Hi,
after I fully charge my Z and operate it while its still hooked into the DK26 docking station, I get a very strange buzzing sound with every touch (or even movement) on the display.
Did anyone else noticed that ? Or know what it might be?
Regards,

None of you got that "problem"?
I noticed it on mine.
Anybody else?

I have this too... Weird!
Mine also does that every touch

I have it too. What could it be? Is it dangerous or faulty?
Are you sure it's the dock ? It's the charger making this sound, and it's normal - that's the sound made by capacitors inside the wall charger. Some chargers do it, some don't - nothing you can do about it, but it's not faulty. You could try changing chargers, but honestly mate don't bother with it =)
okay then, I was just wondering if it is considered normal.

It's 100% not the charger, it's the docking station.
I tried different chargers and the buzzing remains.
I even held the phone while beeing inside the dockingstation against my ear and I'm 1000000% sure it's the docking station
The charger was under my desk behind the wall, so there is no chance I'm wrong
I know it's not dangerous but it's still pretty annoying, because you can't leave the WiFi on or even the clock screensaver active without it making that noise, cause it's buzzing only on input / output while the phone is charged at 100%.

I recently had the exact same problem as you and got extremely frustrated since every car charger at every store didn't work. I bought one that said it was compatible with the tilt the other day, but when I tried it in the car it didn't work. I figured at this point it was definately my phone being either a hardware issue or a physical issue. I got on the forum and through many searches I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406771&page=3
Basically, my 5th pin inside the USB connector came out of allignment and wouldn't charge via car charger. It would work with the headphone adapter with the charger connected through there and then held tightly to the phone. This verified something was loose in the USB port. So what I did was:
1) Turn off the phone (**Very important to make sure nothing shorts out)
2) Take a small flat screw driver or other flat object and carefully push the 5th outer pin (on the right when looking at the phone resting with the screen side up) and level it with the other pins. (*** BE VERY CAREFUL SO YOU DON'T BREAK THE USB CONNECTOR MORE SINCE IT CAN BE VERY FRAGILE WITH TOO MUCH FORCE!!)
3)Test it out (YAY it works!!)
This worked for me and now I am happily enjoying my car charger with no issues. Activesync is also working better by not hanging on calender items. Hope this helps you solve your issue so you don't need to send it in to AT&T.
NAV charger
maybe it is mechanical.
but i have very similar obsrvations actually throuout my history of htc devices. they would "suddenly" stop charging thru non standard chargers.
the same happened to me with my tytn2 and a regulaar usb car charger...charged fine until one day it wouldn't anymore.
Although i have no technical explanation as to what happens in the device to cause such a change in "attitude", i figured a "stronger" charger could maybe help and purchased a USB charger designed for (i think) Navigon GPS devices. The charger is larger and obviously stronger and has been working for half a year now reliably, while all others wouldn't.
Andy.
Hello, I have could this problem is happening to other people but. Haven't could a solution for it.
Whenvi Plugg my galaxy into the charger the touch screen either doesn't respond or pressing in a spot I haven't pressed. I think this problem is because the screen is capacitive but this doesn't happen at all with my ipod touch.
This makes the phone impossible to work with with while its plugged in
Any solution for this?
it might be defective
or simply it needs to be re-calibrated
mine doesn't do it
but i have read on the forum many people had the same problem as you do
they either took it back for warranty or got it fixed some how
i think it should work as soon as you recalibrate the touch screen when it's plugged in
How do I calibrate it?
Are you not using the original charger?
I'm getting this too, with the original charger, but not with a usb charger.
Seems to be related: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700612
And this: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673330
Happens with my brothers I9000 too! D:
On mine if I'm not TOUCHING the phone case or it's charging the touchscreen gives unreliable input.
90% of the time this isn't a problem because I have to hold the phone in order to use it.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just got this phone and I am having the exact same problem. Using either the original charger or an apple ipod charger I have the same issue. It also happens on the original ROM and on Darky's. It works fine while it's plugged into a computer and charging though.
Has anyone been able to remedy this problem without sending it in for warranty repair?
hi, i get this too, only happens when plugged in.
anyone find a fix?
ok, i kinda found it out.
Its because the charger being used isnt properly grounded or something which means there is a small electrical charge being picked up the screen which causes the screen to jump about. Doesnt happen when the phone isnt plugged in or when its being charged via micro usb connected to my laptop so I think the charger is to blame not software
according to someone else its because of
It will be high-frequency noise on the DC output voltage of the charger. Chargers use a high-frequency DC-DC converter method and the cheaper ones don't do a very good job of filtering the high frequency out of the DC at the other end. This noise enters your phone and plays havoc with the sensitive circuits in the capacitive touchscreen.
It is nothing to do with grounding of the input side of the power supply; when you ground the output side (the USB plug) with your hand, your body capacitance filters out some/all of the noise.
but anyway at the end of the day its still a fault with the charger whatever the technical details maybe.
Is there a charger out there that will not experience these problems?

