My phone only displays the phone!computer icon, and I've tried all the button combinations for getting into download mode. I tried using a usb jig and it does nothing at all. The computer doesn't recognize the phone when I plug it in. Is there any way to fix this?
I've been reading as many posts about this as I can, but I've been awake around 30 hours now and I just don't think I can dig around any more. This really sucks
Sorry that you hadn't come across this sooner, but you can use that phone--/!\--pc screen as download mode. Just fire up Odin/Heimdall, hook it up to your computer, and Odin/Heimdall should see it and be ready to flash.
Thanks, but I've tried both and neither of them recognize my phone.
Have you looked through the Captivate Connection Issues thread. That will cover a lot of the steps that might get your phone and pc communicating again.
Faced this recently and i was not able to flash stock from phone ! com screen as the phone was not reconized by PC, Used a jig and the phone was in DL mode.
Do you have a proper jig or a home made one ?
Yes I have tried the methods in the Connection Issues thread, couldn't get any of them to work though.
I have a jig I bought from amazon.
Use that screen as dl mode

I've tried that but odin or heimdall won't recognize my phone.

Then I bet you either have a bad cable or you messed up your drivers by using both Odin AND heimdall.

Hmmm... but I've been able to use both before I bricked my phone.
I think there is something wrong with ur cable and jig its not possible that jig will not force this screen to DL mode. Did u checked the jig with another phone ?

Heimdall's drivers breaks Odin on that usb port.

Well, my usb cable never gave me any trouble before, and I've used it many times to flash roms to my phone.
The jig has never worked though, even when I tried it while my phone was functional. Should I try to make my own jig to see if that works? Is it possible that a jig doesn't work for all phones, or is that pretty unlikely?
I use separate usb ports, one for odin and the other one for heimdall.

You could have a bad jig, worst case scenario your phones usb port could be busted. More likely that the jig has a cheap or faulty resistor. I

Okay, so I guess my best bet is to just try to build my own jig. I'm thinking I'll try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889128
Remember the correct resistance is 301k ohms. Although anything from 287k-309k should work. But considering radio Shack resistors have 5% margin I've had phones not work with 300k. Just a fyi.
Sent from my ICS powered Captivate using Tapatalk
Okay, but I know next to nothing about this stuff, so how would I make a jig that's 301k or 309k ohm as opposed to one that's just 300k ohm. I've never had to buy resisters before so...
Uh probably will need to buy enough to sum up 301k (ei 3 100k + 1 1k) unless your Radio Shack (or other electronic store) has a 300k or 301k single resistor. This is what I used to make my first one. Just don't bother buying the usb head he uses (way to expensive). You can skip the connector and just stick the resistors directly in the phones hub though thats up 2 you.
Okay uhhhhh derp! That sounds simple enough lol just making sure I get it right. Thanks a lot man. I guess I'll be making a trip to radio shack as soon as I can. Hope this works!
I got the jig built and fidgeted around for around 20 minutes, and thought maybe this wasn't going to work. Then I remembered I had an old charging cable I found in an office trash can. I cut out the micro usb part and plugged it into the phone and touched the jig on pins 4 and 5, waited a few, and the download mode screen popped up! I was so close to giving up I couldn't believe my eyes! Thank you so much for your help everyone. I mean holy crap...
OK I had a USB cable that Verizon sent me with my like new phone aka used and the USB cable is a data cable and will I can not root with it or any thing it will charge the and that's it my bro let me use his USB cable that came with his Droid 3 using the same computer and it works I can movie my stuff to the SD card but not with my data cable all I can do is charge my phone with it and the box says its a data cable so can you guys give me more info and yes the drivers are installed right because my bros cable works

Ye heard other say that..
But I use about 6 different cables and all of them work the same
Sounds like a somewhat faulty cable. I'd recommend just using a different one or take that one to a Verizon store and seeing if they'll swap it out for a new one.

I think the Moto cables are crossover data cables. This pin configuration would render normal cables as only power cables. It helps them make ONLY their cables work for data, so you buy theirs. **This is merely my theory as to why only Moto cables do data though. Switched pins on phone and crossed over wires.**
If someone has one that currently just charges it, and wouldn't mind maybe ruining it for the better of society , could you open it up and cross over the data wires?

My Kindle cable works fine with my Droid 3 for data and charging - I travel with only micro-USB cable, it's the Kindle cable, and that works. In fact, I just plugged in a cable from a WD Passport external hard disk - that also works fine.
I do suggest people to use the Moto cable if they are having trouble using others, but I have never had an issue using non-Moto cables with the D3 for anything, from charging to USB data connection to a computer.
Sounds like a bad cable. The data wires are more sensitive to physical issues than the Vcc and ground wires. I one had a cheap generic USB cable I was using and while it charged devices fine, it would cause Windows or the device to hang if i tried transferring data.
I forgot to unroot my droid 3 before i updated and now i get a sceen of
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Boot Failure)
0A.64
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Invalid CG HAB (CG: boot, status: 0X0035)
and yes i have read other threads on this and every answer involves connecting via usb. it WONT. so unless you have an answer that doesnt involve my computer plz dont waste your time.

