Hi guys, I was reading a review about the phone and I saw a picture that intrigued me...Is the dialer more similar to the S 3 then to the Hox? I mean, when you start dialing does it show all the names or numbers (like sense 4) or just one and a number of how many more exists?
Thanks in advance.
It shows just one number, plus the number of other matches, whittled down as you type more numbers in.

Thanks Benny, so now it is more like the S3. When I went from the One S to the S3, I missed the dialer, but I think that it is the new way...

It shows a most likely match in the top area (with the contact picture, etc). It also shows a count of the other matches... Never used a S3 before, but it's not like my old Sensation with Sense 4. I'd post a couple of SS's to show what happens when you post more numbers, but I can't figure out how to get them off the phone... >_<;

is there an app that will change my phone number to what ever i want? my sister says she has a friend that has it on his htc but she doesnt know what its called and i was just wonder if there was something like that?
its probably an HTC android phone... and its likely a VOIP app... I dont think there's any way to broadcast a different number when calling out using your regular cellular service. You can BLOCK your number!
I could be totally wrong and someone can chime in here if I am.
will my sister said she was playing with the phone and it can pretend to be any number but she says she doesnt know the name XD
Damn.. I remember back in the g1 days I used a apparently that I could put what ever number I wanted to show up on the persons caller id. And it would let me change my voice to a high pitch or low or just normal. If I find it ill let you know.

haha its ok you got me excited though XD
still looking for an app like that !
for all i know there is none for WP7, there is one for android and iphone named BLUFF MY CALL.
This sounds like a good app just hope it comes to wp7
The only other thing would be getting a google voice number, and using an application such as GoVoice. But once you get the number, its that number only.
FREE though
Hello All,
I just received my HTC XL in the post this morning - what a beauty!
I am experiencing some issues with my SMS messaged I am hoping someone on here can help me with. Some information that may help:
*I am using the standard messaging app
*My contacts were synced from google
Problem: When someone send me a text message its displayed like this:
Bill (M +61 4672 .... ) Hey how are you
Why does it show that its the mobile number then displays the mobile number? This is really strange and doesn't need to be there. I have look on the display options on the phone and not seen any option to disable this. What is even more strange that it only happens with certain numbers so other messages come out like i would expect them too
Jane: How are you
Anyone else experienced this? I have looked at the contacts to see if it was the way i was storing them, both of them listed at Mobile, and both had the international code in front +61
finally, I am aware people recommend handcent and other messaging apps - at the moment i would like to stay away from that and try to get this working.
I have tried going into google contacts and making sure the numbers are assigned to “Mobile” or “Home” Making sure all my numbers are consistent i.e +61 and no spaces. Still no luck. It is so annoying as I know it’s a little change I have to make as it works for some contacts
any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
It shows the number because Bill (to use your example) has more than one phone number stored in his contact. The messaging app therefore shows you which number the conversation is with.
Jane obviously only has one number in her contact, so it doesn't need to tell you which number you have sent it to, because she only has one.
this is how it works on mine, anyway.
People can have many numbers, and you can send SMS messages to landlines as well these days (well, in some places) so it is beneficial to know which phone you are sending messages to.
If i were to send an SMS to my friend with a very offensive joke, I doubt he'd be too happy if I sent it to his work mobile, that his company have full access to, so it's good to know I'm sending it to his personal number instead.
Don't worry, it's not playing up or doing anything wrong, it's doing exactly what it is supposed to.
Hi Mate, Thanks for the reply.
I think its a buf of some sort with the default message app. I understand what you are explaining but this should not be normal behavior - when I go to select someone (e.g Bill) it should prompt me for which number i want to text (i.e home or work)
Anyway - i have looked through the phonebook and this happens when someone just has a mobile number and no other numbers. Funnily enough if i enter a new contact using the phone (and even adding several numbers) it works as normal (just showing the name followed by the message) so most of the contacts that have come through on google sync has this problem - i think this is where the issue comes from.
any other ideas? does it work on yours?
Cheers
All my contacts come from google also. But mine does as i explained above. if the contact has more than one number saved to the name, it shows which number the text was received from.
If the contact only has one number saved to their name, it just shows their name.
Can't say i've ever noticed it do any different. Pretty sure my previous HTC phones with Sense did the same, but can't say i ever paid that much attention to it. I receive the messages, so afaik it is working properly.
I have a different problem. My sxl doesn't seem to receive messages anymore at all. I tried to send myself messages as it was bizarre that I didn't receive messages anymore but nope. They don't get to me. I got a rooted phone though didn't play around too much. Anybody knows how to get rid of this problem???
you tried a different SIM? Just to rule out the network having an issue?

