Updated to ICS,CWM recovery 6.0.1.0 cannot backup. - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

I have updated my tab to official ICS 4.0.4 then I've installed CWM 6.0.1.0
every thing seem to be ok ,I can go to CWM recovery mode, download mode,
clear cache,clear stat...etc.
But when I use backup and restore command, the report under the green robot picture
stop at the "backup system" and then suddenly reboots every time.
Please someone help me fix this.
thank you.

Try using twrp instead of cwm. In the deployment section orlandoxpolice has a "official ATT ICS" thread with a link to it. You can flash it over cwm with Odin.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using xda app-developers app

you should post your device type... from earlier posting I'd say you have p7300. there is no twrp for that.
I've never used 6.x recovery. I tried 5.5.0.4, but find 5.1.2.6 to be the best for my use
the 6.0 cwm came with a new radically different incremental backup mechanism, which took several minor versions to perfect... I'm not a fan of it...
anyway, do you have enough disk space for a backup
otherwise to go back to a 5.x recovery

Thanks Fred. My mistake. I was working on some other i957's and didn't think to ask.

Thank you for your help fred,I'll go back to 5.1.2.6
And I'll report my progress.

Hi again,
I cannot find 5.1.2.6 link.
can someone help please?

See my ICS faq here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31771837
Q3 links to a post, that links to a post, that links to that cwm
Then read the whole FAQ, it's interesting.

No luck at 5.1.2.6 man,
The backup process still reboot.
What's happen in official ICS system.
Fred,please try the command.
thanks.
:A friend of mine have tried with CWM 5.5.0.4,and he gets the same result as mine!

I'll try it on the weekend

thank you fred.

Worked for me on the second attempt. I'm on 5.1.2.6.
First time I had 1.8GB free space, and it reported error while doing backup of /data.
I freed up 3GB, and it succeeded. My backup is 1.8GB.
Make sure you have enough free space. It needs 650mb for system, and a variable amount for data.

I'm on
- ROM: Official XXLQ6 "open Austria" ROM (initially installed from Odin / reinstalled with my own zip)
- ROOT: initially the package "kk_ics_root.zip" that I repacked from kaltt_kaffe's ported ROM. But a month ago, I installed the "official" package http://androidsu.com/superuser/ (v3.2 RC3). Works just the same
- KERNEL: AAccount 1.8.3c
but, more to the point, I don't think any of that really matters. Your rom/root/kernel are "passive" when you are in Recovery, which is a self-contained system with its own kernel, etc.
Obviously, you do have an issue to deal with. I don't know how to test this, but could there be corruption on your 'sdcard' partition?

Cant restore CWM backup

Yesterday, I tried to change ROM (to check it out) so before this I did a backup in CWM.
What a surprise when CWM didnt restore this backup. I was looking through the internet for solution and I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15431672&postcount=24
I have same problem as in first post of this thrade (when restoring data, the whole process is stopped) but this solution seems to be for HTC Desire. What could I do if I want data back?
Please help me.
r u using same version of CWM to backup and restore?
new version not backward compatible with an older version backup
Yes, it is the same version

No no, i didnt change anything. The problem is described in that link, it seems that some versions of cwm have problem with restore and have to be fixed than the restore should work. But I dont know how to fix it.
Just simply update CWM to a newer version before restoring the backup.
I pushed the commit long time ago so any "recent" cwm (5.x) will solve the problem.
Hope this helps
Thanks a lot LinoX, but there is only CWM v4.0.1.5 for x8 on XDA.
Is it useful (should I try it?) or do I need newer version? (as you wrote 5.x.x)

if it is an unmodified build (from source) then yes (sometimes there're custom modified builds to add functions. Those recoveries can be problematic because they break more than they fix. Recoveries are really important and you should install only "trusted" ones.)
Try with this one and let us know if it suffices (I'm sure 5.x has the fix, I'm not sure if 4.x had it too...but you shouldn't do any damage..at most it will halt again when restoring)
It seems to work but after first restore there were many apps not be restored, so i did another one. It is better now but still there are about 5 apps not restored plus stock Internet browser (dont know if some other system apps too).
I think it is strange that after every restore there is not same result and not what was backuped at all.
Where could be a problem and is it worth to try restore until everything is restored?
It is true that backup was created by cwm3.2(seems ported from x10mini) included in gingerdx rom i use.

