .
I have another CWM version on my phone , and when I flashed a new firmware / did a factory reset , the phone bootloops into recovery mode . What do I do ?
Re-flash the exact same CWM that is now bootlooping . I had this problem twice and it fixed it for me both of the times . You could also try reflashing a new one , but I have no idea if it will fully work or if it will damage your phone in any way . Quick tip : After you managed to exit the bootloop and your phone works okay , reflash the newest CWM (listed above) so you won't have to deal with this problem in the future .
I have flashed a firmware with Odin but when I turn on the phone normally , it says there was a problem installing the firmware and I should connect it to Kies for emergency firmware recovery . However , Kies doesn't see my device . What do I do ?
Forget about Kies . Boot the phone into download mode and reflash it with Odin . If the problem still persists , try reflashing another one . Also , make sure you have "Repartition" unchecked in Odin !
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU ARE FLASHING A COMPATIBLE FIRMWARE FOR YOUR PHONE . It is recommended that you flash a firmware that is dedicated to your region , model (6500 / 6500D) and carrier (if we are talking about official firmwares) .
What would you recommend to use and not to use with my Mini 2 ?
To use :
Squadzone's CWM , Root and OC Kernel only (and those if you REALLY want to . It's always the best to keep your phone clean , but if you wanna go into modding , it's best to only use these as they are quite stable) .
GO Launcher (for extra style) . Mini 2 can swallow it just fine and it gives a stylish look . Here's a sample (one of my old screens) : http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg85...ename=55512243761373961697410.jpg&res=landing
DirectoryBind : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262 . This one is very useful and powerful if you want to link game data from your external SD card . It basically makes the phone see external SD folders inside the internal SD (also known as mounting) . My advice is that you link the sdcard/Android to the sdcard/external_sd/Android folder , and if you have Gameloft games , link sdcard/gameloft/games to external_sd/gameloft/games too .
Not to use :
Swapper 2 (along with Squadzone's universal kernel) - it will brick your device and you won't be able to go into download / recovery mode .
ROM Manager - it will possibly brick your device as well .
General Discussion - what to talk about here and what not to
You can post anything Mini 2 related in this topic . Wether you are having a problem with your device , if you released anything , if you found a fix or a trick for something , if you want to make any guide , anything at all . However , please keep development-related posts in the development section linked above .
Hope you've found all the info in here useful . As I said , I will keep the post updated with the latest info and releases .
Again if you have any problem with your Mini 2 , don't hesitate to ask . I have pretty much fricked up my Mini 2 in almost every possible way , so it's likely that I have a fix for it xD
Have a nice day!
I want to buy this phone or sony live with walkman(ics 4) how do you know that mini 2 will have ics update?

Hmm , wierd , many people were saying that we will be getting an ICS update . That's too bad .
Fixed the first post .

We appreciate the chance to clarify to you.
Hence, we do understand the dissatisfaction you are having with the support on the said models. However, please be advised that updating this models to a higher version like ICS 4 or the Jellybean will not do good on the device as the device specification (hardware wise) are not opt to work with the specification required by ICS 4 or Jellybean operating systems.
As we know, Galaxy Mini 2 is provided with Gingerbread 2.3.6 and although we understand you want an ICS 4 update or higher, it is not possible to provide due to hardware limitation.
Thank you.

Well we still have the option of a custom ROM ... that's still compatible enough . It's not like Mini 2 is among the weakest android phones out there . Mini 1 supports CM 10 ffs xD
The thing is we will have to wait until a developer will be able to port it . It seems Samsung didn't send it on the market in too many countries , and that's a problem because that makes it harder for a dev to get their hands on one .
All we can do right now is wait , and if anyone decides to start porting ICS / JB ROMs for our device , try to offer them as much support as we can .
TheWhisp said he might try to make something for SGM2, after he settle hes actual work with SGM.
come on ics 4 sgm2

You can use Peter's Rom (look in my signature) if you want , but if it's for your mother , I guess it's better to stick to the stock rom because it's more stable .
where do i get the OverClocked kernel? could download the file???

Works well for me . You can try flashing Squadzone's CWM , the rooting it and then installing the OC kernel and overclock it to 1.1 GHz . That should make it run faster (links for everything in my signature) .

