[Q] Photosphere to the 4.2 update - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you think/heard if the 4.2 update will have the "Photosphere" in the camera feature or something similar ?

It's entirely dependent on the hardware - I don't know if the XZ has a 360 degree tilt sensor.

Done any need a tilt senor, its coming on the S3 and that doesn't have a tilt. It's software based not hardware.

If any device have a 360 degree tilt sensor, that means it can take the photo in one shot. I think it's in the software not the hardware.

I was under the impression that photosphere is a nexus only feature, even cm10.1 doesn't include it.

Yep agree. Hope they do it.

Photosphere requires a gyroscope which almost all phones since 2 years have. So it will work. The reason it's not included in CM and only in Nexus devices is because it's not open source i.e. a part of AOSP. It's a closed source app called GoogleGallery.apk because it uses Google's proprietary street view technology. That said, just putting the GoogleGallery.apk and it's related lib files in a CM ROM, it'll work. So even if it is not included Xperia Z (I think I won't be), it should be possible to copy/flash the GoogleGallery.apk and related libs into the system partition and have it work.

[Q] How about a new camera?

Hi there,
I don't know if this is possible, so the first part of this thread is a question. The second part is an idea, that only works if the answer is yes.
1. Is it possible to dismount the current camera in the Tattoo and replace it with a different camera?
2. If so, we should try to find a camera which has accessible drivers, a low price tag, autofocus and maybe even flash(which would require a bit of casemodding). That way we could have new ROMs with working cameras and the crappy original camera would be replaced. That way we could kill two birds with one stone.
We could find several possible candidates, have a poll in the forum and then add tutorials for new users, so they know where to get the camera and how to put it in the device.
What do you think? And more importantly - Would it even work?

Nah, near impossible.
Actually a nice idea but VERY difficult. Only a small number of users would be possible to actually mod there devices, if this is possible in the first place...

Maybe rather a USB connected camera. The built-in will not work, so when we need a camera, we pull this mini-camera out of our pocket and connect it to the USB-port.
Someone who want starting a new firm? It's gonna sell!!

It is interesting idea, but i don't believe a lot of people would spend money on tattoo - i'd rather buy a new android phone with better camera

We don't have the drivers for photo sphere yet.

This is not a missing driver issue, it's an missing gyroscope sensor issue.

well i guess thats why the gapps are posted on xda as "working with ics" hum?
someone ported it, i suppoes they should work
the camera from appstore looks and feels like the stock one and its panorma works...
the gyroscope stuff, i also wondered about but when trying the app "Elixir 2" which i can test the sensor with, the gyroscope is grayed out so i think there is no gyro available...?

Sorry No I meant what's in the play store is ported.
And a lot of the gapps probably will work like playstore Gmail and possibly gtalk since there universal.
Things like the camera are built from the 4.2 source code and therefore aren't universal.
And since I can't find giroscope in any spec sheet for the raze I I'd guess it doesn't have one.
Where in that thread does it say working with (4.0 ics)?

I know it sounds daft, but is the lens clean? The issue was more with softness around the outer of the pictures i think. Though yours could still be faulty.

No it will not. Stop spreading misinformation.

"HTC has clarified that the second unit which we received "has the final commercial firmware, compared to the original unit which was pre-production and had an isolated hardware issue, which resulted in differences between the two sets of photos taken with both devices." According to our understanding, all the commercial sets which will launch in April will come already updated with this firmware. As such, there will be no second camera update for the One."

Updated 27/3/13: We have updated this feature twice; once on the 26th to clarify that there will be no camera firmware update in April, and secondly on the 27th with new information about the HTC One's mysterious performance at ISO 800 (and a possible firmware update in April). Ok, so the Chip have the ability to use that feature but is locked by Sony. I hope it will can be unlocked but I doubt.
Guys it's not Sony related. It's a feature introduced in KitKat. We are still on 4.3. Stop begging Sony for each and everything. Just njoy the rest of the beautiful device. There is a lot of stuff coming soon, step by step. Think about holding a device in hands witch will smoothly be able to handle all the features they introduce even in one year while other phones just give up due missing specs...

This disinformation in this thread is amazing. Then is not locked but is System related and is implemented in KitKat, if so we will get that feature.
Update Google Search to 3.2.16.1006154 and the Experience Launcher to 0.10.1.920880 and you are in the game...
Probably you don't even need the Experience Launcher but I can't understand people not using it as the tight Google Now integration is just awesome...

Note 4 AOSP state

Just wondering how well does AOSP work so far for Note 4?
Do all features work without glitches? Are there still problems with Samsung not releasing drivers/documentation causing serious bugs and glitches? How is samsung-specific hardware (like S-Pen or fingerprint reader) functioning on AOSP builds?
I'm considering Note 4, but I want a phone with well working AOSP (for example Note 2 has a lot of issues, especially in Lollipop versions, presumably due to lack of Samsung's documentation).
Basic ly you lose all extra features with aosp
Crappy camera no pen. This is with all samsung phones

I'm aware about loosing all fancy samsung S-Pen apps but how well does S-Pen work technically (does it support right-click via pen button for example? This feature got cut in Lollipop on N2 for some reason so I'm wondering if it works on N4).

Again two phone were mentioned and I have no idea which you are referring to. I'll assume Note 4 .
Everything works fine. Even camera and sPen. UHD recording works. Battery life is ok. You'll get around 12-18 hours of moderate usage. Of course you will loose TW features but you should already have known that. If you don't use action memo, S-health, S-whatever, KNOX or use the downsize app feature (Which nothing supports it anyways) then you will be fine.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. If you have another Samsung accessory like the Samsung Gear 2 then you don't want to use anything but TouchWiz. Samsung has locked out paying customers from using them on anything unless it is running BloatWiz, I mean TouchWiz.

S-pen works fine. FV-5 camera is great and UHD recording works fine. Currently the finger print sensor is not supported, but might be in future versions, most of the code is there already: Google pulled it at the last moment cause Apple bought the company but most was uploaded already, so it should be doalbe to support it.
Battery is the same as TW. ROM is stable, no crashes or weird bugs.
Anyway make sure you buy the snapdragon variant if you want AOSP: Exynos chipset is not yet supported and I'd say you'll see the Note 5 in the shops before the Note 4 Exynos AOSP is stable.

Yeah. s-pen Air view/command just works as in TW. And you can link ejects of the s-pen to an action (like opening your favourite memo). However you can not select and copy/paste a part of the screen although it should be easy to write an app for it, maybe it even exists (it should just overlay the screen with your sketch and then copy/paste that area).

There are several camera apps. The CM12 stock cam, the google cam, the FV-5 cam, open cam, snap cam, just to name a few. I don't like the CM12 stock cam too much neither but the FV-5 camera app is pretty good. It costs $3 though but those are $3 well spent in my opinion You don't need the Cm12 ROM to test them of course, they run on any android platform, so check them out, all available in the app store.
The Samsung cam app is indeed quite nice though, that's one of the few things Samsung actually did right

That I know. I was being silly.
I had CM12 on my note 4 for a couple of weeks, it wasn't stable enough for a daily driver really, some of the issues I had:
- Overheating, the phone gets hot, really hot, not just normal warming from charging or heavy use. On one occasion the phone smelt like burning electronics, i thought it was going to be dead.
- Camera is unstable, on first launch it was okay, subsequent launches gave an error of unable to connect to camera, only a reboot fixed it.
- Battery life is aweful, on echo i charge once a day on CM12 I had to charge 3 times a day.
- Random reboots, the phone would reboot then get stuck on the CM loading screen.
(I have the N910G,things maybe different on the N910F)
Yeah according to above replies N910F is considerably better than C edition (Apparently Exynos documentation still sucks way more than Qualcomm's?).
Thanks for the answer though, now I know N910G is completely off limits for me.
