Hey guys, this morning I tried to connect my XZ to my Sony car stero via usb, the stero came up with not supposrted on the display. Anyone know to go about getting the stero to recognize the device?
The internal storage is always in MTP mode so ur stereo cant detect it probably. Put your music files in the sdcard and select Mass Storage mode in Usb Connectivity. Hope this helps.

I'm having an issue playing music through USB on my Pioneer car stereo. I've tried mass storage and music player modes with USB debugging turned on and off with no luck. Any one else experience this?

I have the exact same problem. Still cannot figure out how to play music through USB port on my car stereo system. I was able to do this with my old Iphone 3G but not on Captivate. But I was able to stream music using Bluetooth feature on Captivate onto my car stereo system.
Did you mount the sdcards while in mass storage mode, just like hooking up to the computer. My Pioneer, and my JVC deck do it just fine, it treats them as a flash drive. The one that doesnt work is my first gen Sync system in my Focus.
I use an aux cable. Sound quality is just fine with my epic. I have a 5000watt system in my car controled threw my pioneer h/u

I have tried that also. I'm using Cognition Beta 6 if that helps.
Is your music on the external SD card?

No it is on the internal SD card
The best way to do this is to get an external microSD card and format it to FAT32. Car stereos only seem to recognize that file format. You probably want debugging off and the phone in mass storage mode while driving.

Needs to be on the external card for me.
Moving to external SD didn't help
yeh didn't use to work for me, but after putting an external card in the slot (sandisk 32gb) and updating to stock jh7 (not sure which one did it)
it works now. however only recognises the external card.
I think its a problem with something in the beta 2.2 firmwares. If I go back to 2.1 everything works if I go to any 2.2 variant it doesn't work. I guess its the price to pay for beta, but hopefully it gets resolved in the final revisions.
I just discovered today If I put my phone into USB development mode the write speeds for the internal and external SD increase by a VERY VERY huge margin!!
Example;
I have a 238MB folder that contains 2,000 files.. placing that on the internal sd by not activating mount USB takes about 15mins, using USB mode takes something like 4mins... Also writing my movies gives me an average of 7.50~8.0MB/s as compared to something like 2.5mb/s if not mounted via USB mode..
Is this a phone/andriod issue or probably my PC detecting it as 1.1 if not mounted as a USB ?
Usb debug mode is slow, kies mode is slow.
Always use usb mass storage mode for large transfers

USB debug mode gives me 1:1 speeds with Mass storage mode.
Those speeds are in the phone only? Or are you talking about copying files from computer to the phone?

PC to Phone
How do you change the mode?
Mine is stuck on Mass Storage and I see no option about USB Settings (in Settings/About phone).
I'm on JPk. Was planning to backup phone via kies and go to JPO.
Its in wireless and networks for froyo

Well, when I plug my phone into either my ps3 or computer the phone will recognize that it is in USB, but in the pulldown menu it gives me no option to mount it. What would cause this? I tried restarting my phone, but that didn't help.

Settings -> Application -> USB Settings -> Ask on Connect
As long as your pc doesnt display a message telling you the device has malfunctioned and windows doesnt recognize it its more than likely configuration issue with your phone.
the usb connection interface is wonky and Ive replaced one phone already because it failed completeley.
Good luck hope this helps.
I don't think that would have fixed it anyway. It recognized that it was connected in mass storage, but it just didn't give me the option to mount it for some reason. Anyway, I got it to recognize it after I kept switching mass storage on and off

You never mentioned you had USB debugging enabled? Did you?
I am using a Custom ROM and from time to time my computer doesn't recognize that I have connected my phone via USB. I usually can be sure on my Computer Explorer isn't opened then disconnect and re connect USB cable. Also if my phone has been connected and I haven't Mounted and phone "goes to sleep". I have to disconnect USB,Wake the phone and then connect USB and immediately Mount.

It wasn't my computers problem though, thats the thing... It was something with the phone. I still don't know exactly what is causing it, but this is not the first time it has happened.
Ok, so i am sure this is a "noob" type question but here goes.... How do i get my captivate to play audio through the usb cable??? I have a new stereo in my truck that has a usb input but for some reason i can't get it to recognize my phone. I am currently running Slim's ICS Rom and whenever i plug in the usb it automatically goes into usb debugging. Please help, i know this is probably and easy question for some of you but i am having difficulty with this.
Have you tried turning off USB debugging? Settings - Applications - Development - USB debugging. Once you do that, it might recognize it.
You'll probably also want to pay attention to where on the phone it's looking for audio files and update your folder structure accordingly (e.g. if it's looking on the external SD, put your music there, if internal SD, put it there).
Have pulling the notification bar and press connect USB...

i thought the "usb connect" was only for transferring data/files from pc to phone. i know when i was stock (and some previous ROMS) there was a Media Player or Mass Storage option also when connecting the usb cable, but i do not see that as an option with this ROM. I will try and move the music to the internal RAM (now it's on external sd card) and see if that helps.
Well you must have a option to mound your sd card I you do that your you stereo will detect you phone and read you music file try putting your all you media into the music file if you mound your sd card it should read it but if it doesn't try changing your cable... : )

ok, the external sd card is mounted to the phone. i put music on both the external sd and the internal memory, tried to "connect usb" when asked and still my stereo does not find music to play. i thought i read some place before that i need the car/home dock app so i tried that and still no luck.
any other suggestions?????
Hi! All. I am having trouble transfering a 200mb mkv video from my laptop to z1's microsd card. Win explorer keeps crashing when i copy & paste. I connect the phone via USB & USB debugging is enabled.

Have you tried to do this on another computer, because that certainly sounds like an issue with your laptop.
Try with MSC mode rather than MTP mode.