There is something that should be known by SGM2 users... Squadzone specified on his root method that the custom binary counter will be modified and then a yellow triangle will appear when the phone boots. Whats interesting is that the mb-14 method is not modifying the counter and the triangle will not appear if you choose to root the phone with his method. This way you can hope to not loose the warranty and be able to install back the stock firmware through Odin without modifying the number of custom bin counter.
mb-14's CWM is showing that you have a S7500 but it doesn't matter because its working fine, at least for some basic root functions. I used mb's method only for basics and then I wanted to try the Regina ROM (with modified kernel and BLN support) which recommended the squadzone's CWM and just after I changed the root method I saw whats about the triangle and the counter.
Long story short, if there is someone who wants to root his phone only for root access and nothing more (like overclocking or BLN control), he could use mb-14 method which doesn't affect the custom binary counter even when you install back the stock ROM.
im just curios about why still many development going on for mini but not mini2?
in term of spec mini2 is way higher but getting less user

Well, I don't know if I did something wrong but I have "2" in custom bin counter when I flashed mb-14's CWM the 2 times I had (I faced a CWM bootloop so I had to flash it again). I downloaded and flashed this one: http://www.mediafire.com/?1f3vqo44jl34tcd. Well, it doesn't matter! I have root in my phone (it was what I needed) and I won't flash again until I see CM available in my phone (I miss it so badly...)
Thank you very much for your info! Have a great day!

[Q] Android Newbie Here , Need Help for Galaxy Note

hi peeps , i would really appreciate it if somebody can help me navigate through the waters with my Android Samsung Galaxy Note ..i've got a couple of questions that i need answers to , umm , here they are :
1. when one roots his phone , given that he has a stock Samsung Ice Cream Sandwhich OS , does he have to do " something " first before he upgrades to a stock Samsung OS again in the future ... i mean wouldn't it brick his phone when he tries to upgrade via OTA just because his phone is rooted ?
2. when one roots his phone long AFTER he has already upgraded his OS to a stock Samsung ICS ... will he lose his SMS , Contacts , apps , Bookmarks , Calendar , etc AFTER rooting his phone ? ...
3. to follow , does rooting one's phone have an impact on apps installed on the phone .. i mean would an app suddenly not work because of the rooting done ?
4. are there stock Samsung Ice Cream Sandwhich 4.0.4 for Galaxy Note that doesn't have the pop up play feature ?
5. what is the difference between these terms ( which can be found under the " About Phone " Settings : Baseband Version , Kernel Version , Build Number ... umm .. which is more important when it comes to identifying the type of update that you have ( umm , i mean whether the update that you have is one that is intended for Europe , Asia Pacific , etc )
okay , that 's it ... hope that you guys can shed some info on these ... thank you very much for your time and have a great day ahead . cheers

1. Once rooted, the likelihood of being able to upgrade via ota or Kies is slim. The update would probably fail and can lead to brick symptoms if on dangerous kernel. It's much safer to upgrade/reflash using pc odin imho.
2. Rooting does not require a factory reset or data reset. You won't affect your installed apps and data.
3. Rooting has no impact on installed apps. Just offers administrator privileges so you can access and write/delete more.
4. AFAIK, it's only lrq and lrt that have pop up play.
5. Baseband version = modem which governs the data connections and call functions
Kernel version = kernel which is the kernel, search for Linux kernel on Wikipedia if you want a breakdown.
Build number = rom version which is the firmware or operating system version.
People mainly refer to kernel versions, such as lrq (ics) or kka (gingerbread). There are three letters preceding the kernel version such as xeu (open europe) or Dbt (germany). This is called the csc which stands for country sales code. Some such as open europe will have multiple csc' s contained within and once flashed you can change csc to whichever you require.
Have a look at Dr ketans thread in the stickies of Android development with all stock roms, look through them all and you'll start to get a feel for what I mean.
Hope this makes sense

