[Q] Remove operator's "mees" from S III mini - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have polish version from Orange operator. They pre-installed some apps (totally useful because they can be used just in Poland) and welcome screen and this staff. I want to remove this and let there just really factory state original from Samsung. I tried factory reset and hard reset and it's still there. I even tried root device with unlockroot, but I really do not know what and how can I do to remove it... I'll be glad for any help. Thanks

You have to root your phone and then get a root explorer or something like it and go in root folder of your phone where you can remove those apps from system.

Things to not do (or to think about) after Root...for now

The users. First off I want to make this very clear, I am not responsible for anything nor is droidxforums for any damages done to devices due to root, since it was up to the user to make the decisions they make. Thank you, please continue to read.
1. First off I am posting this for reasons that were obvioulsy not too obvious.
2. If you chose to delete anything other than something that can be downloaded from the market, YOU took that risk. You have potentially just bricked your device.
3. DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING THAT HAS "BLUR" IN ITS FILE NAME.
4. DO NOT try to flash a custom recovery via Rom Manager then wonder why your phone is stuck with a cool new Motorola logo.
5. This thread will be updated very frequently, before posting questions and what not, just post your problem, no questions please, I will be using this to help as many of you as possible.
6. Most importantly do not mess with the framework right now, there is many $600 papers weights laying around now.
7. DO NOT TOUCH BACK UP ASSISTANCE UNLESS ITS WINDY IN YOUR HOUSE OR OFFICE AND YOU NEED A PAPER WEIGHT.
Thank you.

We tested this last nite,, you can do basically whatever you want as long as you put the phone back to pristine condition before you do a wipe or update or whatever..
Here is the basic method that works to copy files back to the phone if you took out bloat..
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/1462-how-put-back-backup-assistant-if-you-removed-but-arent-bootlooping.html
Works with all system apks, though.

It seems that no one knows for sure.
People have been able to root, re-copy any removed system applications ( blockbuster, skype, etc..) apply the .604 update and stay rooted
Only time will tell for sure
I only deleted Blockbuster, Skype, NFSShift, and AmazonMP3/Kindle apps. Would I need to put those back on and unroot if I wanted to do a hard reset?
From what I hear, you need to put back ALL of the apps that came with the phone to apply the .604 update
Un-rooting doesn't seem to be necessary

He is correct, we have had phones with tons removed, copied everythign back with the right permissions, took out all the things that root did, basically un-rooting, apply the update, then re-root, so you will have to put the phone back to pristine before the update, but it works fine.
At least it does for now. As for the rooting, it is a huge gaping hole in linux/android, not a specific phone or phone home launcher so it will likely not be fixed until at least Gingerbread 3.0 IF THEN. Bird really smoked the monkey on this one, i would marry him if it was legal.
But yeah, dont freak out if u removed a ton of stuff, here is a complete pristine system app dir if u need:
http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/
Zanix, thanks for updating into the post, i hope it ends up helping people.
Updated OP with direct link to original .apk list
Hey,
Where can I find a list of the correct permissions? I removed like 5 apps and copied them back and still the update fails.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Check the permissions from one of the files you did not remove
I'm not 100% sure that will work
It is 644 if I recall correctly.
I think you need to check the umask for each file as well
ON the post on how to put back backup assistant it tells you the permissions for all the files in the app dir
its in the first post
So I wanted to install a status bar replacement for Droid X, which involves replacing framework-res.apk. Instead of doing it through adb, I replaced the file with Root Explorer, and it sent it into boot loop. Do I now have a paperweight? =/
I tried doing factory reset, but that didn't fix it...
Edit: It sees update.zip on my SD card in recovery mode (some file I think I downloaded before), so is there a way to maybe apply a recovery command to replace framework-res.apk?
Edit2: sigh, nvm, there is no update.zip on the SD card, I'm not sure where it's reading it from. But when I tell it to apply it, it doesn't find it either. Looks like I bricked my phone
Has anyone been using Autostarts to block the bloat from loading on boot?

