Hiya,
I was in the process of rooting a Galaxy S I9000 and ended up picking the wrong clockworkmod image.
instead of applying version 2.5.1.2 i eneded appyling 3.0.0.5
The phone currently has no OS on it and therefore can only boot in the clockworkmod manager.
On the otherhand i currently can not access any of the partitions or the sdcard on the phone.
Is there any way to apply the right recovery manager?
thx,user7474.

only engine without body? how should u operate that? use odin to get to firmware
see here for detail

yeah i ended up at some strange facing to different version of the recovery boot manager and for some stupid reason the one with higher version number sounded like the better option.
also somewhere in that process i managed to kill the OS.
at least i managed to restore the partitions with odin and can now access the 'wrong' boot manager.
unfortunately i can not access any of the partitions from the pc via usb

actually, i dont really get what u want to do, if u can go to download mode, juz flash some firmware n u got back ur fone, added cf root if u wanna some root.thats da easiest way to obtain back ur fone, unless u cannot flash thru odin, then thats different story.

i was not aware that i still can flash the phone in it is current state eg with that busted boot loader.
so can i for now just use odin and flash some OS down the phone with worrying the busted boot loader?
and once i am done with that take care of the boot loader afterwards?
that be grooovy

what do u mean by "busted bootloader" ? can u explained ur situation please? and thank you.
as far as i know, any i9000 that can enter download mode (home+vol down+power) can be brought back to life with odin. Instruction already been given before, n any file necessary also there to download, juz read n follow real carefully, thats all.

sorry about that.
i meant wrong boot loader.
basically the wrong version one.
which can not be accessed from the pc via usb.
i was actually planing to try to install Cyanogen on to my phone.
can i my current position just on like the guides by Cyanogen are referring?

As long as u can enter download mode (3 button combo), da answer would be Yes, U can, but read carefully before doing anything.
u should install firmware first to gain accessability to system, new partition n ur efs first, flashing direct when ur doesnt even know what android version inside ur system kinda silly,
Please follow da instruction given in da link to obtain GB firmware first, followed by flashing CF-Root to gain CWM n root access to allow u to updated it further, after that u can flash any custom rom out there, but remember, its a safety measure to jump accordingly (GB-ICS-JB/CM7-CM9-CM10 or CM10.1)
but as i always say here, flash at ur OWN RISK

howdy,
sorry for my absense, but I've busy up to my eyeballs.
I did try to access the phone again via odin and unfortonately can not open any COM port on the phone...for some reason which might be above my level.
However I did install the Android SDK to try out some ADB commands.
since i heard from somewhere that i should try ADB commands
like the following
\fastboot.exe erase cache
..\fastboot.exe erase userdata
..\fastboot.exe flash boot
..\fastboot.exe flash recovery
..\fastboot.exe flash userdata
..\fastboot.exe flash system
..\fastboot.exe reboot
but iam not really sure which ones to use.
on the other hand since i can not boot the phone also can not 'talk' to the pc.

Ok I have a root now ,
when I rebooted my note to recovery I get this : Android system recovery <3e>
It looks like CWM but has no backup and restore options and thats why Iam confused
How I can get the CWM I used to use with my HTC Sensation
It looks like you only did root when what you wanted was root + CWM.
Go back to Dr.Ketan's guide and look at the procedure below this line that is in the first post:
-----------------------------------------Forget all Above and follow simple Step below------------------------------

My summary of your best options:
Follow from Step 2 and use the already-rooted.bat file
OR
The better (in my opinion) way:
Purchase Mobile Odin Pro(MOP) from the market and go get the CF Root Kernel that matches your firmware to get CWM. Just put the Kernel on your sdcard and run MOP, make sure EverRoot and all injections are checked, select file, find kernel, flash. Done.
MOP has also enabled us to retain root when flashing stock firmware updates by using the EverRoot and injections options, however you will lose most CWM functions when this is done. To regain CWM, you simply follow the same steps as above to update to a matching CF Root Kernel.
Have fun, and be sure to hit the thanks button for Ketan and Chainfire!
Dear beestee,
So: I have Kernel KK2 - Download This - and Extract
then : I am Already Rooted - Execute "already-rooted.bat" and follow the instructions
is there any side effects ? like format ot can not Upgrade via OTA or else?
Is there any thing need to be packed up first? like the original kernel if this method will change it
Nothin side effect, you can upgrade over OTA, BUT If you update over OTA/kies, you will lose Root.
So you have to use CWM or Mobile odin to update newer ROM

