What does "Activation" mean for unlocked versions? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I noticed on HTC's website that their return policy says "14 days from activation." What does this mean if you're talking about the unlocked carrier free version?
Is it day you receive your device? Or is it 14 days from ship date? Because depending on what shipping option you pick, that would make a big difference.
Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

If I take it literally.. The word "Activation" should be the device itself.
1. Activate the device = Start it

maybe its just generic paragraph

Should I return my Diamond

Hi,
Just a quick one and looking for opinions.
Yesterday I managed to pickup a diamond from a shop. I was told it was direct purchase i.e. not sim locked to any provider. So I paid going retail price at 750 canadian for it. Get it home to discover the $#$#$ thing is linked to airtel and sim locked. I managed to get the network unlock code and it can now use my own sim card.
If I hard spl it I figure there should be no difference at this point between mine and the HTC released version.
Does anyone see any other reasons I should return this for a proper version that I requested.
Would you let it go and continue as above or return to the shop and rip the $#$#$ a new one.
I have to return home in a few days and need to make up my mind.
Thanks!
Well.. depends if you're a principals kind of guy. However, if unlocking it was a breeze and didn't cost u any real agony, why get yourself all worked up over it... Maybe you should send an e-mail to their headquarters if it's a big storechain...
Yes, I know what you mean. Perhaps what I meant to directly ask others if they see any technical reason this phone would now be any different then a standard unlocked version direct from HTC. I used a network unlock code from a specific website to do this.
If anyone sees a reason to be worked up ... i.e. the minute I flash a new ROM onto this it may not work because some providers ID is in there, then yes I will go back. But, if network unlocking provides the same benefit as just having a direct unlocked model then I dont really care and will just give him my email feedback.
thanks
Seeing as you paid Canadian dollars for it, I assume you are in Canada? If so, you might want to return it or at least keep the option open for the next week or so. It's looking like the official Canadian release version from Telus is going to have an extended battery and possibly more RAM. The word floating around is that it will be available first week or so of August.

[Q] Unlocking tmobile usa HD7 a sure thing?

Hey guys I've asked this in some thread before but never got an answer. I live in Canada and was thinking of telling my friend who's in the US right now to get me a contract free HD7 from tmobile so I can unlock it and then use it here. So I just want to know if it's a 100% sure thing that the phone can be unlocked before I buy it since I won't be able to return it in case it can't be unlocked. I don't want to end up with a 500$ paperweight since I've read that some people couldn't unlock theirs.
Because if it's not a sure thing, I guess I'll be getting the optimus 7..
Thanks!
T-Mobile will give the unlock codes after you've been a customer for a certain period of time. The length of that period and what happens to it when you've bought the phone at the unsubsidized price are somewhat variable and honestly I would not rely on this happening if you are not a T-Mobile customer.
However www.htcimeiunlock.com will probably be able to unlock the phone; I personally unlocked an HD7 in 15 minutes with their service. Bring a laptop or something and check the IMEI right in the TMOUS store before completing the purchase -- the site will tell you definitively whether it has the code for your specific device.
Like I said I'm not personally going there. My not-so-tech-savvy friend is so I can't ask him to do that. But do u think that eventually after a certain period of time that ALL htc phones' unlock codes will be available or are some just never unlockable?

It's almost certain that it will be available now. And if not, it will be soon enough. I wouldn't worry about it. Worst case scenario is that you have your not so tech savvy friend call tmobile and get the code for you. It shouldn't even come to that though.
I am having trouble getting my HD7 unlocked. I tried www.htcimeiunlock.com and it does not recognize my IMEI. I'm trying to get it unlocked at a different website and they have to contact HTC directly to get the unlock code.
Hi...
I bought one from T-mobile and he told me after 45 days I can call him to give me the unlock code.... But I couldn't wait and I used this website cellunlocker.net to unlock my device and it's working without any problem....Thanks!!!
I also ordered an unlock from Cellunlock.net last week.. Still waiting on a code for my HD7. Apparently HTC is way behind on providing codes to the unlockers for newer batches of phones. Getting annoyed either way, I have this HD7 in Toronto that I can't use.
It's a sure thing as I am using a T-Mobile HTC HD7 on FIDO, so the phone is unlocked. I'll sell you mine if you are in Toronto. T-Mobile phones are different band so you can only get Edge data through it. Kind of sucks if you are use to 3G speed. If you are going to use the phone on Wind then it's same band and you will get high speed data. Anyway it is possible to unlock - I've been using the phone on FIDO for almost 3 weeks now.
I have used www.cellunlocker.net to successfully unlock two of my HD7's. Codes came via email within 30 mins, both times.

I have an unlocked model of the S10, I enabled developer mode but no OEM unlock?

I did some google searching on this issue and I read that it requires to wait 7 days. Is there any way I can skip this waiting time and get the feature now? I dont understand why the owner would have to wait this time to begin with.

I went into date and time, turned off automatic and set the date 1 month back. Check for dates (after installing all updates prior). Restarted the phone. Turn on automatic date and time, check for updates, restarted. I still dont see the option.
Are you sure that works?

