My i957 won't play audio on either Danno's AOKP OR the official AT&T ICS.
On Danno's AOKP 4.1 ROM I get lots of these in logcat:
AudioFlinger could not create track, status: -12
In the AT&T official I get:
E/AudioHardwareMSM8660( 151): Cannot open /dev/msm_pcm_out errno: 12
On the AOKP the tab won't play audio but it at least functions otherwise. The AT&T official damn near locks up completely while trying to play audio. If I don't mute sound while on the AT&T I can't even unlock the screen sometimes.
I have formatted cache, system, data, and fixed permissions several times and switched between the two ROMs without any luck. Googling yields some results of bugs related to particular applications. I'm having this issue across the entire system, not just in a particular app.
I would like audio again but am not sure what to do next. What steps can I take next to try and narrow down the issue and ultimately resolve this? What other information do I need to provide to the forum here to get some help on this?
Have you flashed a stock rom with odin? You should go back to honeycomb. If it still doesn't work you have a hardware issue.
God promised men that he'd put beautiful women in all corners of the world. Then he laughed and laughed and made the world round
Odin back to Honeycomb brought a boot loop. I was able to factory reset in stock recovery to fix that (sad face on losing dataz). Sound and LTE started working after that though. While Kies recognized an available firmware update, it would not install. Odin #2 with the ICS image got it all going again.

So Bell Canada and Samsung both have terrible technical support.
My phone is i9000m, Bell Canada, running 2.3.3 (UGKG3). It had 2.2 in the box, and I upgraded through kies pretty recently.
Since the upgrade I have a few new problems that I didn't have before:
-GPS, which used to give me useful and reasonably accurate tracks for my walks and bike rides now spits out a bunch of garbage.
-Download mode still works, but recovery mode doesn't.
-Serious power drain under "Android OS." Upwards of 90% in an hour. Goes away if I kill "google services."
Do a factory reset if you haven't done one already. Most of the time that clears up any update bugs...

This did nothing for me except give me the headache of re-installing all my apps (again). Still no recovery mode, shoddy GPS, and crazy battery drain... oh and my bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs? What's up with that!?
Anyone have any other ideas???
New issue:
Market hangs at white screen after starting install on 10th app. Reset sometimes allows installing another one or two, but after that it'll hang again.

Fixed, rolled back to previous version of Market.
New issue since another factory reset (2nd), 10 second delay between button press and lock screen.
I am sorely tempted to defenestrate my phone...
Why don't you flash a custom rom?

If I could find a rom that fills all my needs better than stock 2.2, I'd be all over it. I have a lengthy list of requirements though, and warranty eligibility is in the top 3 (especially if I defenestrate the thing).
Can anybody recommend a rom with bluetooth working for wiimote and keyboards, netflix working smoothly (2.2 doesn't, stock 2.3.3 does), good power consumption, and stability?
In the mean time, I'm still dealing with the other issues outlined in this thread.
Flashing a custom rom would almost definately sort all your problems. As to which rom, you seem perfectly capable of reading. If you are worried about warranty, you can simply flash back to stock...........

For me that`s a last-ditch solution. I`m usually in a hurry when I break a phone and I`d want to be able to just plop it down at the bell booth during the work day, rather than taking it home first and flashing it (assuming it`s not broken beyond that point).
Hi,
I recommend you to try perform a Hard Reset with code *2767*3855# in dialer ( formats also your internal SD), flash the phone again (better with Odin) with a "standard" version.
Optional make a new Hard Reset (in special if didn't repartition the phone).
After that you can use a custom rom if you want. In past I used DocRambone rom, but now I preffer S.U.R.F.A.C.E. rom with Hardcore kernel and GO Launcher. GPS, phone, browser ....running without problems and battery keeps me over 50 h of medium use without GPS.
Tried hard reset and flashing the same stock 2.3.3 UGKG3 rom. No change. Still can't get into recovery mode, still crap gps, still 10 second lag between button press and screen on, still crazy battery drain.
Rolled back to 2.2, everything works except recovery mode and having weird problems with market imagining that I have apps I've never even looked at before and difficulty downloading. Market cache clear doesn't help. Hard reset doesn't help.
Upgraded through kies to UGKG3 again. Same problems as before, but market works at least. If no solutions available today, I'm taking it to Bell for service and maybe exchange. If that doesn't resolve I'll flash a custom rom.

GPS borked entirely this time. Gets a fix, but the fix doesn't follow me. If I run My Tracks, it just stays in a 10 meter area while I walk in a 4km circle away from and back to that area.

