Does anyone else have this problem:
When you're just pressing a bit harder than the usual touch, on the top and bottom Left side bezel, it causes the Screen to ripple (fluid wave effect).
Not even pushing down too hard, just a firmer press than usual. This is easy too see on a darker background, like the default background when the device wakes up and still in locked mode.
Yes I realize it's a LCD screen, plus this Corning glass is thinner, and we're not always pressing it that hard to notice anyway.
But the Right side bezel and other areas are mostly fine,
So I'm wondering if it's a defect on my device or not (the left side being too sensitive)? would this cause further problem in the future? And it could be a concern if I carry the Nexus 7 in the backpack and other items pressing on it.
Other reports on this:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/29/3125396/google-nexus-7-review
"the display can give a little and cause the LCD to ripple if you really press hard against the screen"
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-7-tablet-forum/191040-screen-distortion.html
I wonder if I try the Fix on the other thread, taking off the cover, but instead, loosen the screws a bit on the left side, would that help?
Thanks!
Hi,
My device has this too. Mostly on the left side & a little less on the right side but hardly any on the top or bottom.
if I press on the side, like holding it my hand nothing happens..
But i i press slightly on the glass outside of the screen i get a ripple effect...
Just like the HTC ONE X has if you press the glass outside the screen area...
how about you ? is it the same thing with any of your Xperia Z...
Try pressing the black area outside the screen area. I tried pressing with a nail..
IS it something to worry about ??
The same for me.Think it's nothing to worry about.

ripple effect happens for all thin screen
even u may see it when u press ur laptop monitor from back
:good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292700 i think the glass is not so good
When i press on the screen i see waves on the screen sides is it ok
Why would you even press the screen that hard? It's like pressing on a monitor.
I dont press hard i just put my finger on the edge of the screen and i get waves
Might be a hardware issue then. Get it exchanged.
Reconfirm it by taking a screen shot when you press on it, if the screen shot doesn't show then it's a hardware issue.
can anyone check if they have it too i dont want to send the phone to repair for nothing
its like when u press on a calculator screen waves on the lcd

Nothing here. I can see some blurring on the spot where i push the screen, but that's normal when you push a little harder.

i dont know how gentle (or your definition of gentle) you are pressing the screen but i guess its normal. If it really bothers you that much get it exchanged. If you bought it online then just stick with what youve got, dont even bother going through that much hassle. On the other hand, if you bought it locally, then just go in and ask and show them. I dont think anyone here can give you a solid answer to this matter.
Hey all
After reading this forum for ages I took the plunge on a Z1, and am not disappointed!
I had one question, if anyone is able to help.
The hardware buttons light up with a nice white LED.
However, the one on the left (select open apps) is much, much brighter than the one on the right (back).
In fact, it's almost as if the right hand one doesn't work at all.
Is this the same as everyone else's phone, or does mine have a defect?
Many thanks to anyone that can compare theirs.
Uri
P.S: I have the grey one with the black front, which may make this more noticeable.

Is a hardware issue, I think.
My 2 buttons has the same light intensity and is a good intensity.
In my previous prone, a OnePlus One, I have suffered this issue: the back button had a lower light intensity compared to the other buttons.

Thanks very much for the quick reply
To be honest, everything else about the phone is perfect (screen, fingerprint scanner, buttons don't wobble, etc), so for the first time in my life I might just live with "almost-perfect".
I had too many issues with iPhones and am worried if I swap it out, then the replacement will have some other defect like screen bleed, etc, etc.

If you can live with this issue: Don't return it!
I also haven't returned my OPO. Is a small detect I think
Easy to fix
I had this issue too, but it is easy to fix. When you open your phone backcover, you only have to remove the speaker and reposition the led. The led is loose in a cable and so you can reposition it until the buttons have the same intensity and fix it with some glue.
On my phone the intensity is now exactly the same and i only needed half an hour for it.
When you remove the backcover warm it up a bit and use a sucker to avoid scratches in the frame.
Well I can confirm that I have the same issue on my white Zuk! But it's not very noticeable so i'm keeping it like it is!

Wasn't very hard to remove, i didn't brake any clips. Use a sucker and as soon as you see a little gap, use a plastic pick or your fingernails to gently pull up the backcover.
After i opened it i removed the tape from the phone and the backcover. After the work is done you can simply close the Backcover without tape or something. I didn't use tape and had no gaps afterwards.

