I may be wrong, but if we have the secure key, we can unlock the bootloader. What means that we don't have to wait until LG releases JB to begin playing with the kernel and the core of the ROM. And it also open the door to flash any custom ROM normally, due to it doesn't have to be singed to work
I'm so damm busy at work... I want to test the KDZ this afternoon ^^
I was trying to update to10h too, but I always get the error 0x13e and when it restarts is says that the "device is in rooting blah blah".
Do I have to remove completely root to be able to install it?

That wouldn't be so fun. If they unlock it like that, I don't get it why only EU phones? Is it possible that they will do something so other phones can't be unlocked?

Do you mean just disable supersu?
That doesn't work either
I'm thinking that it's checking if the root binary is on the disk, actually now that I think about it, the installation starts and at 2% fails with that error.
I'll try eventually by completely removing "su".

Probably, root can cause issues.

i had flashed v10a onto mine first as i had dexters CustoO4X-v0.1-OptimusEditon installed.
i could try downloading it and then send on,incase it is determed by imei or something similar to where in the world your phones from and its done that way.
one way i think you can do it is when you open the lgmobile support tool change your country to europe in the options and help tab. it will then search again for updates

My friend's phone gives a message "network unlock pin number is entered incorrectly. contact your service provider" when I try to put in the Network Unlock code. This means he's tried to unlock the phone too many times right? How would I go about using the Unfreeze code?
no, it just means the code is wrong
and needs a good code
you get a different message when the phone is "Frozen"

Problem is, it never gives him the chance to type in the code. As soon as you boot it up with a foreign SIM, it gives that message and on the bottom, theres only an "Emergency Call" button
Just tried flashing to JH3 and it still says "network unlock pin number is entered incorrectly. contact your service provider" upon booting up with a foreign SIM
Any ideas?

It's an AT&T Captivate. Two problems, 1) he bought it used, 2) AT&T won't unlock these for 10 months
My current theory is that the first owner already tried too many codes and froze the phone. However, as others have said, this isn't the "standard" freeze message? I've never seen the freeze message on a SGS so I don't know if this is really the problem
Any ideas?
Have the same problem
Did you manage to get it resolved?
If so, can you let me know the solution please...
Thanks,

same problem. help would be nice?
I would love to regain access to entering the unlock code but am unable.
HELP!
Even I have the same issue with my SGH-I897. Can somebody please help on this?
It is not prompting for any code and saying "network unlock pin number is entered incorrectly. contact your service provider". I have gone through so many forums, but looks like none could able to chase it.

Unlocking your phone.
--Why, when, where: If you bought your phone with a contract, chances are that it might be locked in that specific network. If you want to also use other SIM card in it, that are from another provider, you will have to unlock the phone (!! WARNING !! in most cases this will lead to a void warranty, please consult your contract).
--Prerequisites: Root privileges, adb.
8.1. Get the /efs/nv_data.bin file from your device to your computer. You can do this either with adb or by copying the file to your SD card with "Root Explorer" and then copying it over to your machine from the SD (Be sure to keep a backup of this file and the /efs/.nv_data.bin.md5 file.)
8.2. Open up the file in a hex editor, go to the address 0x181468, where you will see something like this:
FF 01 00 00 00 00 46 46 46...
We are interested in that first '01', that means the phone is locked. Just change it to '00' and save the file. Copy it back to your SD card and then with "Root Explorer" back to it's original location (or 'push' it directly with adb). Then remove the .nv_data.bin.md5 file and restart the device (Again, be sure to make copies of these files before modifying or deleting them!). After this, you should be able to insert any SIM card into your device and it should work without the need for any further hacks.

Worked for me, thanks a lot! Rooted using superoneclickroot then had to try 2 different hex editors and ended up finding adress 00181460 under which rhere was the FF 01 46 46 46... code. You know you're there when you see that. Followed instructions and my T959 running 2.2 is now unlocked. Thanks again!

i know some of you have this problem and worries that something wrong happend during the process of unlocking your phone. well that's the same thing i was thinking about 3 days now and trying to figure it out how to fix this. i just a noobie here and new for all this android thingy but i guess im just lucky fixing it.
by reading again the thread of how to unlock. it mention there that your phone might have a sim lock. this might be the problem so i search some thread related to this and guess what a found the answer!
now here's how to fix it.
1. after unlocking your phone using msm7227_setool2. check if you have network signal so you won't do the step 2 of this thread.
2. now if there's no signal, open again your msm7227 folder (which is the unlock bootloader tool) and you will see there's another tool which is ms7227_semc.
3. put to debugging mode then connect your usb to your PC.
4. run the ms7227_semc and wait till it done.
5. reboot your phone and you already have network signal again.
i hope that this help you specially for those who are new to this kind of stuff..

