[Q] Change CM10.1 back to Stock rooted - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings.
Some months ago I got me an N7000 and was kinda happy with the original (rooted) rom.
I loved the multi-windows option of the 4.2.2 release. But I kinda got several slowdowns (maybe because of
some too many apps installed?), so I flashed to CM10.1.
To my disapointment there wasn't a statusbar at the top (where to conveniently choose wifi, etc) or any multi-window or s-note options.
My questions:
1.) Is there a way to enable multi window and editing the statusbar at the top or s-note?
2.) If the above isn't working out, how do I get back to the original samsung 4.2.2 rom that is still rooted?
Do I have to use Odin or similar programs, or are there easier procedures, and where do I find the rom files for flashing?
I found a manual:
http://itekblog.com/change-cyanogenmod-back-to-stock-firmware/
Is this procedure save and sound, the way you would do it?
I DID make a nandroid backup on my ext.sd. Is it possible to reflash my prior rom with that, or is this "backup" just meant for apps and personal data?
I'd love to go back to how things were,...
Thanks in advance!

It's 4.1.2.. anyway you have to use pc odin to flash a stock jb rom first boot into recovery(presumed that you are on safe kernel) wipe the system, preload, data, cache and dalvik cache and then boot into download mode then flash the rom of your country from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 then when you are done flashing the rom then to root the phone boot into recovery mode and flash the kernel corresponding to your country's rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

Thank you for the fast reply.
Just for the record: Is there an option for multi-window, or s-pen/note in CM10.1?

Multi window not yet
For snote you can use alternatives from the play store

[Q] ICS_Stunner_1.4.26.1

Hi
i have just flashed ICS_Stunner_1.4.26.1 onto my Note.
Its amazing, I love it.
I have changed the dpi to 189 and changed it to forced landscape with 10 x 10 icon layout.
It was working fine the whole day and now when I turned on my phone the icons are cut in half. Not sure how to fix this?
Secondly I flashed from GB 2.3.6 with abyss kernal... they say you must charge battery to full then discharge empty and then charge to fill and delete some battery config. Is this true?
What would your path of action be when flashing a new rom? Also how do I restore all my contacts? I made a complete backup using titanium backup (system, apps & data) when I was on my root stock rom...
I got a few questions there and hopefully I can be pointed in the right directions...
One final question, if I wanted to try out KingDroid rom. How would I do it coming from this ICS Stunner Rom?

I follow the procedure suggested by xda thread when I change from ICS rom to another ICS or GB rom:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
I have no problem with this procedure so far.
If you want to be absolutely safe, you will use PC Odin back to stock Gingerbread, root it, then flash a safe rom/kernel combo. Abysskernel will work, but it's not 100% safe.
Your contacts should be restored if you had them synced with Google (Settings --> Accounts).
When you restore with TI Backup (if you do) don't restore anything system wise. Just apps and data with them only. If you have bugs, you will have to re-flash and NOT restore apps.
ok concerning my contacts... i didnt sync them with google... i know silly me. it was on the phone.
So doesn't titanium backup copy them anywhere.
I have made backup of my rom with cwm... would that contain my contacts if i restored that backup?
was its either use cwm which isnt 100% safe or use pc odin and stock gb...
Could i just restore the backup of my gb rom and then flash from there to a ics?
Use PC Odin back to gb stock prerooted, the stunner use a bad kernel i think and wipe can cause emmc to break?, so i suggest using PC odin back to stock prerooted gb , then follow some guides ( i used abysskernel ) then Asylum as its same and good rom!

