[Q] Rooting Galaxy 8.9? - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

I hope this is the right section if not please do move it.
I have been Thinking about if I should root my Galaxy 8.9 I have rooted before But 10 minutes later the device turned off and was stuck on the boot logo Do I had to flash but to the stock recovery.
Im on a contract with Telstra
The tablet is the only Electronic device I have also with internet So I dont want to stuff up and be left with nothing or if A app can also cause that.
The reason I want to root is becuase I dont have A windows PC My brother does but his always onit And I can then record the Androids screen todo YoTube videos.
Let me know the risks of Re Rooting The device and if theres any Other apps that records the screen without The required root.
Note: I wont be flashing Roms if I did root till I geg another Tablet/Desktop and of contract.
Thanks,
Spudster

Updating android version and deleting Apps?

Just got my galaxy s today and theres loads of stupid demos that 3 decided to slap on me which I can't seem to delete, plus I'd like to update my version of android
Welcome to XDA!
New to Android? -> Install KIES and connect your phone to see if there is official upgrade for you.
Already familiar to Android, Flashing etc? -> Search for Stock ROMs (prefer 2.2.1) in General Section
Advanced user/dev? -> Go to Developers area and read carefully on how-to flash custom ROMs.
If I were you I'd wait a few days to be sure that everything is ok with your hardware then start flashing whatever. And Always read the stickies
I hope that this helps
coolio I'm new to android but not to UNIX systems. Looking at using Darky's with option of using either that or touchwiz
Preference would be the Rom Kitchin and build your own rom .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
But read the posts and keep away from those roms with multiple problems for your first try.

First, turn phone off, touch one of the soft keys and wait for backlight to go out. Hold vol dwn, home button and power to check u have access to Download mode. If yes, then remove battery and get rooted, if not then u need to download and run the 3 button combo fix ( there is one of the methods that is very straightforward and works - doesn't require any ssh or cmd stuff ).
Second, you need the phone rooted to get access to the system. Superoneclick is the one I use for rooting - very straight forward.
Then u can use titanium backup to remove whatever system apps u want.

The phone came running 2.1, currently putting 2.2 on through KIES, hope this helps!
How do I become a root superuser?
(I may seem to be asking questions that look rather straightforward, but I am highly computer literate... honest!)
Flash a kernel like CF-root that will enable root access for you. There are many threads/guides on this topic already, so try googling/searching the forum

[Q] Galaxy S GT-i9000 roms on tab?

Does anyone know how or have or think its possible to install a Galaxy s rom on the galaxy tab? I know that you need a custom kernel to make it work. Anyone have this or know how to write one?
Got as tutorial? I'll learn myself.
Anyways, out of boredom I flashed a gt-i9000 custom rom on my Tab, it gets to the custom boot screen and refuses to go any farther. Because of the kernal, first off, I know.
Any input or help would be awsome. The greater good of having the tab think it is a galaxy s is enticing. I already changed the build.prop into identifying it as a gt-i9000 on sites like gameloft. So now I can legally buy games for that device since it is basically the same device anyways, you gamers know what i'm talkin about.
Am also trying to figure out how to trick the build.prop into thinking it has different android system versions. To play games demanding 2.2, 2.3 3.0(a dream?) ect. Right now in my device settings it says I am running 3.0
In the past I turned my g2 into a 4g mytouch. So I know it is possible on some devices. But currently have pyromod upgraded to android 2.3 on it instead. Sorry off topic.
The kernel......
at a german forum, many users have testet with this.
but all of there are bricked the tabs
Mine didnt exactly brick. I got past all the samsung stuff. I had flashed a recovery before boot. It got stuck on the custom roms boot animation. All i did to revert is reboot in 3.0.2.4 cwr, and redo a different zip.

[Q] SGT: SPH-P100 Yellow brick roaded

First, MODS: I apologize if this is posted in the wrong thread, but I can't find anything along the lines of help I need, and since I started here, I was thinking I'd end here... Please move if necessary.
So I have recently learned that not all Android devices are as easily rooted/modded as my EVO (rooted my GF's Optimus S, and ended up on the couch for months, and around the same time, rooted the Sprint SGT she got me for X-Mas, and have only gotten the Optimus S working again, but remain on the couch for bricking my SGT).
I am in dire need of help getting my SGT back to stock (if that's even possible) or at least back to rooted with a stock ROM. I rooted my SGT in preparation for the Honeycomb port (which was apparently a bust(?) and after flashing that port, then Boushh's AOSP ROM, I can boot to download mode (with neither Heimdall or Odin reognizing the device) or I can attempt to boot to recovery and get nothing but the Samsung splash.
I have all drivers installed, and I PROMISE I have learned my lesson, and should have never rooted to begin with, but if ANYONE could please help me get my SGT back, I would TRUELY appreciate it!
I have just recently gotten semi-familiar with ADB again (Optimus S fix) but I'm not really in a place to start pushing commands without guidance.
I'm sorry again if this is the incorrect thread, I didn't know where else to post, but I REALLY need help. We really couldn't afford the SGT to begin with, so I feel horrible that I've bricked it, and can't do anything with it anymore.
Sorry to be a gnat...