@mhieyato : if unlocking using msm7227_setool2 i put to debugging mode or NOT, if not to put debugging mode that tools can't running or stuck in " getting ROOT rights"...
Please explain step by step master...

As a wild guess I'd say you're not on Stock Kernel/ROM but some custom kernel/ROM.
Restore back to Stock Kernel/ROM.
EDIT: Oh wait, you're from the Unlocking Guide ... *should ID nicknames first*
Well, this can now be interesting to see if you can manage to unlock the boot loader again with nAa's Kernel flashed - as there's also no way to go back to Stock Kernel (through Flashtool, PCC, SEUS) while the boot loader is locked. :s
it works!
thanks a lot!

hi, i have a question about this fix, i unlocked a Xperia X8 (E15a) with octopus suite and then ''no service'' this post work for me? thanks for your help.
yey it worked for me.. after 1 year of giving up on my xperia, i found this post then i thoght why not give it a shot.. then boom it worked.. thanks for the post ^_^
Wow!! Thanks you have saved my phone from "no service" this thingy
yeah it really works!
I was about to put my phone in my garbage, thanks
Hiya guys,
I'm new to the Sony side of things, I'm usually a HTC user but my mother has just got herself an X8 E15i and I am having a few problems with it and was hoping people could help?
firstly, I rooted, UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, flashed a custom kernel (X8_v08a-cm7_Alfs_djnilse) & GingerZaraki-v05.
Then I had no signal at all, so I thought "ok, flash a newer baseband to attempt fix"
but alas, no joy.
I have then accidently relocked the bootloader :faceplant:
This has now caused her to have no signal... oops... arn't us teenagers great
and then I have read HERE that it is fixable, and I have followed the steps listed but I still can not get signal.
every time I run either script msm7227_semc.cmd OR msm7227_setool2.cmd they both get root, reboot, but still can not get signal.
EDIT: copy of cmd results...
"process requires standard 2.x android firmware.
Press any key to continue . . .
Getting ROOT rights.
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *

its obviously gettting root, but what does 'protocol fault: no status' mean?
and I know that the bootloader is locked because I have used "x8toolbox.final" which I found on here - I would give the maker of it the credit but can not remember who it was.
So at present my mother has a x8 e15i, running 2.1.1 but can't have signal at all??
EDIT1: please help or I think I am in trouble here...
EDIT2: Doesn't matter now guys, after soft-bricking and Hard-bricking (attempted bootloader unlock fail) the X8, I have resurrected it!
and I have successfully rooted (4th time tonight) and now I have flashed GingerDX, which is running great with the GingerDX O/C Kernel

In response to what you said, I have 3 Xperia X8's with the same issue but all were unrooted using superoneclick and then loaded gingerdx on them. They worked fine for about 2 months then on all 3 phones (friends) one by one they ended up accidentally putting their sim unlock pin code into the network unlock code thing that pops up on the gingerdx rom and all ended up with no signal at all.. I dont have seTool 2 pro only lite and i cant find any way to get the phone fixed. i live in southern Africa so limited resources etc.. PLEASE HELP

If you don't unlock the bootloader, then aNa Kernel is out of question! In unlocking your X8, check the date of manufacturing, and READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW the instructions to the dot! Then you are safe!

Well, you could try to be a wee bit more specific - let me remind you that we don't possess crystal balls to read your mind or read the error messages you got.
It would be nice to know WHAT error message you actually get when connecting the X8 in flash mode to unlock the bootloader.
Also, for as long as you didn't manage to hard brick your device ... restore the STOCK ROM through PCC or Flashtool (search this forum - there have been trillions of threads about it in the past few weeks) before attempting a bootloader unlock.
Of course you need to root your phone after you restored back to Stock so that bootloader unlock or recovery injection works.
EDIT: Once you successfully unlocked the bootloader while being on the Stock ROM you may then proceed to flashing miniCM AND the required kernel to make it boot (if you fail the kernel installation you need to restart from "restore Stock ROM" as there's no way out of the "Sony Ericsson" logo bootloop).

