The only update I did was one year back through the update available on settings. Android 3.2 kernel version P7300 JPKL2.
I didnt do much else because I was concerned about the safety and reliability of other softwares. Am I missing out something huge really by not updating? Is Android 4.0 or 4.2 or whatever is latest compatible with my device? Is it better to update through Samsung dealer or it makes no difference doing at home ?
The ics update is way better than what you have now, honeycomb. If your still stock you should be able to get the OTA. Not sure where you are but its in most places now.

The easiest thing would be for you to do an ota update. Make sure your tab is well charged, then go to settings, about device, and select update software. Follow the prompts and you should be updated to android 4.04.

I am currently residing in India, but I brought my device from the middle east. I tried the update option available in settings but it says "no updates available". :crying: I then sent an email to samsung support.
PS: I don't know what "stock" or OTA is.

OTA is the upgrade On The Air
stock firmware is the original samsung firmware
OTA updates (using the settings > update to download update direct to the tablet, and not using a computer) requires that Samsung is ready *in your region*, or specifically in the region the tab's current software is linked to.
You could just grab any package from sammobile, and install with Odin. There is a variant for India available.

On this forum, or Google, you will find info on how to use odin

Is there a way to change the region my tab is connected too? From the firmware site, India does show up a ICS. But the country where I brought my tablet from , United Arab Emirates, don't have one. Maybe thats why I get "no updates available" message.
And do I loose some kind of a warranty if i update using Odin?
Thanks.
Yes, technically that would void your warranty. Some people who don't mind sticking Samsung with the bill will still send there tab back when they break it. The problem with that is that eventually device manufacturers may see that a lot of the devices that they are replacing were messed up by android enthusiasts taking advantage of the open nature of the platform. That gives them a financial interest in making closed platforms, and the community looses.
The upside is that if you do screw up your tab, the community has gotten really good at figuring out how to fix these problems. A little (or a lot) of reading is all it takes to find an answer to most problems.
I definitely think you should read up on odin, clockwork mod, and the roms available. You could have ics or jb on your tab with relatively little work, and it will be like having a whole new tab.

Installing a rom on this tablet seems more complex compared to what I used to do on my windows mobile. Is there any way to install the rom without the need for using a PC?
As far as i know, from ics, you need to use odin to flash cwm.

When i contacted them though mail, they said middle east OTA would come in 2 weeks. I decided to wait for that.
But i was wondering would there be a jelly bean OTA update for 8.9, now that 10.1 got a jelly update? http://www.ibtimes.com/android-412-...-available-us-how-install-it-tutorial-1018162
That article is for the 10.1 note, not the normal 10.1. As far as everything I have seen, it seems there will be no official JB for our tabs.

I've asked on LG's facebook and they stated there are currently no plans to update the P880g.
What really ticks me off is that, now that the P880 has an officially-unlocked bootloader, any work that was done over the past year to unlock it is now dead. Those efforts could have let us put our own custom ROMs on the phone.
I don't care if LG or the Canadian carriers don't want to put JB on the P880g, but at least unlock the bootloader before abandoning it to obsolescence.

Agreed. LG doesn't care, abandoned it in the Canadian market, only to focus on their optimus G. Too bad because I like LG's designs. Never getting another LG smartphone.
I just found some cause for optimism: LGE Canada stated this in a Facebook comment on May 21:
"Jelly Bean will be available for this device. You can stay updated at: http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support-mobile/lg-LGP880G"
A link to the comment (apologies for being mobile): https://m.facebook.com/LGCanada/posts/10151924019794377?_rdr
This is particularly interesting since before now, LG had been stating there were no plans to release any updates. Something seems to have changed their minds.
Since my P880g is a developer version, I can't receive updates either OTA nor through the LG Suite (they don't accept my IMEI). So I have no way to check the availability of any update, other than checking the KDZ scanner sites. If anyone with a P880g gets a software update, please let us know!

Sorry just had to
I emailed LG Canada a while back, asking for any more info:
I'd like to know if an update to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) will be released for the LG P880G phone. Most other Optimus 4X variants worldwide seem to have the update available, but frustratingly the Canadian variant does not.
Most information found online suggests there is no intention to make the update available, however a statement made by LG Electronics Canada on its Facebook page claims otherwise (https://www.facebook.com/LGCanada/posts/10151924019794377). No new information has come out since, and one is left to wonder whether that statement was in error.
Any clarification would be much appreciated!