If you restore "Phone" and Contacts app + data with TI backup, it MIGHT restore them but no guarantees.
You can restore the backup of your GB rom IF you are NOT using CWM on a stock ICS rom. Use Abyss Kernel to restore nandroid backup. Flash Abyss. Reboot recovery. Restore nandroid.
Go to stock ICS OR franco, speedmod, or CM9 kernels or a CM9 build.
ok I flash abyss kernel via cwm... then advance reboot recovery... restored my backup via cwm... merged my phone contacts with google...
Then i got curious about Kingdroid v2.0 with s3 add ons. So I downloaded that and flashed it via cwm... the play store wasnt downloading apps but i could browse internet, so reflashed abyss kernal via cwm and re flashed ics stunner...
I am back on stunner now. I prefer to look of this rom. So i guess as long as your flash abyss kernel you should be fine with flashing different roms and retaining root?
Just need to find out about the battery issue... when flashing a new rom what do you do concerning the battery to ensure correct % and charge...
edit: currently on Kernel : 3.0.15-I9220ZCLP6-CL343671
should i flash to one of the kernels you mentioned above?
also still having problem with cut off icons with apex set at 10x10 in landscape mode...
ok i think i has figured out the solutions...
At current apex doesn't support icon resizing so i changed my layout to 6 x 6 for now.
also was having problem making calls, it kept fc. I found out somewhere that if you use 160dpi you can use a fix or change to 200dpi and you don't need a fix and it works and still looks awesome.
I am very happy with this rom thus far... otg works which is a plus. I think i will use it for a week or so and then try the next one...
flashing roms is like eating pringles... once to flash you can't stop
Dont take me wrong dude but all these fixes including the call fc are in the stunner page,if u read everything before flashing u will not have problems and if u do, u would know how to solve yourself...and be careful restoring nandroids from cwm, flash abyss, then restore.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Also for the playstore,u could only clean the caches in my apps or change the dpi that would work

hahaha why would i take it the wrong way?
but seriously there are like 500 pages... and sometimes your searches are using the right key words. But yip I will try my best not to ask questions that have already been answered... even tho those answers are hidden in the mine that is xda...
With time you learn to navigate such a mine without feeling lost and confused but i am still a wee padawan
Yes always flash abyss first ALWAYS

Switching CM9 from Samsung ICS?

So there's three questions here.
1) What improvements are there in CM9 over the Samsung ICS ROM that really make it stand out and make flashing CM9 worthwhile? What happens to all my apps and are there any killer bugs?
2) How would I go about installing CM9 considering the brick problem with the Samsung ICS ROM?
EDIT:
Some extra information. My Note is an unlocked version purchased from Amazon UK and I have already rooted my device, prior to which I flashed the official ICS ROM using PC Odin.

Samsung ICS and CM9 are two completely different ROMs, CM9 is the pure android experience, No junk, No bloatware, Super fast you really should try it.
However, if you use CM9 you will lose all the S-Pen features and it will become just a normal stylus, You will also lose the S Memo app(s) but there are some alternatives. To install it, Just flash a GB rom via ODIN, Flash abyss kernel and then flash CM9 (you will need to wipe on abyss kernel)
Pretty simple really I have a nandroid of paranoid android and a nandroid of rocketROM, so i can simply flash GB or ICS via ODIN and restore my nandroid, So i can constantly switch between the 2 as im undecided which one i like the most
Losing S-Pen features isn't a big problem as long as it still works as a stylus. My biggest thing is my widgets and apps. Particularly SPlanner. Does CM9 come with a decent calander along with a widget for said calender?
For installation, do I flash the GB ROM with mobile ODIN or PC Odin? And how do I install a kernel?
Sorry I'm new to the whole custom ROM world
Im not sure if the stock calendar will suit your needs but no harm in trying Theres a ton of calendar apps & widgets in the play store so you'll be fine.
As for installation, You can either use Mobile ODIN or PC ODIN, I always use PC ODIN cause i've always used it.
So after you have flashed GB in ODIN, Reboot the phone, Put all the stuff on the SD, then reboot in to download mode
as for kernels, Download this one https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/GingerBread-speedmod-kernel-n7000-k2-12-Odin.tar
Flash it in ODIN (PDA) Then put this one on your SD card along with your CM ROM https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchOriginalLogo.zip and flash it in CWM recovery, reboot recovery (under advanced menu in CWM)
Now find the ROM and flash it Job done !
So step 1) Flash GB with Odin.
step 2) Flash new kernal
step 3)... I'm lost
1) Flash GB
2) Flash Kernel
3) Boot into recovery
4) Flash abyss kernel ( not necessary as there is no brickbug on GB, But it states to use it on the OP of Paranoid Android (CM ROM) )
5) Reboot recovery
6) Wipe and factory reset, Wipe cache + Dalvik cache
7) Flash your CM based ROM
8) Jump for joy
9) Report back saying it worked
All your softwares which are part of Samsung rom will be lost, like S-Memo or the SNote, Splanner, TW launcher etc.
The CM9 roms have their own calendar installed and which also does the work that its supposed to do. With CM9 roms you get lot of options for modification and also as per your liking.
To install - you need to go back to GB roms first. Use the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
1. The above link will give you prerooted GB Rom and will also ensure your binary count does not increase. Use PC Odin to flash
2. Download your choice of CM 9 rom like the Original CM9 or Asylum or the Paranoid Android and keep it in your phone's root drive.
3. Download Abyss 4.2 kernel and flash using the Mobile Odin. Reboot to Kernel once installed.
4. Install your selected CM9 variant from your internal storage.
The above steps will help you get CM9. My favourite is Asylum and PA. Asylum for further speed enhancement over CM9 and PA for its Tablet mode.
Hope this helps.
+1 to paranoid android, The hybrid tablet/phone mode is awesome, and it looks really good on the note, Lots of customisation to change DPI too !
Thanks to kailashnj for linking a prerooted GB rom That should save you some time !

