Music played at max volume sound distorted now, while SRS is enabled with bass toggle pointed 3 o'clock. Music was great until I updated the firmware tonight, with the same settings. Really killing my happiness with the phone.

I heard the latest OTA update reduced the sound volume. You can extract the sound files from the old version which may put you back before you installed the OTA update. Im using PowerAmp with the latest OTA and it sounds great. My phone is unlocked and rooted and I would like to flash the old sound volume files only - because there were some good enhancements in the latest OTA and I don't want to lose those enhancements. There are some other posts about flashing the old OTA but the ones I have seen looks like just the full OTA. I'm hoping at some point some one will come up with a zip that I can flash that will install the old sound configuration (increased volume). I wonder if they thought the higher volume would blow the speakers?

I dont think you are going to be able to do much if you are not rooted. Go ahead and unlock and root your phone - you will be glad you did. I used Sprint HTC One All-In-One-Toolkit and it worked great - took about a half an hour. This phone is awsome rooted.

That just seems like a huge amount of bass and doesn't sound as if it would sound good, regardless of what version you run. Nearly maxed bass AND SRS?
What is your EQ like?
Edit; I stand corrected. It sounds like enabling srs, at least for me, disables any bass. But I'm using viper4Android.. soo..

I actually was getting distortion on certain songs too even before the update. I rooted after 4 days I of owning the one I rooted tested some audio and came across Viper4android mod and it sound awesome with poweramp.

Hello everybody,
I'm pretty new to this device since i have swapped it two days ago so I would like a question about audio quality.
With the stock rom I had pre-installed the audio quality was samsung standard: not good but at least audible.
I moved to another rom (Overcome 7 v 4.1.0) which kernel supports voodoo sound.
I was really shoked when i listened to a song for the first time: bass and mid-ranges were just fine as voodoo makes them while highest pitches (and voice too) seems like playing miles away from me: they get all muffled whitout any apprent reason!
I double checked it wasn't a problem of my headset plugging them into my galaxy s and listening to the same song flawlessly.
Did anybody experienced this problem too?

True, much better with that.
Speakers volume
I have the same Tab with Overcome 4.1.0. It is a low volume level of speakers for making or recieving calls. Do you know what a problem is?

LOL, that isn't a solution!
Audio should be clear before applying any other effects (dsp or equalizing).
Btw I finally got the solution: it was all fault of Samsung's crappy headset!
I replaced with another set from another brand and it all works like a charm now!
Mods, you can close this thread.
For those who think the volume is not loud enough on the nexus 7, download the free app called Music Volume EQ. Open the app and click on the EQ button, this will go to the equalizer screen and you have to set the equalizer to "ON" and move all the 5 bars all the way to the top(move it to +15) and then that is it. You can close the program and keep it running in the background. I have not noticed any battery drop with it. It improves the volume alot. No root required.
How's the actual sound quality? I'm no expert on this, but wouldn't a boost this large start to introduce distortion?

Why don't you try it?
Anyway my investigation reveals that maxing out all volumes does induce a little distortion under bass, though I was listening to dubstep.
At 75% (Stock 50%, max 100%) on the application, volume was significantly improved, and distortion remained minimal.
I would suggest experimenting what works for you best, as not all speakers are made the same.
Strong suggestion OP.
I'm using "volume+ (volume booster) by meltus. It increased my volume by 50% with no distortion.

Sure it does....I'm stock on the N7 and it works perfect. I've been using it since last year when I bought the HTC sensation, if it wasn't for this app the sensation would be unusable. I'm now using it on the GNex as well.

The bs player has it's own volume control that will make the sound much louder.Just swipe up on the right side of the screen while playing a movie to increase the volume louder than the stock controls will allow.

Yeah I meant to say maximize the EQ settings but the stock volume can be altered as needed. But yeah if the stock is maxed as well there will be distortions and won't be good for speeker
EDIT: I am not affiliated with this MOD at all, I'm simply spreading the word.
Alright, forget AwesomeBEATS, AC!D Soundmod and DSP Manager. I've been trying this out for a few weeks now, with incredible results. I have tested this on both Borked ROM and PACman, and works flawlessly on both so it should work on all ROMs available for our Vivid. The only bug I have noticed is the separate bluetooth settings don't seem to make a difference, it just uses the Headset settings. Here are the settings I've found with the best sound for me so far, it will make your ears happy.
V4A-FX Powered On- CHECKED
PlaybackAGC- Unchecked
FIR Equalizer- CHECKED- I use Vocal Booster
Convolver- CHECKED- srs_2_1_normal+headset.irs
Field Surround- CHECKED- Both set to Moderate
Reverberation- Unchecked
Dynamic System- CHECKED- I have Denon headphones so I select High-End, sometimes Extreme. I can tell a difference between the two.
Tube Simulator- CHECKED
Just read through the thread and you'll find the .irs files and what to do with them. Installation is super easy and makes a huge difference.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
For our Vivid, choose A8Cortex with Neon when it does the initial driver setup.
If you have TitaniumBackup or can otherwise completely remove DSP Manager, I highly recommend this as to avoid conflicting settings.
thank you it works! my cm10 flashed vivid is so much louder and clear thanks again
I also want to point out my edit, if you can remove DSP manager from the system I recommend doing so, as its settings will conflict and deteriorate Viper's.
I'm glad you said something cus I deleted dsp manager and I'm using viper and I was gunna reflash the dsp manager since I think there's to much bass and music is a bid distorted.