Ok I done it and it working, but I found that CWM is a program now you can access from phone not like in HTC where you must inter bootloader and MAGLDR to inter CWM
I can make the backup and restore from inside the program - right?
You can get it with entering recovery too, you have to press Home + Vol UP + Power to enter in recovery mode.
you can simply do it with inside app - restart in recovery
when you give command to backup, it will restart and auto enter in recovery mode and finish it

Hello, everyone. My first post, so I'll try not to make it terrible and try to keep it short. I've just stepped into the world of Android from using an iPhone. Currently using an SGH-i897. I rooted my phone, unlocked and went to install a custom Jelly Bean. I wiped data/factory, cache partition, dalvik cache and then did Format/system in Recovery mode. At this point I realized I made two really dumb mistakes. I hadn't installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I also didn't put my files on the Internal SD as I was supposed to, be on my external SD instead. I chose to reboot system so I could get back to my main system and fix what I'd done so I could continue properly. Welp, now I'm stuck at "system Corps" with the corn fella. The bar will finish loading, then just stays with corn alien. I can still get into Recovery if I want, but I'm not sure where to take it from here. I've read a few posts from people with different phones and it sounds like they have to flash official firmware with Odin or something?
Thank you for any help that can be offered.
*EDIT*
Finally got phone into Download mode again. I feel this is where I need to be heading, but I'm not sure what to do at this point.
If u can use the button combo to reboot into Recovery, u can go to mounts and storage and mount usb and connect to ur pc and copy ur rom over to ur phone's internal sdcard. And since u have the Corn Kernel installed...u have CWM Recovery. (Don't use Rom Manager).
If u cannot get into Recovery Mode, then get into Download mode and start over.
Take ur time, read, read, and be sure u know what ur doing. There r a lot of Stickied threads that contain a wealth of info. :good:

Being able to boot into recovery, at least, is a good start. Can you get into download mode, and, if so, have you used Odin to flash stock firmware, rather than using CWM or whatever recovery you're using? Can you use adb while the device is booting?

I tried to root my device without prior knowledge and ended up soft(i hope) bricking my phone. It showed that the files are damaged and that I need to connect with Kies to repair it. Did that. Twice. Both ended up with me being stuck at logo screen.
Power + home + volume up doesnt work, it just goes straight into logo screen and gets stuck.
When I enter Odin mode I get the custom binary download: 2
Current binary: custom
System status: Official.
My mobile can't load up, so I can't turn debug mode on.
Repairing the phone with Kies does nothing.
Tried to flash into stock, still same thing.
Anyone got any idea about what I can do about it?
Tried using the Toolkit and Odin3 itself. Nothing worked so far.

To root JB look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147786 ignore stock recovery cause it don't work. If you want CwM download Rom Manager and install CwM in there and use that root zip file in CwM.

Can I root the phone using the toolkit 1.1? That program seems to have the rooting ability when debugging mode is on.
Or just flash in the CWM and then use the zip from that topic.
Either way it's up to you, I prefer the last way, don't forget to update SuperSU you can find it here, flash it in CWM.

Hi,
I was redirected to this part of the forum. A friend of mine rooted my samsung mobile Galaxy S I9000 with a android 2.2 version. I cannot contact him anymore to help me with the update and I am really a newbie in this rooting world. So, I am coming on this forum to have some advice. I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
But now, I am stuck with some questions (could you guide me where to find the information?):
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have? Which version will work best?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up? + I have a problem with the backup Titanium app. It could reach my root in the beginning, but then the Superuser app updated the binary and from then on my titanium app got stuck when getting access to the root. Any idea how to solve this? Install an older version of the bin.file? How to do that exactly? thanks! => I could fix this problem by installing an older version of superuser in CW recovery. If others have problems with this issue, I can provide help from now on
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow? Or could you advice me some useful links?
thanks!
1) there is android 4.2.2 available for this amazing device
2) you propably forgot to backup efs folder
3)
- 1) follow this guide to get android 2.3.6 to your device: http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
- 2) follow this guide to get android 4.2.2 (cm 10.1) to your device after: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
- 3) now you can flash most of the roms you find in i9000 android development forum. i personally use slimrom
copy /efs! backup ur imei n md5 in efs first! copy da whole efs file! or do nandroid backup.
READ N FOLLOW CAREFULLY here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
considering u already done flashing Sammy n CF
prepare for ROM & kernel(optional) hunt! go to dev section and choose which JB u wanted.download it together with cm9.1.0 n copy to root of internal sd.
n make sure to flash cm9.1.0 stable from cyanogenmod website (galaxymtd) first from 2.3.6, first flash will bootloop, go back to recovery with 3 combo button. flash again n dont leave recovery.
after done flashing twice (if flash ended too quick, then flash again). direct flash 4.1/4.2 chosen rom, twice (first flash will come up with error, juz ignore it flash again (bootloop) recovery again n flash again

