I can't remember for sure, but backups made with an older recovery version won't restore on this version right? Is it still orange? The 4.x incredible 2 recovery is deep blue/purple, but I think it might be unique to that particular version. Pretty important difference I know.. But what might the benefits to the new version be?
Tried to wait and couldn't..
Flashed fine and all seems OK.
Honestly I don't see any difference. It's still orange.

I will wait for rom manager, better wait than sorry.
Not trying to be a **** but I don't think this should really be called CWM as Koush didn't make it. Unless he authorized someone else to mod it for him but the dev gives no indication that that was the case. I might be unaware that birdman took over CWM development in that case I apologize. It kind of misleads people into thinking this is from Koush and that they can expect it to show up in ROM Manager soon which it won't. Might have been better to name it Modded CWM 4.0.0.5.

to my understanding koush made cwm open source and this was built from his newest source (4.0.0.5) so technically it is still cwm
So only known advantages to upgrading is that you can wipe /datadata and /emmc?
What sort of significance do wiping these folders do?

Thats cool and like I said I wasn't trying to disrespect birdman just the name he choose is confusing. I saw the thread title and said cool Koush is putting out a new CWM and kept checking ROM manager for it. Finally came back here and followed the link and saw it wasn't Koush's work and was dissapointed. I only download from a few trusted dev's and not into trying alpha's unless absolutely necessary. Like when my Eris lost is trackball function last summer and a guy I met in the forums made the group a version of amon's recovery that didn't need it.
if im running an old version of recovery (2.5) and i update to try out some new roms, i wont be able to restore my nandroid from 2.5?

Now that ROMs are being rolled out, will we be seeing a Cyanogen Mod? I ran it on my G1, Mytouch Slide, G2, and need some Cyanogen loving for my D3...
Is he waiting for the unlocked bootloader?

Be patient. CyanogenMod is a source built ROM, it's compiled from source and the source code is a mix of AOSP from Google/Android and the CyanogenMod Team's own programming. Hashcode has been working very hard on getting the source ported so that it will compile and run on the Droid 3. He's also working on making it work in a "sandbox" area so as not to affect the stock ROM (easy to switch back and forth between the two).
All the current ROMs for the Droid 3 are modified stock ROMs. Some theme changes, app deletions/additions, a few build.prop edits, etc...

I am not that well versed on CyanoGen... I started off with a D2, and the flexribbon broke before I was able to see the dawn of custom kernels. Is cyanogen truly a custom kernel? If so, I assume we're trying to hijack the boot process to load dual kernels?

CyanogenMod on locked bootloaders hijacks the init process and runs on top of the stock kernel. No kernel replacement on locked bootloader phones.
Yyup, that's what I thought.
Also, according to Hashcode0f, well be seeing a CM7 beta in the very, very near future. He's going to be writing a dossier up on it shortly.

Even though it has a bootloader, that doesn't mean the development cannot take place. Why not develop now so when the bootloader gets unlocked, you will already have a pretty descent ROM to flash on!

Honestly, I don't believe the bootloader will ever be unlocked. It will have to be unlocked by Motorola and I just do not believe that they ever will.
So developing ROMs (from source) will require using the 2nd-init process CM7 is using to boot the "new" OS on top of the stock kernel. Kernel will remain stock.......

If the acquisition passes through (which likely won't be soon).. word is Google bought them more for patents than for anything else. If we're lucky, Google might make sure future phones are unlocked. However I highly doubt Google will do anything about phones already released.
Plus Moto said they would release an update to unlock the bootloaders where carrier approved. The other variations of the droid 3 may get unlocked, but I doubt big red will give their approval for unlocking the droid 3.

There was some work to get CM9 running on the device using 2nd-Init. Im going to look into 2nd-init a bit more, and try booting a htc one x CM9 on this which might only just work.

Yeah, but kholk is working on unlocking the bootloader. He might not succeed, so it's great if more devs are interested and have a look at 2nd-init (which works quite well on older Motorola devices, such as Milestone and Defy).