I have the same problem with the original charger. But by using the charger that came with my logitech mouse, I have eliminated the screens erratic behaviour while charging. The original charger is collecting dust now.

Could you post some details about your charger? 2/3 Pin? voltage? amperage? Input/output amounts? etc...

The wall-charger has an output of 5V, 1A. Input is 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 180mA. Looks like 3-pins. It came bundeled with my Logitech G700. Also, when I plug the phone in, I get those three choices you usually get when charging from a pc: "Kies-mode", "mass storage" etc. I just press return on my phone when I see this. So it seems as if this charger is a bit more advanced with some kind of chip in it. Perhaps any Logitech/Microsoft-charger will do.

Pin was the wrong word, I meant prongs. Does it have two or three that go into the wall socket? The third being the grounding wire.
I have a charger for my bluetooth headset but it only outputs 550mA. Is that enough to charge the phone. The original is 700mA.
Hi !
I noticed that the travel adaptater sold with the device is emiting an electric noise when it's plugged on power supply but not on the phone. I don't know if I'm clear. It's making an electric crackling noise when the adaptater is plugged with no phone on it.
I'm quite worried by it, as it might damage the phone (?). So I need to know if something's wrong with my adaptater or if it's "normal".
Thx.
I have the same problem. Thus, I use a non-official adapter instead and it is silence.
imagine when u charge the phone when sleeping, that's annoying.

If preventing me from sleeping is the only problem, I'm okay. If it fries the phone, or reduce batery life, I'm much less okay...
Thx for your answer though.
For me too, adapter is making a high pitch sound.
And when just plugged in it makes a buzzing sound.

Okay, well it seems "normal" then... I found a woman on a french forum that does not have the problem though, among three other people that have it...
My adapter is quiet and doesn't make any sound...

It might depend on your localization, as the power input may change (output should be the same) ?
I'm in France, and here are the specs :
- Model : STA-U13EV
- Input range : 100-240V, but we've got 220V in France, might change depending on the country
The rest should be the same for everybody (50/60Hz, 0.16A...)
How about unplugging the charger when you don't use it ?!
Will save you some cash also. Chargers consume power, even if they do not charge anything.
If I fully discharge my Nokia phones, the charger emits some noise for the first few seconds also.
In general, it is nothing to worry about as soon as your phone charges fine.
I replaced the screen on my phone myself but somehow i lost the little flap that goes over the touchscreen connector, does anyone know where i could find a replacement piece for that? Or if there is something else i might be able to substitute for that?

I have no clue, but chances are it is some kind of insulator, could you not make something out of paper or card?
And your subject says response problem? Try a screen calibration.
Yea i tried a screen calibration but it always fails though. I was thinking about trying a card or something but i didnt know if it would be safe to use tape on that part of the phone, i might have to send it to Dell
Why start two threads on the same issue? and this one is in the wrong forum.
Because my computer was messing up so i wasnt even sure if this one even posted, is it really bothering u that much?
Yes, it bothers us that much.

