I have tried so many things to get google contacts on my 7", to no avail. I would love to be able to manage them from my kindle directly, and not have the amazon contacts app that needs registration with amazon. Not no way, not no how am I doing that.

Can you elaborate a bit more, please? What version of Dolphin HD are you running? How did you access the apps tab from there?
Which image did you use for rooting?
The new Nooter image (2.12.15 released 14/Dec/2010) does all of these things for you. If you re-read the isntructions on Nook Devs you will see this spelled out for you.........
Interesting. The page must have been updated after I rooted. Very good tablet fr the price. May just reyurn my galaxy tab.

So are you saying that you actually used the new auto-nooter-2.12.15? And that you didn't sign into YouTube, then sync Gmail before firing up the Market?
I don't think I used the new version after all. I certainly did not follow the new steps. I had an existing account from my tab somaybe that made the difference. If there is any wayto tell which autonooter I am usingg I can check that. It was very sttage because at first I got an error message when connecting to marketplace directly but I was ableto getthere jsing the apps link from dolphin hd.

I'm new to Android, but the contacts app really sucks.
I can't update contacts uploaded from a vcard file.
Can't see addresses.
Coming from Palm, this is much less useful.
Anybody got a better app?

I am running CM7 stable, but do remember having issues with stock several months ago. There are some workarounds to get things going. Look at these two links. There are several options to attempt. The Navdress Book worked for me. Good luck.

The stock Contacts app is not intended for anything except using with the stock B&N apps. It does not sync against Google etc... It's pretty much useless IMO. It's not the same app you'd see on any standard Android installation, as they would all use your Google account to sync etc.
In order to get contacts in the stock NC ROM for the purposes of sending emails etc, there are various kludges. It's one of a handful of limitations of the stock ROM.

I begin to see the light! Thanks, guys!
I must mention that the (B&N) Contacts app did load up my contacts from Google, even though it didn't show all of the info.

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I'm extremely new to all of this! If it's answered somewhere else just point me in that direction
Anyways: I got my kindle fire hd (8.9) two days ago. I tried to use the stock email application to set job my gmail but after entering in my information, it says it does not have permission to sync with the server. My husband and I tinker around with it all day yesterday to no avail.
Also, since I do have Google play on here,I do have the gmail application, but when I try to open it, I just get a pop up that states gmail has stopped working.
I watched a YouTube video where someone was able to set it up (via stock) without issue.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
.........
Note: chrome also does not work, and other launchers (besides go launcher hd for tablets which is what was on there after my husband finished rooting it) will not open/work. I'd love to be able to use Nova....

I just successfully rooted my KFHD8.9, but now i have an issue. It seems that a bunch of my sideloaded apps have vanished. Even the Kindle email app is gone. I had sideloaded 1MobileMarket and GoodEReader. Those two markets are gone as well as the apps i had sideloaded. The apps are listed as installed when i go to the Google Play store, but they dont appear under my app list or the Amazon carousel. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I used bin4ry tool.
Not familiar with that tool. I've heard of it, but I've never used it. You should try this thread. It's very active so be patient when waiting for a reply. But they will get you squared away.

Hey Persano, you really should just move to CM or PA if you don't want the amazon stuff. I had the same problem before I switched, I never knew exactly what to keep or get rid of. CM and PA are both very stable. I spent about a month on CM and been on PA now for almost two weeks. Both are very stable and solid rims, and with the 1.5 ghz overclock kernel and your tweaks I get great speed and battery life. Just my take on it anyways.
Oh, btw, sent ya a pm back about your question. Have a good day man.

All you have to do is flash a rom use seokhun's guide. I used it and it worked great and only has a few minor bugs
