alexmbaye,
Sorry for the delayed response, we have been buried. Here is a copy of both vpndialogs.odex and vpndialogs.apk - you can download the Zip file to your desktop, then Unzip it, next move vpndialogs.odex and vpndialogs.apk to /system/app - be sure to check the permissions: User: Read Write Group: Read and Others: Read
We have also attached copies to this thread - Vpn.zip includes vpndialogs.odex and vpndialogs.apk. The vpndialogs.odex file was renamed to vpndialogs.doc so we could upload it to XDA, just download vpndialogs.doc and change the name to vpndialogs.odex - we were able to keep the name of vpndialogs.apk. The easiest solution is to download the Vpn.zip and unzip it.

many thanks

alexmbaye,
Now I get it! You can also use a Proxy Server - there are several flavors that do the same trick, usually have higher bandwidth too. What provider do you use to get the US IP? I ask since we get this request all the time.

App for viewing office files?

Anyone know of a FREE app which allows you to view office files, specifically .docs?
Thanks.
I believe quickoffice allows you to view them, but no editing.
Here is a copy of the apk from Flipz zip package of removed apks, just push to your /system/app folder.

Fantastic! It does work!
Finally, The Arabic fonts are connected properly every where in my device.
I actually did a little investigation a while back when I noticed a lot of people are crediting Arabic fixes using this method to themselves while it seems the oldest thread was posted by an American user named "madmack" here at XDA, but I did not understand his installation instructions.
So props to you for referring the credits to it's rightful owner and many many thanks.

It makes alot of difference if you put the wrong permissions , it has to be 775 or as the pic of the choices of permissions show (it has to be exact) , maybe try one more time and lets us know, as i don't want to mess up my 1.8.3 right now

Do you have a link for a working apk? The last one I found and installed always force closed everytime I tried to use the program.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App.
Actually I found one by Googling "Polaris office apk". I think the link was at a site called sinful android or something like that. The zip file included the apk and a couple of library files that needed to be placed in the system/lib folded with root explorer.
It worked for me, but the first spreadsheet I opened didn't work well because it was a protected sheet with some cells that should have been editable. However, I couldn't edit the document at all.
Documents to Go works fine in this regard, so I probably won't be using Polaris office.
here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13992153&postcount=206
is there a version of Polaris that can connect to Google docs?
i have pushed the files to system/lib and installed the APK with no luck. Looking foe help with this
In my opinion, Polaris Office is not good as Quick office HD or officesuite!

If you're rooted you can use Root Explorer to do this. It's soooo much easier, this easier to re-try, etc.

What does Polaris lack over Quickoffice HD? I'm asking this out of interest as I'm currently using QuickOffice HD, but Polaris looks good to me. So can you please tell me before I download and try Polaris?

Up top in RE, see where it says Mount R/W - switch to Mount R/O by touching it. When you've placed your files down in that area, switch it back to Mount R/W.

Mobile Hotspot modded to skip provisioning check (VZW)

Hi all. I have obtained a modded version of the Mobile Hotspot provisioning for Verizon. This should let you use hotspot without paying VZW for the feature that is free to any non-VZW rom users..
TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION: I am NOT the original developer of this mod. I was directly contacted by the modder who wished to remain anonymous due to the potentially grey legal area of a mod such as this.
Suffice to say that I am not stealing credit, and that I am posting it specifically to act as a shield to the original dev, as per their request. If I need to give a name to avoid flak, then I'll just remove the post rather than break my promise.
UPDATE: The mods are OK with this posrt for now, unless anything happens. So for now it's staying up.
Anywho. Download the file, backup and remove HotspotProvision.apk and HotspotProvision.odex from /system/app/ And then drag in this copy of the apk. Put it's permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot.
You should now be able to set up your mobile hotspot.
I am posting this from my tethered computer
HotspotProvision.apk (98 KB)
Note that I DID NOT CREATE THIS.
If this for some reason is not allowed on here, please let me know and/or delete the post.
Works like a charm, thanks.

I used root explorer. Renamed files to hotspotprovision.old and hotspotprovisiono.old. Copied in the the apk file, set permissions. About to go on a road trip and this was much needed.
Hooray!

highly doubted. Worst case scenario is it wont work and you get a charge for the tethering fee. But that isn't the case. If you're worried, wait for AOSP of some flavor with built in tethering

Nice....Thank you for posting this. OP post instructions were perfect. The one thing I am noticing about all these mods is that the OP are telling people to delete these original files, when all you have to do is rename them if you don't want to back them up or are nervous about deleting them. Again, thank you!!
