Press buttons under water - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to know if it's safe to press power button and volume rocker when the phone is submerged... I've read that it's safe, but I have my doubts.
Ps. Any news about the mod that turns the power and volume buttons into camera controllers?
Thanks! :good:

Yes it is safe, it would be too easy to bump these by accident if you were taking the phone underwater... Meaning Sony would be in for a lot of replacement waterlogged phones.

App for locking volume buttons?

Yes, I constantly accidentally hit the volume buttons. Is there an app that can lock them, so they only work after I enable them in the app?
Really? My favorite thing about the phone is that the volume buttons work when the phone sleeps. That drives me insane about every other phone/mp3 player I've used.... having to dig the phone out of my pocket and wake it up just to adjust the volume.
How are you accidentally hitting the volume buttons? Just curious.
One thing I've been wanting to request is a way to make a long-press of the volume buttons be forward/back a track. That'd rule.

When I go from portrait to landscape, by the time I'm done, I see the volume change window on the screen. I don't even know if I hit the + or the -.

[Q] Volume Button Issue

When I press the volume button to raise the level I am having issues. The phone will bounce back and forth one level between raising and lowering the level. After a good 30 seconds of trying this I get lucky and the volume raises. When I try to reduce the volume I have no issue.
Is anyone else having an issue with this? I feel that this is a hardware problem but I am wondering if this is a possible software issue.
Any help will earn my eternal love!!!
Perhaps this is related to the Safe Volume Level warning dialog box?

I don't think it's related. It only happens when the volume is at minimum.
nope nothing like that here. i am having a power button issue. it seems to be too sensitive. if i barley tap it it turns on the display. Is your moto x the same?
Try tapping the volume button not pressing too long. I'm having the same issue but I figure it out how to use it.

[Q] Volume rocker buttons not working

My HD7 is around 2 years old and the volume rocker buttons are not functioning. I have to use a pin and press it sooo hard then only it works, I know it is strange but that is how it works. Cant press it with my finger. Also the camera quality has gone down.. Any suggestion? can I open it by myself and repair the volume rocker buttons?

Volume Button Issue

I may be completely off here and imagining it but does the volume down button feel less "clicky" then the volume up button to anyone else?
No need to open three threads about basicly the same

Volume buttons can be pressed with screen off.

Hello.
I've had this problem for a while now but can't fix it.
Basically my volume buttons can change the volume of my phone even though the screen is off and "locked" (just lockscreen).
I can't imagine this is meant to be like this? It means my phone goes to full silent all the time when it's just in my pocket.
I think the problem came with lollipop because this introduced volume change from vibrate to silent mode by pressing the volume down button.. apparently in my pocket only the volume down button is pushed - and why I never noticed it on kitkat.
Thanks

So you have this 'problem' as well? It's not a bug on only my phone?

its not a bug just the option that you can control the volume even if the phone is locked
You should not wear those skinny jeans!
Never ever had this kind of problem since the Zs` volume buttons are quite unlikely to be pressed unintentionally.

Why would you ever want to control the volume if your phone is locked? It only allows for unwanted volume change

I don't have skinny jeans at all and it happens around 5x per day if I'm walking a lot.

For example if you are listening to music and you dont want to pull the phone out of your pocket.
Maybe there is something with the vol button sensitivity

Ok sure but that's media volume not ringer volume. They are separate.
Anyway I wrote a tasker script to force lock my volume when screen is on but locked. And it disables this force lock when screen is unlocked. Tasker to the rescue once again

what the vol buttons depend on is what you are currently using for example: If you are using the Music app then the control the media vol and if you dont use anything then they control the ringer vol but nevertheless I am glad you found a solution

Exactly.
So it should be: when using music, allow volume buttons. If no music: lock buttons.