yeah, i would try connecting it to a port in the back of your PC as those are from the motherboard directly and have the best connection.
You can also try getting a factory programming cable.

i have tried two different cords and all ports on my computer and got nothing.. where would i get a programming cable?
DIY Programming cable:
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/mot...how-acquire-programming-cable-aid-haxx-d.html
I also found a link on ebay for the same cable posted above if you would rather buy one..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-5-ft-Micr...ccessories&hash=item3a72cdecfe#ht_5831wt_1160
Also make sure your battery is fully charged. It might not be fully charged. If you have a different battery that will hap, but the cable above will force charge it , thats what is sais.
even though your battery status says okay I bet its below 50%
in that case it would not allow programming
try to charge it with a friends d3 or get one of the cables posted above
Thank you so much, i borrowed my friends battery after he charged it and i now have my phone working again
Nice to hear you got it sorted
nice..
now you just gotta find that perfect rom to flash lol may I suggest team haters v4 or mavrom 4.0
both are top o the line...
nice catch with the battery charged thing. guess i will need to get a standalone charger.
I have everything planed out for my tab install for my Dodge Magnum. But since the Nexus 7 doesnt have a sd slot I need to find a cable that can charge the tablet and use my flash drive at same time.

I would love host cable with 2 usb inputs but cant seem to find it and dont know if its even possible.
Any help would be appreciated.
I found this on the bay : item # 140839631580 (Can't post link I'm too new... I was a lurker for a while -_-)
i didn't think the N7 could support power and OTG
You want it for video or audio? You could try a wifi solution for audio. Or be the guy that gets the pins to work.
there is NO data and charge at the same time. This is due to how the device switches from charge to usb mode thru the pin 4 . it senses rather a data cable or charge cable is being used . will not charge via otg..
there are several threads with experiments trying to get this work .You could use a wifi or bluethooth drive for data...
I have no clue what im doing but this is what im playing with at the moment. Its a old dock for sgs2 i believe but it has a dc and usb input on the back of it.
Im about to this because i have very little patience for china.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008CQKM2U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A24Y22QERZZ9SS
Would get the cheaper one but the juiced one has a flexible cable vs the fixed usb on the other one. Would this be pointless though?
Unfortunately OTG sends ground up the sense pin to trigger host mode. Once activated it sends 5V DOWN the USB cable to power your USB devices. Trying to send voltage up the cable at the same time to the Nexus would not be a good idea. The only way around it I can think of would be to hack the firmware to only activate the data pins in host mode and keep the power circuit seperate, then you could power the USB device from a modified dock/hub which sends power up the USB cable to the device.
A lot of work, and without the powered hub, OTG would be useless!
In the long run wouldn't it be easier to just plug in the power lead when needed and have the otg in the rest of the time? (or vice versa). It would mean you having to have easy access to the usb port but I can't see an easy non technical solution to connecting both at once.
Don't use the Nexus 7 for a car install. You can get an Acer Iconia A100 with a full-size USB port to connect to whatever external storage solution you want, and it's usually about the same price or cheaper than the Nexus 7.

Would it be possible to charge while using an OTG Cable for Keyboard/Mouse or does the same principle apply as inn data via OTG & charge?

Same principle. In normal OTG host mode the tablet powers the peripherals. A USB keyboard/mouse will be no exception to that.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but was wondering if you ever ended up getting that Juiced systems adapter and if it worked well with the N7. Been looking at it but haven't found any success stories on XDA with the N7, just the few Amazon reviews...

Ofcourse there is charge and otg at the same time by just simply shorting pins 4 and 5 with a resistor,in my case for xperia p , a 100k resistor does it.
Timurs USB ROM from another site is what you want. Has links and everything you need.
I was going to do a car install as well but after sourceing parts and work estimates ( I want clean install, like stock) just more hassle than its worth for me. Please post pics if you get an install going.

Okay, before I proceed further in troubleshooting I have a basic question. I am at the point that I need to use a fastboot cable to unbrick my Kindle Fire HD.
So is this a special cable I need to purchase or is the cable that came with my Kindle Fire HD considered a fastboot cable? I have lots of usb cables for different devices Galaxy S4, Nexus 7, Blackberry etc. Are any of these fastboot cables or do I literally have to buy one labeled as such or make one myself?
You have to buy one or make one yourself, the cable when plugged into the kindle makes it immediately turn on and say fastboot in big letters.

I had the exact same problem and exact same question not to long ago.
To answer, a fastboot, also called a "factory" cable is NOT the cable that came with your device from the factory. It is a cable used BY the factory to put a kindle into fastboot mode. It must be purchased or made. I suggest buying one. The difference between a standard cable and a fastboot, and how you make one, is a jumper between pins 1 & 4 on the small USB side. Amazon sells 1 for $15. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0099E59SG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1380187651&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165 as well as someone on xda. If you have faith in your ability to micro solder make one, just know that a poorly made fastboot cable can permanently brick a device by sending power to pins which should not have power. Check this out for more info.

And good luck. Getting into fastboot is 80% of the problem with most bricks.
