Hello;
I read about the new rooting method without unlocking the phone and it's very interesting to me
my question is, after i root my phone this way, is it a must to flash another recovery ? or can i just root the phone and leave everything as it is(Stock Rom and Recovery)
i am running FRF83 now and the phone is completely stock, only OTA updates
i want to root to flash updates regarding Arabic support only and still can install official OTA
please help because i don't understand the Rooting idea and it's benefit
regards
Sigh, I guess no one under stands what android DEVELOPMENT means, mods please move to correct section.

here they are talking about Root in other threads, inside the Development Forum
i think i posted in the right place
and you may have helped instead of asking to move it
From my understanding its not a must to install another recovery such as the RA one that was referenced. You can leave it with the stock ROM and you should be able to flash one with Arabic support. Bit from my understanojy as well you wont be able to get the OTA updates.

people say you may receive or manually install Official OTA with stock recovery if the device is still locked and rooted via the new rooting method
and this is what i want to make sure of
thanks for your reply
Moved as not Android Development.

You would do yourself a better service by searching and looking in the "sticky" threads above, in the correct section, instead of expecting people to answer you when you post in incorrect one. And it's excellent that they don't answer there, this makes people learn not to do it again.
To your question: the only prerequisite for installing official updates / OTA is having a stock recovery. Both with unlocked bootloader and with "barely working" method stock recovery can be flashed in place, allowing updates. The only question is - why would anyone need it, having the update file here before 90% of the users get "OTA waiting" notifications every time.
You can learn, what rooting means and what it's needed for, if you read "stickies" and look around this forum a bit. It's a question asked by almost everyone.
hi,
i have htc legend 2.2 and i have visionary to have it temp rooted.
now i have installed ROM Manager from market and it opens out.
i have downloaded custom ROM and my question is
can i use this ROM manager to install custom ROM i just downloaded in temp rooted situation?
You obviously do not read instructions or search for answers or take the time to reread threads so that you understand what has been said.
1) No questions in the Development section, see the sticky thread at the top of the Development section for ALL you need to know about using the forum and rooting and what ROM's are available.
2)Search if you do not find what you want in the Sticky at the top of the development section.
It's only polite to read and take the time to understand what the dev's and other helpful people have gave us before inundating the forum with questions that could be answered if you took the time to look for help as pretty much ANY question you could ask has most likely been asked.
As much as I agree with the post above, I've only ever seen this asked once, and that was in the CM forums.
Temp. root isn't enough, you'll need to downgrade and root that way.
haha, i actually tried that, and it dint work... and i don't know about fake flash back then. you should read post and stickies.
if temp root be used to install custom rom than you should read something similar.
but i did't manage to try this as i have rooted my phone before i tough of this. make a gold card. copy CWM2(update.zip) to root of your card, copy a rom of your choice to your card. off your phone. go to recovery red[!], press vol+ and power button. run update.zip and flash your rom form there. i know now i can. but what about thous that who have stock, will this work? anyone want to try?
thats weird, i tough you cant post anything on the dev side for less than 10 total posts [scratches my head].
Genisuresh currently have 4 total posts.
Worth a try using, with ROM Manager, install the recovery and try reboot into recovery.
If you only get the red exclamation screen, like the above poster suggested, press VOL UP + POWER, flash update.zip (That's your ClockWorkMod/fake flash)
If you have ClockWorkMod show up, try flashing a rooted rom of your choise and report back
Hi there, im new to this forum and Im kind of a novice to flashing and rooting.
Firstly, my device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Sprint version.
Secondly, when I bought this tab, I got fed up of the stock software so I decided to flash the rom. I researched allot on how to do this. Then I came across a custom rom called Modaco and flashed my galaxy tab using Clockwork Recovery.
Thirdly, I started to experience a particular problem - the AutoRotation broke. Whenever I rotated my tab portrait in a way that the homescreen, back buttons etc are in the normal position, the screen itself will be upside down making it difficult for me use the tablet conveniently.
Next, I started to develop another problem, i wasn't able to boot into recovery mode so i came accross another method to remove the modaco custom rom to install the stock rom. I used ODIN and download mode. This worked but the whole autorotation situation still persisted. I downloaded a file that would attemp fixing the autorotation problem but didnt work so I tried booting into recovery mode using ADB recovery and Clockwork Recovery but whenever it attempts to get there, it then shows me the samsung logo and remains frozen.
Lastly, I have come to a conclusion that I dont want to be using custom roms and I think it has to do with the Kernal. I want my tablet to be as I just bought it, untouched, not flashed etc.
If anyone can provide me with a solution, then I will be extremely greatful. Thanks