No worries buddy, I know how it feels, since you posted already here's how your proceed:
1. get Odin 1.7
2. if you want stock, go to samfirmware.com and download the ROM corresponding to your device
3. Bear in mind that most stock ROM are shipped with locked bootloader, if you don't care skip step 4/5
4. download super one click root from shortfuse.org
5. root your device and either get a ROM with removed bootloaders or get the bootloader patch by chainfire, found in this forum somewhere
6. While being in the "yellow" screen flash using odin
Hope this helps.
He has a cdma tab. Sprint right?
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969892&highlight=sprint+stock
As your last resort. If not go back to sprint tell them tab isnt switxhing on.
How about flashing a kernel that installs cwm?

As long as you flash the no modem software you are good. That is the key. No modem.
Probably a driver issue if it's not being seen in ODIN.
if its not seen it doesnt matter either, you turn off and turn on again, you'll see a black screen with some kind of logo, then I usually flash a rotohammer release, this is always the life saver

Usually when having both, Odin and Heimdal installed, one of them needs to be removed...

Yup. ODIN takes a separate driver that conflicts with heimdall and vice versa.

Hi I can't even enter download mode after my Odin update failed. It's just a black screen and when I plug it into the computer it's not recognised at all.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

[solved] [I8190] Stock root / cf root?

Hi everyone,
The case is, my old galaxy S2 phone did slide out of my hands so I was kinda forced to buy a new one, the screen was totally shot. On my old phone I had a stock rom rooted with CF-Root. After long searches on google and here (search function) I'm still not sure on what version I need to get root back. Normally this was easy because I had a "normal" phone like my old S2. Now I bought a S3 mini (I8190) and see some root options but not with the version I need.
Because of budget problems I had to buy the phone with T-Mobile, so T-Mobile programs and stuff. If I need to get another (official) stock rom to get the device rooted, then I will do this but if there is a version with no problems at all, then can someone point me out, please?
To be clear, I'm just a regular user and in the past I used the guides here but since I do not see the version I need, I'll be asking you wonderful guys (and girls perhaps) to point me out. Because I'm a regular user and not nearly as smart as you, I rather not use some custom rom.
Some info on the device:
Device: Samsung Galaxy S3 mini GT-I8190
Software: Android 4.1.2
Buildnumber: JZO54K-.I8190XXAME1 (I did see a XXAMG1 but I do not know if this is compatible or works, I do not want to brick my phone ofcourse)
Baseband version: I8190XXAME1
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
DC80
Edit: I did found this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030282 but is it compatible or will I brick my phone?
You might get connectivity problems with a unbranded fw, but you wont brick it by trying.
What country?
You can always flash cwm or twrp recovery in odin and then flash supersu zip to get root.
hi,
I'm from the netherlands. I guess that i will stick with t-mobile then. Anyway, thank you very much for the support! I will hit the thanks button. I'd still like to have root though.
Hi all,
I would like to say thank you to the guys who supported me. Although I'm a regular user, I'm happy that this is possible. This is what I have done:
Thanks to the reply of Tys0n (one of the links in his signature) I was led to one of his topics to this topic here from Seedrom193.
I followed his instructions on how to install CWM and then the root.zip file. I succeeded in doing so however I do have a note on it.
When I was done, every thing seemed to work properly except for the buttons on the bottom of the device. Before I screamed **** I tried to reboot the device. That helped me a lot.
So, if other users have the same problem, try a reboot first.
Kind regards,
DC80
@moderators: this topic may be closed and I will mark it as solved.

Ok so its been a while searching for info and i think its time to ask, is there a way to flash a custom recovery? or i did really messed up when updated to this version? i managed to root and i remember following a tutorial before i knew the bootloader thing and it says custom when it boots up.
So, is there a way? if i update should i be able to flash a custom recovery?

This phone's bootloader is completely locked down. There is simply no way to install a custom recovery (or custom kernel for that matter) no matter what version of android you are on. Sorry
that really sucks, i have the sgh-i537 and would have loved to put a custom rom on it. i rooted it as per the instructions that were posted on these forums.

This is why I will never buy an AT&T-branded phone again. I just recently acquired a T-Mobile variant Galaxy S5, and I'm loving it, installed Cyanogenmod the first chance I got and never looked back. I missed CM soooooooo much. AT&T and Verizon should never have started locking down their bootloaders (or if they must, at least give those willing and able a method to unlock it like on HTC devices) it's total B.S. and a complete death knell to their development communities

2 sprint galaxy s3 (one has a busted port and other has issues with volume up button)
htc evo from sprint (lost it somewhere in the house and cannot find it)
my galaxy s4 active (rooted but i think i did something wrong bc my battery life is shot to hell)
cricket galaxy s5 (amoled screen is busted and currently waiting to gather funds for repairs, will consider putting cm on it as soon as i get it fixed. Will be my next project.)