I will look on it but then it doesn't mean a smooth progress.
Just helping here.
some hints to get resolved.
bootup "wallpaper" binary is started by lg.early.rc which checks for DRM binaries are where they should be in /system/lib and /vendor/lib folder, which normally would exclude any option for refreshing those at bootup.
bootup init files replace and removed if you use 2nd-init and it will reload the same binaries and you might get locked up, if its not cleaned.
modem binaries: they require some authentication it seems to get enabled, i did not find out what triggers it but using logcat -b radio did not help much on my OneX build.
wifi: LG have already compiled the kernel with the wifi driver built-in, which Means the libhardware_legacy, needs to skip the stage to insmod the wifi driver, it can be tricky or you need a workaround reloading the BTHID kernel module, to get around it.
for the wallpaper binary, you can always run it from Shell checking if you touched or removed liblgdrm or libdrmframework files, as it will Lock bootup, but thats only if you got the device in your hands, otherwise testers need to prepare to use the original kdz files and reflash Again, spending alot of time on nothing
using Mount -obind to get around replacing the files needed is the trick to replace lib supposed to be in /system/lib at bootup, using "ln -s" to point to a different bind'd folder when you actually can do it (from like a vold wrapper or so)
thats all hints i can come up with for now.
talked to some guys whom done 2nd Init.
They said aren't impossible but i am not sure they can help on this project.
I can't do much, don't have O4X for testing as well.
this the part of updates here
i do not believe anyone can do much without the o4x remote, especially when playing with 2nd-init and bypassing security and trying to improve.
it will probably die before it starts getting to boot
initially i seemed to be the only one getting a custom modded port working on o4x and i needed the device to get that far and as you said previously you will not ask for another contributed device, so it might just stop with our premodded recoveries by 2nd-init and maybe be leaked cm10 i did in another thread. (although not worth much)

create a vanilla version (,a clean version, stile Nexus),for example a v10H, deodexed, without Lg programs and useless programs. I Believe the users like it a clean version, fast ,and powerful.
Would be interested in a stripped and tweaked version of stock, vanilla style ics. If it's do able?

Tried It
Just from my experience, it works well! Used it while running Elegancia 20.0 (with S-Off)
I did encounter a bug though. After it sideloads the rom for the first time, you need to manually reboot into recovery for it to install the apps or else you'll be stuck in a animation bootloop.
So what all does it do? I know it unlocks the bootloader for you, but does it install a recovery as well, or just install the ROM and leave it at that?

Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Kudos the dev team for the installer app
Tried it myself on my HTC device. Works pretty good. But it has its faults as the installer will stump a couple of people not familiar with loading roms, unlocking devices, and recovery menus.
1. You gotta install HTC sync to install the HTC USB drivers. Then un-install the HTC syn software only. I had to debug this process on my end b/c the SYC software would cause a conflict with the Cynanogen installer. And was having issues when putting the device in debug mode > from the developer options.
2. The installer did unlock my phone, asked for token and all.
3. During the rom install, it did reboot the phone and caused me start the whole process over again; this happened about 2 times.
4. It does not install Gapps, you must get them and side load them via the recovery menu.
Other than that it worked like it was supposed to. It flash the follwing:
-CM 10.2-20131101-SNAPSHOT-InstallerBeta3-m7spr
-Android 4.3.1
Alas it did not fix the camera issue that has been plaguing some users ( a blue purple tint when taking pictures). Overrall its a good step in helping "teh noobs" in using custom roms on their smartphones.

You know you sound ridiculous, right? I know how and have rooted/flashed so many roms on my Evo that I got kind of burnt out. I was one of the early adopters that had to go through the 45 min, you could very possibly brick your phone, root method. The two reasons I haven't gone through it with the One is I don't have the time, but more importantly, I don't have the patience. This takes away all effort/worry/questions. I was probably going to just let the One be, now I will most likely root in the next few days. Do I necessarily want CM? No. This will make me put it on my phone and try it before I flash something else now though.
That is my thinking as an experienced flasher. "Knowing how" and choosing to do it the inefficient way sounds like you are a hipster or something.

