HTC One Wireless Tethering? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure what options we will have right off the bat for tethering, but I use tethering daily, so I must ask. Will this phone include it's own tethering option or will we have to wait for someone to release a mod to do it? Any info helps from those people in the know about the phone. Personally I'll have a T-Mobile HTC One.

Actually I think he's looking for the inverse, which I've seen people look for before. I don't think I've seen a solution though.
I think he wants to do the oposite. Use the internet connection that his laptop is already using so that his G1 gets internet.
If that's the case, then please pass your phone to the nearest person and go read some internets...

Question is, why would you want to? Only reason I can seem to think of is if the laptop/desktop is connected through a wired connection, meaning you have no wifi at your house. If you do have wifi, and your laptop is connected through wifi to your ISP, then your phone can also connect with it's wifi adapter to the same AP.

Wow I just assumed he wanted to use the phone as a router.
I was sharing internet through BT and Wifi for some time, but did not succeed to do it over USB. Beside there is one big problem: even if you will set everything on linux level and have internet in your phone, Android will not know about it. So apps which don't make checks for internet connectivity will work, but these which do, will be waiting for internet. I've found some workarounds, but that problem is really frustrating.

VZW Moto X tethering

Anyone able to tether with a VZW MX2? Foxfi?
Sure. Easy using built in tethering.
I assume this means you have paid tethering? I am on unlimited, can I add tethering without losing unlimited?

Yes, I'm on a family share plan. While you can set up a plan to pay for tethering, I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't have to. Do a littleore research on foxfi and some of the other tethering apps.
I don't necessarily want to pay, just want to be able to do it and keep unlimited. I don't have my phone yet (est Oct 27) so curious if anyone has been able to get tethering to work with foxfi or similar.

From what Verizon has told me.yes you can, and you will have unlimited tether.
I have unlimited data and no tether plan, just tried to setup the mobile hotspot with no dice says I have to pay 30/mo for tethering. Been using EasyTether which works - I hate having to install separate apps on both the phone and pc to do this, but it works which beats the alternative.

Thanks for checking, did you try both FoxFi and built in? Are there any other hotspot apps that might work?
I am really hoping to tether my tablet from my phone, so the EasyTether won't really work for me. I also use my phone to tether my chromecast and tablet together...so bluetooth isn't the best option for that either.
I presume once root is achieved it will be possible, so I will have patience just hoped it would be an easy fix
If possible, I am curious about the same thing. Can someone install FoxFi and see if it will work with Moto X?

Damn, I was afraid of that. Wifi tethering is essential for me. Thanks for letting me know.
With respect to wifi tethering (via Foxfi or other), someone suggested the need to encrypt the phone, which then (somehow) permits wifi tethering to work. Before I spend the time doing so, I wanted to see if anyone has heard this as well and/or attempted it?

What they mean encrypt the phone is by putting a password lock on the phone. Even if you do it, it still gives you the error message seen above, "WiFi tethering blocked by carrier"

Any options for tethering apps (non-root) for Sprint G4?

Hello,
Anyone know if FoxFi or other techniques work to tether the phone with a laptop to get internet from the phone onto the laptop? I know I can pay Sprint to subscribe for the hotspot feature, but I feel it's unjust because I'm paying for data already (not unlimited plan) so I feel it would be unjust double-billing to make me pay for the data twice essentially.
USB cable methods would be fine, in addition to bluetooth or wifi. Anything?
I tried a few of them and couldn't get anything to work. Root can't get here fast enough.
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
Foxfi doesn't work. Confirmed yesterday.
I am attempting to gain my MSL so I can change some APN settings and setup hotspot using foxfi and trick the authentication through the APN like on the S6.
This phone has been a real pain the rear trying to get access to things.
how can you get your msl, call Sprint?

you do not have to call Sprint to get your MSL/SPC - method described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521276 worked for my LG G4 Sprint
Can you please provide instructions for enabling hotspot via foxfi without root? I can get to APN settings screen via ##3282# but there is no field "APN Type" on this phone
PDAnet+
If you haven't looked at it I would suggest PDAnet+. I can't directly link to it but the web address is pdanet.co. I personally use it with the USB Tether and it works flawlessly, for the most part. What I mean by that is if you don't have a koalality USB cable you WILL run into some issues. I was using my old G2 cable not realizing it was shot and would drop the connection and corrupt big downloads. The Free version has a few restrictions, but for light or general use I don't think that would be a major issue. I bought the app as I use my G4 as my internet on my PC . I game with it and download things with no issues. I downloaded all of GTA 5 (60gb) with no major issues either.
Could you elaborate on what is a koalality USB cable? I searched google for "koalality USB" and nothing came up.

LOL, he probably meant quality
USB cables are not born the same. Personaly I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere to test the USB cable. You will see a huge difference in Amps between good and bad USB cables using the same charger.
hah thanks, didn't catch that. OK will try out both the PDAnet+ app and the Ampere app and see how they work.
So Much for pdanet+ says it's not supported by our carrier.

USB and bluetooth both work fine with foxfi (paid) on the phone and pdanet on the laptop. I suspect but haven't tried that pdanet on the phone in conjunction with pdanet on the laptop will work as well.
Foxfi, Tether It, and WiFi Tether Router are all working.
Just confirmed that pdanet on the phone with pdanet on laptop worked.
PDANet on laptop and FoxFi work beautifully for USB. WiFi tether doesn't work for me.

it used to be possible to enable stock tethering by changing APN Type to default, mms, dun , but I no longer see "APN Type" in the APN menu

I also used Klink, which is a paid USB tether with nice configuration features. I used PDAnet before Klink for USB tether, but could never get its Wifi tether to work when the native hotspot was still disabled.

Hey there. Just a couple of questions. Do you have Sprint, unlimited data, the latest OTA, and was it on LTE?
I tried today, September 22 for the first time and almost immediately got the pop up. I have Sprint unlimited with latest OTA but was on 3G with the pop up.
I followed these directions which I think is the same, http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-enable-wifi-tethering-on-sprint-lg-g4-without-root/ but wasn't sure what they meant when they said, "f it works good but if you get a popup saying “Due to network issues, tethering has been disabled”, you need to follow the same steps again but instead of selecting Internet in the APN settings select ‘cinet.spcs’."
Thanks.
Brad

PDAnet+

Heya folks!
I noticed while looking at the Sprint Q&A section someone want to tether without root. Well I use PDAnet+ for USB tether and it works very well! I have better cell service where I live than home internet so I use my G4 as my internet. I haven't had any major issues. I have downloaded GTA 5 and play that pretty regularly with little to no latency issues. The free version does have some restrictions but for general browsing I think it's perfect.
I can't post direct links due to being a newbie but the website is pdanet.co. Alternatively you can just good PDAnet+ and the first result will be the website as well. I use this app daily with no major problems so if you have any questions about the quality or want a screen shot of my speed let me know and I can try my best to answer any questions.
P.S. I am not responsible for any charges you may recieve, Sprint DOES have a tethering so they MAY contact you about this. I haven't been notified as of yet and I have around 150GB of tethered data thus far.

I haven't tried the bluetooth feature yet. I use the USB tether because of the internet share feature when using USB and the PDAnet software on my laptop. I still need WiFi for other devices such as my TV and Rand McNally Truck GPS. PDAnet was a big save for me when I could not root.
Do you have any connection drops using bluetooth? I lose bluetooth connection to my speaker system about once a day.

Yes.. I have notice connection drop using Bluetooth. Not sure why? If I need phone charge I use USB tether. Your right WiFi has other benefits like for multi devices. I'm a big fan of WiFi but Bluetooth or USB tether will do for now.
I rarely use WiFi on Rand McNally Truck GPS. I use my phone app to stay up to date with the weather.

Did you know that if you use USB Tether on PDAnet that you can use the WiFi Share (beta) on the PDAnet software on your computer. It seems to work very well. Only problem I have had is it shows up for bluetooth as an option also, but I can't seem to get it to work with bluetooth. I get an error 19.
edit: I just got WiFi sharing to work with BT. Had to reboot the computer.
Awesome!! I just tried it and it work. I connected my Rand McNally truck GPS thru WiFi Share (beta) using USB tether than I tried BT and WiFi Share on my laptop worked as well. Now we have USB Bluetooth and WIFI using only PDAnet.

Yes. Usb tether works this way. And to tether through a pc and use the pc to create wifi. However, pdanet will also activate the native wifi hotspot capabilities of the phone itself. When I open pdanet+foxfi and hit "Activate wifi hotspot" it turns on the wifi hotspot of my phone. No pc involved.

You are correct the FoxFi part of PDAnet does have WiFi but it only works for us if we are paying for the hotspot and it then uses our allocated hotspot data. ie. I pay for 6gb a month and it will use that up. With that being the case I might as well just use it directly from the phone and not use FoxFi. If you are not paying for hotspot I do not believe it will work. If I'm wrong I'd like to know though.

Me paying an extra monthly fee for Wifi is not going to happend. This is why we need root among other things. If your Hotspot Wifi is activated on your phone then there is no need for PDAnet
It seems to have the same problem regular hotspot does for me after update. Keeps asking me to purchase plan. Have to reboot and quickly turn on. Glad that works our I'd be sol. Anyone else have a reliable method? My APN settings are locked out also now.

Even if paying for Wifi, PDAnet does still help (not with wifi but with USB or BT tether) by not using up are allotted data. I go through my allotted data rather quickly. I'm an over the road driver and use internet for many things to include weather on my truck gps, normal things such as email and system updates, and for entertainment (Games and movies).

I'm OTR myself and I know what you mean. I use my laptop for everything its my entertainment system. TV, movies, software, games I rely heavily on tethering my laptop with my phone. I even D/L movies and save them for later where there is no Internet like the Rockies. Thumbs up for PDAnet 2 thumbs up when root is here.
I'm thoroughly aggravated. I have Boost mobile plan with a hotspot. As I live on a houseboat, it's very important to me and 8gb isn't enough. A Boost rep gave me foxfi info. But I get error that my provider won't allow hotspot so I must tether or bt. Now I downloaded foxfi on ex who has Boost but not a hotspot. He can use the option of Foxfi hotspot, tether, or bt. I'm thinking of buying separate phone just for this.
Please verify with me is foxfi working with sprint gs7? I am thinking of upgrading and need to know what phone to get. please advise, anyone?

I am the same. Not so much movies, but all sorts of software. If I had to rely on my laptop for visual entertainment as well, I don't think it or me could handle it. I already fill up 5 virtual desktops, switch between windows and Linux and would punch my own mother in face for, like, 500% more screen space, or even just the ability to lower the dpi or increase the resolution past 1366x768... But currently, even with an alfa 36N and 9dBi antenna, the WiFi here is just plain ****. The burger King WiFi accross the street is better, but I can't can never get the login page to come up. so my phone is my sole Internet source.
I will say one thing, I really regret going with the nougat beta. I've been meaning to revert back so I can reroot because the Hotspot was unlimited and much more stable. That and the beta is super sluggish, at least for me. Some of the newer features were cool, but not nearly worth giving up root. But I let it get to the point where backing up and making the switch back will be an a 6 hour engagement, and I keep putting it off.
Amazing thanks
