I managed to get my phone rooted; here's what I did:
Requirements:
Unlocked bootloader
Flashtool
Your applicable 9.1.A.0.490 FTF file (I used Singapore version)
boot.img from latest KXP
Latest SuperSU
Guide:
Flash phone to official 9.1.A.0.490
Flash boot.img in Fastboot
Boot normally, enter recovery and install UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.0.4.zip
Power off phone after installing, then re-flash 9.1.A.0.490, but flash only kernel!
Start normally and check root access!
(I wrote this in a hurry, and I assume you know how to use Flashtool, boot into Flashmode/Fastboot mode and navigate in recovery! Not newbie friendly, so caution is advised!)
Testing
Edit: Any way to extract boot.img from stock FTF?

Just flash stock FTF and check all boxes in the Exclude section to exclude system, etc., and leave kernel unchecked.

Thought it would be easier so we can just download the kernel not the whole firmware. Also here's the kernel for KXP. You don't have to download the whole rom anymore. KXP Kernel

how to flash the stock JB kernel only? I have the full FTF file, but how to flash kernel(.sin) seperately?
or maybe you can converte a boot.img version and upload it?
The question I would hate to ask you is your mobile bravia & download music info working or the drm keys are lost again as I would like to know as I rather wait to root through locked bootloader as all the problem was fixed when I relock and updated to JB via pc companion and I will not unlock my smartphone again?

1: You don't have to quote the whole thing.
2: You can flash this by unchecking everything except kernel in flashtool after selecting the firmware.

You can NOT use Update Service after unlock. To re-lock, use http://yadi.sk/d/eagpLDsY1FWGW. I've tried it, and it works.
No you can't update through Sony with unlocked bootloader. That's where FTF files come in.

Not quite that simple.
You need you need to extract the system.sin from the ftf.
Follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723284
However, instead of using unyaffs, i dump the .sin as an .ext4 and use ext2explorer to browse within it.

Should be, try and it and see. I think it may depend on which app it is...I have not added apps to an ftf before without replacing them with the ones already there and changing the names to the ones I have replaced.
I know this is very old topic, but would like to know if anyone succeeded in doing this?

Just out of interest, when an FTF file becomes available, could you then flash it with flashtool on a stock ICS locked bootloader?
Judging by past firmware updates, it's taken 2/3 months for Orange to push an update.
Yes, or you could flash the 303 generic UK and ota to current. You'll then get jelly when Sony says not ee.

Sorry but you've got that wrong, you can use flashtool to flash an official ftf onto a phone with a locked bootloader, I've done it loads of times with my xperia's. In essence if your locked to a network orange, t-mobile ect then you can get the region generic ftf and flash it with flashtool to debrand your phone
What you can't do is flash custom ROMs which require a custom kernel.

Thanks for the responses guys, I thought it would be possible, the only reason I ask is that I've flashed ICS firmwares to the T in the past, but wasn't sure with it being a different version of the OS.

Not always, there are ways around it. But in general yes.
Once the new firmware hits users with locked bootloaders we will see if we lose root, but then we will also find a way to root the newfirmware or find a way to update that does not lose root.

No, if you flash FW via flashtool, the root is lost.
I think you should :
1. Back up ur app by titanium backup.
2. Download 4.1.2 stock FW LT30at from HERE
3. Download newest 4.3 Unbrand and flash it via flash tool (u must choose exclude baseband)
4. Root it by my tool
5. Restore app
If root fail at 4.3, u can flash 4.1.2 stock then root and restore app. Good luck

dear a_new_day, i was wondering if you would have a 'tool' for Xperia V (LT25i). I was searching the forums for a version that would work on my newly installed FM 9.2.A.1.199, JB 4.3. Your thread came up and I was hopeful but I read through it and it's for Xperia T :crying:
as of present I haven't yet found a working one for the new FM. I hope that DoomLord will soon come to the rescue...
thanks for whatever help/thread/link you can give. it's my only way to tweak the phone so as to increase the LIMIT number on SMS sent.