What really gets me is that they won't even outright say there will be no update. They're being intentionally vague. And now I have no idea why the earlier Facebook comment stated so clearly that there would be an update... I don't think lying would really be in their best interest.

Maybe as LG are supposed to be releasing another update with unlocked boot for P880G.
Hello everyone
So first of all I wanted to inform you that they are not an expert ..
Then we move to the "problem":
I installed the soak test out yesterday.. -> [5.0.2] [OFFICIAL] [XT1068] Lollipop Indian OTA Captured <-
So I have not registered on the site to become a tester, and hope to be approved..but by the news yesterday I downloaded the soak test of 'os, I put on internal memory and I did look for updates and exited.
I installed it and that's fine, but my concern is:
I have invalidated the warranty?
i Receive all future ota smoothly as if I had not done anything?
sorry if I do not write well, but are not English.
Hey @djblankino ,
If you unlocked the bootloader then your Warranty is void.
You'll recieve all future updates if you do not modify the ROM in any way, i.e.. Rooting, Custom Recovery etc..
Hope this answers your doubts.

Do not think I've unlocked the bootloader because I only put the zip in memory and updated via ota.

Your warranty is with Amazon, not Motorola. EU law allows you unlock the bootloader and change the software on your device without voiding the warranty. If Amazon refused to accept the return of phone with a hardware fault in the EU, they would be breaking the law. Ignore KrishnaSagar's post; your warranty is still valid.

Good news for us UK users...
I used to be able to update my rooted devices via Kies with the guaranteed 'official' Samsung ROM... ('cos OTAs don't work on rooted phones)
Kies says S2 Tab isn't supported, and to use 'Smart Switch' instead. Does Smart Switch upgrade firmware??
TIA
Anyone else have the 5.1.1 update on the s2 8.0. I'm still stuck on 5.0.2

Yes, you can simply flash one of the available 5.1.1 versions from other regions.
Will work just fine, and you'll notice no difference.

Yesterday at night I did it. I've used the Canada version but this one it doesn't have the "Mange Apps" in the Smart Manager to Auto-Stop the apps. I wanted that but can't know for sure in which one it's enabled.
Does manually upgrading with ODIN mess up KNOX and the tablet's warranty status? I'm on 5.0.2 as well.

No, official firmware does not trip knox.
Unfortunately for the T815Y there is only 5.0.2, no 5.1.1 released yet...

I haven't had any problems with mine. I have some Samsung apps disabled but I don't think that's the fix. Are you sure yours is T710 and not some other variant? Did your KNOX counter get tripped?

Mine's the T810 which was originally running on UK version 5.0.2. I rooted it, flashed a TWRP recovery and flashed the Canadian 5.1.1 version. KNOX was tripped when rooted.
Oh right. I did a Google search about your problem earlier and found out you have two disable a service or two if the same thing happens on the Samsung S6 Edge . Read the ROOT YOUR PHONE AND UNINSTALL KNOX part.
Any word when the OTA update to Android 5.1.1 is coming for the Galaxy Tab S2 in the UK?
It's out for other countries. I'd rather not have to doing anything unofficial if I can help it, especially when it's been out in other countries for some time now.
Thanks

As I understand it the Android 5.1.1 update from Samsung isn't available in The UK but looks like it is elsewhere. My Tab S2 is still stuck on Android 5.0.2.
I'm waiting for Samsung to release it OTA than installing firmware intended/released for a different market.
Thanks.
The firmware is identical aside from a few apps here and there.
Only the csc is different which doesn't have to be flashed.

Android 5.1.x brought with it bugs fixed too though?
hi guys,
my phone has developed the screen brightness fault when its turned up fully. so my question is... where can i get the official EE UK(carrier) rom so i can downgrade to marshmallow in order for me to send back my phone without the warranty being invalid. I dont want to send them my phone only to be told its invalid because i updated to the official rom via xda website or some excuse saying i will be charged X amount of money for time being wasted. I do hope that oreo comes out soon but when i upgraded to nougat on this phone it was a pain in the ar$e :/
thanks in advance!
