Hi all,
Cold be my misunderstanding but anyway:
I set-up my Network Mode to : 3G(preferred)/GSM and i always have H+.
If i set it to GSM only i got E (egde) , 3G only stays always in H+.
Is this normal? How can i have only 3G?
Yes it I'd normal and h+ is faster than 3g
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
I know is faster...& needs more battery too
Usually H+ if there is data activity and 3g when data is idle.
Maybe some apps are always using your data that's why H+?
Go to data usage and check if there is some unfamiliar data consumption.
Or could be wrong apn settings?
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
I guess is the apn setup. It always seems to stay in H+.

Dear xda members,I love xda and I recently had purchased airtel 3g connection.
First I had issue connecting to 3g network.somehow I set the network to wcdma only and then dialed *#*#4636#*#* and set to wcdma only, there was still no network, then I turn of the radio and wow I had 3g signal and it was working fast.
But this morning when I woke up,my phone was in emergency signal mode.I tried the above steps but no success.
Anyone having same issue or know what's wrong with this.please share below.
Same issue in my nexus s with this airtel sim.

1. Set it on auto mode so in case you do not have signal on WCDMA it will switch to 2G
2. Also remember to add in apn settings for 3G data

The above mentioned problem is ter in Airtel. Because 2G data pack customers are getting 3G speed too. Am in 2G Data plan and i get most of the times 3G Speed. They are working on it.
Just check out your SIM with other device, whether it having same behaviour or not? if yes call operator for same.
Once go to setting - wireless n network - mobile network - network operator - search n w8, when display all, select AIRTEL not airtel (capital letter)

then you have to contact airtel, 1 posibility is there, may b your place have poor 3g coverage, so when it drops, it may get connected to 2G, which may be have good coverage at your place, Have you mark this happens to perticular place?

regarding the 10gb pack. you actually get only 5gb free. after that you're charged 3p/10kb for the remaining 5gb (upto a max shield of Rs.5000). after you reach this 5000 rupee mark which you will after usage of around 1.6gb, you will be pushed to an unlimited plan with a speed of just 20Kbps. there's no way to touch 10gb with such low speed. this is what is happening in bangalore. just correct me if i'm wrong.

This is an ongoing gripe of mine. I'm wondering if it's just me or if other people have this problem. When I'm on 4g it intermittently turns off data for a few seconds. The 4g icon goes away and comes back a few seconds later interrupting my connection. Only happens on 4g. If I set the mobile network to just 2g or 3g I don't have this problem. I've tried lots of different modems. So I'm wondering if it's an Optus thing or an issue with my phone? ?

probably poor coverage of 4G network
Why 4G when 3G is enough for watching video etc etc?
And it drain more battery also

I'm literally right next to a big city. Its not a coverage thing. If I have a 4g phone why not use it. I get about 24 hours of battery life from it so that's not an issue

I updated to 4.3 just now and my lte signal dropped to 1 to 2 bars, from a constant full bars. I noticed the performance is equal, meaning it may be just a difference in the sensitivity of the antenna's display of good signal however, it drops from lte a lot and stays in 3g. Has anyone verified the changes in the new modem? Any other bugs I should be aware on the 4.3 update? Also, Dashclock widget doesn't work on htc's widget lock screen.
Looks like before the bars were for voice and now they represent data. That's the way it is in AOSP.

I imagined since there were no changes in performance per se. I just wish I could restrict my one to lte only. Either 4g or no data.

I work relatively close to a 4G LTE tower before updated it showed full 4G with fast speeds, now it shows little to no 4G and would switch to 3G. I tried to Factory Data Reset with PRL and Profile Update and still shows the same, and I'm running all stock no root, and I'm pretty sure it's not the tower.

This is correct. You can verify this by connecting to wifi and then disabling mobile data. Your bars will instantly change.
I like this change. Now I can see that it is not possible to have more than 1 bar of 4G pretty much anywhere in my area. No wonder the speeds are so average and I almost never get 4G, the Sprint towers are all so far off the main roads that by the time the signal gets there it's weak. You can get full bars... if you drive up to the Sprint call center in Bristol, TN.
Before this change it was a lot harder to tell whether you were getting good 4G or 3G reception.
Edit: I just want to say that the reception itself is largely unchanged. When the phone goes from 4G to 3G, nothing will make it go back to 4G except toggling the data off and on.
Just to throw this in the mix. I live in an area that never had 4g but after this update I have it now. My signal strength also shows the one bar but coming from 3g only my connection now is 4g and has increased significantly. Maybe this new radio has a factor that extends the overall 4g coverage? I guess it could be just timing and 4g was opened up in my area but like I said I now have it after this update.
Running 4.3 with Sense 5.5, my HTC One never idles at UMTS (3G) when running in 'WCDMA Only' mode. The statusbar indicates the 'H' symbol while idling and connected to HSDPA in settings. This impacts my battery negatively, is there anyway to force to phone into UMTS when data transfer is completed?
Factory reset does not fix the problem.
Bump, in case no one saw!
This is controlled by the operator, not the phone

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference? Where I live (Australia), all 3 terms are interchangeable. Our 3G network is HSDPA.
How do you know there's a battery drain caused by this?

I thought so too, but I've seen alot of my friends using the exact same plan with the same operator and still get the UMTS idle. This makes me believe the APN settings somehow affects the result? (Or SIM-card?)
@deeevan Before I purchased the One, I had the same phone as one of my friends (same data plan). I had HSDPA idle and he had UMTS. Simliar setup and my idle drain was not even close as good as his.

This phone prefers LTE, I have a very week and unstable LTE at my house so it's constantly cutting in and out. When I'm at home or work I set the phone to CDMA only. Look under mobile data settings. My battery lasts WAY longer and don't have a problem with getting calls. There is zero benefit to being on LTE when you are using wifi. Since LTE at the moment is data only. Only annoying part is switching it back and forth. I wish there was a widget for it or could set tasker to do it automatically.

Yea
LTE is built in to the SoC so when activated, it doesn't turn off. Unlike previous phones who had an external LTE radio, the battery usage is minimal. So overall you are saving battery. and true if you have weak or no LTE signal turning it off will help.

SoC = System on a Chip so LTE, CPU, GPU, CDMA, 3G etc... Are all on 1 chip the Snapdragon 801. Older phones had separate components and used more power but the components could be turned off when not needed. When you are switching to CDMA only you are not just turning off LTE you are changing the core settings on the chip.

I most definitely agree. I have an Airave at home and I have to manually switch to CDMA only while at home for the phone to connect to it. I have a very weak LTE signal so the phone automatically tries to connect to it. Very frustrating. Called airave supprt who said they are aware of the problem and are trying to work on a solution, but for now just manually switch to CDMA only when I get home.