First question would be what you mean by unlocked model?
Carrier unlock doesn't cut it. You must have either Exynos version or Chinese/Hongkong version of Snapdragon phone (SM-G9700, SM-G9730, SM-G9750.) If not, no root.
Second, set calendar ahead not back.
Unlocked is vague. Is it carrier unlocked or bootloader unlocked?
It is both carrier and bootloader unlocked. I should of been more specific. Sorry.
I'd still like to know the purpose of having to wait a week before this option exists? So I could have a lot of progress made on my phone with downloading apps with its data and have a bunch of contacts (which can be backed up with Google) but then the phone needs to be wiped for the bootloader to be unlocked. Seems like it would save a lot of trouble to just have this available from the start with no hassle.
I found out that even though I own the unlocked model of the phone it is bootloader locked because its the US model with Snapdragon. I thought unlocked model meant both carrier and bootloader and getting those carrier models would have the bootloader locked. It makes no sense why Samsung would be hell bent on locking down even unlocked models. I just hope this doesnt screw me out of root.

Well yea, it means you're screwed out of root. It's been common knowledge and widely discussed on XDA for a few years now that US Snapdragon phones aren't rootable.

I want to make sure I have a firm understanding for the future. So every model of Samsung phones from the US will have its bootloader locked and the only way to have an unlocked bootloader is to get an unlocked international version?
For someone that lives in the US where would I even get my hands on this? Retail stores is out of the question I assume but what would I look for online.

You can find them on ebay or Amazon among other places. My experience is seller "never-msrp" on ebay is reliable and offers means to buy warranty
in US. You are looking for model nos. SM-G970* (S10e), SM-G973* (S10), or SM-G975* (S10+) where asterisk is either an "F" for Exynos international version or "0" (zero) for Chinese/Hong Kong Snapdragon version. It's up to you to read and learn which type offers the features you like best. Frankly, more reading and learning before buying would have saved you from the situation you now find yourself in. But, hey, we have all been there.

Question Downgrade Firmware

I just got the phone from wonda, and didnt think to ask for it cealed. but I want to unlock the bootloader. As the phone has been updated, I can't unlock the bootloader and I don't know how to downgrade it, the downgrader tool says no packages yet, and trying to local update to an older firmware says it cant because its older, anyone have any other way of doing this?
Congrats on getting you X Fold.
Not an answer to your question unfortunately, but have a question on your experience with Wonda,
How long from when you ordered till when you received it and approximate location it was shipped to.
I heard that Wonda was quick getting it here and wanted a confirmation of that. I heard that Gizmo, another option to order from takes about 20 days to get to me in Toronto, Canada.
Appreciate your feedback on this.
Also curious why you want bootloader access on your Vivo... any specific plans (maybe something I should also be considering, if I get this phone)?

Yeah, im in the uk in it took 3 days from ordering to get here. im considering returning tho and ordering a sealed x fold so i can have a chance to unlock the bootloader.
Edit: the reason i want to unnlock the bootloader is because i cannot live without root lmao
Yeah, I have heard by default they are known to open the box and update the software for the customer but you can send them a note when you purchase to leave it in the sealed box. If you do, then you have to deal with a translator to get it going yourself in Chinese until you can get to the language settings, but of course if that means you can get access to the bootloader then I guess it it worth it for you. Its a shame the downgrader tool is not working for you.
Thanks for letting me know how your shipping went, being in Canada, I have heard that Wanda is quick, and three days is amazingly quick to the UK.
Good luck on whatever you decide, from what I have seen in reviews, looks to be an excellent phone that you will enjoy.
I am really interested in it also, but recently found out the VoLTE 4G (voice over LTE) is not working on the phone in Canada from one of the members who is also in Canada with the Vivo X Fold, so I am pausing on this and looking for a solution, if there is one.

Question Pixel 7 Verizon Demo unit

Hello all, does anyone have experience with demo units, I want to buy one from eBay and send to my brother who is not in US it is brand new sealed but I don't know will that work with their local gsm or it is usually locked to Verizon? What else I should know about this item? Thanks
No direct experience, but every post I have seen from people that get them is that they are useless. They are locked in demo mode and nothing you do will get them out of it.

If you insist on purchasing that device, you could always try and check the IMEI at an IMEI checker to at least see if it is blacklisted from Verizon (or any other carrier); because you will not be able to do anything about it even if it would be sent to another country.
That, and sometimes there are website services for a carrier where you can enter the IMEI to see if the device is "compatible" if/when you can "bring your own device" to the carrier...
but beware there is a scam that is going on that have people getting a device on a plan, them selling the phone for a high price, the buyer checks and sees that it has a clean IMEI, but after a couple of months of non-payment to the original carrier that has leased the device, they blacklist the SIM and the device no longer will work anywhere while the seller runs away with whatever they sold it for... That's why it's good to call the major carriers, give them the IMEI and make sure it's not under any payment plan or anything...
and of course if the seller isn't willing to give an IMEI, then that is definitely suspect & shady and should not be bought from that seller...
Don't buy Verizon phones, demo unit or not. They are always locked down to their network and you can't modify them due to their locked bootloader. Also, they have garbage re-sell value because of this. Don't waste your money. If you really want a p7 and $350 is your price point, wait for a sale when the p8 gets ready to launch or keep your eye out for a good sale going on for the unlocked, non-carrier based version.

You might do better and get a better response in the appropriate device forum (Pixel 6)...
But as it seems your device is being managed by (what I assume is) an IT department for (what I assume is) your work device, I doubt they'd allow you to install a custom OS on it as well as you not getting into trouble for modifying a work device. At the very least, they'd find it an annoyance; at worst, they'll see it as some sort of security breach and would be immediately turned back and you reprimanded...