How do I do step 6?
Okay, Once you have flashed your kernel, It should inject root + CWM on to the phone, So boot into recovery (volume UP + home + power) then select wipe data / factory reset, After that is done, wipe cache partition, then after that, go to advanced and select clear dalvik cache.
then on to step 7

no, the abyss kernel is to be flashed in recovery, Well the one i linked you to is anyway. You might not need it, as the speedmod GB kernel is just the same, The brickbug doesnt affect GB users

I got 25gb free space with my HTC, Plus all the bonus space for referring people lol, I may aswel put it to good use

[Q] unrooted GB - OTA ICS - Flash/Root SpeedMod kernel via Odin?

Hi good folk!
I have my son's new GN and I want to help him to safely update to ICS OTA and root.
Is it safe and possible to go from unrooted GB, do the OTA update to ICS, then flash n' root the SpeedMod kernel via Odin?
It's wipe and restore with default ICS kernel that's unsafe if I've read right?
Thanks for your help!
Ok, I sound like a total noob, I admit it!
Safest way to get speed mod kernel onto unrooted stock ics please. I have been looking, but it's like spaghetti junction out there!
Thanks!
Yup, its wiping in recovery or factory resets which is causing problems. You should be able to safely upgrade to ICS.
Not sure about the kernel. Just read the stickies. I think it would be covered.
One advice: scrap stock ROM all together.. Flash something like Asylum ICS, or some safe custom ICS ROM based on stock ROM because frankly stock ICS sucks like hell.. if you need any help, feel free to PM me!
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ParanoidAndroid v0.4 using XDA Premium. xD
The safest and easiest method would be,
1. Upgrade to ICS via OTA
2. Root with temporary CWM method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647148
3. Get Mobile Odin from Google Play (or search in xda)
4. Flash latest speedmod kernel for ICS (k3-5 .tar) via mobile odin
5. Reboot to recovery and do wipe from there if needed
Great! Thanks for your helpful replies, much appreciated!
i suggest you to be on gb to stay on safest side otherwise ics is a pain in ass.. go upgrade i can't stop you
+1
Anything is not safe if you don't know how to use it properly...
I don't advise you to go OTA, as if you read there are many posts are there describing battery issue, FC, unable to go to deep sleep. what are happens is likely due to previous ROM junks (thogh may not happen in all cases, b'coz there state of ROM may be clear at time of OTA update)
What i suggest best thing is to go this way
-Take backup of important data, as you have unrooted GB so you have limited scope for backup, but there is lots of applications then worth to get Root (if your RO is directly rootable) then create backup with titanium or same other application. just backup only user applications only not system junk.
-Wipe cache and data fro recovery (you can get recovery with Vol Up+home+power)
-Download ICS ROM and flash using odin from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Here is installation and rooting guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26455511&postcount=2475
-Now you will feel fresh ICS experience. and you can restore your data which you have created earlier.
But if you dont have much application to backup, then escape root, Backup/restore steps i have mentioned. Contacts can be backup with google sync, as well from contact - import/export
and SMS can be backup with SMS backup and restore application
as well there is free appl for unroot ' My bakup" on market is good to backup these stuffs.
GoodLuck!