I followed the guide you mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2149455
in which they install that JVU ROM... then they say at the end that you have to unmount SD card (but that option was gray in my case) and wipe the USB storage and then reboot in recovery and do those 4 wipes, what I did, and then he mentioned that you could install your custom ROM, so I put the version of slimrom 4.2.2 on my sd card and launched it for installation.
However, the procedure started, but after a few seconds already my phone rebooted and now it is stuck at the logo of Semaphore...
What did I wrong? And what should I do?

flashing for upgrade is easy if u follow carefully, when in GB, after flashing CF ROOT, flashing to 4.0 (cm9) first (take da zip from cyanogenmod website) but luckily ur on 2.3.6 JVU (if u follow da link i gave), so it will be safe (safe procedure will be GB-ICS-JB), first flash will bootloop, second flash (sometimes) will occur error n third flash will succeed, which means u hav to flash twice or thrice or maybe 4 times! if its bootloop, go to recovery back by 3 button combo (its da matter of when u release da combo button, release it rite after u see da first white bootsplash)
bootloop cause by changing da partition tp ext4, its common
but if u already try to reach recovery n failed most times, u need to flash back firmware n cf root.

Ok, thanks!!!! this worked!!! I justed flashed cm9 and it works. So, if I understand well now, I can just return in recovery mode and install from zip from sd card to cm10 and then for instance to slimrom? Or between 'two' flashes, I need to follow the last part of the procedure in the link you gave me? So:
"Now, what I do now is go into :
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage
Enable USB Debugging > Plug in Phone
Window should open up showing your phone Directory..
Copy over your ROM that you want
Shut Down Phone
Reboot into Recovery (Vol UP - Menu - Power)
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)
Data / Factory Reset
Cache Partition
Go to Advanced > OK
Dalvik Cache
Battery Stats
Go Back > OK
To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action
Install your Custom ROM from Zip Card that you want..."
OR: can I just go to recovery mode and do install from zip without doing that procedure with "wipe" etc?
Just to know, as I am just a newbie in these things!!! But I want to thank you once again for the clear explanations and the good help!!!!
juz flash mate , its easy, da important thing is to follow da sequence, thats all, juz flash, wiping cache or resetting juz for changing ROM. not upgrading
juz FLASH it
GB-ICS (twice)(do not leave recovery after second flash)-(any custom JB ROM u choose(twice or thrice))(make sure u already put da zip file in internalsd). dont need any wiping.
but FLASH AT UR OWN RISK,remember that.
n yes, recovery need hardbutton except TWRP recovery.

Thanks!!!! Just one small question. I just flashed CM10 in recovery mode and first flash gave error, second went well. Then while still being in recovery mode I directly flashed slimrom and that went well from the first time. Do you always flash a second time to make sure that things went well or this is ok then?

as i already said, flash more than 2 times when upgrading, juz upgrading process. GB-ICS-JB (CM7-CM9-CM10/10.1) is upgrading process.
changing ROM not necessarily need double flashing, but u can do it if ur not satisfy whether da ROM already flashed or not

ok, thanks!!! no, everything is working fine with this slimrom, except for google play that does not seem to open once I install it. It opens and closes directly... but I guess there are persons that had the same problem. will have to check the forum for a solution

Hmmm, is probably because I get this error when starting slimrom: invalid IMEI number...I flashed it a second time, but it gave me the same error...
Which gapps have you flashed? Slimbean needs a special package, you find it under slimroms.net.

I will have a look there for that google play problem.
More problematic is that problem of IMEI. When I flashed from CM 9 to CM10 I did not do that wipe of cache and data as suggested above (the reply came later on), and then I flashed slimrom. That I forgot to wipe between CM9 and CM10, can that be the cause of wrong IMEI now? Is the solution now, to wipe cache and data, to flash again CM 10 and to flash then slimrom again?
Or should I just leave everything like that and do a recovery of my efs folder? If yes, any link for this?