I have a question about the screen... I have a big problem with it...
So my battery often runs empty. So I need to charge at several places - at the computer, in bed, in my girlfriends house.. so i bought some usb-cables for the streak... and some usb ac adaptors, like for iphone, with 12V and 1000 mah output.
So, now the problem: The cables aren'T original, but they work great. When i charge the phone with the original charger and a faked cable, also no problem. But if i use any cable with a non-original ac-usb adaptor, the screen bekomes unusable. if you want to delete a letter in a sms than, you write a m and a b und strange words, i can see the swype-line doing what it wants. same on homescreen, cant press the right icons. if i unplug the charger, everythin works fine again. i also compared the data of the original dell charger and the alternative one, same output and mah-number....
Have you ever heard of this problem?
And most important, do you know how to solve it? (please don't tell me to buy an original charger, i dont want to wast 40 € for this....
Yes, same problem with Wagan Home/Car ac/dc charger ONLY when AC charging. Probably isn't good for device, but I've never had any battery problems. Screen issues go away as soon as charger is unplugged. I just don't use the device screen when it is on that charger AC only. Works fine in car (DC).
Okay, I won't tell you that the only way to avoid it is to use the Dell factory charger (but it is)
kraz
Well, it is not, just tried the ac adaptor from my sister, worked fine
That screen behavior is caused by unfiltered output of adaptor (china, is it?).
Can be at least partially solved by using a ferrite ring or USB cable that already has one.
For example:
http://www.dataq.com/products/hardware/accessories/fc.htm
for this orice, i can also buy a new adaptor and hope that this helps
but thanks for the info
(and no, it's from great britain, but made in china )
RadioShack part #273-0067 2/bag $3.19. I realize most recent poster is from UK. This info is for anyone in USA having the same problem. One on each end of usb cable gets rid of 85-90% of interference, and makes screen usable while charging with non-original (Wagan) charger.

i had the same problem. I cut a tiny piece of a business card (make sure its a sturdy one though and not regular paper). Place the cut piece over the connector but under those gold pins. works just fine now

Try with "dellstreakrepairs.co.uk"
I noticed this morning a strange hissing noise which at first I thought was coming from the phone. This was when I was using the phone whilst it was plugged into the mains charger.
I removed the cable and the noise stopped. I plugged the phone into a USB port on my PC and there was no noise this time. So I checked the mains charger that came with the phone and sure enough the noise was coming from there!
It almost sounded like there was a fan inside, a very similar noise.
Has anyone else experienced this or can you recreate this?
It also happens to my charger, you can feel comfortable there are no problems

I do not have this charger but from your description it sounds like normal switcher noise.
The charger likely uses a switcher for dc-dc conversion. When not well designed they can have an audible noise. Usually it is not a fault and no reason to worry.

Thanks for the info guys
i hoped i finally got rid of that noise with a new phone, but my note 2 charger makes noise too.
just like my LG O2X charger and Galaxy Tab 2 7" charger.
yet all my other chargers are capable of being perfectly silent.
it's loud enough to give me trouble sleeping, and i'm used to sleeping next to a noisy PC.
I don't have a Galaxy Note 2 yet, but my original Galaxy Note's charger makes noise, as well. I believe because it has a high mAH recharging, because I use as an extra charger an old blackberry charger (with a long long cable xD) with only 500 mAH recharging power doesn't make any noise. I don't know if it has anything to do with how much voltage is flying through the charger has anything to do with it, but:
*Samsung chargers make noise.
*Other chargers I have don't.
All the chargers since the SII's have emitted some noise when there is no device plugged in. I don't really mind honestly.

Using nokia phones since 2002 i have to say most of them make that sound, dont worry
I got my SGNII at the weekend, and I have a very noisy charger, to the point where, as it is close to my bed, it wakes me up when its finished charging. However its only noisy once the phone is fully charged. Unplugging the phone once charged means the noise stops, but it also means my phone has been running on battery for 6 hours before I get up.
I think I will switch to a different USB charger that doesn't sound like a mouse being tortured
No Problem
Never faced this issue ever. Maybe faulty chargers i guess