Let us investigate the error output in detail...
You launch Flashtool, you select to the unlock the boot loader and then you connect the USB cable of your X8 to the computer while HOLDING the back button and KEEPING it pressed?
If yes, and you get the error message ...
Ignore the error output for a moment and open the "Device Manager" (START -> "Computer" -> Right-click -> "Manage" ... in the window that opens now select "Device Manager" on the left).
Do you have the "SEMC Flash Device" showing up in the list of devices on the right WITHOUT a yellow or red warning sign (or is it even missing entirely)?
If you are missing any signs of the "SEMC Flash Device" in Device Manager your computer was unable to install the required driver. In this case you try to either install the Android drivers through "Gordon's Gate" (ggsetup-<version>.exe - comes with Flashtool) or you can download and install PC Companion which would also install the SEMC Android drivers.
As a further troubleshoot measure: Try another USB port OR another computer entirely. We already observed Windows installations giving troubles for unknown reasons - where it then worked out by using another computer/laptop.
Now let's see what your reply will be.

Hi B.Jay,
That's fantastic having your initiative idea and willing to investigate my problem. I really appreciate it. Please refer to below for my response:
- I have checked in "Device Manager", it is absolutely as you said there is a yellow sign near by "SEMC Flash Device". Then, I have follow your step to install both ggsetup-2.2.0.11 and PC Companion. However, the result seems no change.
In order to keep on track for your further finding what my problem really is, I would like to share you on my current x8 specification as below:
- Firmware version: 2.1 -update 1
- Basedband version: M76xx-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
- Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected]#1
- Build number: 2.1.1.A.0.6
- My X8 is rooted and has xRecovery
With above info, does it help you to identify how can/should I be able to unlock bootloader in order to flash kernel later? I believe you can HELP me on this.
Thanks.

hi,
I bought a X8 by mail delivery from the internet and got a bricked phone (so it seems)!
Symptom is phone doesn't connect to GSM network, and although i can scan for networks i can't connect to them. Tried several networks, same result. Everything else seems to work fine.
I'm completely newbie to Android phones, and only bought this one to try to avoid to stay behind, but this was a lousy way to start. I've been browsing through the forum, but there's too much info which only makes it more confusing to me.
I tried connecting the phone to S1tool and msm7227setool but i can't find the SEMC flash drivers, and although i browsed through the forum stickies for them i didn't find them.
So, my questions are:
1- Can someone provide a link to the drivers?
2- Is the following link the best way to solve my problem?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304258&highlight=no+network
3- I also want to debrand the phone, from the 360 apps i assume the phone is from vodafone. Can you recommend a fast ROM with full features support? And a good noob proof flash tutorial..
4- Will any of the above operations remove my SP unlock?
Sorry if most (or all) of this questions are a repetition of past threads, but starting with a phone this way, i honestly feel like a donkey looking at a palace! (Portuguese proverb, not sure you'll understand)
Thanks, Regards!

But, if i update the phone via PCC, won't i lose the sp unlock? I'm saying this cuz i read that the no network problem is due to sim lock protection.

sp unlock? You mean "SIM unlocked"?
No, you won't lose the unlocked SIM by simply flashing back to Stock through PC Companion (in case PCC tells you that there's no update available you need to resort to the Flashtool method).
As for the drivers ... best method would be to install PC Companion. However, if you don't want that crapware on your system I can upload you the drivers (out of PCC) in a ZIP - then you have to point Windows manually to the directory so it can find the appropriate driver (EDIT: shouldn't be much of a trouble if you're familiar with installing drivers by pointing Windows to the directory or the INF file).
The only situation where you might lose your SIM unlock is at unlocking the boot loader to enable installation of custom kernels, but before you head into that you better check the manufacturing date of your phone (sticker below the battery) and then look through this forum to work out if it's a candidate for hard bricking or not.