Hi, I have a nandroidbackup made using CWM 5.0.2.7. And I want to restore it. Now I have CyanogenMod7 and I have Clockworkmod 5.0.0.6.
So I copied the nandroidbackup from external_sd to internal_sd, and now when it shows up in my restore menu.
Is there any problem that the backup was made with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and I restore it with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.6 ?

[Q] Finallly rooted my N1 - so what is next for a new ROM?

Well after having my N1 for two years (I bought it on launch day) I finally got up the never to root it using this process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
Had a few heart stopping moments as the script hung until I realised that while I had download the SDK to get the USB driver I hadn't actually installed the driver for the phone.
Confirmed that it was rooted by downloading Titanium Backup and doing a backup.
For a new ROM (as yet undecided) is a Titanium Backup good enough or should I also do the cyanogenmod clockworkmod recovery?
Should I be able to restore my apps and settings after the new ROM using the Titanium Backup?
You wanna do a Nandroid or Full Image Backup with Clockwork. Titanium is just as you said apps and data. Although, I think CWM has a system bu option. Don't use CWM anymore use Amon_Ra. So not up on steps. The post 3.0 CW's have had issues and are documented.
You can restore apps and data at any time with Titanium, but I think to do system stuff you need to be restoring to same rom.
I highly recommend Nandroids and sdcard backups before doing any new flashing.
Start with CM7 roms the stable ones, then move on. Read OP pages fully and scan threads front to back for info/problems etc

use the pre 3.0 versions
Let's try Amon_RA Recovery
Best recovery by far. Never any issues. Been using this version for months and months. Perfect with flashing, backing up, restoring, and partitioning.
are you experienced with fastboot commands adb etc
The downside with Amon_RA is it doesn't give you the option to wipe the /system partition. I have stuck with a pre-3.0 version of ClockworkMod for this reason. There is a new recovery out there called 4EXT that is based on ClockworkMod, but doesn't have the issue with corrupting partitions. He has also added a TON of new features. This does seem to be the best on out there now. He even just released a touch-based version. The thread is in the development section.

This is the eagerly awaited nandroid of the latest update for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-T879)
This update is available OTA or manually through Kies, however, most people have not been able to install the update.
Here are the details of the update:
Improvements
Error: ‘Enter MAC address’ after entering MAC address
Weather widget does not show current location
MobileLife contacts addresses combined into a single field
This nandroid was taken from my Tmo Note on 8/14/2012 after successfully installing the OTA.
Please Note: This is only the nandroid backup for the latest TMo Note update. It does not include the new modem. I still need to pull the files and for the UVLG3 modem and will post that when I can. I'll work on two versions, one full and one with the RILs stripped.
I'll try to get that done today as well, but work comes first, so please, no ETA questions.
Disclaimer: I, or any other member of XDA, am not responsible if you brick your device. Attempt at your own risk.
I uploaded to my dropbox, mediafire may be added later.
You will need to unzip and then place the nandroid zip in your backup folder

For the Nandroid backup, just copy the unzipped folder to clockworkmod/backup. Then go into cwr and restore through the backup and restore menu.
You might be able to temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper before doing this, I don't know for sure. I did this to get the OTA, not using a nand backup. But I would think it should work the same.
If you go that route I would play with Rootkeeper a bit to make sure it works for you, before trying it with the nand.
Otherwise, just flash the nand and reroot the normal way. Might be more time consuming, but go the safe route if you're not sure.
Remember, it's your device and money, so choose the path best for your investment and peace of mind.

I agree. I was scratching my head on that one as well. I did a factory reset and wiped my phone before doing the nandroid, so I don't think any of my personal files should be in it. I even had to set up my phone again and download all my apps again after, so not really sure why it's so large.

UPDATE
Everyone,
The nand that I updated somehow corrupted, probably between the partial upload at home and then at work. If you have already downloaded, go ahead and delete it. I am uploading a new one right now before I leave work. Should be done within the hour, as long as my upload speeds keep up.
Again, the file is corrupted (which explains the size not being correct), delete if you have downloaded.
I have updated the OP and removed the link, will repost once ready.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

[Recovery] Safestrap Recovery V3.0 [11/07/2012 V3.05.x] [All Versions]