Hi there,
Can anyone help me in installing 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on my Samsung Galaxy Note?
Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Hafiz
You've to root your phone and install CWM first. It's pretty easy to do. Open up the dev section and you'll find everything there.
Once done, select the ROM that you need. ICS Stunner v5 is by far the best ICS ROM for GN. Read it's forum in the dev section. If you like it, follow the steps mentioned in the forum, it's pretty simple.
Come back if you need any help!

There are quite a few threads for letting you know the detailed process of installing ICS on Note.
You will have to root your phone first. There is also a nice list of methods to do this.
Go to the Developer section and check the 1st post of ICS Stunner thread.
Read it carefully and also watch the youtube vidoe. All the steps are listed for a newbie..
starting like so......
!) are you rooted ? if not check here
2) are you familiar with how to get to Recovery mode and download mode ? else read carefully
* Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button Until N7000 Boot appears Leave Power Button but keep the other two Buttons Pressed you'll get to Recovery Mode with some options.
* Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button Until n7000 Boot appears leave Power Button keep the other two Buttons Pressed you'll get to Download Mode
- PS : Basicly Up Means Recovery And Down obviously means Download thats how you get to the modes. now recovery can clean applications cache and lets you factory set your device (as if you just bought it and started for first time) other than that you need to know what a kernel is (Android Base and it's a Linux kernel) you can flash any you like as long as it matches your phone's Type example (N7000 kernels match GNote) but I9100 doesn't neither do others so watch for this and mainly search in the right forum so you wont get too far, flashing isn't risky that much but keep your files saved.... especially EFS folder for IMEI (there are many ways in each ROM thread you'll probably have the method and explaine of it NOW WATCH OUT TO FLASH CUTOM ROMS YOU NEED ROOT AND FOR Samsung (ROOT == Void Warrenty) so take the risk at your shoulders we are not responssible for any mistake read and follow read 10 times and act once so you wont fail
Download means using Odin and flashing from PC, Increases counter in Download Mode so Samsung will know that you flashed something and it wont intrest them what cause you have no warrenty left, if you flash stock ROMS (not modified) the counter wont increase, most cases you do that if you have a region problem or a curiosity or even a soft brick (means your phone has no Recovery Mode and no Vibration or even a screen text just Download Mode works (u'll use odin to wake it up by flashing a stock ROM) a hard brick means no one can help you if its caused by flashing only a guy or company which repaires and uses JTAG or replaces part (MotherBoard).....
for now thats all....
now installation is simple ROOT and flash that ICS Look theme thats it after you ROOT you'll CMW mostly with SU (SuperUser) permissions so no need for odin flash via Recovery options... and you're set!
GOOD LUCK
* any kernel will do you for a GingerBread ROM (Stock == Factory) but watch for ICS Repacks not just any works. may get Bootloops if wrong

Introduction
Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Help Thread. The purpose of this thread is to gather all relevant information into one area, avoiding clutter of the Q&A section.
This thread was started by @azzledazzle, and kept alive by the good grace of @ThaiDai. It has now been reworked to reflect the current status of the device, with a FAQ completely redone from scratch.
I did add noob friendly again to the title, with the following statement in consideration:
Asking questions without first reading the this post and the FAQ will get you shunned and/or ignored.
Before posting for assistance, you are asked to first read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below, and do Search of the forum using the XDA search feature. As far as I am concerned, there are no stupid questions. However, with this statement in mind, XDA is a development community that requires you attempt to search and find your answer before posting.
NO BEST ROM OR KERNEL QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD.
WARNING:
The Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 can be hardware bricked by various things you might do, because most devices have a faulty chip (called eMMC) inside. This leads to the possibility to kill your device with some commands used in the recovery mechanisms. As such, it is imperative that you act with the utmost care before flashing any custom ROMs or attempting to obtain Root Access.
To ensure you do not destroy your expensive device, please follow the warnings in the sticky threads, read the introductions of each Custom ROM, and follow these general guidelines:
Never do a factory reset on stock ICS ROM (4.0.4) (Click here for more information).
Never use the cwm.zip, i.e., called temporary recovery which still is shared on some websites (Click here for more information).
Always use safe kernels for recovery activities (Click here for more information).

