Want to root my Samsung Galaxy s3 4G confused - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hello all,
I have read many posts about rooting the phone above but am confused.
All i want to do is root the phone and keep the original rom.
If i root it then update to 4.1.2 jellybean when its released for my phone do i have to root it again?
I really need to know step by step the process so i dont mess it up.
Firstly i beleive i need to backup my iemi is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915 the correct procedure?
I then save that file it generates incase i need to restore is this correct?
I was then going to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 but am confused where it says "Flash an Insecure Kernel before using Samsung Quick Root".
Where do i find an insecure kernal for the above phone?
I then read about ClockworkMod Recovery what does this do and should i use it?
Can someone please help me step by step as im really new to Android.
Sorry for so many questions but coming from years having an iphone to Android its like wow.
Cheers and thanks in advance.

Absolutely everything you need to know is in there.
I would only use methods that are intended for i9305.

Obagleyfreer i read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32235061&postcount=1 and unsure of part 13.
I want to root but just keep the standard rom that the phone came with.
Also if i update to 4.1.2 jellybean do i need to backup and root again?

You just need to flash the zip that's linked in part 13 to get root access.
You do this in CWM recovery.

Hi
Seems like you ar pretty novice to this.
If you root you cant update to latest from Settings -》About -》 Update. Root makes it imposible that way.
Instead you have to flash the latest rom from www.sammobile.com using Odin (windows) and rootvit again.
Or you wait till some one kind pre roots the rom and makes it flashable through Clockworkmod (easiest way)
All the strange words you have to look up your self.

Ok i check www.sammobile.com and i dont see a version of 4.1.2 jellybean for my phone.
Will the international versions of 4.1.2 work on my phone?
Will they have bloatware or carrier logos?
When i flash a rom do i have to flash the modem as well?
Can i just flash rom over rom or should i clean the cache first?

Its not released yet for every country. I dont find it for sweden either.
And you can expect the same thing from updated rom as the rom you are on now.
The roms from sammobile is only for your country becaus it contains the proper modem and apn info for your country and carrier.
As I said before best way to get a rooted and neat rom is letting the experts in xda compile a version that is flashable through cwm.
Look in the description if modem is included.

Which stock ROM to use?

Hi guys,
So this is my first android phone. I bought it in Shanghai, so it comes with bunch of chinese crapware preinstalled which is really annoying.
After doing some research, it appears that the only way for me to get rid of that is to root the phone (which I've never done before).
I have two goals in mind:
1) being able to delete all the crapware that came preinstalled with the phone
2) being able to install "market enabler" so that I can download "real" apps
I have downloaded Dr. Ketan's guide on how to root the SGN.
My phone's info:
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZSLA2
Baseband version: N7000XXLA4
So, from the guide it appears that I dont have a direct rootable ROM, and I need to flash (is that what its called?) it with Odin.
Now, I have downloaded the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip" file. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am guessing that this file is the "rooted factory ROM"...
However, later I came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 with bunch of [stock ROMs].
My goal is to have "normal/factory/oem/stock/whatever you call it" ROM, with SuperUser access aka root.
So, the question is - should I stick with the guide and use "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip" ROM or should I flash it with one of the ROMs from the [stock roms] thread?
Cheers!

You can do either
KJ1_factoryfs if pre rooted ROM, you won't need to root it after downgrading
While if you downgrade any rootable ROM from stock ROM thread you have mentioned, you have to root it.

BTW,
do I need to install CWM? I am not planning on installing other ROMs or anything like that... just want to wait for the official release of ICS, that's all.
Not compulsory.
You can also purchase mobile odin pro, if you want to update rom to latest version.
Or u can use as it is. But kj1 or any older rom are not tuned as newer one, may experience battery drainage, leg etc, but if u r satisfied, thn you can keep it till ics.

firmware backup

Hi,
First of all here are my specs...
S5830
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: S5830XWKPA
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL561786
[email protected]#1
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKPY
I want to flash this rom from sammobile which I beleive should work with my phone
Model Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC
GT-S5830 United Kingdom / Ireland 2011 September Android 2.3.6 S5830XWKPY S5830XEUKP1
but before I do I would like to backup my existing rom in the same format as this rom so I can flash through odin.
I found this page on the wiki for backing up your rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/How_to_backup_Original_ROM but its not in the same format as the downloadable roms. Can I flash this through odin? or how can I backup my rom like the downloads from sammobile?
I just want a backup so I have something to fall back on should I need to.
Thanks
First of all. The rom you are trying flash is very old. New firmwares are more stable. Try a rom which was released this year. I wonder why you want to backup the original rom, its old. Anyway, just backup stuff using cwm, search for your current firmware of sammobile and download it. If you want to return back to original firmware, flash the firmware via odin and restorethe cwm backup.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
There is no official rom higher than 2.3.6 for this phone, I'm guna flash cyanogenmod at some point when I get a bit more time but for the time being I just wanted to flash official 2.3.6. Am I wrong in thinking the CWM needs a rooted phone to work? or will this feature run on unrooted phones?
thanks
Try the Spanish Rom XWKTQ.. And i'm sure you'll love it.. Almost Bug free and really fast..

CWM needs a rooted phone.
About the firmware. Yes the highest android version is 2.3.6, but new firmwares have more features and more stable. Flash XWKTQ.

If your phone is operator specific then flashing rom from different countries might cause problems. If your phone is unlocked and you can use it with any operator then no problem. You can flash any rom.
reply
ah ok, mine is on o2 uk but it was bought from phones4u so it should already be unlocked, so thats good to know. There doesnt seem to be any o2 branding on the phone so i'll have a play when I get sum spare.
cheers
But still, just try using a sim from some other operator and see if it works. If it doesnt, your phone is operator specific.
yeah, will do,
thanks

[Q] Problems while downgrading CM10.1 to Stock Gingerbread

Hello,
I want to downgrade my phone from CM10.1 on an original Gingerbread ROM. First I have flashed a 2.3.4 version of DarkyRom. Now I want to have a stock firmware for my Galaxy.
All files that I could find were damaged. (Unpacked with 7ZIP and WinRAR). Then I found a T-Mobile branded version 2.3.6, but I hung permanently fixed in Bootloop.
What version can you recommend me and can you give me a three-part firmware?
Thank you very much
greeting
Julian

Hey,
Just checking, did you flash in a file called dbsdata.rfs.tar? That fille is essential when downgrading from CM9/CM10/10.1 because of different data partitions and so on. If you don't flash it in the phone ends up in a bootloop...
Try flash in dbsdata.rfs.tar (you can get it from so many places) then flash it in via Odin, then report back
Hope I helped

[Q] If update official update from different country will baseband change?

Hello guys, i will explain the story in order, sorry for my bad Grammar.
first i have the official GTI9070 but i forgot the baseband (GB)
then i accept software update that appear in notification bar, my baseband become I9070DXLK2 (GB)
and i see there's CM11 out that can make kit kat running in I9070.
but it requires root to install CMW / TWRP..
so hard to find root zip for DXLK2, and then i found one full ROM rooted then flash it with odin.
my baseband still I9070 (GB) but rooted (binary counter++)
after that i flash TWRP with odin too.
then i try flashing CM11 with TWRP.
it success, but no mobile network.
i search at this forum and someone say "no mobile network happen because flashing from GB (2.3.x) directly to KK (4.4.x)"
he said first update from GB to official samsung JB.
the problem, there's no official samsung JB update for my country/region (DXLK2)
my question, if i flash the official samsung JB update from other region.. let say it italy.. will my baseband change?
if it changed, what's the problem and whats the negative impact? what should i do better?
thx in advance.
PS: my device is Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (Indonesian)

You don't have any negative impact if you flash any stock JB firmware, only with your warranty if you still have one.
Please, follow this guide from point A (JELLYBEANIZATION): [GUIDE] From stock GB to Custom JB (Noob-friendly)
After you updgraded to JB, ask/read some tutorials linked here: [{INDEX of GUIDES/TUTORIALS}] Galaxy S Advance [GT-I9070].
Be sure when you proceed to do something OR ASK before, NOT AFTER you doing something wrong.

thank you for the response.
i'll tell the result later after i can download it, at my office the download link show 404 Not Found (maybe blocked)
Search JB on www.samsung-updates.com.

Or maybe removed. Try on samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com
In Canada, have XXLK2 (Africa?). Want JB, use UK version?
I bought my unlocked I9070 almost 2 years ago and am thinking about upgrading to Android 4.1.2 (JB).
On samsung-updates there appear to be lots of JB versions for different regions.
Can I just select the one for Britain (XXLQE)? Is there anything I need to check re: compatibility?

Yes you can flash any stock firmware for I9070. Be sure you don't flash firmware for I9070P.

Flashing worked...once I found a .zip file

I had a lot of trouble trying to get the samsung-updates.com download to work (used the free one, which either didn't start most of the time or died during download). Eventually, I took the filename (for Britain) and Googled it, and found a download site that let me download it (required 3 hours).
Armed with the .zip file and ODLIN, it worked like a charm. All my installed apps and data survived, which surprised me. I thought this would be a vanilla install.

Can you install the ROM G900M in G900A using Odin?

I'm trying to use the firmware I downloaded in sammobile.com
along with Odin 3.11.1 to put the G900M firmware in a G900A .
I tried it for nationalize this device that I bought in the US and does not come with the Portuguese/BR language.
It is possible?
I read something about using a backup with EFS. but I need to do root and a lot of things. Only with the Odin I could?
Thanks!
I think you will brick your device if you flash a FW that is not meant for your device.
Realy Sensei22? Maybe using a diferent version like g900F...
Or a alternativa ROM like cyanogen... Cold you recomend anyone?
don't flash anything that was not meant to be for your phone. CM will require root access, so if you are already on 5.0 or above there is just no way to do it.
Really, you will brick your device. The at&t models are bootloader locked. Flashing other ROMs will brick.

Thank you guys for the tips! I was frustrated, but ok!:crying:
If anyone knows of any good ROM for the 900A ...
Or since I have no way to remove the applications from AT & T ... if someone at least know of any tutorial to add the Portuguese language to the device ...
Thank you!

If it's still on KitKat, there's the possibility of root. Then you can run a custom ROM from the SD card.

Hi. To root G900A follow this link: (from android 4.4.2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
I'm using an unlocked ATT phone on T-mobile, so I don't get updates.
However, everybody assumes is easy to install new firmware after rooting, but I just can't find good step by step instructions on how to update my phone to lollipop. I neet to preseve the root after updating, and ideally get rid of all the ATT bloatware. Unbraded firmware will be ideal, but I can't find lucid comments regarding on how to do it, and if it possible in the ATT 900A.
Thanks.
