Extreme Overheating and CPU Issue - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Within the last 24 hours, my HTC One has been having CPU problems where the minmax has been locking at 1728mhz, and any effort to reduce the minimum lasts for less than 30 seconds. I have tried everything i know of to correct this problem, such as updating the ROM (ARHD) to its newest version, restoring to an older nandroid, and trying a totally different ROM (Trickdroid). Nothing is working and this is causing severe problems. Its resting temperature is at 92 degrees, and when just using a simple app like Twiiter or the XDA app, it spikes to over 100. This is absolutely ridiculous and im wondering if anyone has had this problem or might know how to fix mine?

Maybe you flashed some unstable kernels ? I would try to wipe everything and flash Ruu
Отправленные с моего HTC One с помощью Tapatalk 4 Beta

Only used the stock kernel that came with ARHD. So i dont know how much thatd help.

one of your CPU apps is locking the frequency

I had the same problem ever since I updated to 4.2.2
Until I deleted Facebook Messenger.
Try to find apps which are running all the time and show on top in GSAM
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I don't think having cpu apps running with 4.2.2 is the best idea. At least not until we get kernels built from source that will allow them to work properly

Originally i was only using SetCPU to view the speeds it was running at. Thats how i discovered this problem in the first place.

Bad performances with Asphalt6

On my Nexus S, Asphalt 6 runs quite bad. On the first track when the camera flies over the cars it show a maximum of 10-12fps, and the entire game goes rearely over 20fps with the external camera view. Considering that the game graphics, except for reflections on the car is nothing special (see the textures on buildings, they're embarassing), I really don't understant why it doesn't run at a decent framerate (except eventually the bad optimization). Overclocking at 1.3GHz does nothing, removing that famous GL-related file does nothing, the game continue running like CRAP. I'm quite sure that on an iPhone4 it goes flawlessly. Someone here is getting a decent framerate? Something over 35? Maybe it is a ROM-related issue? I have the original, paid 1.0.4 version installed on stock rooted GRJ22 rom. My device is a 9023.
change your Kernel
either use Netarchy if you are on stock
or use Trinity
the game was also lagging on my phone before i changed to Trinity
I'm already using netarchy... So now using the trinity kernel the game runs smooth?

it runs fine on trinity over here. the gpu is overclocked on most of the trinity kernels too, which does give you a graphics/3D boost. im using the Trinity 1.44ghz kernel right now.
ok the 1.1GHz/240MHz version isn't enough. And I surely don't want to keep my device overclocked at 1.44GHz with a 240 bus only to run such a bad optimized and not graphically attractive game

blatant honesty.. much respect for that
Try this. With root explore go into system/lib/egl and delete the file libgles_android.so. it improves the 3d fps on quadrant so I think it should help u in the game

Dont have any problem here. How to check how many fps are you running?
I am with nexus s i9023. Using 1GHZ TUV kernel. Running perfectly... and fast as well
No way to measure them, I just play videogames by more than 20 years
My personal frame rate scale:
fps>45 smooth as butter
fps>30 smooth
fps>25 playable
fps>20 still playable, but not so funny expecially if it requires fast reactions or you have to
aim something
fps like you can almost count them -> something between 15 and 5
For me, every real time game that passes the 20fps barrier should be uninstalled immediately. Making a game that can't run at a comfortable frame rate makes no sense.
However, I tried T144 kernel and I get an acceptable frame rate. But I don't think that the iOS version is much less detailed, plus I don't see any trilinear filtering and the game seems to be done to run at a higher resolution, the textures of the road are very grainy in the distance. For a game like that, if it were well done a powerful 1ghz device with a SGX540 gpu should be ENOUGH.... see what John Carmack can do with an ipod touch 2g.

already done, it is the gl-related file I was talking about. It is the reason why I rooted my Nexus . Sadly it works with quadrant but does nothing with asphalt6
As you certainly know, there's a lot of android fanboys who could say that a particular game runs better and has better graphics than on iphone just because they're android fanboys. I have to say that I'm a bit prejudicial due to this, and I tend not to immediately trust who say that the X thing is done better on Android respect to iOS. A blinking 'fanboy' light on my brain powers on and I sadly can't do nothing about that. But adding detail to the post like you done up there helps to turn it off, if I see your nick for the first time I have no data to prove that you know what you're saying, I think this is comprehensible. Now I know you're not a fanboy, maybe a bit touchy but with some knowledge in informatics, but it seems to me that you think you're talking with a dope and still sound rude. I know that higher resolution means *in general* less fps, but games (as you surely know) can slow down due for example to high polygon count scenes; I simply don't think that asphalt 6 can run slower than on ipod touch due to the higher resolution of Nexus S, and I think that you agree with that. However, you have more experience than me in gaming, but hey this is just an hobby for me. I'm not in benchmarking and software-hardware, I simply play games when I have time and I do it since I had a Commodore 64. Actually I'm a mechanical engineer with some experience in numerical algorhitms, I can't distinguish a 16x anisotropic filter when I see it applied like you do and (probably) my hardware doesn't support it, but if I would ever need it I can understand the mathematical algorhitm and code it. Everyone has its own experience and writing on a forum can help in sharing it, even at long distances. Being rude doesn't help in doing that, actually doesn't help in nothing and makes partecipating in discussions not a pleasant thing to do.

