ROM Benchmarking Results - Nexus 4 General

Hi, I benchmarked two of my favorite ROMs today and I thought posting it and opening a benchmarking thread would be useful.
I tested with this format/methodology
ROM version
Kernel version + kernel stetting (default or tweaked parameters)
Linaro or not
AnTuTu Benchmark - excluded 3D + Battery life test /+Stability test
With apps / clean ROM (straight after flash)
2 min after boot
unplugged from powersource
No apps running in background according to "recent apps"
Brightness level ~18%
My list:
XenonHD + Matr1x 9.5 - Linaro according to forums (but not listed in feature list) - Includes all my apps (not clean)
General score: 13725
CPU 4101/3874
Ram 3334
SD card 150/180
Stability test: not yet
crDroid + Matr1x 9.5 - Linaro - Includes all my apps (not clean)
General score: 13922
CPU 4131/3974
Ram 3355
SD card 139/164
Stability test: not yet
My subjective summary: - Just tried a clea out-of-the-bxx- rom benchmarking; meh...seems like I'm getting inconsistent results.
crDroid feels more smooth but seems to have to a little less features (like lock-screen transparency and lacks certain animations (like status bar) - but it has for example lockscreen wallpaper which XenonHD lacks. XenonHD featuers small volume steps which is a huge feature crDroid is lacking and also features PA's PIE controls).
Overall two great ROMs out of which I'm using crDroid.
I'll add clean results later today.
Please post your results in the format above if you may :silly: thank you!

theres a good benchmarking thread going already, no need to start another. post there if you want to compare http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967843&page=93

Thank you but I wanted one from ROMs
Please delete this if you believe it's redundant.

what do you think thats for, different roms and kernels. theres no need for two of the same threads.

As stated there is already a thread for this. No need for more then one thread with pointless scores.

Your best combination of kernel & roms for NEXUS 4

Hi everybody,
i´ve started this thread because of getting a view of your experiences of good kernel rom combinations. For every user there are different expectations so i´ve decided to categorize in 3 different sections.
1. Battery Usage
longest battery lifetime - depends on each configuration sure but where did you get the best goal for you
2. Performance
based on user experience - not benchmark
3. Usabiltity
your favourite combination for daily use for balance of performance and speed
Please post for which category you provide your post and write some comments why this is the best combination for you. So let's start to share your experience
:fingers-crossed:
I will start
Battery
For until now is the best combination for battery saving for me this:
Rom: Carbon Rom 1.7
Kernel: Matr1x Kernel 9.0 (non overclocked)
Changing kernel from stock of carbon to matr1x pushed my battery life huge. At this time this is the best combination for me for battery life

Nice idea but:
1. Users all have different setups regarding installed roms, apps, widgets, mods and usage. So its very hard to compare screenontime/batterylife.
2. By performance you mean synthethic benchmarks or user experience?
3. Usability! What do you mean exactly by that?
As said don`t want to nitpick but specify the parameters
Me personaly i use Stock 4.2.2 rom and Franco nightlie r148.

it´s very difficult because of individual configurations and impressions and everybody has to test it on his own but i think it´s good to get an experience what other users prefer Please add a category if it´s possible. That would be nice!
I´ve specified the parameters a bit.
For me PA&AK kernel is the best...I came from Galaxy Nexus btw..

Nexus 4 battery best battery life
So i'm running P.A 3.60 combined with matrix kernel 8.5 on my nexus 4. I used trickster mod to change it to 2 cpus in use only and its still silky smooth and handles all the games i play still. With Gpu overclocked and limiting the 2 cores in use to 1Ghz when i'm barely using the phone plus display set to about 50% brightness (mabye too high for indoor use but i just love the screen), i got 20+ hours with wi-fi on constantly, and using social networks (facebook, whats app, sent about 100 sms in the day, plus 4 hours of call time) with 18% left. I think thats good enough

thank you for your settings. can you detailed explain what modifications you've done in trickster mod?
CPU Cores max frequencies / 4 Cores or??
GPU Cores max frequencies / limited to number of cores?
I want to mess up my battery life
thank you
I use Stock ROM and faux123 15tbm kernel
In dual core mode at a maximum clock of 1728 MHz and minimum of 214 with -100mv of UV I had 16 hours of battery time. 4 hours of screen time with normal use, music, gps, chrome and what's app.
The usability its better than stock kernel.
I never had lag issues or bugs.
My best and only at the moment is CM 10.1 + Franco Kernel.
On 2G, wifi on, auto brightness , I've been getting 40 minutes of screen (browsing, on Facebook, etc) at each 10 percent of battery.

The latest Paranoid Android and Franco kernel
saberMod + sts kernel best combination ever.
For me, I quite enjoy Trinity/Franco/Community Kernel with Carbon, or Trinity and CodeFireX. Both super-high performance ROMs.
Connor Baker
Also, I thought that "best of" threads weren't allowed.
I use latest PA and franco.
Hello. I'm on stock 4.2.2 and enhanced stock faux kernel. Stock is fast and pretty stable in this combination. I want try something different but when I try CM with faux kernel it become unstable. Why I'm using faux kernel? Because I'm using Trickster Mod. Which ROM working good with faux kernels? PA maybe?

i think it's ok. It doesn't evaluate best rom's or kernel's. It evaluate experiences. but if it's not ok - i can change thread title. Thank for the hint :good:
Guys, can you please add the section? Nobody knows for which goal is your combination good! Thanks in advance!
Stock + Franco Nightly
I want a flawless system so I stay on stock Android + I don't have the time to maintain nightly updated ROMs like CM, although I really like CM, especially its free customization... But doing those customization = Eat up my time for studying... So I decide to keep me and my N4 away from them
However I cannot accept the battery life and CPU management of the stock kernel so I chose Franco Kernel. I nearly do not play games and I accept seldom lags. My main use is browsing the web (often open up to 10 tabs ) and texting. My battery usually lasts for one day with ~5 hours of on-screen time and it's satisfying.
Running Carbon 1.7 with the latest Trinity kernel (131). Looks pretty solid so far.
Stock + Motley's kernel, with 2.5 days uptime + 3 hours SOT. Can't complain there.
Carbon 1.7, Franco latest nightlie using the BeastlyBattery power mode. On average 5hours screen on time.