The thing is, nobody's really wrong here. If you already are familiar with the process of flashing, than this is of little use to you, other than checking it out. If you are new to flashing, this gives you a more safe and simple way to go about it. Whether or not you use or like CM, it is still a great leap forward that a development group is taking it upon themselves to offer solutions to problems that plague any user with a taste for customization. And we are all hipsters here, in the sense that the vast majority of device users have no idea what we do here or how we do it. Even more don't care. I think everybody finds that it is easy to misunderstand or read attitude where there is none actually intended. It happens to me all the time. My penny and a half.
I tried it, unfortuantely, it just rebooted the phone into the bootloader and stops. I'm sure it's because I have twrp installed. I have no idea how to switch from twrp to cyanogen.
EDIT: Okay their wiki is a lot better now, AND the mountpoints are correct! cyanogen recovery worked, flashing last nights 10.2 nightly, wish me luck!
I'm gonna miss my HTC Sense I think :\

He means LineageOS 14.1 which is not dead. Heck my old ass Samsung Galaxy Note Pro is running LineageOS 14.1 so never say never when it comes to LineageOS. My Note Pro was about to be recycled until LineageOS 14.1. It feels like a new tablet now. I would love it on my G6!!!

Curious if LG G6 will eventually get root, and custom recovery to allow for Lineage 14.1 ROM ?

People are working on root right now. There's already a Lineage build for this phone too so yeah there will be root and Lineage

http://downloads.codefi.re/rashed/g6/h872/lineage-14.1-20170407-UNOFFICIAL-h872.zip that's the link to the build and I'm in the dev chat where people are building a program to root the phone

You guys / gals are angels from heaven to work on this. Thank you
I still think the best bang for the buck phone out for 2017 is the LG G6, selling for like $499 now, and soon with Root and official CM14.1 ( Lineage ROM ), it's the phone to beat for the price. The G6 running official Cyanogen ROM for $499, I'm all over that. Will be a super cool phone. Plus it's IP68 waterproof, and has wireless charging, and is also very one handed friendly for a 5.7" device. This phone with AOSP ROM = nerds wetdream

This looks like a good sign, hopefully the T-Mobile version is next

International Version already has TWRP
Apparently the intl model's bootloader does not have all the fastboot commands stripped out like our tmo model :|
This makes theirs much easier to twrp/root.
So we just need a recovery and rom if we can unlock our bootloaders already ?
I saw this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634759622 looking around, I am not the dev of this nor have any part or take any credit on this. I just think this is a little weird I haven't seen nothing around here unless that's the same rom posted in the development thread, But by a different dev?

Yes, but there is no way to install twrp quite yet. To the best of my knowledge they devs basically have it, but they have to refine it an d make it user friendly so we aren't all bricking our phones

I've rooted every one of my phones since the OG Droid. Oddly enough, I'm really not missing root much for this phone- was originally hanging on the edge of my seat for it. As I've been living with it through the last few weeks, though, I don't think about it much. If it does get root, I'll probably do it- but this is the first time I think it won't matter that much. I'm really enjoying this phone (my first LG).
Cheers!

Don't quote me but the official unlock is just like it was on g5. But boorloader unlock still works for g5 and g6 just not an "official" unlock
Really hoping that they do this soon. The phone was fantastic for the first couple of weeks then the anticipated happened, as has been my experience with all carrier ROMs. It starts to get sluggish, battery life gets crap (I was getting 6+hours SOT, now lucky to get 4), and phone is generally becoming slower.
Like many, I don't need crazy fancy ROMs, the G6 is surprisingly nice in stock format. Just want a clean, light, optimized ROM/kernel without all the TMobile crap they think people like.