Phone was sent in for repairs and returned to me this morning. GPS still broken (completely, no signal period). Everything else seems fine.
the issues you are having suggest to me the problem is with the KG3 stock rom.
Before getting even more frustrated with both your phone and Bell, I would advocate:
1. do a complete phone clean with sd card reformat (sent you a pm with a link)
2. flash the stock JVR pda in odin and also flash the KG3 modem and CSC at the same time
3. you are then still on stock Samsung, official firmware and within warranty even if that firmware has yet to be released in Canada
4. then if you want you can still flash a custom JVR kernel and a custom JVR rom if you want to improve performance and/or alter features beyond stock

Thanks for your help. I'll look into it.
Before I do that, do you or anyone else have the stock settings under *#*#3214789650#*#* (AngryGPS)??? The settings for the SUPL Settings section are all BLANK!!! I can only assume the rest of the settings in AngryGPS are too. That seems bad.
Hi all,
I've been unable to find a post about this for quite some time so I decided to make a threat about it.
I have a recurring problem with my captivate. Usually after about 2 weeks of using a ROM my phone will have 2 issues pop up simultaneously. They seem to always happen together. It seems to happen after my phone shuts off and will not turn back on until I battery pull. Once I do that I am presented with these two issues:
1.) When I try and toggle Wifi it attempts to then simply says "error" underneath it. I have found a few threads about this but no answers
2.) Upon installation OR restoration of any app with Titanium Backup my phone does a soft reboot (goes to spinning CM logo or for ICS goes to the multicolored squares flying around).
Edit: On the newest MIUI it now says "insufficient storage available" instead of rebooting when I try to install an app after the issues crop up, wifi "error" is still the same
I've had these same 2 issues occur with CM7 Stable, RC, and many nightlies, MIUI, and TeamHacksung's ICS build. I believe it may have happened with cognition too but am not positive.
I do not restore any data with TB. Before each flash I wipe system, cache, dalvik, and do factory reset and still this issue occurs without fail after about 2 weeks on any ROM and the only fix I have is to flash a new one.
Nandroid backups DO fix the problem. If anyone is willing to look through logs or something and see what was different I would be eternally grateful and certainly send you something through PayPal
Any help is greatly appreciated and I am willing to try anything at this point. Thanks!

Nah this is the right place. That's a very strange problem you're having though, and I don't know what the exact solution is, if there even is one for this. The only thing I can suggest is going back to stock, and then reinstalling CM7 or whatever you want

Thanks,
Well happened again on newest MIUI. Gonna go back to stock and start over. I'll update the thread if it does or does not happen again.
Unfortunately after using Odin to go back to stock and rerooting/flashing it happened again on the most current build of MIUI. I'm currently at a loss for what to do. Has anyone heard of or seen anything like this?
Thanks in advance

Just curious, have you tried leaving it stock and seeing if it happens on a pure stock ROM? If so it could be a defect with the phone?
If you flash back to pure stock and the issue doesn't come back, maybe try a custom ROM that's closer to stock, not a CM or MIUI or ICS build. I haven't seen this issue, just trying to suggest some solutions.
I had this same problem with my fascinate. I flashed 1.10.21 MIUI follwed by glitch 13.1. This combination used to work, or so I thought. I flashed back to stock, 1.12.1 then a different package of glitch 13.1 and my wifi started working again. I know the captivates and fascinates are somewhat different, but try this out and see if it works.