Updated Safestrap for RAZR-HD/Atrix-HD to v3.12:
Download the APK Installer Here for "RAZR-HD/ATRIX-HD"
md5sum: 9b3d75e84c06d1e71af1bf1bad57faf3
FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: How to Safestrap
CHANGES:
[01/04] (3.12) Fix initial file selector location for backup/restore
[12/29] (3.11) Allow use of custom updater-binary in .zip files for flashing on stock ROM (virtual slots still use prebuilt updater-binary in recovery).
[12/29] (3.11) BUGFIX: Fixed fake flash error at the end of a .zip install. (No real error, .zip installs fine)
[12/29] (3.10) Early support for booting custom ROMs on stock partitions. * STILL TESTING -- BUGGY*
[12/29] (3.10) Enable flashing to stock ROM
After .zip installations, nandroid restore or system wipe on the stock ROM: the current Safestrap files are restored to the system partition (Doesn't include the APK in /data -- so if you're restoring an old backup, be sure to update the Safestrap APK)
During the Safestrap files restore a check is done to be sure there are minimal files on /system to re-enter Safestrap
[12/27] (3.07) Bugfix: missed some changes in Safestrap 3.06
[12/26] (3.06) Bugfix/Update for JB4.1 OTA for DroidRAZR (Non-JB devices can also use)
SPECIAL THANKS TO:
- The entire TWRP team who has built an AMAZING recovery system.
- The testers (BigDX) which have helped in past and present versions of Safestrap, knowing that it could mean they brick their devices.
As always let Hashcode know what you think!!!
For users running jellybean leak only
INSTRUCTIONS for getting STOCK running on a rom-slot:
[ EDIT: 11/15, Removed fix-rom-slot.zip from instructions. It's no longer needed and screws up paid apps. ]
STEPS:
1. Install Safestrap 3 from the above notes
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Make a backup of your stock rom slot
4. Go into "Boot Options" and create a new rom-slot (if you haven't) -- 1GB data is probably good enough for most users
5. Once that is created it may say "rom slot: off" at the top, make sure to go back into the new rom-slot and use "Activate" button
6. Now use the "Restore" button on the main menu to restore the backup you made of stock to the new rom-slot
7. When that's done restoring, use "Wipe" -> "Factory Reset" and then "Dalvik Cache" from the main menu
8. At this point you should have a full working copy of the stock MotoBlur ROM on a rom-slot which you can flash and modify w/o fear of bricking.
9. Reboot and enjoy
IF USERS on STOCK ICS want a method for getting that onto a rom-slot as well, let Hashcode know.
When I open up the apk it closes and says unfortunately safe strap has stopped working

I'm an idiot please help

So in my infinite wisdom I deleted com.android.providers.media using titanium backup. I thought I had backed the file up but apparently I didn't. Either that or it didn't actually back the file up. Either way elements of my phone are now totally burned as you would imagine. No gallery, no music in my music player, and no ringtones. So my question is even if I do a factory reset will that help? Yes this was the stock ROM yes I tried installing a stock image on top of the ROM but the installation froze and I had to reboot and restore my nan droid. No I didn't have a nandroid of before I started dicking around. And finally yes I am a complete idiot. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sweet thanks man. So would u say that I should safely be able to install over the stock ROM? Or should I wipe then install? Also since these are stock I can install them to ROM slot stock right?

Hey, so I've been doing a lot of research on safe strap and apparently you cannot overwrite the stock ROM slot which would be why I couldn't flash anything to it. So what I did was create a new slot (slot 1) with the stock image. I installed safestrap to that new ROM. My question now would be, If I create a nandroid of that ROM and restore it to the stock slot will that work? Or will it bork due to not having safestrap recovery installed to the system partition anymore and there for stop it from booting along with killing safestrap? Hoping some one can chime in on this one as I'm quite anxious to get back to normal phone use. at least for now all my sounds are back but having a 1 gig system partition is a major bummer.

Hey, so I've been doing a lot of research on safe strap and apparently you cannot overwrite the stock ROM slot which would be why I couldn't flash anything to it. That's where I'm at. On my stock rom, /system/etc/safestrap was added, logwrapper was modified to execute 2nd-init. AFAIK, that's all that was added. I'm so used to the Defy bootstrap method that I'm having a hard time getting used to SS - Defy BS was clearly laid out on what was executed and when that was done -- I've even looked at the SS source and its scripts and still can figure out what's the first script called by the 2nd-init loader....makes me feel super noob .
Well supposedly hash code said that after every restore and flash to the safe slot (stock) safe strap will reinstall itself on /system so if that's the case restoring any backup to that safe slot should be OK. But if that were the case no one would be able to brick. And I've seen people brick with and lose safestrap, and have to use RSD. Which is the road I don't want to have to go down. Really wish I had a definite answer because it seems like it should work but I don't want to do it unless some one who knows more about this than me confirms it.
