These docks for the Kindle Fire are on clearance at many Targets for $17-$30 and you can get them from Warehouse Deals on Amazon for around $20.
With a few modifications to the provided dock replacement, you can use this as a dock for your Nexus 7.
Will post pictures soon... But it comes with two plastic docks to place on top of the clock, one designed for the Kindle Fire and one designed for any tablet. The problem is the one designed for any tablet makes the cords for audio and microusb come out of the back the clock, instead of being secured to the dock. By drilling into the alternative dock and securing the audio and microusb cable, you can dock the Nexus 7 standing up vertically.
I'll post pictures soon!

I've just made the switch from iphone and need a new cradle and fm transmitter for GPS navigation in the car.
One slight complication is that I have just ordered a Otterbox defender case which going off the iphone version is quite big. I had this problem with the iphone and the solution was to buy a generic / universal cradle that can be adjusted to the otterbox dimensions. The Streak however has a the charging dock in an unconventional position which means most holders obstruct the port with the clamp. Therefore I am on the look out for a case which with the following capabilities:
1. Fits the dimensions of the Streak + Defender Case
2. Keeps the charging port free
3. Keeps the audio jack free so that I can use something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360367214309&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I have found a couple on ebay:

Do you guys think one of these will be ok or do you know of any better solutions?
Thanks
I have the one you posted in your first link and all my cables fit just fine. Hope his helps
I have purchased one called (ClipSlip) or something like that. You should have Otterbox impact. If you could not find I will share the link later.

Heres another one i have in transit now for my kayak, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190482313896&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I only need the holder for the kayak so i can use my navionics on the ponds and lakes, i have the mount already mounted in the yak and use the fitted holder out of my car when i need to.
Just google SlipGrip for dell streak with Otter Impact.
Thanks for the advice. I went for the 1st link in the end. The slipgrip looked really cool but decided a universl one is more versatile e.g. sometimes my girlfriend puts her iphone in the cradle.
Cheers
If you're looking for a nice murse for the Streak 7, this one is awesome:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DZRMFW
It fits the Streak 7 pefectly, and can also carry your power/USB charger, headphones, HDMI dock, and/or a few other odds and ends. I even carry my wallet and my wife's GTab in it, sometimes.
It uses adhesive to secure the device. Smart-cover type functionality it appears from the video. Looks sweet. Anyone want to pull the trigger?

You do it, then you can tell us all about it.
This might be the best out there atm, wish it was designed for the Nexus so u wouldn't have to have that flap (have it attach like the Ipad)
I'm not gonna spend $40 on a case that isn't designed for my device.

I agree that this case looks great. I actually prefer this over the magnetic smart covers, as the smart covers do not protect the back of the device. I have ordered this off of Amazon, and will get it in the next couple of days.
The Nexus 7, however... I'll probably get it next week according to Google's E-mail on the matter.
By the way, there's no doubt in my mind that this will work for the Nexus 7:
Both Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire have a "rubberized" back, so if the adhesive works on the Kindle Fire, it'll work on the Nexus 7.
base x height x thickness for Nexus 7 is: 120 x 198.5 x 10.45 mm
base x height x thickness for Kindle F is: 120 x 190.0 x 11.40 mm
What that means is that it'll have a small bezel of ~4mm on the top and bottom of the device (thickness of <1mm will probably be negligible on a case)
Case is "open" and not blocking any ports/buttons (since Kindle Fire has no buttons on the side, if the case had a covering on the side, it would've screwed the Nexus 7's buttons)
Regardless, since I will get the tablet within 30 days (which is the return period for Amazon for this case), I'll try it out and update if it's worth keeping or not for the Nexus 7.
I don't see any better case coming out for it (I prefer a small, sleek case like such), since the actual smart case design (like the ones for the iPad) is patented by Apple, and you know they're going to sue the crap out of any other company that makes it (since they're very sue-happy).
I'm going to pass by best buy tomorrow and see if I can find anything decent that fits...if not I'm ordering this.