It really does turn your phone into a high-end preamp/mixer, the audio profiles you can create with a little tweaking are amazing. This is one of the best setups I've found so far, for my headphones and the cassette adapter in my car-
Headset-
Master Power- On
Playback Gain- Off
FIR Equalizer- On- Vocal Booster
Convolver- On- IRS I use is samsung_i9300_soundalive_11_virtualchannel7.1.irs
Field Surround- Off
Headphone Surround- Off in the car, On for headphones (sometimes)
Reverberation- Off
Dynamic System- On- Extreme Headphones(v2), 16% Dynamic Bass, Tube Simulator enabled
Fidelity Control- ViPER Bass- On- Natural Bass, 40hz, 3.5db, ViPER Clarity- On- OZone+, 3.5db
Auditory System Protection- Cure Tech- On, Moderate
Master Gate (Limiter)- 0db, 0db
Glad it's working out for you guys!

Does it have a huge difference compared to DSP Manager? and what are the difference?
considering trying this mod...
but i need to know how to uninstall this mod ...just incase i don't like it ....
(I'm currently rooted running a stock dedoxed rom... using beats audio and poweramp so headphone wise i have no issue with the sound, but sound through the phones speakers is just too low.)
I'm on 4.2.2 Unofficial Dirty Unicorn (7-18-13),
after flash the rom,on phone speaker, default bass was too heavy to make it sounds horrible, and the dsp manager didn't work.
but this MOD works great!
Really thanks for the info, it fixed my phone speaker problem
I've noticed between my One and my wife's One the audio is not so vibrant on my device... We are both on OMJ's Rom, I'm not sure if my phone was always with a lower audio or if it just happened to my phone later, gradually losing it's amazingness. I would like to know if there is a fix or a MOD for this substandard audio of mine. It's not terrible, but it's not as vibrant as my wife's and definitely not as loud as I would like.

Not sure of any mod currently but I did notice that once I flashed to viperROM ( or possibly before I just didn't notice) that my bottom speaker was louder than my top speaker but with the new update 1.29.651.10 base being added to his updated ROM both speakers are noticeably louder and are even as I believe sprint added a fix for it.

It isn't ROM or kernel dependent. It's a universal mod.
Just a shot in the dark.
Try turning Volume all the way down, then back up.
My Bluetooth Headset had Low Volume and this fixed it. I doubt this will fix it, but worth a shot.
There are so many layers of software on these devices that it can get messed up if it's passing delta volumes around vs absolute.

This mod is for Headphones only. I still recommend flashing it. However, please note that in the original 1.29 update, HTC lowered the volume as people were complaining. I mentioned this to viper, and with some files I supplied from the 1.28 RUU, he found the files, and made a flashable zip to increase the base sound. It isn't anything that will blow your ears off, but it certainly is noticeable. Just a sec as I seift through the thread for the link.
@OP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241016&page=117 first post. viper figured it out almost immediately lol. Flash the PUREx soundmod thing first, as it contains the updated version of the 2 files found in vipers' zip. Afterward, flash vipers zip to install the 1.28 volume files.
EDIT UPDATE:
Actually, as of version 4.0 the pure sound mod thing includes the fix.
Even further update!: People are saying that 4.0 makes the quality better whilst decreasing the sound a bit, so to be safe, I would flash 4.0 then vipers zip.
I had a flaky audio issue last week. After a reboot, all was good again. In my case, I think Youmail was causing an issue for some reason. It was playing all audio as if I was on a call using the earpiece.

I've looked all over for a solution to make the speakers louder on 4.2.2 but no luck . When I got the phone it seamed loud but now I can't hear people when making calls in the car. I've read that HTC have lowered the volumes on 4.2.2 is there any way to get the volume back and make the speakers louder. Please don't respond by saying your phone is loud enough as mine isn't!!

Both are correct. HTC has lowered the volume repeatedly in their upgraded firmwares. The man who said his is still loud is most likely still running old >1.26 FW.
Now, as of a way to raise these volumes im not quite sure how to do this through file editing (Maybe the zip in post #2 or #3 works, idk, if your in dire need, nandroid and flash it) BUT if youre up to flashing a kernel (assuming youre running 4.2.2 and are on sense) you can flash Tbaldens Performance Kernel (in Orig. Android Dev. section) and that will give you options to boost volumes on multiple fronts. I can confirm this works myself, as i use this feature actively and dont experience any crackling or popping. If you decide to download this kernel, youll need Trickstermod Kernel Control app from the Play Store to edit the values.
(Lol, seems like alot but i promise its not. Plus you get extra sweet features like USB Fastcharge, and Overclocking and all that jazz with the kernel. Its worth it)