FAQ: SIM Unlocking and Device Tools
Q: Is there an all-in-one thread with tools for our device?
Yes and no. There is a great toolbox thread Found Here, but many parts of it are outdated.
Q: I installed custom ROM firmware, and now I have a "Yellow Triangle". Can I remove it?
A: Yes. There are two options: (1) use Triangle Away by @Chainfire (free on XDA) if you are able to boot into a ROM; or (2) Use the USB Jig Method (LINK)
Q: My device is SIM Locked, or became locked after flashing a new ROM firmware.
A: Download Galaxy S Unlock from the Play Store
Q: What is my EFS and should I back it up?
A: The EFS stores your IMEI and other information. It is crucial to back it up, as it is extremely difficult to recover if lost during a custom ROM flash. Backup your EFS (using kTool)

Q: I am getting cellular reception but my data doesn't work, how can I fix this?
A: MARKER - bad APN
Q: I am getting poor battery life, and/or my screen flickers; what can I do?
A: there are two possible scenarios:
(1) You have kernel wake locks caused by a "rogue app", which can be addressed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31352080

1. Reviews will be inside the ROMs thread, some ROMs have video reviews in the OP, so that would be a good place to check, see what the users have to say.
2. What do you mean by OTA update ? Do you mean official Samsung OTA, Or has Criskelo tweaked the OTA to update his ROM versions? Anyway, You shouldnt use stock OTA's on Custom ROMs, If Criskelo has tweaked the OTA to update his ROMs then it should work, Thats something only he will know.
3. Stock OTA's *can* remove root, Just simply re-root if that is the case (tip: SuperUser has an OTA survival mode - Experimental)
4. Pop up play app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686165&highlight=pop+up+play

It *Can* be done, But it has mixed reviews, Theres a lot of risk involved and ODIN is not official for Mac, Only Modified.
For mac users, Heimdall seems to be the safest way. So i would suggest to learn and use that (or get a windows PC ) to avoid the risk of bricking your Note

Actually when I installed criskelo ROM v9 the initial set up wanted me to opt for OTA update. I was surprised for this didn't happen for v7 , v8 so i wanted to know whats the fuss. Some at the criskelo development thread made it crystal clear that stock ROM will not get OTA update.

This question has probably been asked a thousand times in this section, but it would be good to have 1 Correct answer on this.
Since the Note has the eMMC Brick Bug on the Stock ICS kernel, how does one Successfully flash a Custom ROM using CWM without a chance of Superbricking the device?
And also some clarification an why you should flash Abyss 4.2 lernel before performing a full wipe.