Android Newbie Here , Need Help with my Galaxy Note
oh , thanks for the reply sir ... just a follow up though ...
1. so there are stock roms that indeed doesn't have the pop up play feature , is that correct ... umm , then why is it that Samsung advertises the 4.0.4 as having a pop up play feature ? ... just don't understand why Samsung would advertise it as such ..
2. at least now i already get that people refer to the kernel version when they say lrq , hehe ... such a newbie i know
3. sir , if i were to backup my SMS's on my Galaxy Note using SMS Backup and Restore .. in the future when i buy a Samsung Galaxy S3 ... can i use the SMS Backup and Restore app and restore the SMS's from the Galaxy Note to the Galaxy S3 ... is that possible or restoring is just limited to the phone which you originally made the SMS's with , so in this case , restore only on Galaxy Note ..
4. can you kindly share me a list of apps that you use for backing up data ( SMS , Contacts , Browser Bookmarks , Calendar ) ... especially Bookmarks and Calendar because as of now .. i still don't have apps to back those two up
5. sir , am i right when i say that rooting is different from flashing a safe kernel on your phone .. which means that umm, sure you can have a phone that is rooted but still don't have a safe kernel when you are on the stock ICS 4.0.4 for Galaxy Note ..
6. if i change to a safe kernel ( because now , i still am on the stock ICS 4.0.4 Galaxy Note ) , will i lose my SMS's , Contacts , apps , etc. ?
7. if i don't factory reset while still on the stock kernel on the ICS 4.0.4 ... are there still circumstances wherein the emmc bug will brick my Galaxy Note ? .. or is it safe to say that as long as i don't Factory Reset , i am okay even though i don't plan to change the stock kernel anymore
that's it , thank you very very much for your time sir and thank you also for your previous response .. really really appreciate it . more power ..
have a great ahead !

1. samsung never advertised the popup play during initial launch of note. It was put since the update.
2. lr9 could also refer to the rom build like ddlr9
3. yes, sms backup and restore can do that for u
4. best when rooted is titanium backup. unrooted apps I guess u need to search on playstore
5. yes, but the new kernels like hydracore and philz give u root automatically when flashed.
6. nothing happens when u change the kernel
7. yes, sometimes moving huge data in / out of the internal storage can also result in a brick. tho its not kernel related. for now if u don't do a reset of any kind u safe.

[Q] 4g no more working but H+ and E is working

Hi xda-community maybe you guys can help me with my S3 LTE. Its the german one so the gt-9105 and I'm using T-Mobile.
Everything worked great all the time with your roms here but since 3 days after updating to the newer 4.1.2 roms my LTE Internet is no more working. H+ and E works fine and it also Shows the lte Signal straight when its available but it Shows no more 4g Icon and its also not connecting to the Internet. so i have to force wcdma all the time and that sucks on an lte phone.
What is the Problem or did I something wrong? Allready tried different 4.1.2 roms and different flashable basebands but didnt work.
What can i do to get it working on that roms.
Use the correct rom then.
Every Rom in the Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Android Development section is correct isnt it? Until now every one worked expect the 4.1.2 roms -.-
Since Samsung have yet to release a firmware with 4.1.2 I would say you are using an incorrect one. Otherwise complain to the firmware maker.

[Digest] Dualboots on Samsung Galaxy flagships

This abstract of dualboot on Samsung galaxy flagships
Some years ago , i success to install dualboot on sg S2 S3 S4 :
On i9100 & i9300 we use siyah &fast dormancy , dorimanX kernels linkshttps://www.google.com/url?q=http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/kernel-dorimanx-lp-5-x-x-t3145879&sa=U&ved=0CAcQFjABahUKEwir3s6T-ezHAhWCfxoKHfgoCoI&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNEGDfwOHzBVssfuuE_DMfDen3BE9A
It 's very clear at reboot we have choice of 2 roms one is primary other is secondary
(Like Dualboots on pcs : Linux and Windows )
On i9500 i 9505 g900x
It's little different there are both systems on primary we must install 2nd rom on primary rom
we use patchers & utilities for installing kernel and recovery on primary & secondary roms some apks must installed twice ( on 1st and 2nd rom )links
Sgs5 link http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/dual-boot-t2841957
sgs6 edge linkhttps://www.google.com/url?q=http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/themes-apps/app-dual-boot-patcher-dualboot-s6-edge-t3114421&sa=U&ved=0CBMQFjAGahUKEwjbprnZ9uzHAhVM0hoKHetEArE&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGjCm5nSf8Qo0yFXU0ixukVX0uGEA
I dont remember if i ve realised that on sgs1 : in my hands i ve i9000 9001 9003 perhaps on last modele SL i9003
if somebody have installed dualboots on other devices
Thanks alot for Sharing , sowing (lol ) & displaying ( like me haha ) your huge and valuable knowledge ( yes you have ).........
Btw , what about memory ( free space on sdcard & ram )management on Dualboots ?
I know dualboots on phones go out of style ......
Because nowadays customs roms & firmwares are not buggy like before
But it's a good option of emergency solution :
Like on work's time , we can reboot on secondary systeme speedly use phone normally.
After that when we have free time we repair primary system it's good is'nt it.
Greeting all !