The Titanium Backup "Freeze" feature has been working like a charm for me. I've frozen all of the bloatware (the autorun stuff) and seen no adverse effects on the phone.
The phone seems to perform better without the running bloat. But this might be a placebo effect. The jury is still out...I'm testing. One thing is for sure, I feel better knowing that useless extra processes are not running in the background.
The big open question for me is how does the TB Freeze function work? Is it like the task killers or does it intercept the app on boot?
It does not change anything in the root directory since all the *.apk files are in tact for the frozen apps. This is the main reason I use the freeze since there seems to be little risk of bricking the phone with this method.

Hello,
I have a problem with my ATT Captive Android 2.1 phone.

Factory reset won't restore things you have deleted from the phone.. You're probably going to have to Odin to get things back to normal.
I did it, no help at all, maybe I load the wrong one I found Odin one click in dev forum on this site.

I was going through my phone and deleting bloatware. I deleted those three talk apps and was flustered after I realized what I had done. I put those three back in the designated folder system/apps. Everything works perfect again.
GENIOUS!!! I thought I would have to flash my phone again!!! Thnx so much!
I granted the correct permissions to the 3 files after copying them to the System folder, then MOVED them to system/apps and VOILA! It´s done!

O2x is Not satisfying

Hey all. I got the o2x for two weeks now. After the first week i decided to root it because lg stock ROM is ****. I am still Not satisfied! It is slow and laggy imo. Im currently using gilgamesh 1.2 ROM. I really think about getting another phone. I had a desire and to be honest this phone is Not really faster. I Eintrag care about playing games.
Sorry for my bad english.

well, then u should sell it now, get a good prize and wait for htc sens. or samsung sII
I had the amoled desire and this O2X is faster by miles. I think you didn't organize your apps properly.
The LG Stock ROM is **** I agree. I replaced the homescreen with LauncherPro and froze unwanted bloatware on the first week. The whole phone system is now much faster and light without custom ROM. Love it!
Not laggy
LOL dont know what your doing to your phone but 2x is one of the fastest phones on the market and may well be the fastest. You think this phone has problems i had 4 Sony Arc they are a nightmare soo many issues and problem with screen coming away from it housing, the LG 2x is well built and fast as hell cannot waiit for it to get Gingerbread and then Honeycomb will make this phone rock and roll even more
kan someone explain how to remove the bloatware from the LG ?
im still stuck @ factory rom, but i dont feel like flashing a new one
Root, install Titanium Backup and use it to remove the things you don't want.

1) get root
2) freeze/uninstall apps using Titianium Backup / use Root Explorer or sth like that if you know which apk's you don't need and simply remove them (remember to remount /system in read-write mode)
This phone has a rubbish stock UI but great potential, it makes it more a phone for geeks rather than the masses. I've rooted and loaded CWM along with applying the dexopt fix but am yet to go the whole hog, I'd rather see what tweaking stock does before i take the whole leap of custom roms.
By the way does anyone know where the facebook/twitter/myspace apps are so i can get rid of them? I've tried Root Explorer and Titanium but i can't see them...they are just unnecessary bloatware for me.
The apk of Twitter&Facebook by LG is called SNS.apk or very similar.

Well. I learned a hard lesson yesterday. I could root the phone and uninstalled bloatwares as I wanted and everything worked fine... Until I decided to do a factory reset. The first-run setupwizard cannot find a certain app and crashes at beginning (I think it was LG Home, not sure though) left me with endless bootscreen. After hours of headache finding solution to fix it I got the phone to revert to factory settings with nvflash. Now I don't remove system app anymore but to disable them. Easiest by "freeze" them with titanium.

I don't know any other way to push files without using Clockwork :/ If anybody knows please teach me.