To flash a Custom ROM (and avoid BrickBug) you must first flash a safe kernel, You can do this either in CWM or ODIN, People recommend Abyss kernel because it is / was popular and known to be safe, However most kernels now are safe, But make sure you check before hand.
I always use speedmod or any Kernel derived from Speedmod.
If you have CWM already, Download a Safe Kernel (CWM Version) place it on your SD card and reboot to CWM Recovery and install it.
If you prefer ODIN, Download the Kernel (ODIN Version) Open up ODIN, Find the Kernel in PDA section, Connect phone in Download Mode and hit start.
You can also use Mobile ODIN too.
Hope this helps
Inspire to Note noob
Ok...I used to switch roms on a daily basis on the Inspire/Desire platform. Now I've had my Note GT-N7000 for months now and I've REALLY been itching to get the latest ICS since I'm still on stock 2.3.6. My CSC is KK2 (TPA) from 1saleaday.com. I live in the US...not Panama...so I'm thinking that there's a fat chance of me getting the ICS update OTA. Is that a fair assumption? If not...I can possibly wait for another week or so. I've been checking Kies on a daily basis...no update for me. Is there a noob friendly guide that can show me step by step how to get the latest stock ICS by rooting? I've read Dr. Ketan's post...kinda confusing. I don't want to lay a brick. Is there a way I can install the stock Germany rom and change my CSC to Germany or something and be able to receive the update on Kies to make sure I don't foul it up? I'm pretty afraid that I'm going to forget...and accidentally restore to factory settings or something when JB comes out and have a brick.
It's possible to use the German version, since they have android 4.0.4 already, you may need to flash a different radio too, It depends if you want to stay stock or not.
If you download the required odin firmware along with odin itself, then place the file in PDA section, if the firmware comes in 3 files then add them to their respective sections, such as phone, pda, csc.
You may be able to get csc from a firmware for your region and replace the German one with it.
Then put phone in download mode, connect to pc and hit start.
I'd also advise you to flash a safe kernel straight after the firmware to make full wipes safe.
If you flash speedmod kernel you will be rooted with Cwm and safe from brick bug, then the choice is yours whether to stay stock or move onto something custom

1, To flash a CM9 Based ROM you will need to revert back to GB - So grab a stock GB firmware (links on FAQ section, 2nd post) Flash it via Odin, then flash a kernel (abyss / Speedmod) do full wipe, then flash the CM9 ROM in recovery.
2. Im not sure how that would work, I did recall someone else trying to do this (maybe it was you?) as the webcam would require some sort of power supply and i dont think the phone is capable of that. Anyway, Cant you just use the FFC instead ? I know its not perfect but its better than carrying an already big phone around with a big webcam attached to it lol. (people will think your a Martian from another planet)
I hope I may post my question concerning bricked or not here. If not, please be nice to me
I was on ICS LQ2, Goatrip Custom ROM with Goku Kernel. Yesterday I tried to flash GB before flashing a different custom ROM (didn't come that far).
I tried to flash the KK9 Stock GB ROM from the Stock Thread here (one file .tar.md5, Repartition _un_ticked). Flash stopped at several percent flashing factoryfs and nothing happend anymore. I pulled battery and tried again, no success. Now battery ran out and the Note is not charging as the only thing it say is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue...". I cannot enter recovery, nor download modus as battery is low (download should work with charged battery). I am buying an external charging station later the day to revive the battery.
Is there a chance I bricked the device or is it just a bad flash (why?) which can be solved with a new flash? What do you say? I thought I cannot brick it with Odin, just by doing a factory reset in recovery with an unsafe kernel?
Your welcome to ask any question you like here This is why i created it.
You can brick with ODIN, you run the risk of damage by making any modifications, Usually getting stuck on Factoryfs is not a good sign - but we cannot confirm you have a brick until your battery is charged.
When you get the battery, report back and let me know if you can get into Download mode, If you can, We can fix this
You shouldnt have encountered any issues with a GB firmware, Did you have the Firmware in the correct section of ODIN ? along with NO pit, NO repartition ?
Well I should have put it into the right section in Odin, as it was not my first time I used Odin and normally I check at least twice that everything is alright. I am absolute sure about NO pit and NO repartition. BTW: this goatrip custom ROM used a pit as I flashed it previously. Does this maybe cause the trouble?
I already downloaded a pre-rooted GB from here, three parts this time and I will give it a try this evening. My hopes for download mode are good, as pressing Vol-Down resultings in the "can't download, bat low" message, but I will see later.
Thanks for your help, I hope I will get it running again.
Well the phone IS responding to download mode so that is good news. However using pit files with out repartitioning is not something you want to make a habit of.
Theres a chance that could have caused some issues, If you do use pit files you should tick the re-partition box, But also be sure that you are using the correct pit files, i.e 16gb / 32gb
You should be ok to flash a full stock GB firmware, 9 out of 10 times it fixes everything So make sure to report back and let us know
Good luck :good:
