I bought an S3 Mini yesterday, really happy with it but the kernel is doing weird. I have an enormous battery drain.. 10% in an hour or so.
So I installed GSam Battery to check what's going on and I found out that my kernel was the problem. Anyone else with this problem and maybe a solution? Since I know this I disabled lots of apps that I don't use.

So, recently, my battery life has gone to ****...mostly due to Android OS. I'm running MonsterRom 1.2. I just SBF'd the phone clean yesterday and restored apps via MyBackUp Root and TB. I made sure not to use a hand backup because I figured that would restore system settings causing the issue to re-surface. Any help would be much appreciated.
EDIT: I understand that this isn't a drained battery, but the volume of use remains proportional when the phone is nearly dead.

Me too
I've also had a similar problem on both copies of the droid 3 I own. Can't seem to find the answer. Anyone had any luck out there?
Looking into it further
There is a great thread here.
I installed betterbatterystats and turned off syncing for instant upload and Google Docs to see if that would help. Also, com.motorola.blur.service.sync.engine.wakelock.task seems to be a possible culprit on the wakelock side of things. It would be nice if we could put this problem to bed. Besides this and not being able to receive SMS with images in it (I think it's something to do with my provider, Koodo), I love this phone.
Assuming that the phone is rooted, download a app called battery calibration from the market, charge your battery to 100 percent or 4200mah,give the app root access and tap calibrate. You should be good. When changing roms it is important to calibrate your battery. Also you can do the same thing by booting to cwm recovery and erasing battery stats.

Possible progress here
Removing the calendar widget, docs sync, facebook sync and instant update seem to have made a significant improvement over the last couple of hours. I will update as I get more data.
I should note that I'm on .890, I have rooted and debloated except for blur (I want the calendar app unless someone else can suggest a better one), motoprint and task manager.
Hello XDA developers and users ,
I would like to share my serious ANDROID OS problem which causes battery to die in 10 HOURs only WITHOUT using it !
it just drains the battery hour by hour quickly .
I have suffered a lot from it besides i don't have enough time even to use the phone when the problem exists , and i won't change my 2.3.3
carrier's stock Gingerbread because it supports my language { the middle east languages which I always in need (the main disadvantage in official samsung firmwares that doesn't provide all languages ) }
the issue drives me insane i won't even download many apps and a lot of saves until i get something or an update to , but i don't expect 2.3.4 update soon in carrier's stock roms,
In battery Use option , u can see the CPU Usage and the percent % and it reaches it's peak sometime to 60% and 2 hours of use
I read about a solution , " Restart the phone and it will solve " etc,, but it doesn't really help me , to experience such a great and fantastic phone features ,
I thought i would share the problem here , so the developers and users will help , or link and show me a good rom with middle east languages
The pictures attached below . ( Ignore the Wifi line because it doesn't really affect on the issue )
Thanks .

Is this on heavy usage or medium, light? My galaxy S lasts about 15 hours if I use it very heavily, say lots of web browsing, apps downloading, youtube, music, Angry Birds etc. etc.
On light usage, as in minimal use of stuff mentioned above and only primary use is texting and receiving calls, listening to music on locked screen, etc. it lasts up to 2 days.
That's what i meant, it must last up to 2-3 days with light usage , but unfortunately this problem prevent the phone from providing longer life battery .
Ouch.

The massive drop is due to a phone shut down (reason unknown)
3g no data
2g with data
3g with data
The workings were simple: set the desired network (2g/3g) and select data active/inactive, charge to 100% and use normally until 20%. No apps for battery savings were used. With the data active tests i had gmail and facebook sync. (although these were active in both 2g/3g with data tests i was more inclined to check facebook during the 3g part because it loaded faster)
Tests were done using
Rom : ParanoidAndroid Build 7
Kernel : Harsh 2107
BB/RIL : 725/622
I will post another test with 2g vs. 3g using battery 2x (app i use to save battery)
In the next test please post a screenshot showing Screen on time =D

Hmmm
Looks good...but i think you used your phone in 4 days only few ours to get this, right?
i used it as often as i needed it but the data being inactive it was used only as a phone (as the old nokia 3310) for calls and text (and the ocasional picture). I think it's a good indication that smartphones do not have bad batteries but the fact that they are used as a smartphones gives them the bad autonomy (see test 4)
But nobody want a Smartphone (dualcore) to use it as a 90s cellphone.
My O2X in 2G with data just work for 12hrs in a normal job day (i´m a doctor using a lot of medical apps, making and receiving several phonecalls, 30mins of GPS, whatsapp texting and taking an average of 10 pictures/day). Not using battery saving apps.
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband/RIL: 218
Kernel: symbiOsis v1.1.2
RAM HACK: Total RAM 468MB
ROM: Gueste2X 3.4
For me, the battery is drained by media and Google services. The Google services is understandable, i use Google Now and services like that, and I don't mind it. But the media is a mystery. I tried formatting my data partition, even reflashing the ROM but to no avail.
Anyway, I tried using other FWs, but the same thing happens. I have no idea why though... Any one having the same problem or knowing the solution? Please help, thanks!

Mediaserver (Media) is the service that handles all pictures, videos, musics in your device, including finding the files so they appear in your album/walkman and providing the file when you're trying to view them.
If you listen to music or see videos or pictures, it's normal that it will take some battery away
dude i have the same problem with battry drain my mobile battry dead in 7 hours 52 min in genral use like whatsapping, massagng and spme time facebook and i have 2g network. i dont know why this battry drains so faster earlier ihave xpeia sola and it stay near 11-12 hours appox with 3g network
i am also having this kind of problem.
battery backup is not upto the mark.
mediaserver takes around 20%battery and google services also takes large amount
Hey all! I think I found a fix (by messing around).
Go to titanium backup, and freeze media storage.
That solved the problem for me
However, you have to unfreeze it to take screen shots.

For Google services, I turned off location reporting and disabled GPS to save battery.
Now my batt goes at 0.5% per hour

I should start off with, my phone normally ends an at least 12 hour day with ~40% and over 5 hours today, It had dropped to 10%. I have barely used it because I unplugged it to go to a doctors appointment, so not much use there, then for like 3 hours at home on my desk while I've been doing stuff on my computer, so almost none there either. Another confusing thing is that it says that "Over-Counted" used 32% of my battery but >3000 mAh?

Also, how do I spoiler, there's no button
We can't see your pictures. They are on your google drive apparently. If I right click and open in new tab it shows them, one at a time.
Using Google, I found "over counted" is the new "Miscellaneous" in Marshmallow. Are you on a Marshmallow ROM?
Some relevant threads using Google search:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQue...ble_battery_bug_since_andorid_m_over_counted/
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/3osxfl/what_is_over_counted/
You basically have to go in and find out WHAT in the new Miscellaneous is causing your battery drain.
Many people have reported high wi-fi drain with Marshmallow, that could be your issue. There are ways to limit that -- @iiWoodstocK has some great settings. Or you can flash a custom Lollipop ROM (like CM12.1) while you wait for the bugs to be worked out.

I'm using CM13 and It didn't update or anything, this happened randomly. Anyway, how do I "go in and find out" the details, it only shows me the computed and observed mAh usage. Also, I should have updated the post with that info but yeah I basically found the same thing.
I'm still on CM12.1, so I'm not sure how to investigate the over-counted stats on Marshmallow.
