Update to ICS - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have recently downgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.6, to unlock my phone because of a prevoius incident that required me to insert a Network Unlock Code.
I had to pay $50 to get it unlocked. It should be permanent, right?
Nope.
After my downgrade to gingerbread i updated it via OTA, which locked my phone again.
I would really like to upgrade to ICS any suggestions on how to do that? While keeping my unlocked status.

Have you tried galaxy s unlock or galaxy sim unlock from the playstore?

I have used the galaxy s unlock in gingerbread and i want to uograde to ics. But when i updated via an ota it relocked.

Yes. Use it again on ics. Or the other app I mentioned. One works . If the phone is locked, use it. If it's unlocked and you want to take chances, go ahead.

I updated via Mobile Odin with Evaroot as well. It worked fine and i also installed the galaxysim unlock and it worked!
After updating to ICS i got another little update but when i install it reboots into recovery i think and shows the little android with the spinny cog. Then it suddnly reboots and says update has failed. Try the PC software (Kies).
Any suggestions?

If you are rooted and have a different kernel ota will not work

OMG $50 ?so u should request for update as well.
if later flash again still lock that's is ur luck.
now u can flash it via Mobile odin or using kies to update that's all.
---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:27 PM ----------
i think u should use a latest safe kernal >PhilZ-cwm6 n do a efs backup incase accidentally lock again
find out ur version n install safe kernal from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

Cannot OTA update to .4**

Hey guys I have a problem again, I wish to update my device to 4.2.2 via OTA however,
My bootloader is LOCKED and "Allowed: NO" and I am rooted, but when I try to update it says it fails and can't. Is this because I am rooted?..if so can anything be done about it. If I can't mod the phone with un-unlockable bootloader I wanna update it atleast

you can't downgrade, update does not let you go backwards. However if you have a Dev edition and its unlocked you can root it very easily. Fastboot TWRP to it. Then boot into TWRP and flashed SuperSu 1.65 *.zip. Just run a search on Google and you'll find a link to SuperSU the *.zip you need
Edit: here is the thread for SuperSU

just reading and curious--with an unlocked BL you can't use the fxz file to flash to an older version? couldn't you first flash the old boot loader and then try the fxz file though rsdlite. if that doesn't work couldn't you just flash all of the images separately?

Nope not even a unlocked Dev edition can go fully backwards. Once bootloader is updated it will not pass the checks when flashing trying to go back. I know because I just brain farted the other day flashing my unlocked HD i was selling and tried flashing with the wrong file. However depending on what needs to be flashed you can in some cases flash a specific partition from older an older software build like i did to restore my botched job on the HD.

On my HD i did, and I know the X you can as well currently. Whether that holds true moving forward once 4.3 hits is a different story. In my case messing aroudn its alwasy been the same Android version when flashing something older.
As for the X depending on how you go about updating the X before the full fastboot was posted yesterday if you wanted root you did in fact need to use the old (original stock) kernel to fastboot over the recovery once the OTA was installed.

Do you have in fast boot any tampered or unlocked messages.
Are you missing the flashlight app and the other 3 apps that have to be on your phone for the ota to flash.

Well when i instaled the guru reset i had to lock the bootload so i asume it has returned recovery to stock, if not what can u do anyway?
And yes im missing the flashlight, but i didnt notice other missing apps.
Well, the guru is an ruu, i tried with the .exe ruu but didnt work, maybe coz i was an earlier version i think.
Did u put your phone into ruu flashing mode there is a guide on here how to do this. Straight away missing flashlight app will stop the ota.

if you want to get your bootloader to say LOCKED, not relocked, then you will have to go S-Off. otherwise your phone will say RELOCKED at best.
you can check my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082

U can try flashing a stock recovery as well.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.IMG
Extract it from a stock update zip.
I can not see y it is not working. Plenty of them in original development section also guru reset as well.
Do a step by step of what you have done.

Unable to update AT&T Galaxy S5 to Lollipop on stock Touchwiz

I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 that has the default version of Touchwiz on it, with Android 4.4.2. I never rooted or flashed any roms on this device, yet I am unable to get OTA updates.
My friend, who has the same phone with AT&T, updated to Lollipop a while ago, and recently got another update, both of which I didn't get. Whenever I check for updates on my phone, under the About Device section in system settings, it says "Software Update Interrupted. No update is available for your device at this time. Please try again in 24 hours."
What can I do to update my device to Lollipop?
Thanks,
Sid
Do not update your phone with the OTA muniz_ri has all the files you need to flash your phone and keep root if you upgrade with the OTA you will be locked down and never able to root your phone. Just search ...

Bought an ATT galaxy s5 , bootloader was locked, what build no is the easiest to root

I see an OC5 on swappa. Can I root and update to OF3 securely with this? What is the least time consuming to root?
When you root it let me know i have the at&t s5 on lollipop been told its unrootable

I used one click root for the root. But the bootloader stays locked on at&t s5, so their are two options that i know of. One, use odin and the correct tar to unlock it which is risky, or use an app called safestrap. Thats what I did.

Stonecold. I believe you have to revert back to 4.4.2 to root. But it can be done.

revert my phone to what? Your language is very ambiguous.
If you didn't have root before OTA 5.0 (Lollipop) you can't go back, you can't use safestrap, can't use Odin AND CANT ROOT YET. A locked loader won't allow you to use Odin to flash, and no root means can't get safestrap.. 1 click root only works before OTA 5.0 UPDATE. There is always a way but not yet.

There are a few threads on here how to get root, then upgrade to lollipop and keep root. Then you can still use safestrap to change loaders and roms. Safestrap just simply interupts the boot sequence(before the loader). I'm guessing once you upgrade, your loader will be locked also, so to change anything you'll have to have a back up on safestrap with the previous version, and unlocked loader... so you can go back and forth. I'm not sure of everything possible since my lazy ass never got root access before the update, so I'm sol for now. I'm planning on getting a new phone soon and giving this s5 to my wife anyway.

Safestrap because it comes before the bootloader? Why not TWRP? Does twrp not come before the bootloader? Man I don't want anything to have to do with bootloaders again 3 years of solid rooting and dev experience and two GS3s in one day to ****ing updating the bootloader

Bootloader is and has been locked, safestrap was the only recovery we had because it wasn't a traditional recovery in the sens that it didn't replace the stock one. With lollipop it broke, if you downgrade your kernel you can get it to work, but other than that you have to use flashfire which is not a recovery but simply a flashing tool. Twrp and any other recovery will not work, and any non-touchwiz based roms(aosp, aokp, cm) will not work, you have to use only touchwiz based ones and no custom kernels.