I have this case for my iPad and its by far the best case I've ever had. I hope they make a nexus version soon.
I had this case for my Kindle Fire but unfortunately I sold it along with the Fire when I ordered the Nexus 7. That said, I'm fairly confident that it would work just fine with the N7...the adhesive is very strong and should have no problems attaching to the back of the N7. I took the KF out of this case several times without any issues getting it to stick to the adhesive when I put it back. My only concern would be that because the KF is slightly thicker the case might have a little extra "give" with the N7 when closed.
It's a very sharp looking case, though. Highly recommend for KF, should probably be fine for N7. Using mine without a case at the moment but considering going back to this one.

Modded Joystick Joypad for Google Nexus 7
See Attached Images...
I modded this "Oregon Scientific Meep! Tablet Joystick" to use for the Nexus 7.
Issues to address/mod:
1) Meep has USB Mini Male Connection
2) Overall internal dimensions are too big for the N7
3) Color looks too kiddy
The Meep! came with a male USB Mini connector, so I had to make a cable with - USB Micro B male (nexus7 Side) --> USB mini A female (joystick input) - while using a piece of network cable to extend the overall length for the connection. I also used plasti dip rubberized coating to make the joystick black. Foam adhesive weather-seal helped secure the device and took up excessive space that the larger Meep! tablet occupies. You can rotate it 180 degrees and the tablet will not budge inside and it also feels very safe inside
Why Make This?:
I did this because there is nothing physically integrated (unless you pay $499 for a wikipad) and using a separate joystick is kind of a pain if your laying on the couch or in bed. I needed something to accommodate lazy ass mode. Granted it is limited to 4 direction buttons on the left and 4 push buttons on the right, you can still use the on screen buttons if more are needed. I'm usually on emu's most of the time so it suits my needs... Maybe if there is a large interest in the community, someone with manufacturing capabilities will make something like the WikiPad joystick for our 7" form factors with SixAxis like abilities... Until then, I had to mod one...
Project cost: $7.67 ($20 best buy reward card and many parts from the garage)
Minimum Cost: $~30.00 (if you don't have any parts on hand or discount cards)
Any Interests on a How To?:
If it strikes an interest please reply and I'll share the mod details and requirements. Don't feel like posting a tutorial right now if nobody is curious. I consider it to be a lightly-moderate level project. I'm sure this will also work for other 7" form factors like the Galaxy Tab and Kindle Fire, but I have not seen their cable configurations, so I would have to have look at one beforehand.

Modded Joystick Joypad for Google Nexus 7
$30 for everything or in addition to the pad?
The Pad looks to be about $25 from Best Buy:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Oregon-...lets/6456833.p?id=1218747934641&skuId=6456833
Does the Pad even fit in the unit? Or does the only modification require foam weather stripping and a M-microUSB>F-miniUSB? Because I have a Female Mini > Male Micro Adapter already: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Mini-USB-Micro-USB-Charger-Adapter/dp/B0018L4GOQ
I'm also curious about how the buttons feel. Do you have any issues with fine tweaks to the dpad and do the buttons have a solid feels? Doesn't seem too bad of a price for a unit like this that only needs a few minor tweaks to get working. I don't know if my cable would work because of the way the tablet sits in the unit. Probably require a 90 degree micro adapter.
$30 total.
A 90 degree otg is needed in order to fit properly. The inner casing was recessed to allow the otg connector to sit in and allow the device to center itself. Also, the cable was extended to allow the joystick port to reach the tablet. I soldered in a spare piece of network cable. A short cable will not work, without being extended.
Personally I've enjoyed using it so far. It feels more engaging to have the device your hands with the use of physical buttons.

Seems pretty simple and would probably be a cake walk if someone made a 3" 90 OTG cable.
I believe there are some cable retailers that probably have one, but the price is $12-15. I found it easier/cheaper to make one with $3.00 worth of cable from eBay. Not difficult, just a little tedious because of the wire sizes.

thanks for posting this. Although I wish the meep had more buttons, I have been on the lookout for something just like this for a while now.
Same here
Anyone find anything with more buttons or 2 analog sticks?
Submit this to kickstarter. Refine the design to perfectly fit the Nexus 7 (slide in like the Wikipad) and add a few buttons (mainly shoulder buttons).
Should be no problem to pledge the needed funds. The Nexus 7 sells very good and I estimate 30% of all Nexus 7 users are interested in this.
I have been looking for something like this. If there was a kickstarter project for this i would donate...
What is the port on the Joypad. You said it has a cable with a Male MiniUSB. Is it Full USB>Mini?
I'm trying to figure out how to make just 1 cable go from the N7 to the Joypad.
[EDIT]
Looks like the Joypad has a miniUSB in the middle of the unit point UP where the tablet would normally "dock". I can't find a 1 cable solution that would be perfect for this. Looks like splicing is the only option at this point.
You would need a Female Mini > Male Micro
I emailed NYKO about manufacturing a cradle style gamepad with updated buttons (analog sticks, and triggers - like a wikipad) and sent them a vid link. Hopefully they respond and give me their thoughts.
They have the manufacturing capabilities and already some current joysticks that feature all the remaining buttons we're looking for. I'm sure they can sell it at a lower cost than an kickstarter could, just my thought tho...
I also have a sixaxis,xb360, and a Logitech.... overall I enjoy the cradle style better than a separate controller for several reasons: no need for a stand, your hands grip the device and the screen is always located in line with controls, and you can sit/lay in virtually any position without worrying about the screen tipping over or adjusting your position. The device and controls feel integrated and as one unit. In other words, my n64 consumption has gone up and sleep has gone down.

hey man, it's an awesome idea, could you post a tutorial how to do it? I've been looking for a perfect gamepad solution and this looks like it is!
Is there still no after market solution like this for sale. Sometime is missing out on making a million bucks. I would easily buy one of these for $50 for my n7

To the OP. The way you have it set up, does the Nexus sit in front of the male mini usb plug that is attached to the case?
+1
Hi to all! I made the same joystick mod and... It's AWESOME!
But I have a little issue - system recognise joystick as keyboard. It is normal?
For setup keys i use USB BT Joystick Center.
I second the request for a tutorial on how to make this. I have found the pad and would love this mod.
Is it plug in play or what settings must be tweaked in order to make this happen?
Anyone have a video review or at least a written review on this dock charger?

Nothing about it to warrant the waste of. bandwidth for a video review. It charges your device + a 2nd stock sized battery. It will let you data sync if you plug it to your PC but nothing different than plugging your USB cable in will do. The device will fit with any single layer tpu or slim fit hard plastic shell, like the bodyglove tpu, rinkge slim, cruzerlite, mercury, fosman/generic s-line size TPUs, Samsung Pro+, Samsung flip cover, etc. The bodyglove/TPUs are about as thick as the spring mounted male USB will allow to fit properly. Most, if not all, hard plastic slim cases (type with top and bottom bezel exposed) will work. Other than that it's nothing fancy, definitely not a smart dock replacement, not without some extra parts and pieces. If you wanted to make it a semi smart dock you could connect an OTG cable to the data/charge port for the main dock and then have extras plugged into it like USB mouse and KB, external storage and either some kind of mirroring device or MHL adapter. MHL would probably be the best if you could connect it to the dock then the OTG and power supply to the MHL. I have this dock and a knock off "Sumsang" dual charging/data dock. I use the knock off more often than not. It's more compact, since it's about 1/2-3/4" high and mostly flat on top minus a 1/8" lip for the phone rest on the dock area, and it allows the phone to rest in portrait while docked or landscape undocked, which is how I usually use it just to set my phone in at night while my 2nd battery charges in the back.

I like to break stuff!
Sounds like it would do fine then I just want it to charge my phone and so I can use the dock to stand my phone up.