Errr... no. A "unsuccessful" boot loader unlock would turn your device into a hard brick (no lights, no vibration, no screen). As you're able to boot up into Android the bootloader and kernel seems to be intact.
IF the previous owner (in case you bought it used) tinkered around with boot loader unlocking ...
Use the s1tool to verify if the boot loader is locked or not. If it's unlocked simply follow the tutorial in the Development section to relock the boot loader or try the trick deedii posted about first (she had the same problem that GSM radio went dead after unlocking the boot loader).

Yes, the "R" means the boot loader is locked.
As for the mSD card ... here's where we enter "trouble reloaded":
- What card? Class? Size? Brand?
- Does the card hold any important data? If not try to reformat the card (FAT32!!!). If Android refuses to format the mSD simply use a card reader and re-format the mSD in Windows.
EDIT: Also, just to make sure everything's vanilla: could you please take a look into Settings -> About phone to confirm you're running the genuine SE baseband/kernel and not some custom kernel?
EDIT 2: Errrrrrrrr.... never mind ... I somehow misread "SIM card" as "SD card". My fault!

Yes, that's definitely the genuine baseband and kernel.
However, no matter how hard I think it through I don't see a good reason why it won't accept ANY SIM card, as a SIM unlock (or carrier/operator unlock if you want to put it that way) is as good as permanent unless you play around with unlocking the bootloader and either do something wrong or face the problem that it suddenly reverts back to the original SIM lock (in case it got unlocked and didn't ship unlocked by default).
The only problem I know about is ... if you live in a region where you would actually need a E15a baseband but happen to have the E15i baseband (you know, has to do with the frequencies that get used to transmit between your phone and the tower) flashed - or the other way around - you won't be able to connect to the GSM/3G network - but even then the phone won't reject the SIM card but simply fail to find any network.
In that case the problem resolve would be as easy as swapping out the baseband through flashing by Flashtool.
Good morning,
This keeps getting more and more confusing... thank god you've been such a valuable help BJ!
Dunno if it's "don't accept SIM" as much as don't recognize them.. I usually remove PIN codes from all my SIM's but today i've popped a new one to see if anything different happened.. The phone asked me for pin and validated it, but after this it doesn't recognize it anymore, i get a SIM with a red "!" on top of it in the upper right corner of the screen (same icon you get without SIM in phone).
As for all the other cards, it doesn't appear such icon, the phone starts normally and then asks for language and after asks to "insert SIM and restart phone"..
I don't think baseband is the problem, i think it's definitely related to SIM card reading.
NOTE: Before seemed irrelevant but now seems important to say, before, when i scanned for networks and tried to connect to one (same from SIM), phone gave me a message saying something like "your SIM card doesn't allow connecting to this network".
The problem seems to be definitely SIM card reader, the big doubt is if it's HW or SW.
My best guess is SW, because he can read PIN's but then just locks.. Where is the SIM card reader "driver"? baseband, kernel, ROM? should i try to update all those?
Thanks again!
hello again,
i found this in SETool forum which seems to be exactly my problem.
E15i - (x8) it doesn't read sim card and hangs during unlocking
I've had a problem with XPERIA X8 (E15i) for a long time now and I can't fix it.
I was trying to unlock it. I updated Android to v. 2.1. I have credits, I turn on debugg mode, I installed drivers. I push 1,2,5 and press Unlock/Repair.
Unfortunately it didn't finish, the program froze and switched off (on Vista). It took 5 credits. After turning it back on it wouldn't log to the network, even though it saw the network. But it shows that the phone is unlocked. By Setool I installed the version form after the update. After that it stopped detecting the sim card.
In hosting I read that I should repeat the unlock. I reinstalled the drivers, downloaded setool's previous version (v1.1106), but the program hangs every time in the same place and it doesn't go to the end (see screen below). With v1.1107 there's the same problem. I tried on Vista and XP – no difference. I installed setool on my other computer, where there are no boxes, drivers or antiviruses and still I couldn't succeed.
Does anyone have some expirience with the x8?
Thx in advance for help.

