I was messing around with the root files when I deleted the CameraApp.odex file by accident. Now the stock camera app disappeared from the menu, and I am unable to get it back anyhow. My CameraApp.apk is still the stocked one, but I can't back the .odex file. Can anyone help by extracting the CameraApp.odex file from their root folders and uploading it?
Thanks so much in advance, this is killing me :crying:

The CameraApp.apk > http://www.4shared.com/android/qWylbCjC/CameraApp.html
The CameraApp.odex > http://www.4shared.com/file/eDu3vGeH/CameraApp.html
After replace the CameraApp.apk you need to install it like any other app. Just click and let the phone install, cause if you uninstall yours to make it works only like that, or doing factory reset and the system will install the app, but there is no need for a factory reset...
Good luck
When I copied the files to my root, the camera crashed when I opened it. However, it worked when I installed the apk directly from my sd. Guess im unable to get it to work as a system file anymore, unless I do a factory reset, which I am pretty much unwilling to do. Thanks anyway!

I told you to install normally the Camera.apk.
after install and reboot, search and see if you don't have the file in your root...
The .odex you'll probably need to paste, not sure...
Edit... sorry, I said after replace on the other reply... anyway, hope it helps.

Hello,
I got my Kindle Fire HD (2013) a few days ago. I rooted the device and installed Google Play. Know I've a big Problem. After reboot the Device it always stops at language Settings - I've to switch the Screen off and on Choose my language than I can use it, but if I presse Home Button or the Back button a view times the Device went to Language settings again than I've again to switch the sreen off/on and selcet my language. The second problem ist that no Downloads from Amazon are working, no Apps no Books, everything is "waiting for Download.
I would be very thankfulj If somebodey knows what I've to do. Thanks in advance.
PS: I tried unrooting / root again, and a view Hardresetts - but nothing helps.

1. Amzaon downloads are not working if Google Playstore is installed. To use them both you've alwas to change System files. It is not possible to use them together at the same, you've change the files an reboot.
Save:
DownloadProvier.apk
DownloadProvier.odex,
DownloadProvierUI.apk
DownloadProvierUI.odex to your SDCARD
and Save:
DownloadProvierUI.apk
DownloadProvier.apk from GooglePlay install script als to your SDCARD (to Install Playstore I used kyleberry.graphics script).
So what I'm doing for the moment is If want to Download from Amazon I copy the 4 files from original Frimware /system/app (don't forget the permissions - reboot), If I want to use Playstore I copy the two files from Playstore install script to /system/app (delete the 4 org. files before)
2. Language-Settings
I just renamed OOBE-release-signed.apk and OOBE-release-signed.odex
Regards
Thank you, it works.

Hi!
I had to let my HTC One M7 be repaired in a store for the next two weeks. The person who took my phone asked me to take all the files from the phone (like a USB Flash drive) and paste it in a folder on Windows.
I did it. But now I am using my old Samsung Galaxy 1 and I can't find the Agenda/Calendar file in the folder. There are weird file names. It took me hours and I haven't found it yet. I'd like either to put it on my Samsung phone or in my iCalendar (Mac). Do you have any idea?
Thank you already :highfive:

The calendar app is a core Android app, it would be located in the drive root. Unless, you have root access you would not have been able to access the folder. Since, it is a core app it should still be on your phone when you get it back. An over the air (OTA) update file is sent to your phone when there is an system update. It is a zip file that can be opened with winzip or other zip programs. The custom ROM files are zip files that developers have made to customize the operating system of the phone. You can find them in the Development Section of this forum.
I don't think the OP is looking for the calendar app, but the calendar data so their appointments/meetings can be viewed on their other phone/Mac
Hello, I am running an ATT S5 and although there is the bloat were drive mode app I am looking for the stock car mode app and was hoping someone could upload the required APK for me as I cannot find it anywhere. Many thanks.
Edit: The S voice APK would also be most helpful.

I had previously found the S voice APK on Google, they never worked, always CTD on start, just had the idea to make it a system app and it worked so happy, happy. 2nd I am not looking for the AT&T app I want the Samsung car mode app, which is not on the playstore and I assume is hidden on the Galaxy store like the S voice app.

Install a launcher, Nova or Apex both work. Add a shortcut (system shortcut not apps) choose a setting short cut and look for Drive Mode. It also gives you the option to use Download Booster. Which AT&T has removed.
The drive mode is present in your phone, its only hidden cuz they want you to use their AT&T drive mode. Samsung one still exists! Hope this helps.
Are you running an S5, I am using a custom rom for my 900A, it lacks this function though even the nandroid backup lacks the required apk

Okay, here are the files from the /system/ directory of my own S5. Mine is the Sprint variant, however I'm confident that they're the same...
You CAN NOT flash this .zip in recovery, you must extract the contents and copy to the appropriate directories in the system partition.
Remember after you put them there, you must change the permissions for the folders and the files:
__________/rwxr-xr-x/ rw--r--r
/system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk

__________/___rwxr-xr-x___/ rw--r--r

No, you dont do that....
you do exactly what i explained....
download the .zip,
extract the contents to SD Card, (or ANY Download folder),
Once extracted, you will have simple directory, starting with "system/",
[ Now, you simply go thru the folders, and copy them from where you extracted them and paste into same folders in your phonephone's "system/" partition....]
Basically;
if you copy it from /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your SD Card,
Then you paste it to /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your phone...
Change permissions as i indicated earlier, as you copy each one,
When all are done, reboot. ..
[While booting back up a message will say something like
"Optimizing Application 1 of 3..."
thats a good sign that you did it right. ...]