Edit : Yes wiping is not safe on ICS. but custom kernels are safer compare to stock. you can flash any safe kernel like CF,Franco, speedmod and some more (get it from development section) after finishing root ICS.
Just remember golden rule, avoid deleting big files, wipe and recovery function on ICS. then you are safe.
Ahh wow thanks but too late! My son started playing with his phone before I could speak to him last night, and this morning I looked at his phone and saw it had ICS. Either this phone came preinstalled with ics, or I suspect that it updated when he turned on wifi, as auto update was ticked.
So I root, flash speedmod kernel and reboot to recovery to be safe from the bad bug, then install a custom ics rom over the ota stock rom?
One question please. So I'm on stock ics from ota. After flashing speedmod kernel and rebooting to recovery, is it then safe to wipe cache and dalvik after doing this, and before installing a custom ics rom?
Many thanks again..bowled over by responses to a noob from respected xda peeps!
Okay, I'm on the Speedmod kernel and already the stock ota ics is visibly smoother. one step at a time!
Speedmod kernel is.safer.then stock.and disabled emmc erase cap command to remove brick bug. But still to be safe side avoid unnecessarily wipe as well.recovery function till that's not must. Here nobody claim 100% safe like gb kernel.

[Q] Flashing TAJB over Darkyrom v10.2.2

Hello,
I have samsung galaxy S i9000 and i'm using Darky's ROM v10.2.2 (android 2.3.4, JVQ). I want TAJB. Can I flash TAJB over Darky's ROM using CWM?
Thanks.
Absolutely, yes
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
Personally if I want to go from a GB to JB ROM, I flash ICS first and then flash a JB ROM.
What I do is:-
(1) Wipe Cache partition, dalvik cache and data factory reset.
(2) Install zip from SD-card --> Flash ROM (I flash SLIM ICS ROM here)
(3) Here you might experience Boot Loops. Dont worry, just remove the battery, put the battery back in and try to goto recovery (the toughest part - It takes me a lot of attempts to goto recovery).
(4) Repeat step 2 --> Flash the ROM again
(5) Reboot.
Repeat the process from ICS to JB rom.
Hopefully this helps
I ask you because DarkyROM needs lagfix + system lagfix enabled. So if it's REALLY REALLY possible, thank you
P.S: Must I turn off lagfix?
It's always a good idea to do a full wipe if you're moving over to any of the Jelly Bean roms.
I'm no dev, but the partition layouts are different and if you have a lot of apps already installed it may cause major problems.
So I suggest you do a clean install. You should also try the CM10 Alpha build by pawitp, it's very fast and quite reliable.
I hope this helped!
Thx!
So, I'm going to do full wipe, turn off lagfix, install ics first, then do another full wipe, finally install jelly bean. No need of odin.

[Q] JB to GB downgrade failure?

So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?
Thx in advance!
Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe
It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Exactly.
I had this issue too when downgrading to GB. Wipe Cache and Dalvik and you should be ok from then on.
Wow. A lot of replies in just a single day. You guys are awesome
Now you say that the KK5 is non-wipe. Are there any GB-roms which are wipe, so to speak? Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.
But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?
I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default
Thx for all the replies!!
If you have downloaded the xxlsa rom then it's inside the rom zip file. Path system/app/GoogleServicesFramework