Sim toolkit is on every phone, not only on vodafone
Been reading more and more, and this seem to be a very common issue in SETool SIM unlocking. can anyone suggest a solution?
Thanks.
Hello again,
I've been trying to run msm7227 setool2 and semc, but seem to be getting nowhere.. enters debugging mode and nothing else. What am i doing wrong?
Also, i've read in the following thread that sometimes boot is unlocked and S1tool says it's locked, but i can't find SEUS to download anywhere in the forum..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404148&highlight=sim+card
HEEELLP!!!
Thanks.
Hi, madz ...
To pull it together:
- The "SIM reader" is a software that comes as a part of Android in the form of a system app (inside /system/app). You can't exchange the related parts as they are specific to the Android version, in case your thoughts are running into this direction.
- The problem with "SEtool" is more like this ...
Let us assume the phone was originally SIM locked (bound to only allow SIMs of a specific operator/carrier) and then got SIM unlocked. The original SIM lock will jump back into place once the the boot loader got unlocked.
My observation is that this problem should actually go away once the boot loader got re-locked again. That being said I also read various threads where the SIM lock didn't vanish and the phone had to be unlocked anew.
On another note, it also depends on how the phone got unlocked ... there's a difference if it got SIM unlocked through SEtool or through Omious (<-- I hope it's spelled right)
The one fact that remains: simply querying the boot loader status ("R" vs "r") does not make the SIM lock to fire.
- SEUS ... well ...
I found Update Service (SEUS) 2.11.10.7 in the depths of my hard drive. Going to slap it on MultiUpload for you in a minute - though I can't guarantee that it still works; all I know is that SEUS got discontinued (or something along that line). Wait for the edit of the download!
EDIT: MultiUpload swallowed the file --> Download link

Shouldn't you connect the phone in flash mode instead of USB-Debugging mode?
Flash Mode means:
- Pull the USB cable out of your computer but leave it attached to the phone
- Turn the phone OFF
- Start the software
- Press the Back button and connect the USB cable to the computer
KEEP THE BACK BUTTON PRESSED UNTIL THE PHONE IS RECOGNIZED!
(Note: Windows may want to install the "SEMC Flash Device" driver)
Hi BJ,
The phone is not locked! it accepts pin from all networks, but after this, simply doesn't read the cards anymore. I only talked about this because the thread i found in SETOOL forum explains in detail what's happening to me.
I dunno if what happens to people who have no network or sim locked due to bad boot loader unlock is the same or not. It would be nice to know, but in my thread no one except you steps up.
If unlocked, i believe it's SETool and not Omnius because i only see threads with this issue in SETool support (dozens of complains) and found nothing in Omnius.
I still believe that maybe there's a solution other than unlocking it again, but due to inexperience i fail to see it.
about msm7227: i'm sorry, i meant flash mode, and it detects the phone, sometimes.. but always hangs in 2nd line (can't remember what said, but i'll try it again in a while and post here).
Where exactly is the phone unlocked? ROM, kernel, baseband? Do you think re-flashing it could solve the problem?
Thanks again friend!
Regards.

My X8 came SIM unlocked by default. Since it's old enough, and therefore safe for boot loader unlocking, I gave it a try (even been as daring as to unlock while having GDX v021 flashed).
Connected and checked with s1tool that it's suited for unlocking: Pass
Unlocked the boot loader: Pass
Booted up (SIM does not have PIN1 set)...
Connecting to the GSM Network: Pass
Connecting to the APN for 3G Internet access: Pass
Reboot (to make sure it didn't brick): Pass
Re-locked boot loader: Pass
Checked with s1tool that boot loader is locked: Pass
Device still able to connect to GSM/3G: Pass
I didn't try to flash a custom kernel but just stayed with the stock kernel. During the whole testing scenario - from unlocking to re-locking - I didn't have any problems with GSM/3G network connectivity or troubles reading the SIM.
Like I wrote above the PIN1 check was disabled because sometimes GingerDX shows the "Network unlock" screen after inputting the PIN ... that's more-or-less a bug workaround.

If unlocked, i believe it's SETool and not Omnius

Thank you for correcting the spelling of "Omnius" ... I was typing it from the top of my head and failed to recall how it's spelled.

Where exactly is the phone unlocked? ROM, kernel, baseband? Do you think re-flashing it could solve the problem?