Thanks for the quick reply.
It is definitely not consistant as I have just checked again and it only happens with some of the numbers. This is the 3rd HTC phone I have had and its never been like this.
For me, showing the number on the text conversation is useless - when your SMSing someone you will almost always use their mobile.
anyway thanks for assisting - i will try digging around for the solution. I really dont want to use handcent or any other sms app as they tend to slow it down!
Unfortunately my phone has a sim lock. I conntacted my provider (am in France w Orange as carrier) and they told me from their site everything's ok, I doubt it though as my sms don't arrive. Ruined my weekend that sh**.... I tried a different sms app (go sms pro) didn't work either.

I noticed in an earlier post you said it was rooted?
Did SMS work before the root or did you not check?
Maybe go back to stock as using a RUU replaces the radio. Not that this should be affected, but it's always good to go back to the start and work forward
It worked fine being rooted w/o any problems. I think this started a couple if days ago, the phone though was rooted for some time now but yea maybe I should go back to basics... I wish I could avoid that though.

No probs. Are any of the contacts linked to other sources like FB, Plurk, Twitter, SIM, etc?
---------- Post added at 12:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 PM ----------
If it's locked, do any of your family or friends have an orange FR SIM you can try just for 5 minutes?
See if their SIM will receive SMS while in your Phone. If their SIM works and yours doesn't, then thats a pretty conclusive proof it's a F-up on your SIM.
Unfortunatley, then it's back to arguing with Orange to get someone to accept this and look into it.

Maybe just try a clean install of the ROM you are using first. That may solve it, if you haven't done that already.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using xda premium
Well, its definitely not a sim card problem. I will try to reinstall my Rom maybe its going to change. Point is I can send msgs w/o problems and when people send me msgs their delivery report sais I received them, they just don't show up in my msgs. Fingers crossed that flashing a new Rom will make it work...

Hi,
For some strange reason in contacts, at the top it displays my number, this is incorrect as I ported my number from Orange to three last year....how can I change this? It also displays the wrong number in status in settings!
Thanks

Oh I'm glad it's not just me, it's rather annoying as if I share my contact with someone they get the wrong number!
Looks like the number comes directly from the sim card, there is a work around of putting the sim into an old android phone and changing the 'own number' field in settings, unfortunately as I am at work I cannot try it until I get home tonight...

Bit of a pain but it has to be done.
At least now I'll be able to keep track of myself by calling the number and finding out where I am!

How the fu*k do you search for a number in contacts? If some one has XXX XXX 999 and friend aske me: who has this number 999 at the end? On S4 you just typed 999 and it showed you all the numbers containing 999. On One it only searches for name with letters WXYZ...

Why not use the google search widget? It'll f**** pretty much find everything on your phone with 999 in it.

If you have "disabled" the original Sense keyboard then the match functionality is lost in dialer as well .. happened to me once

I'm running Sense keyboard no mods (ARHD 13.3, so pretty much stock), but in dialer typing the last three digits of a number will only match names not numbers. I have to use the google widget for that.
My previous phone, Nexus 6, had this amazing feature which would string together all photos from each individual sender. Meaning that if you clicked on w photo, from stock messaging app, from a particular sender and wanted to see what other photos they've texted you, whether it was from the same day or a month ago, all you had to do was swipe to the left or right of the photo and it would automatically take you to every other photo that the sender texted you, without having to back out of said photo and go scrolling through all messages to find other photos.
Question is, is there anyway we can get that feature working on the G4? Or could someone point me in the right direction of how I could try to get this working on our G4's. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Probably should be asking this in the G4 forum, not here.
I was about to say the same thing... Lol
I get that. But I still have my Nexus 6 also and I was wondering if anyone here knew of a way that I can copy and change that feature to get it working on my G4 also guys.