i don't know if you can see my siggy, but if you read this line
Samsung Nexus S: on CM7.1 RC1 (2.3.4) + Trinity TUV10 Kernel
then you'll know it works great, and it's on stock speed 1000 + undervolted
runs super smooth
and the whole reason i find out, was because i rant into the same problem with Netarchy

I tried CM7 RC1 with bot TUV and TUV10 and asphalt 6 force closes. I installed the rom by wiping cache, data and dalvik cache. I already tried with nightlies before and it was the same, that's because I'm stuck on stock rooted rom. Any suggestions?

maybe your trying a version of asphalt6 thats not for the nexus s? try this to see if this helps.. first, boot into recovery and try the "fix permissions" option. if that doesnt work, go to the phones main setting, applications, manage applications, downloaded applications, asphalt6.. now clear its data. you might have to redownload all the game data again, something could have corrupted.
I'm using the nexus version from the market I didn't download the data again, but I doubt it's corrupted as it works now that I reverted to stock rooted 2.3.4. I'll try to fix permissions
I tried both fixing permissions and redownloading app+data but nothing changes
I don't know if it makes difference but my nexus is a 9023

i don't think so
i purchased both version of Asphalt 6 HD for $0.99 just for the heck of it, because i wanted to figure out why there are 2 versions, and both works great for me
one was purchased direct from Gameloft website v3.1.9
the other one was purchased from android market v1.0.4
and if any one knows, i have over 350+ app/games installed in the phone, with at least over a dozen Widgets running in the Launcher, yet i do not have any lag running either version.
... i still can't see or figure out the difference between the 2 versions.
i don't think the i9023 version of the phone is that much different, AFAIK it's only the SLCD vs SAMOLED+ screen changed
my suggestion would be to flash the dalvik cleaner ZIP file that is floating around
that one supposes to really clean up everything

i have both versions of asphalt6 too, both are running fine here too. on the latest cm and the trinity teuv kernel. i dont see what would make the ops asphalt6 game fc on cm and work fine on stock. thats very strange. the only other thing i can think of at the moment is his version of cm that he is running. rc1 is fairly old now. maybe the op should update to a more recent cm nightly or a cm kang. maybe even a more recent trinity kernel too. but now im just guessing.
ps. damn, you beat me, i only have 299 games/apps with many widgets(without any lag).
tried the dalvik wiper and nothing changed...I already tried with nightlies and it does the same :/

Would you care if you switched to a cm7 nightly or kang to try this?

GPS work on rooted builds? Overall User experience after root?

I'm getting ready to root and install a custom rom, will my GPS work then? Also is the tablet her experience smoother after custom rom install?

This topic should have been created to general. GPS will work on most of the ROMs, and the lock time can be even boosted with some apps. Tutorials to boost lock time can be found on xda, but in different device forums. Use search to find them. Tablet seems to be faster for me. I also use supercharger script which keeps makes the device work better too.

To my experience, there is one caveat, especially for overclocked models and units. The CPU produces too much heat, and the GPS receiver stops working in some finite time. Either it sees the satellites but cannot fix on them, or does not see them at all. Then the CPU and the GPS start running at their full speed, searching for the satellites, and heat even more, etc. Finally it may be so hot that you sense burnt if you touch the plastic (!) housing at the motherboard corner.
Once switched off and cooled, it works properly, but not too long - in my case, about 10 to 15 minutes. Surely it dependes heavily upon the GPS program that you are running, and upon how intensively it uses the CPU. But nowdays most programs are written in the most straight way to run the engine at full rate, without regard to the fuel tank 8-(
First I ran into this problem on 1,2GHz model, now things are even worse on 1,5GHz motherboard. I think CPU needs to be deliberately underclocked when using this device as a GPS navigator. And generally this is not the best product for this application. It makes sense using its GPS capability only occasionally, in non-critical situations, as a side benefit to its other uses (media player/internet browser/book reader/etc.)
ps. There have been numerous complains in this forum about GPS non-working in various firmwares. In such cases, check for overheating first of all! This is really a weak point in A101G9 design. Apparently the overall design was done for 1GHz CPU, and putting the 1,2 or 1,5GHz in the same housing is beyond its cooling capabilities. Or think about placing a small USB-powered fan into the modem slot, it is possible to do even without opening the device itself.
My GPS does not work atm. I was hoping that using a custom rom would fix that. Hmmmm what to do?