[Q] Question about Rooting and Returning to Stock

My apologies if this has been asked before... I've spent some time searching both here and google, but I don't think I've found a thread that answers this question specifically.
First:
I've rooted (Using SuperOneClick) for the first time to use the "Battery Calibration" app (which works great by the way), but then started getting a little creative and removed a whole bunch of stock bloatware and other programs I don't use from my Bell I9000M.
Now, after using it for a couple of days, I noticed under WhatsApp settings under "About", when I hit the "Contact Us" button, it stated no Email App was installed (I removed the Gmail app, as I only use the built in Samsung Social Hub email). I didn't really notice if Gmail was the only selection in there to begin with, but it appeared weird to me.
So, while the phone was still rooted, I did a factory reset. After doing so, I noticed the phone was still rooted (I think - SuperUser was still there), and none of the Apps I originally removed were there.
Then, I thought I screwed up the Rom, so I used SpoofFW under root and manipulated the firmware version so Kies would allow me to redownload KC1. It did so, but after the ROM was installed, SuperUser was still there, but all apps were back.
I was under the impression that when you update your phone via Kies, it returns to full stock. Guess I was wrong.
So how do you bring it back to full stock, eliminating any traces of Root?
I've never installed anything beyond root... no kernal changes, new roms or anything else.. just SuperOneClick.
Can anyone help? Sorry about the wordy post.
SuperOneClick should offer the possibility to unroot too.
If not you'll have to flash an unrooted stock-FW (available at samfirmware.com).

Thanks for the quick response..
It does offer the ability to unroot... is that the only thing required?
I'm asking as we all know, when we uninstall stuff in Windows, traces of the program are still hanging around.
Android is familiar with Linux, not Windows.
If you unrot and uninstall all apps which require root nobidy can say if your phone was ever rooted.

Thanks pal... appreciate everything.
So all I have to do is unroot and basically install KC1 from Kies or ODIN to restore the Apps I've deleted and I'm good to go.
Again, thanks for all your help. I'm by no means anywhere close to realizing the true power of what this phone can do, its great to have knowledgeable people such as yourself to help people like me.
Thanks, but we all are here for helping others.
I am wondering the same thing. I'm new to this so I don't know how to check what was my stock version with bell mobility in canada.
I want to go back to the original factory default settings when I purchased the phone with bell.
Can you guys help me? thanks!

I need some help (error) downloading/installing lollipop on my Tab S 10.5

I rooted my tablet awhile back and did all types of things to it to make it that much better but now that lollipop is out I want to update. The problem is that every time i go to update it gives me an error message & says "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using samsung kids on your PC, or visit a customer service center." also I disabled my soft touch keys (back and app switch) and now it won't let me turn them back on which is a huge problem...
The question I have is how can i completely reset my tablet to factory files and settings? CAN YOU PLEASE PROVIDE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS. I know about hard reset and wipe cache during start up but I feel like theres more. Please help me out on this guys. thanks in advance
From the backup & restore section of the settings you can do a factory reset, this will put back to stock, then you can install the update even with Knox tripped it will then allow you to do an OTA.

I don't believe you can update your software if you have a custom recovery and root.

I don't want to do just a factory reset because I'm afraid of my soft touch buttons never coming back on because i can't change the system files because i wont have root anymore and than me being screwed. Also i don't believe a factory reset puts files back into the directory.

You will need to download your stock software or the latest Lollipop and install using Odin.
And you will obviously lose root and soft buttons with a factory reset.
If you modified the Generic.kl file there should be a Generic.kl.bak, just replace Generic.kl with Generic.kl.bak and rename that file and set it's permissions to 0644.

I ended up just downloading a 4.4.2 stock official rom and opened Odin, went and did the normal procedure on to load a ROM. The tablet passed and everything was working smoothly. The good thing was that it didn't erase all my data and apps. it just took off the root and made it like a stock device. then I just updated it with all the normal updates over the air until it was up to the newest one (5.0.2.) and BAM. We in business ?
