Mod to Increase Maximum Brightness - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i put up sony live wallpaper [purple] on both and ZL was visibly more brighter and vibrant than XZ!I Wonder what was sony thinking not giving its flagship that same screen? :/
Is there any possibility to have more brightness than the stock maximum..at least on par with ZL?
for eg like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008207

Display screen calibration

Now that I realized that our phones do not come with the display calibration softwares like Z and ZL, still I'm looking for some way to fix the annoying low contrast and washed-out colors on my T. Is there any alternate software or app that can do that?

Please use the search button next time. [JELLY BEAN]WhiteBalance from Xperia ZL
the Display Calibration from the ZL doesnt fix the contrast or the washout colors on the T.

Anyway, the link you gave is no good mod. The white balance dosen't stay after lockscreen.

If you want to mess with display calibration, give this a try:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kovit.p.filteryourscreen
I don't use it personally, but I've heard good things about it.

Bye Bye washed out colors !

For all those who are complaining still saying they made a wrong choice over XZ buying a Butterfly or a HTC one .. try this and let us see if you still complain
and for others who are happy with the XZ this will make you even more happy..
First on the settings display white balance set your white balance settings as 9 /220 that is the hue / saturation settings
next set your display brightness to about 95% or even 100..
install this app from the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kovit.p.filteryourscreen&feature=search_result
this app will not require any root
once you open this app set the filter to Alpha as 65 and rest all 0 and apply to your screen and see the difference , you may feel a bit less bright than before but now after applying the filter see your phone from all angles and see if you still see washed out colors , I have tried it and works absolutely fine love my XZ even more
Hit thanks If it helped you...

to be honest if you are looking at your home screen for example the best way to get more saturation is to open your wallpaper in album app take a screen shot and then apply it as wall paper , other wise album n movies anyways increase the saturation.. so thats a workaround
also there is settings on the flter app where you can tinker with RGB so you have on screen realtime display with filter so you can set it as per your needs ,.
The best way to increase the saturation using the fiter is use the below formula to set it ... as per your liking
changing the saturation you would increase all of the values by the same amount for example 150,250,150.
so if you set R to 150 set G to 250 and B to 150 so R and B same value and 75% more to the G
this way the saturation will increase without increasing the brightness..
Hope this helps...
to be honest, i don't seem to see any serious difference besides that the screen is dimmer. sorry

+1. I think the same effect could be achieved just by lowering the backlight brightness to minimum.
did u try fidelling the rgb ? i did that
Xperia Z has the best screen I've seen... I've tried the HTC1 and S-Note II.
I like my white, white not weirdish yellow like the note or bluishlike the HTC.
Becides white, this screen produces all the colours very well, taking a screenshot viewing it on my tv they look identical sending it to my arc the colours were more brighter and blurry. My s2 is broken. So don't know there.
Tl:dr
I don't understand what anyone means with the colours being washed out.
I don't even have angle problems
It only dimmed down the screen. Not really working.
more hope anyone can make the bravia engine 2 working everywhere. This will make the screen one step ahead.
that aint going to happen..although i'd like to see bravia engine on unlocked bootloader
Bravia Engine sucks, it destroyes so much details in pictures...
Sorry but it doesn't work, and it couldn't possibly work. The filter doesn't affect how anything is rendered, it only applies a filter on the top of the image that can make it darker and lower the saturation - it can't make it higher though as this would require modifying the rendering driver.
That app is exactly doing what the stock white balance filter is doing, no....?

not really , the app does not have the access to the actual screen drivers to it tries to filter or tweak the existing display area by applying the filtetr,
I realised it basically dims the screen by putting a layer of transperancy and then tweaks that not great for outdoors but indoors you will get a good visiblity with the tweak,
The permanent bravia engine is something I am sure devs need to find out.. not very hard nor easy ,,, just need to find the right code that when we open album app the BE2 gets triggered if that trigger can be added to the init.d script I think we will have permanent BE2 on all areas..
Bravia engine only works during gallery and video, doesnt work with regular use...or so i believe

yes , so when u open gallery or video the BE2 script or app may start so if we find that out and include it in the startup script that should give overall BE2 NO?

I'm confused, u want to stop BE2 or enable it all the time? U can stop BE2 all together by trying to unlock vootloader

I want to enable it all the time , so therefore better home screen and other apps ... for example when you open lets a wallpaper app like HD wallpapers , the pics appear allready with the BE2 applied..

From what I seen the BE2 produce more whites then regular so not sure if that will work to your advantage

Can you tweak the display?

Is there any possible way to tweak the display of the sp so it has better colors? I mean it's good, but I think with some tweaks it can get better? What do you think?

