[Q] Adding UK (non-numeric) postcodes to contacts in stock Z? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried to enter a UK-style postcode (letters and numbers) for a contact in the stock Xperia Z ROM? I am unable to enter anything other than numbers, which is fine if all of your contacts live in the U.S. Not so fine if you happen to live in the UK, Canada or know anyone that does.
Makes no difference if you are editing an existing contact or creating a new one. The only workaround I know of is to edit via Google Contacts on the web!
I've searched the Zperia Z forums and found nothing on this.

[Q] German Milestone and Softbank / MMS apn needed

I seriously need some help. Since one month I'm trying to figure out how to use mms with my milestone in Japan with Softbank. I have tried almost every apn setting you can find on the web, so I have no clue anymore what could be wrong.
- Rooted Vodafone Motorola Milestone, no ROM
- Android 2.1
- Softbank Prepaid Silver Card USIM
- ...bought with a Panasonic 822P one year ago
Problem:
While I can send messages (sms or mms, don't know), I can't receive MMS. It tells me that there is a new mms and I can see the subject, but trying to download it gives me only "Cant download the message".
Especially I tried ....
android.modaco[point]com/content/absolute-beginners/301380/apn-for-internet-mms-apk-for-softbank-users-in-japan/
(sorry, can't post real links yet)
...and other various hacked Messaging Apps. Handcent SMS not working as well.
For any hints how to get things worked I would be really thankful.
You tried installing jakemod mms.apk for softbank? I have mms working with silver sim but with non-prepaid sim and "packet houdai flat" data plan. Phone is unlocked xperia x10 so-01b. You ca also use mmsreq from market to retrieve old mms to the jakemod mms.apk. Also, search my older posts for links to jakemod mms.apk for eclair and froyo.

[Q] Storing contacts not accurate (?)

Hey everyone, Noob with a smartphone here.
I recently purchased a Rogers Samsung i896 Captivate (2.1) and I am liking it. The only problem I am currently having is with my contacts list. I input the correct area code in front of each one of the numbers when creating a new contact but for some reason what appears to be a couple random contacts, it will not list the area code when I go to send a message. This results in it either failing to send or I have to manualy add the area code to that number each time I want to send that person a message. I should also mention its the same area for all my contacts. Am I missing something here? I have tried researching this issue with you results, I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
No one else has experienced this? Am I doing something wrong?

Contacts application issues

I've been trying to solve this for some time without success. Due to the way Android merges contacts and my fetish for flashing new ROMs, I frequently find that I need to search my contacts by phone number or area code. Does anyone know if there is a way to search like this?
I need to do the research on the contact merging when I am back on the big screen. Last I saw was that everyone acknowledged that the merging was a problem with no solution other than something like Titanium backup.

Dialer One supports this kind of search.
I tried Dialer One and it doesn't really support what I want to do. I often find that I need to search for all contacts in a given area code or I only remember part of a phone number or I want to search by any other information stored in a person's contact (email, city, state,...).
It's just hard to believe that Google being the Android creator and such a power in search has such lousy contact search capabilities.
Any other suggestions?
Rick

[App][JB][MMS] Softbank/MMS/JB with Emoji

Recently I've been so sick of GoSMS with its constant spamming messages and bloated features. It feels so clunky on phone so I'm desperate to search for an alternative that can work well on Softbank (the only reason I stayed with it is because it supports emoji and user agent string).
So I found this version of Mms.apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741152) that supports emoji and decided to modify the agent string to iPhone. The maximum image size allowed is 1024x768, and it seems to work well enough for me. I've heard bigger sizes may cause some problems.
I take no credit in this since the original file is Mms.apk, the procedure to decompile and compile, sign APK is posted all around the net.
This version only works on JB.

Has this been able to receive MMS fine?
Mms are working, but I receive blank messages if the sender is a gmail adress (html mail is not working then i guess?) any solution? (i have a galaxy s3)
zenithz, Thanks for making an emoji JB Mms.apk available. I've been looking around for one from Jellybean to port over to Softbank but you've already done it! I have a version done for ICS in my signature, if anyone finds that helpful.
Nekojitajp, having done a little bit of google searching, I believe the lack of HTML support is not a problem with the MMS apps; I think that the softbank MMS gateway strips HTML from incoming messages. If people want to send HTML messages to you, they need to use either a PC email address, or send it to an i.softbank.jp address, which does not strip HTML (and in fact functions identically to a PC email address, using IMAP).
installation trouble
I’m trying to get S’mail set up for my S3 but nothing has worked so far. I’ve tried everything on this form and then some but I get nothing. I can receive messages but I cannot send.
I have jelly bean installed and rooted. I have the black sim card and I’m using smile.world APN.
Hey, I have the cm10 custom MMS with quick reply and all the other jazz but the only thing that kinda annoys me is that they changed the emoji icons and I seem to have trouble receiving emojis. If I provide you with my MMS.apk would you be able to add your mods to it, or tell me how lol? Thanks

You can receive message but you cannot send? It seems more like your APN setting has some problems. If your MMS agent is incorrect, you can't even receive the message. I don't have an S3 so I can't tell much. Did you try GoSMS for once to see if it works? You can set MMS agent with GoSMS.

What do you mean to have trouble receiving emojis? If the icons are not what you want, you can unpack the APK and replace the icons as you'd please. You have to compile with appropriate framework, and I'm not on CM10 so I can't help you in this

SMS has nothing to do with this. You have to check the SMS center number to make sure it works. Also, if you send an SMS to a number outside softbank, it's not guaranteed to work

Ok thanks. there might be something wrong with the sim card itself. I put it back in my iphone and now that wont send sms messages. I'm going to see if they can replace my sim
The SMS center number is stored in the simcard, changing phone won't help.
Check yours with *#*#4635#*#*, phone information. You'll find the section about the gateway. Be careful not to click Update.
Click Refresh instead to check the current value. Soft bank's one should be
0791180966153900, it's PDU format. If the value is different, update it. If it still doesn't work then you should contact Softbank.

Can anyone build a 4.2.1 version of this, or point me towards how I can do it myself?
The proxy information is all there, but I need to change the user agent for Mms.apk to one of the user agents Softbank accepts. My understanding is I can pull Mms.apk using ADB, use apktool to pull it apart and edit mms_config.xml (or whatever it was called) to change the agent, but I have no idea how to repack it.
I've built one for 4.1.2 but not yet for 4.2. It's pretty eat to do UT yourself, though. As you said, you'll need to use Apktool, and edit the mms_config.xml file. After that you use apktool to repack the file, sign and zipalign it. You'll need the Android sdk. Check out my other posts for more info. Here and here.

If someone wants, I just finished a little program which modify automatically the Mms.apk of your phone to made it compatible with the softbank network. Maybe it can also works with other networks with some modifications.
Please let me know if someone's interested.

[Q] unable to find a recently created contact

Hi All,
I've changed my ROM recently (for a Venom ROM).
Now, when a new contact is created then registered on the HTC One, immediately after, impossible to find it with a normal search.
And if I dial the phone number, the HTC recognize it and print the contact's name...
Does someone knows what happens? Perhaps I have to reinstall the ROM? All other functions are OK.
Thanks you for your help.
Regards
Eric
can you see your created contact in your phonebook without a search? also check the sources of your phonebook: go into your dialer, switch to people and click on Phonebook on the top left.