I just tried that; broke some pins immediately, they seem to be of very soft plastic... So i would recommend others not to do it

Hi guys, even I have noticed the same, the back button light is dimmer than task button. Can somebody suggest if I should get it replaced?

Same for me. back button light intensity is very low compared to menu button. Its not a big issue. My friend also having same issue. you may get same problem in that replacement unit also. So,better keep as it is.
@arunpkrt and @aniketsabarad If you don't mind there is also an option inside the Zuk Z1 lights configuration to switch off this little ugly menu LED and back LED. The function itself stays active and the touch area is large enough to hit the sensitive zone blinded easily .

You guys are right. I faced this problem initially. The phone was perfect, I set it up nicely and was using it. But after a day or two this back button led issue started frustrating me. I applied for a replacement and was surprised to see that even the replacement unit had same issue. So really no point getting it replaced. If it really bothers, you can take the risk to open up the back case as other members suggested.
I also have the same issue but its not important because im using onscreen keyboard.
Overall is perfect but one thing is missing. We still dont have marshmallow to enjoy before Android N release.
Edit: Happy 500th post to me! God Bless!
I don't have the issue, but if ever I had it, it won't matter as I disabled the hardware buttons once I started using mine. 5.5" is too much of a screen and the 3 on screen buttons don't take up that much space. I am much worried about pressing the hard home button because I read from some users that it failed after 2 or three months of using the phone. I only use it for finger print. No need to press it. Double tap to wake, double tap to sleep. No hard buttons to wear.

Mine has the same problem, if I where you I would just keep it that way and don't go to all the trouble to send it back.
You can also Disable the lights thats what I did
Hi,
D5833 - 6.0.1 - 23.5.A.0.570
When I received a call and put the phone near my ear, the screen goes black. If I remove the phone from my ear and stare at it, it will not turn on until the call is finished. I tested the proximity sensor using *#*#7378423#*#* and it behave correctly. Anyone knows what is going on or how can I disable it without the xposed framework?
thanx

Is your screen loose on the top left corner?
Check if Your screen doesn't peel off first. It's most common proximity sensor issue in this phone. Even 0.5mm can trick this sensor. Just tap top left corner and watch is it moving or when in call push that corner. If it's moving even a little bit or after pushing screen in that corner, proximity starts working You need to change adhesive.

If I understood correctly, to get in to change the adhesive, you need to also peel of the back cover (and change the adhesive on there also) take the phone apart and lastly access the front screen.... I had this issue and just used very thin guitar pick to lift the front corner a bit, I the put a small amount of superglue on the corner (minding the sensor) and applied some pressure to ensure that the glue got fixed. With this dirty hack I got my phone working (not water proof though)
Yes, this is longer way but safer. NEVER use cyanoacrylates in contact with transparent parts like glass or just transparent plastic. Super glue isn't precise tool and You had luck but most phones glued like that didn't. Fumes from glues like that can completely blur transparent area.
If You don't want change adhesives and disassembling whole phone to do that use any epoxy glue but never cyanoacrylate.
By the way changing adhesive is not so hard. You need to:
1. Heat back door and peel it off
2. Unscrew 5 Philips screws
3. Disconnect battery and LCD flex
4. Pick up battery a little to release LCD flex tape and Take out LCD
5. Put new adhesive and assemble it back
I made some photos from that operation. Description is in Polish but just follow that above and You should make it.
not from what I can see.

My proximity sensor flip from on/off all the time. In lollipop caller, I can double click power button to wake up screen, and keep it on when screen is facing up (It won't lock unless tilted over certain angle). But in new marshmallow caller, I didn't find a workaround. The marshmallow caller lock the screen much more aggressively.
at least a double click power button is an ok alternative to get your screen back

I there any way I can replace the caller in Marshmallow by the one in Lollipop?
Or Is there any third party firmware which allow proximity sensor to be disabled?
Thanks
I can answer it myself. Lollipop InCallUI won't work on Marshmallow. I Flashed SLiMM 1.5 Marshmallow (Can't root Sony stock firmware for now), and disabled the sensor with Sensor Disabler (Xposed Module).