If you refer to "how is the SIM lock lifted" then I think the best persons to answer this question are the guys who cracked the boot loader. I don't know enough about how the low-level init of the phone really works ... the boot loader guys aren't very chatty about telling us how the low-level boot of the X8 works.
Since, in my case, the SIM unlock prevails when flashing a custom ROM on top of the stock kernel (keep in mind I never flashed a custom kernel, so I never altered the "baseband" partition) the unlock can't reside in the ROM partitions.
But ... as the problem only arises when tinkering around with the boot loader but didn't affect my phone during boot loader unlock / re-lock ... and this is now purely guessing ...
The boot loader unlock only replaces the boot loader binary with a altered one. So if the thing that tells the phone that it's SIM unlocked resides in the part of the NAND where the boot loader / kernel / baseband is located it can only be a digital certificate or some sort of a binary that gets loaded through "Stage 1" init (during which the boot loader and kernel gets loaded and all the security checking stuff happens). It can't be in the higher init routines where the initialized kernel is boot strapping the ROM as that would disable the SIM unlock when flashing a custom ROM.
If blagus or the kernel devs have some ideas it would be great to read a few lines from a source knowing about the low-level init routines (to actually understand how the X8 comes to life once the power button is pressed).
On another thought ... the msm7227 CPU also must have some kind of firmware (think of it similar to a BIOS like a PC has) to init itself and the hardware ... maybe the SIM unlock is somewhere in there?
EDIT: On a third thought ... it would seem almost logical that the SIM unlock stuff is stored somewhere in the "security" related part of the NAND (somewhere deep down at the low-level init). If the phone came locked and got unlocked at some point the original SIM lock will most likely spring back into place at boot loader unlocking - so the SIM locked/unlocked thingy has to be somewhere in the low-level boot init; otherwise it wouldn't disable a "soft unlock" once the boot loader got unlocked and replaced past the cracked one which bypasses a whole lot of the security checks so unsigned boot binaries (kernel) can be loaded and executed.
I posted this earlier, and received some help from oohaylima. I had to take some time off and it got away from me, but I still need help. I've read through hours of info. here but haven't been able to find an answer. A few posts were close, but the links they provided were broken or the pages they referred to had been taken down.
1. Since I can only access the phone via wifi, can I still rescue the phone, or can I do that using the SD card only (the links were no good in the post similar to this,)?
2. Since this last post, I did reset the phone holding the Home and Power buttons, now I get an error code 67 whenever I turn it on. Something concerning a User name and Password for a sprint account.
3. The phone won't activate with my Boost Mobile account, I can not place or receive calls with it.
4. My experience so far is limited to rooting a couple of phones and installing CM ROM's through instructions and guides here at xda and at the CM forum.
5. I would like to be able to flash CM onto the phone, not the stock version it came with.
To save time I have copied the last post here...
"I bought a second hand Sprint Hero cdma. ($12.50) It had the stock ROM, but also had BusyBox Pro and Superuser installed. Upon checking, su wasn't working, and BBPro gave a message that the phone was improperly rooted. Upon checking with RootChecker v 1.3 I got the following info from the table:
SU
su found
{/system/bin/, /system/xbin/}
Root Access
no access
UID/GID
uid=10084(app_84)
gid=10084(app_84)
group=3003(init)
UNIX UTILS

/system/bin/toolbox
PATH
/system/xbin
/system/sbin
/sbin
//system/bin
Root Check Lite gave the message:
Your phone is rooted.
Your phone does not have superuser access.
I tried to root it again with superoneclick but it hung up on the second line. I then discovered that the phone won't connect via USB to mount the phone. My WIN 7, 64 bit HP won't read anything from it except wirelessly via Wondershare MobileGo. But, it does charge okay. (I have an old Samsung Conquer which functions okay via USB on my PC.)
The Firmware version, etc., is as follows:
Firmware: v 2.1 update 1
Baseband:v 2.42.02.10.29
Kernel: v 2.6.29.-ba77cfo3
[email protected] #1
Build: 2.32.651.2.CL282911 release-keys
Software: 2.32.651.2
PRI v: 2.65_003
PRL v: 11117
EDIT
I guess I am asking how do I re-root properly...or un-root then re-root. "
Thanks in advance to oohaylima and all,
Mike
What is needed is to flush the phone and start from scratch. What's your status on this now? I know it's been a couple of weeks.

I would still like to go thru with it when things on your end get under control.
Thanks for your message, I was hoping nothing too serious was going on with you!
