How do I replace an apk from an FTF? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi,
I would like to learn if it's possible to extract the Sony default home screen app and replace it with modified version (which has more home screen, etc) and then flash back without rooting?
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app

I think you can open the ftf file with winrar, modify it, save it.

Not quite that simple.
You need you need to extract the system.sin from the ftf.
Follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723284
However, instead of using unyaffs, i dump the .sin as an .ext4 and use ext2explorer to browse within it.

1 question. After modifying the .ftf, say changing the launcher to another stock, do I need locked bootloader or unlocked one to flash it.

locked bootloader will be fine. You should flash the ftf in flashtool

What if I add apps without replacing any apps? As long as those apps don't require su will that be okay?

Should be, try and it and see. I think it may depend on which app it is...I have not added apps to an ftf before without replacing them with the ones already there and changing the names to the ones I have replaced.

I know this is very old topic, but would like to know if anyone succeeded in doing this?

{Q} Possible ETA of root for Xperia V?

Hi
I just got my Xperia V today. However as the title says, I wanted to root my phone but unfortunately it requires me to unlock my bootloader. The second way was Bin4ry's root tool but it doesn't seem to work. Question is, is anyone working for a root without unlocking bootloader or any ETA of a release for the Xperia V? Thanks for taking time to read and I don't mean any disrespect if I accidentally disrespected you in anyway.

[Root] Xperia V 9.1.A.0.490

I managed to get my phone rooted; here's what I did:
Requirements:
Unlocked bootloader
Flashtool
Your applicable 9.1.A.0.490 FTF file (I used Singapore version)
boot.img from latest KXP
Latest SuperSU
Guide:
Flash phone to official 9.1.A.0.490
Flash boot.img in Fastboot
Boot normally, enter recovery and install UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.0.4.zip
Power off phone after installing, then re-flash 9.1.A.0.490, but flash only kernel!
Start normally and check root access!
(I wrote this in a hurry, and I assume you know how to use Flashtool, boot into Flashmode/Fastboot mode and navigate in recovery! Not newbie friendly, so caution is advised!)
Testing
Edit: Any way to extract boot.img from stock FTF?

Just flash stock FTF and check all boxes in the Exclude section to exclude system, etc., and leave kernel unchecked.

Thought it would be easier so we can just download the kernel not the whole firmware. Also here's the kernel for KXP. You don't have to download the whole rom anymore. KXP Kernel

how to flash the stock JB kernel only? I have the full FTF file, but how to flash kernel(.sin) seperately?
or maybe you can converte a boot.img version and upload it?
The question I would hate to ask you is your mobile bravia & download music info working or the drm keys are lost again as I would like to know as I rather wait to root through locked bootloader as all the problem was fixed when I relock and updated to JB via pc companion and I will not unlock my smartphone again?

1: You don't have to quote the whole thing.
2: You can flash this by unchecking everything except kernel in flashtool after selecting the firmware.

You can NOT use Update Service after unlock. To re-lock, use http://yadi.sk/d/eagpLDsY1FWGW. I've tried it, and it works.
No you can't update through Sony with unlocked bootloader. That's where FTF files come in.

Please help!

I have the Xperia Z C6603 Vodafone Australia branded running firmware .350. I managed to root the device without unlocking the bootloader, that went well. However when I try flashing CWM I lost my navigation keys. Everything else works fines, but I have no navigation keys, so I'm using lmt launcher for the time being. Does anyone know how I can get my navigation keys back without losing all my data?
Also, I tried adding the stock navigation keys for android via editing the build.prop but when ever I try to edit it the phone reboots.
Can someone help please?

Doubt wiping data would replace the system.ui with the old one I had.

yes it would fix it if you boot into recovery and wipe data/cache...
look for this line in build.prop
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
delete it... the above line is what people use to take awy the soft key.
The reboot while editing is due to the root problem! Download v30 from bin4ry forum, reroot the device and you'll be fine editing build.prop

Bin4ry's tool doesn't work for that firmware version.
Do this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405
Follow the instructions carefully. It definitely works as I rooted the same firmware version with it myself.
If you have never used Flashtool before, here is a guide to setup drivers etc and flash - How to flash stock roms with Flashtool
Also, somebody may come in here and recommend that you use something called Kingo to root your phone. Personally, I don't trust it as there is no information on how it works or what it pushes to your phone, so keep that in mind.

Yep, you cannot see anything untoward, so it's completely fine!
I'm not saying that this Kingo app does anything bad, but do you think it would flash a notification toast up on screen saying "Please wait: Stealing your personal data" if it did?
I personally do not trust it and therefore will not recommend it to anybody over a method supplied by a trusted developer such as DooMLoRD, even if the process is one click and therefore foolproof.

Then download it again, open the zip file and find the home apk. I can't give you mine as I'm on an odexed rom.