My experience with Rooted Firmwares is good, the tablet runs a bit smoother if you set the cpu at the maximum clock and have it stay there, battery life is not affected from what I've seen... The Tablet does get warm if you give it "intense" tasks, but not hot enough for it to "burn" in you hands... GPS has been working 100% perfect for me... maby try installing GPS test and faster fix from the market, that might improve the gps performance.
Rooted my 101 T9 Turbo, no GPS problems at all.
Posted from Android 4.0.3
I have a G9 80. I have seen success with the following ROMs:
1.Stock ICS 4.0.7 Rooted (not the deodex version, but the original version)
2. ICS Blue
Stock 4.0.6 rooted did not work (couldn't lock onto satellites) and neither did 4.0.7 in deodex form (Sygic GPS software crashed). Make sure after flashing rooted ROM that you also download GPS Test app. Go into settings and clear AGPS data. This should allow you to lock onto satellites very quickly.
I'm currently running the ICS Blue ROM using the Sygic GPS software and loving it.

Awesome, I'm working on getting blue loaded, but I'm running into a couple of snags. Good to hear that it works with blue. Blue with o/c will be my weapon of choice now. Hopefully going to get it loaded tomorrow, as well as jellybean on my 989 galaxy.

Laggy Phone

I know the galaxy is a fast phone but for reason my phone does not seem to perform very well compared to other galaxy s3. I don't have the power saving mode on and yet my benchmarks are lower. i used Antutu to do this and the galaxy s3 for other phones are usually above 10000 and mine can only hit about
9300. can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
Antutu is rubbish with the i9305 phones I even talked with the Dev and he agreed something was not right about the results and hopefully the bugs get ironed out in future releases. I Overclocked mine to 1.7Ghz and got a score of 8000 then I put it back to normal and got 12500 then i tried it again and got 9000 its just ridiculous, I mean Even quadrant is more stable i am getting over 7000K constanlty with a highest of 7400 but this is when I am OC to 1.7ghz and thats an insane score for quadrant, Stock I9300 get around 5000 with quadran just to show you the difference.. By the way that is using Quadrant Pro
You should not base your laggyness with benchmark results everyone knows they dont mean much and if it actually feels laggy and slow and its completely stock and you dont have it on power savings mode and you have not installed any 3rd party apps which could cause the biug Then i am afraid its a hardware issue but if you have a custom rom/kernel installed 3rd party apps well 1st thing to do is remove EVERTHING go back to stock straight out of the box and see if its still slow, because it shouldnt these phones a beautiful straight from thebox even.
thx for the info. tats probably y I had thought it was my phone. I can't say much about feeling the lag while using my phone cuz I'm almost never using power hungry apps but I only got worried cuz I was playing spirit xhd and it was just soooo laggy I couldn't even play.

help with v3.7 borked rom

so here's my issue its with the battery.. before on v3.5 I would get amazing battery best Rom I've ever gotten battery life from.. I switched off to a stock ics Rom cause of the camera and dropped network issue.. when I noticed the camera was fixed I flashed v3.7 and now I get horrible batt life literally 30% to 30 mins with medium use facebook texting browsing... I'm wondering what's going on?? and its not the battery I have 3 and they all die fast with this Rom.. is it my phone? any suggestions would be appreciated
Try reflashing

Thanks for responding.. tried it on the holics rom too and horrible battery life idk what it is I'm running the virtuous from and seems to be ok but on sence roms it drains fast it also has random drops from 20% to 12% or just dies I usually run the from for 3 days but the battery doesn't improve is this just a vivid thing or is my device damaged and using a lot of battery?
Also my my device gets very hot on those roms not the battery but below it I'm guessing the processor ?

It is possibly the processor because of the fact that you can overclock your processor on a custom rom.

I'm thinking the same as well it was quite frequent on those roms I dont think its a app because before I install my apps the phone is pretty much vanilla so I turned off some sync and dropped my CPU to 720 MHz or so and also lowered my gpu with kernel tuner. Hope this works
Side note if u don't love sense go with the virtuous rom its awesome.. coupled with nova prime its been the most flawless rom for me fyi s off at&t vivid.. really well made rom I haven't run into any problems using it..IMO the borked rom and virtuous rom are the most stable on at&t version of vivid
If anyone had this problem ill let u know how I fixed it.. just flash kosmik kernal and that's it works beautiful my battery now lasts all day with heavy use.. hope this helps someone

[Q] Does your HTC One lag after a some days' use?

Hello guys! I am planning to buy a HTC One this week. However one issue is worrying me, which is the sluggishness after a couple weeks or months of use. Does the One suffer from this issue. Because this issue plagued my HTC Sensation and HTC Desire (both after less than a month of use). P.S: I want to install a fair amount of apps and about 10 gb of multimedia.
very short answer: NO
Okay thank you mate

Using the phone for about 2 months already, Still on 4.1.2 sadly.
Phone has a couple of gb's of movies and songs, about 20 installed games and many more apps..
Not a single lag at all and I haven't turned off the phone more than twice xD
No lag, but I have noticed a problem in the HTC browser... I have now two different times had to restart my phone because the browser didn't react when I pressed on a link or reloaded a page... Both times my phone hadn't been restarted for over a week...

Well the GPU throttling is "aggressive" relative to qualcom's standards (throttles at 40 degrees instead of 80). It drops the frequency down to 320MHz. There's an excellent thread on how to get around this if you want, all thanks go to @hamdir for his excellent work on this as always!
