[Q] Help with ICS Update - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

I've been trying for several days to get this ICS update on my tab and nothing works. Kies just sit there "connecting..." forever and times out. Maybe 1out of 5 tries will connect but when i go to perform the upgrade it doesn't work properly and just crashes. So I went the other route, i tried manually loading the firmware using Odin but nothing ever happens. I get everything lined up, and odin recognizes the device but then just sits at a "setup connection" screen forever.
This is a fresh installation of Windows 7 64. That I just installed 2 weeks ago. I'm a computer tech so I know my system is running good. I don't have this issue with my Galaxy S2.
Can someone help me? I'm pretty much lost. I tried reinstalling all the drivers and it still doesn't work. Sometimes when i connect the tablet windows doesn't recognize the hardware ID. Also, this is a freshly factory restored tablet that has never been modified. Brand new, tablet works fine.
I can't post pics because im new

Try a different computer. The tab is real touchy. It's recognized on my laptop but not my desktop.

Otherwise flash my V6.1 it is based on the ics for P7300/P7310
Andd it is easier to flash
Guide:
- flash cwm with odin (only if you don't have it yet)
- download the rom
- boot to cwm and flash it
- wipe data cache dalvik cache

but he has an i957. He'll brick with your rom. Or he's flashing the wrong rom with Odin.

he didn't say that

I was able to get it working! Brought it into my work and reinstalled Kies on that computer and re-ran the update and it took. Not sure why it wasn't working on my home system. fresh install and brand new mobo with current usb drivers. Oh well. I'm pretty sure the Device Id was the main issue. Looks like i've got some troubleshooting on my end at home.
Thanks for the support guys! I'll be back looking to get my GS2 I727 rooted.:good:

off topic but does anyone know how i can get my tablet to charge from usb connected to the computer? its really annoying.

It sounds like you have an issue with the usb cable or the usb connection on the tab. It should charge when connected to your pc.

The tablet requires about 1A or 1,000 mA to charge. A desktop can supply about 500mA of current. If you turn your Tablet completely off, it will charge slowly... I often charge this way overnight when my Tab is docked. If the Tablet is turned on, it may draw down the battery almost as fast as the USB port can supply the current, so it will generally charge very slowly if at all. It depends on how bright the display is and whether WI-Fi and Bluetooth is on. The other caveat is some USB hubs and some laptops can not supply the USB specified 500mA so then it will not charge. A rule of thumb, if you have a USB hub that splits one port into many and it does not have it's own power supply, it will not supply anywhere near 500mA. So in summary... if you hook up to a primary USB port on a desktop, it will charge slowly. Otherwise, it may not.

Charging problem.

Sometimes when I plug my captivate into the wall charger, my captivate thunks that its a computer so it says USB connected and USB debugging.
Then I would unplug and then plug again and it would work normal.
This started to annoy me so is there a fix to this problem? Btw I'm running darky 9.2.

Try flashing a different kernel, see if it changes anything.
Remember to backup just in case

Is it the factory charger?
Usually its output related.... cause USB typically puts out 500-550ma and the wall charger I believe is 700-750ma.

[SOLVED] Usb charging/port problem

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my incs lately, it WILL ONLY charge on any mode other than charge only... That means I can only charge it using a computer on either usb tether/usb storage. (When its in USB Storage, I can read my SD card from my computer)
The problem come when i tried to try the USB host using the Y cable, I think i messed up somewhere. The phone thinks that there is a data session running INTO my device, and to make things worse, I set my USB to PC connection to Disk Drive by default. After I unplug the device from the Y cable the Disk Drive symbol still exist and the led (orange) still lighting up. I connect it to the charger and plug off, it seems to turn off the disk mount and led. However after that point, I can't never charge using charger/usb charge only. (Its a flash drive and a 5VDC power source on the other end of the Y cable if you are wondering)
I have tried flashing different ROMs, even charge when the device is off, charge in recovery, and wipe battery status. None works.
So... For now I think I fried the USB controller, so can anyone suggest any solution? HW replacement or a SW that will make the phone think all plug that goes to the microusb is a data? or any other?
Thank you in advance
What kernel/mod are you using for USB host?

Well, I failed using it, I was using ARHD, and there was no USB host capability.
Can someone suggest what the problem might be? Is it just the port or something deeper? If its just port, thank god this spare part is avaiable

Or its the controller

You can change what it defaults to, can't you? Change it to charge only mode. How is your device unlocked and have you done any other mods?
I can assure you its not something to do with the mod/software. Currently the phone cant be charged t all unless you charge the battery separately.
I think when i plug a charger , the current goes in reverse direction, making it discharge even faster, rather than charging

That's actually not possible, but you may have a charger issue. Have you tried another one?