I guess I could try that, I just like CM7/MIUI so much. Another thing that happens is many different applications start FCing after the problems all begin.
I tried to restore to a nandroid backup I had made before it happened this time and I received an MD5 mismatch which I believe happened last time I tried to restore...
New info:
I have not realized this before but it seems that I start getting a message that says, "Google Talk Authentication Failed", around the same time. Also FCs happen much more frequently. Is there anything I could be doing to cause this?
New Info
Just going to keep this updated with things I have tried in case anyone ever searches for this that has this issue:
Full format of SD card and odin back to stock did not prevent the issue from cropping up on the DarkKnight3 ROM with Icy Glitch. At this point I can only assume it is somehow hardware relatedl
I seem to have an unusual SGS problem...
My music player plays mp3's via headphones only while using stock rom. I've tried stock, branded 2.3.6, newest MIUI and Darky 10.2 (a bit earlier: Cyanogenmod). In every single one the music player stops playing mp3's and system sounds via headphones just after flashing. Music plays normally on stock, kernels don't seem to make a difference.
Has anyone come across such problem? Googling doesn't seem to help...
Chance .....?
Well you should Start checking several things and after that the SOLUTION appears.
1-First upgrade your SGS to latest official android which is 2.3.6.
Find a firmware which you can root easily.
2-After flashing completed and before booting the operating system enter CWM.
3-Do not Factory Reset, simply Wipe Dalvik Cache & Battery Status.
4-Download custom ICS 4.0.3 RC 3 firmware for SGS from:
http://www.hlusoe.info:5000/hotfile/141757929/hlusoe.info_ICS_4.0.3_r1-RC3-I9000.zip
After Flashing finished, check and report back.
<<<Good LUCK>>>
I'm not so eager to install an ICS ROM in unstable state. Do you think this would solve problems with installing MIUI? Is this a bug fixed by ICS?
I'm reviving this thread after almost a year, but since my sgs started getting slower and slower, and the ICS roms started getting more and more stable I decided to flash a custorom once again...
So far I've tried flashing:
-CM 10.0
-Paranoid Android 2.54
-[jOP40D] OFICIAL ANDROID 4.2.1 <RC2>
-CM 7.1
None of those roms solves my problem - the loudspeaker doesn't work (most of the time). When I try to play music or sound an alarm I can hear silent white noise, as if the loudspeaker was powered on, but nothing more. Interestingly the loudspeaker works perfectly normal when I try to use it during a call.
The loudspeaker works perfectly normal on stock rom installed using this guide, both rooted and unrooted. It also works on this 2.3.6 rom, rooted and unrooted.
Before flashing I restored to 2.3.5 via odin (1.82 and 3.07), I followed guides as closely as possible. Usually I flashed roms using cwm. I tried changing as many sound related settings on each of those roms as possible - the whole testing process took me about 2 days.
Does anybody have an idea what to try next?
So i've been running the stable version of cm9, 9.1.0 i believe, i flashed my captivate with this version around the time it came out. I never had any issues with it before except the occasional data not working but i didn't mind that. So now randomly i came back from the gym and i got notifications saying a few things stopped working. If I remember correctly, it was Gapps, something .core (either google.core or something or android.core.something) and Talk stopped working. Basically it did not allow me to access any apps as they also kept closing before i could finish a task. So i chose to restart the phone and now it is just stuck at the cm9 boot screen with the background glowing blue and the guy has his eyebrows down and what not. i tried taking out the battery and everything! I do have a nandroid back up though

I'd use heimdall one-click KB2, then Heimdall one-click Speedmod, then flash again with bootloaders. Finally, reflash CM9.
This will establish a sane base, then flash a kernel that handles all flashing operations and finally flash the bootloaders required to run newer versions of Android.
Sounds like your /datadata is getting full. I recommend you try the datafix app. But since you are stuck, you will need to wipe data in order to get back in.

Hello everyone, Thank you for taking your time to look at thi and sorry for my bad english.
I have used my I9305 for 4 months until now without any fault. It was on official 4.1.2 XXBME3 stock rom with stock kernel but rooted, Philz Touch recovery. I have flashed PAC and Sentinel Rom before(2 months ago I think) but didnt stay on them as they had bugs to use as a daily driver. So it was on always stock.
And now, from 4 days ago, phone began to get laggy and everything suddenly force closes. Even though it had 2gb ram, dolphin browser get closes if i pressed home button. and after a day, it began to drain battery even in sleep and then after display time out, it goes to sleep and then turns off itself and battery gets very hot in that state. And I noticed that sound not coming out from speaker when ringing or I cant open music player or video player or voice recorder as the phone hangs and then reboots and after boot up, again reboots in like within 5 minute intervals.
So here What I tried,
1. Flashed stock from samsung updates firmware sites via ODIN 1.85. And yes I wiped everything before rom flash incl. Cache,Dalvik Cache, Data,SD card, System and everything except EFS partition as listed in philz recovery.
Result - Still no luck, reboots randomely, battery getting hot, music player video player crashes(video player doesn;t crash but when tried to play video it says cant play this video)
2. Again Rooted, installed TWRP and wiped Everything I could find and flashed stock again.(When wiping, TWRP fails to wipe data where it says type yes to wipe saying failed to format....unknown format and failed to remove encryption)
Result - Same again.
3. Flashed stock again without wiping. Result - Same.
4. Rooted, installed recovery, wiped everything and flashed PAC latest nightlies. stll same. Then flashed sentinel but same.
5. After trying 5 6 times flashing stock, I gave up and now its on Stock 4.1.2 BME3 and removed binary counter and ready to go for warranty claim.
But I still will to make this myself as it will take 2 weeks to get back to me if I give it to the retailer. So can you please help me guys. Thank you again.
Faqs and guides return to stock for warranty post and return to service .
Or just mess about for weeks and achieve nothing .
Thank you,
Yes, its returned to stock as mentioned. But may I know what cause this? cuz I use a S2 for years now and nothing wrong with it. So I think I know how to properly use android. I searched a lot. but sees lot of people complaining but no solution.