Hi, thanks for the explanation, but I'm really new at this, and I need this application.
I do not understand, "Change permissions as I indicated earlier, as each copy"
that you mean this?, the only thing I see is that button "r-w and r-o" or you mean super user permissions?
------------read---------write---------execute
---owner--x-------------- x--------------
----group--x--------------x-------------
----Other--x------------- x------------
----set uid-----------set gid-------r sticky
hello ... when given permission to DriveLink, and drivelinkremote,
at 2 give them permission, but I did this to see if this well in owner, group, others, check all run.
restart, and indeed was installed when lit, but when I want to open, do not find in menu, and the car mode toggle of the active,
I get that you can not open out "car stopped mode"
Do you mean that the app is force-closing when it tries to open after toggling the 'car mode' quicksetting?

okay, hopefully this will answer any questions you have had or would have had...
I know its a little messy, but bear with me, I've never done a Screen Recording before...
Just read the instructions i posted above, watch the videos, and if you still dont get it, read and watch again...
remember to put things in the same folder paths you pull the from (the main difference between the two videos), etc...
Once all are done, reboot....

I searched the Games and Apps forum and the Amazon FIre forums, and didnt find anyone with this problem.
I have an Amazon 7" 5th Gen Fire, and I have installed Google Play store via sd_shadow's method, and I am very happy that it worked.
The thing I am having a problem is this:
Xcom: Enemy within downloads the full 3.4 gig game, but upon launching, within the app, it tries to "download" something in game, but fails every time, right at the start.
I have the game on my phone as well, and the md5sums are the same for the 2 OBB files, but that is all I can find of the game. There are no Android/media or Android/data files.
Suggestions? Does anyone have this working ?
Thanks,
WoodTablet
You could try to copy the files on your phone over to the fire, putting them into the same folder locations.
Where do I look though ?
These 2 directories dont have any files for the game.
/0/Android/media
/0/Android/data
The files in this directory are the same on the phone as on the tablet (I used md5sum to confirm they are exactly the same)
/0/Android/obb/com.tt2k???/xcom-ew/
Same problem
I've had the same issue with XCOM on my Fire (2015) and my Fire HD8 (2016).
My guess is that somehow they're trying to authenticate or get extra data, but the Amazon services mess that up by intercepting or blocking them in some way. Sort of like how if you try to open a google play link in an app you only get the option to open it in the amazon appstore.
My Fire 2015 is on stock at the moment, but I may flash SlimLP or CM to see if this issue still happen when there is not an Amazon service in sight.
I have the same problem with XCOM:EW on m Fire HD8 (2017).
I already opened a support ticket for 2K but honestly I don't think, they will or are able to solve this issue.
My guess is that as long as we don't have native Android custom rom like Lineage, resp. as long as we are completely depended on Amazon, this problem won't be solved for us
Has anyone figured out a workaround?
Any solution?

I have a solution
Hi everyone,
I'm digging up this thread because I have found a solution.
XCom:EW works differently when run on an Amazon device or on a standard Android Device.
On an Amazon device, it tries to connect to an AWS bucket to get en update. The AWS Bucket is not working anymore, that's why you have a download failed error.
To avoid this behavior, you need to:
- decompile the APK (using APK Easy Tool for example)
- Edit the Smali code of the main file to change a small comparison, and trick the application to think it is not running on an Amazon Device.
The file you have to change is:
com\tt2kgames\xcomew\UE3JavaApp.smali
Line 13203: nst-string v15, "Amazon"
Change it to
Line 13203: nst-string v15, "NONE"- Recompile and sign the APK
- Install it to your Fire Hd
And VOILA!
It works very smoothly on my Amazon Fire HD 10.
I hope you will enjoy it too.

But there is no line: nst-string v15, "Amazon"
Can someone help?
Can't find this file. Maybe apk changed? I have XCOM_EW 1.7.0
And btw the issue still exist on the new gen amazon fire tablets. I'm running on fire hd 10 plus
I've had success with this instruction above by user Jon_Ge in Post #9. Thx for that!
In Wordpad i found it under the line: const-string v15, "Amazon"
Besides this in the Apk Easy Tool you have to look for the correct folder after decompiling the apk. It creates another folder where you have to search for and set this new one in the directory for compilation.
Otherwise you would just compile the same unchanged file like i did in first time. Then i realized i had to change the file directory for the decompiled and changed file to have the correct file compiled. I hope this helps.