Display tweaks can be adjusted without flashing any zip or anything foolish. Just go to Settings then Display then choose White Balance and adjust the screen Saturation and Hue accordingly to achieve your desired screen color optimization.
Hit thanks if I helped
Yea, but i don't know a good way to adjust it. Is there a thread for adjusting it, because i can't do it
No there is no such thing.

[Q] Screen calibration - Amoled colors

Resource exists to calibrate the colors of the Moto X 2014 screen?
Leave the most accurate colors, such as white IPS Display. There is possibility? With which resource?
I thank for the help.
I am sure a future modified kernel will allow for color calibration.

Moto X never really got a whole lot of dev support like most Flagships so probably just no one cared to do it.
Sorry for reviving a thread, but I am quite interested in this subjust considering my screen has the yellow tint. I think out best hope is that faux already has a github branch opened for creating a kernel for our device which most likely will support screen calibration like his kernel for other devices, I also believe he has an app on the play store for doing so for devices that support it.
If you search for screen adjuster in the play store, you will see several apps that can adjust tint, white balance, etc. Not as good as if you were able to do at the kernel level, but...
Any developer interested in creating this resource?
The screen colors " Moto X " are horrible When I compare with other models: Galaxy S5, LG G2, Sony Z3 / Compact...

I use CF Lumen to fix the colors. Works pretty well. I adjusted the color temp so whites are actually white now.
But it is the same thing as a kernel with this feature?
Have you used Color Control in a Kernel on another smartphone? It works the same way with this CF Lumen application?

Wow. Good find! This is the ONLY app I have found that actually *decrease* RGB channel levels with respect to base levels. All other apps only increase levels. By increasing channels, you wind up removing those inky black on AMOLED screens. So, when your brightness levels increase, the blackness takes on the color of the increased color channel, which of course is bad.
I do question your method of removing the yellowish whites of the Moto X. The color temp adjuster slid all the way to the right at 6500 is essentially no filter at all, as its the default color temp. Moving it to the left warms up the white balance, but doesn't result in whiter whites. What I found to improve whiteness was to keep the white balance at 6500, but in the color channels, reduce both RED and GREEN channels to 0.949 and 0.937, respectively. I just keep these settings around the clock and don't make use of all the other filters.
So, this is the only app that I've found where you can maintain your inky blacks while actually *raising* the color temp, or at least raise BLUE levels with respect to the other 2 channels.

I misspoke, I didn't mean color temp. I adjusted the master filter, decreased red and green like you said you did. And same here, that setting stays permanently without anything else. It makes a HUGE difference, my screen is gorgeous now. I'm glad you found as much success with it as I did
Thanks @_MetalHead_ for mentioning CF Lumen. This works so much better than Screen Adjuster Pro (I had been using that until now).

Try CF Lumen. It works wonders.
CF.Lumen has the nasty habit of applying its filters twice when rotating the phone and on the recent-apps screen. So if I calibrate my screen to look just nice, I get a blue tint on those occasions. So I'm constantly reminded of this workaround solution.
I'd rather stick with the yellow tint, trying to get used to it and still hope for a custom kernel to adjust the colors on hardware level. But it looks like nobody is interested in developing for the Moto X 2014... :crying:

Weird, I don't have that issue at all.
Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk
It's not an issue, it's just how the app works.
Chainfire himself confirms it in his thread about CF.Lumen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51827433&postcount=74
It might be less noticeable if your filter settings are very low.
Everybody talks about removing the yellow tint, but what about toning down the saturation? I find it ridiculously fake, the google music app and tapatalk app look so cartoony with the stock saturation, could I tone it down with cf lumen?

Loss of contrast

Anybody else who is kind of experiencing loss of contrast in the Z3+? Mine is Z3+ Dual.

The screen. Mine is sometimes losing contrast. Well, I can say it's contrast not brightness as the brightness level isn't changing.?
Yes there is a lot of white on display you'll notice especially if you have black icons on home screen

From what I have experienced, it only happens when in very bright areas, for example direct sunlight or offices. The phone boosts the image brightness in the darker areas for better visibility in bright situations. This is a kernel thingy, and I thought it could be a part of the X-Reality engine too, but "disabling" it in the settings doesn't disable the contrast change. Is this your experience, too?
As I know, it is something related to Qualcomm technology, known as Assertive Display. Maybe this can help you understand. https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...ay-power-efficient-technology-thats-easy-eyes

I have experienced exactly what you described too!
It's the assertive display playing up. I disabled it at one point but reverted back as it works so well apart from these instances.
