My HTC One arrived last week and one thing I've noticed when using it in the dark is that there is a sort of backlight bleed at the bottom right of the phone when the Home and Back capacitive touch buttons are illuminated - see attached photos for illustration.
It's not that noticeable in the day, but definitely is in the dark - especially once you know it's there!
Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know whether this is normal or if it's some fault with my model, so any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Eeek thats going to drive me crazy. I hope that isn't all of them.

No longer have the issue, it's gone by itself.
Very tiny leak but I doubt it will impact on any of the phone capabilities, if its annoying you ,wait a couple of months until early batches are cleared ,then replace the phone ,but as I said its something I could live with.
Checked that on mine. No problems.

Just checked on my one, never noticed it until you said it lol. It's in the exact same spot
Hmm, if they could fix that it would be nice. I wonder if putting the case on can mask it up!
Mine ok, im glad, its only minor but would do my head in. . .
Not on Mine
just got my one this afternoon and have just noticed the light bleed on mine, not as noticeable in the light (like a small semi circle) but in dark looks like a left slanted triangle from home button and another bleed up side from the bottom right corner.
Also have this issue. It's just the LED from the Buttons coming through a small crack. Nothing to worry about.

Hello -
I have noticed that when I expand the keyboard on my Tilt, it's tilted slightly to the left. The upper right corner is just a hair higher than the left, even when the screen isn't actually tilted. This doesn't really affect anything but since the Tilt is brand new, I want to exchange it for a new one IF this is a real problem and could indicate that the hinges are off, etc.
Has anyone else noticed this?
thanks, Dave
It's the same for me, I don't think it is a defect, depending on how much it is tilted. For me it is bearelly noticable...
Same for me too. It was (I thought) very noticeable when I first got it, and now I only notice it now and again. No-one else that I've shown it to has.
Hmm... Well, it IS pretty subtle! I can live with it no problem, and I didn't notice for the first day or so. I just want to make sure it's not a defect because i wanna exchange it right now (while I can) if it is.
I've noticed that I can make the screen perfectly horizontal by pushing down slightly on the upper-right corner of the screen when it's expanded/tilted. It just springs back a couple of millimeters when i let go!
Anyone else have this issue?
Perfectly normal
The center of my screen ripples as if under pressure when I use the sliding feature. It is visible on my nearly solid blue background.
Anyone else have this?
You can notice it right before the phone is fully slid open.
Thanks!
i've seen this to you can avvoid it by making sure your screen is pushed all the way back before sliding in or not pulling it forward until all the way out. i've never noticed a problem with it.

Mine has always done it, sometime in two places, where the "wheels" are.
After being in my pocket for some time, there is a rainbow effect on the screen. I can change the location of this effect if I push elsewhere on the screen; however, it seems to concentrate itself right in the center. It has no ill-effect on the touch screen but it is visible under certain angles when the screen is on. I am using the screen protector that came with it. After some time being out of my pocket it dissipates and looks normal.

Yeah, I have.. I haven't noticed it's touch sensitive, but I've seen the problem while rebooting and also randomly while using the phone.. And it seems like for me the screen gets progressively worse and starts losing all contrast and fades to white. A reboot always fixes it.
My guess is something in the video drivers flips out. But the first time I saw it I thought I had a hardware problem because I found it that way in the morning out of the blue, but I guess it had started doing it 'itself' overnight or something.

I dont think it has anything to do with the screen itself. But the digitizer and the multiple layers on top of the screen that the digitizer is composed of.
Newton's rings isn't it?

Yes that is exactly it - the diffraction of light between 2 surfaces, is it normal; however?
Thanks!

Nooo, then maybe what I'm talking about is different. I'm talking crazy screen, weird 'rippling' going on, screen slowly turns more and more white. I know what newtons rings are.. It's sorta visible in sunlight.
So perhaps I'm describing a different issue. Mine is definitely something with the phone, not the layers.
I just got a tilt about a week ago and ive noticed that in the middle of the screen there seems to be a purple greenish tint when put against incandescent light. The size of said glint varies in size but i'm unable to see what changes the size. Not sure if its heat or pressure or something. The touch screen works perfectly its just really annoying to always see such an annoying glint.
An interesting discovery is that when i press all four corners of the screen it disappears and when i press in the middle of the little square it seems to spread out. I feel like theres some kind of material or something in the touch screen that is causing this due to pressure. I keep it in a hard case in my pocket so the screen isnt pressed on inadvertently.
I've searched the forum for any answers but i havent seen anything about it. Any response or help would be greatly appreciated. I'll try to get a picture of it up asap but i left my camera at a friends house and dont know when im getting it back...thanks in advanced

Do you see the same "annoying glint" under neon light (not day / sunlight)?
Lots of NOKIA and SONY ERICSSON phones for example get this screen recolorization under direct sunlight - this has nothing to do with the screen being defective but with the plastic above the screen which breaks the light and shows you this colored spots. If you can't see the same spot under direct neon light then this might be the cause.
It is normal that you get color changes while pressing the screen in. First of, you press / bent the protecting plastic and the liquid within the screen which causes the incoming light to break in a different angle, therefore the color changes. (BTW: you shouldn't do that too often, it can cause permanent stains on your screen!).
There sure is the possibility that your screen gets pressure from underneath due bad assembling! If you're still under warranty, try to get a replacement.
yeah you cant see it in day light. but i feel as though there is constant pressure on the screen between the plastic and liquid since the spot is always there and doesnt really go away (unless of course in daylight).
well im thinking im going to go back for a replacement. thanks for the quick answer!
Looks as if I'm going to have to join the return game on this device. I've been a very happy TF700 owner on CROMi-X for the last year and still had that WOW effect when I started playing with this tablet.
Until it got dark.... I mean - the attached picture is with the tablet in sleep mode!!!!! That's gotta suck the battery dry like nothing.....
Opened a ticket with Asus for what it's worth...
I'm going to update to 4.3 manually, but don't expect that'll do much.
Does anybody have something similar?
Edit: After about an hour of reading the screen dimmed and had dark shadows on both sides. I flashed the 4.3 update manually since the System Update wouldn't - now everything seems to be fine.
Light bleed gone when in sleep mode and no shadows either... ?????????
Weird, glad you got it sorted out.

Wow - good outcome - never seen anything like that - keep your eyes on it obviously

Unfortunately it's not resolved to the point that I feel confident to unlock.
I still have have weird and uneven dimming of the screen. Sometimes just part of the screen dims and shows a dark, uneven shadow across it (in reading mode). What I don't understand is, taking a screen shot in that situation shows nothing of the shadow....??
What I consistently see is when the screen times out, it dims just before it turns off, but only on part of the screen (more or less the left half, but fading out from left to right).
Smart Saving is off.. Can't think of anything else to try...
I'd hate to return it, but I think I'll have to - this does not inspire confidence....

Smart saving has nothing to do with smart dimming unfortunately. You can only turn smart dimming off if you are rooted. I'd take it back and get a replacement as what you are seeing is not normal.

Never seen this on any tablet.
To me it seems that some parts of the Led backlight are not working correct or totally not.
Better try to get it swapped or Rma'd ASAP.

I was filling out the Amazon return form and picked it up 'cause I got a notification about new mail - and that's when the digitizer gave up completely.
I was able to wipe my data by hooking it up to the TV and got it to reset with a lot of huntin' and pecking.
A replacement is on it's way. You gotta love Amazon :cyclops:
