No, Dev Unlock is not sufficient for this and currently we don't yet know how to escalate privileges in WP8.

So long story short I don't want HTC to have any info about what I'm doing with my phone because I've had a major issue with that in the past and I want to unlock it, root it and get s-off still. So with having a completely stock m8, sunshine is the way to go for me? Sorry if someone already posted something like this.
You can try Firewater first since it's free.
Am also sure you need to be rooted to s-off which means you need to unlock the bootloader using htcdev.

I'm aware of that but I'm asking if sunshine is the only way to unlock without htcdev at all. Period.

Ahh okay I see now so it gains root access by it's self so it is currently the only way to s-off with htcdev.
I know of no other method.

Alright so this answers my question then. Kinda wish I didn't have to pay $25 but the freedom having my phone and doing anything with it w/o htc knowing is worth it

If Firewater had worked for me I would've been more than happy using HTC Dev with it. Just because you are requesting an unlock code from HTC does not prove that you actually used it so it's debatable whether using it or not has any real impact on their knowledge of your intended uses for your phone.

I personally had a horrible coincidence where my phone was not properly functioning from day 1 and I happened to have used htcdev so they had more than enough reason to blame me for the faulty components and charged me money to fix it since unlocking it voids the manufacturer warranty. So if you're fine with telling htc that you're unlocking your phone that's fine, I'm personally not going to do that again as long as I have an HTC device.

What state did you return the phone in? Was it still unlocked and rooted? S-Off? Did you attempt a faux-lock/s-on or anything like that?
To contrast some of the horror stories that people have regarding returning a HTC device for service, @Captain_Throwback has sent numerous devices to HTC and has never had an issue. His devices were rooted & S-off.

Why cant you root with HTCDev?
im not sure that the warranty will still be okay if we unlock it
plus the phone is from orange and it might not work

you will loose guarantee either way as the bootloader will show as tempered. More chance to keep it valid if you use the tools HTC provided.
Orange should work just fine. Just try...
On another note i sent 2 phones for repair to HTC "unlocked" and they never charge me for the repair.
yes, i was thinking of only gettin root and not unlocking bootloader

You can undo the root and unlocked bootloader, before you send it to HTC. If you cannot undo because you have too big problems with the phone (frozzen phone,...) they cannot controll it either.

what can i do with bootlooped nexus ?
hi all
sorry for my bad English
my nexus is bootlooped and locked , the oem (what the hell is that google?) is not marked , and i've read 4 topic in here and have founded there is no way to fix it
so the only way is : send it for replacement ?
in my country Moto doesn't have any representation and i must send it to another country like France to change it , my question is : does Moto change it for free or do i have to pay for replacement?

If you send first it should be free unless they have a small handling fee. If they send first will put a hold on a credit card for the amount it is selling for now. Will remove charge when they receive the device.

someone with hardly any experience i see. if you have twrp recovery, there is a chance. if you dont have twrp recovery, and you cant boot up to enable oem unlock, then you have no chance. no as in zero chances, no matter how much you disagree.

Doesn't matter if you disagree. In this case you are incorrect.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader of a non-booting device that complains about allowing oem unlock.
Hi. My droid turbo is currently on the September 1, 2016 security patch, build number MCG24.251-5. There is a system update available for a later security patch that I know fixes sunshine.
This update bugs me every time I restart my phone and I have to disable motorola update services every time.
There is also an issue where the volume control stays on the screen forever after adjusting the volume until I touch the screen. I was wondering if the latest update would fix that.
My main question is does sunshine support the droid turbo for the MCG24.251-5-5 build/latest security patch? If so, should I update?
Thanks.
If your bootloader is not unlocked, you should unlock your bootloader NOW. Do not take any updates past your current until you unlock your bootloader.
The next OTA (MCG24.251-5-5) -- which you mention -- blocks Sunshine.

Nothing "fixes" Sunshine, it's not broken. MCG24.251-5-5 BLOCKS Sunshine.
Why don't people UNLOCK their bootloader first chance they get? I don't understand waiting. Waiting for what? Then one day the OTA installs when you're not paying attention, and then you're locked down forever.
EDIT: IF your bootloader is already unlocked with Sunshine and you have TWRP installed, you can safely update to firmware which includes that OTA:
[ROM] MCG24.251-5-5 100% Stock
https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/rom-mcg24-251-5-5-100-stock-t3565795
You would flash that with TWRP. Once your bootloader is unlocked and you have TWRP installed, you never need worry about "OTA" ever again. Any updates will be posted here in this forum, which you can flash easily via TWRP or other method.

If you're asking if the update will undo what Sunshine did and re lock your bootloader, the answer is no. It is safe to take the OTA ONLY if you unlocked BEFORE taking it.

NO. If you update before unlocking the bootloader you are screwed.

There's some people who keep asking the same question again and again when they don't like the answer.
At least you haven't updated yet to the point of no return. You can still unlock your bootloader via Sunshine, and then safely update to that firmware.

You're worried over nothing. You can save your data off and you won't lose your streaks:
If I log onto Snapchat on a different device will I lose my streaks?
Nope. Your streaks are saved onto the app's server. So, if you log into another device, your streaks will remain. Just remember to send at least a snap to each other daily, though!

People have logged in for friend's to keep streaks alive, logging in from other devices. You just save off your data you don't want to lose (pictures, videos, etc). When everything is configured, you install Snapchat back on.

Unroot only if you have an app that needs it or you want to remove unused apps completely from your system folder. Otherwise there is no point. You will still get updates with an unlocked bootloader.