What is wrong with my Galaxy Tab

Hi everyone, first things first I have already read through the various threads on this subject but there doesn't seem to be any consistent advice/suggestions with my specific problem. I was trying to flash a custom ROM on my tablet and I don't know whats happened but the net result is that my tablet won't turn on and it only shows any signs of life when it is plugged in to the wall charger where you see the clam-shell style cell phone connecting to a computer screen but its flashing rather than constant (the forum won't let me post the youtube clip thats out there demonstrating this but google 'Samsung Galaxy Tablet Bricked' and if the first video that appears).
If its connected to my laptop then it doesn't charge at all and the laptop doesn't recognise the tablet at all so I can't re-flash stock firmware via Odin.
I have had it on charge using the wall charger for over 12 hours now and yet there still seems to be no life in it and I've tried all the various combinations of power + volume down button etc
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can sort it. Am I right in thinking that as it at least shows some signs that its not dead when you plug it in at the wall, that its not completely bricked?
Any help at all is greatly appreciated and apologies for going over old ground.

Does Odin see it? Computer may not recognize tablet but odin/heimdall should.

Otherwise, send it to this site, they claim that they will repair full bricked tabs

No even Odin doesn't recognise it. Haven't tried Heimdall though.
Its now been on charge for about 2 days and yet if you unplug it from the wall it doesn't turn on/respond to anything.
Boot into download mode before connecting to pc. Then open odin or heimdall. Use the latest versions.

the tab is that dead that I cannot boot it at all, let alone in download mode. If I unplug it from the wall charger it doesn't respond to anything. Completely impossible to do the above.
well my friend you have the same problem of another member in xda, i dont remember where i read about it, but am pretty sure that your battery is completely dead, it shows the same thing, when plugged to wall you can boot into download mode, once unplugged, you can't access to anything. In his case, he tried to charge it for a day, and then the tab turned on, he thought that the tab is alive again, so he tried to flash it, after 3 minutes, the tab went off again before the operation complete, and now his tab is fully bricked.
yours still alive, i think that it is soft brick, or not bricked at all, but your battery is dead, and you can't do anything without a working battery, if you have enough skills to change the battery, get one form the net, and you can also make sure that the battery is the problem when you open it, you can connect it to a stabilized power supply with the needed voltage and current, if it turns on, your battery is indeed the problem, if not, we should think about something else.
good luck my friend, i hope i helped a little.
edit : i fond it

this is exactly the same problem you have, read all the thread, before you do anything more harmful to your tab.

[Q] Captivate shuts down when USB plugged in

The only similar question had no answers, so I'm going to give it another shot.
My wife's Captivate (Froyo, rooted) has suddenly developed a nasty habit of powering off whenever the USB cable is connected. The instant the cable is inserted the phone goes black. Unplug the cable, press "power" and the phone boots up fine.
1. She swears she didn't do anything (like dropping it) to cause the problem. And there doesn't appear to be any physical damage around the port.
2. The problem isn't limited to a single cable, and the phone used to work with all the cables tested,
3. While plugged in, the phone will not turn on but the battery will charge.
4. The phone works fine when unplugged.
5. Wiggling/torquing the connector has no effect.
-edit- 6. The phone doesn't die unless the standard USB end of the cable is connected. Just connecting a loose cable to the phone has no effect.
Any thoughts?
Since u posted edit 6.....maybe it is the usb port u r plugging into. Try another port or another pc, etc. Just thinkin process of elimination.

Thanks for the reply, but we can eliminate that. No matter what's on the other end--computer, charger, etc--it kills it.
Try a different battery, if ya got one. May be goin bad and then when u plug in the usb the voltage change triggers something. Idk...just guessin.
But it really sounds like the problem lies with the phone's micro usb port bein bad.

Whatever the problem was, it was fixed by updating from froyo to stock gingerbread.
Good deal. And thx for lettin us know that ya got it fixed.

Help reviving a tab

Trying to revive a tab that got out of juice.
The tab stopped charging, possibly due to a faulty cable. It got depleted and no longer show signs of working.
There's no indication of charging. I am using a working cable (new). kept it plugged over night. The PC won't recognize it. Its apparently in APX mode.
I've installed nvflash and nvidia drivers.
But what to do now.
Any attempt of any nvflash command results with:
Version 0x4
Command sending failed (USB write error)
Can someone advise?
I don't have any of the bootloader files and etc.
Just have the files from the 'one stop guide' but I can't use Odin, the tab is in APX mode and won't snap out of it.

The tab doesn't charge quickly via usb. Plug it into the wall charger that the tab came with. It has to be the original Samsung charger, as other wall usb chargers don't have enough amps.

I had it overnight with the wall charger.
It's an official one, for 10.1, and before I also tried with the original 8.9 but I got to APX mode only with the 10.1 cable and charger.
My main problem is that I have no nvflashables for 8.9 and besides that it won't write to usb .
It's a GAME OVER, right?