Kernel InformationGeneral Installation Instructions (for both TW and AOSP):1. Download correct version of kernel for your device and rom. This is important as you may brick your phone is you use the wrong version.
2. Flash kernel using your preferred recovery
3. Do the following AFTER installing the kernel and BEFORE you reboot your phone:
a. Clear cache
b. Clear dalvik
c. Fix Permissions
4. Reboot your device.
TW Specific Kernel Instructions:
(can be used with AOSP too)There are some files on your TouchWiz phone that need to be renamed in order to maximize the battery life of your phone. There has been some debate on whether or not this is necessary, but for now we would recommend renaming these files to ensure that there is no chance of excessive battery drain.
Part 1:
These steps are only necessary on TouchWiz ROMs, however you can also do this on AOSP as well:
1. You must have ROOT. You will need to have a root enabled file explorer on your phone (ES File Explorer works very well and you can get it from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en). When you get it, open it up and go the the settings and scroll all the way down until you see the Root Settings. Go in there and enable ALL of the root settings.
2. After that is done, navigate to your root folders using the Folder Up icon at the top. Once you are in your root folders, navigate to /system/bin and locate the following files. You will need to rename them with a ".bak" at the end of the filename
gsiff_daemon --> gsiff_daemon.bak
mpdecision --> mpdecison.bak
qosmgr --> qosmgr.bak
smd --> smd.bak
smdexe --> smdexe.bak
Renaming these files will not harm your phone. Many users rename these files every time they flash a rom, and no damge is done.
Also, some ROMs come with these files renamed or deleted entirely, so if you don’t find a file, don’t be alarmed.
You have to do this every time you flash the ROM and/or Kernel.
If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself, you can use the TK-MOD (see Downloads section) and it will handle this for you.
Part 2:
Stopping mpdecision from being called:
1. Open terminal emulator and type the following code:
su
2. When terminal emulator asks for root permission hit 'Grant' or 'Allow'.
3. At the # prompt type:
stop mpdecision
Using Rom Toolbox (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox) we will make a script that will stop mpdecision from being called at each boot so you don't need to use terminal emulator each time
1. Open Rom Toolbox and scroll down to the Scripter option
2. In the scripter, click the “+” button in the top right corner, then select 'Create'
3. Type a name for our new script, lets call it “stop mpdecision”
4. In the commands enter the following text:
#!/system/bin/sh
stop mpdecision
5. Hit the disk icon to save it
6. Select the script that you just created and a dialog box should pop up, select set at boot
Were done here
AOSP Specific Kernel Instructions:When coming from a 3.0 Kernel to a 3.4 Kernel there is a new method with kernel updates. Skipping these steps will cause phone instability, due to some bad data left behind. This is a flaw in the Android OS, not the application. You must follow the instructions below (Thanks ktoonzs for the new method of the ktweaker app)
1. Go to Settings on the phone
2. Go to app manager then all apps
3. Scroll down to ktweaker app n open it
4. Once open hit FORCE STOP and then hit CLEAR DATA
5. Reboot and flash your new update of ktoonzs kernel
6. Repeat steps 1-4 in the above “General Installation” section
You should be good to go after that

Here you will find all of our tweaks to the kernel. We are providing these pre-configured settings as a means to assist S4 users with further improving their overall experiences on this already beast of a phone or to simply use as a baseline to work upon tweaking further. Please Keep in mind that results will always vary per device regardless on the settings being used. Apply what works best for you and your phone. We're here to help eachother out and with more options comes better experiences for everyone running the KT-SGS4 kernel. Big thanks to ALL who have contributed!
Download links will include the specified profile(s) as well as an "Adjustments" file. The "Adjustments" file is just for easy view of all changes made to a profile compared to stock settings.
1. Download the file(s) to your phone. In case of .bin files, optionally rename the file(s) as .txt
2. Copy ONLY the profile(s) (DO NOT copy the "Adjustments" file) to /sdcard/KTweaker folder using a file Manager of your choice.
3. Open Ktweaker app and click on "Restore Prefs from sdcard".
4. The file you just copied should be listed there. Choose the one you want to apply.
5. After applying, make sure the "Set options on boot" setting on the main menu of KTweaker has a little green text bellow confirming that the settings will be applied upon reboot.
6. Profit!
Balanced Bull: Reloaded (updated: 11~15~13)
These settings are very special to me as they were my very first, dating back to the Galaxy S3, and has gained an incredible amount of feedback. It has become notable for it's fairly smooth interface and amazing battery life. If this stacks up to your standards then I encourage you to use it!
https://copy.com/6DYYijYNqifx
Nightmare To Remember
This will likely become your beautiful, never ending nightmare.. It offers a unique balance between battery and performance but unlike Balanced Bull, it is slightly more performance oriented due to the more aggressive scale up to max CPU. However, only 2 cores will be used for the majority of the time so you can still enjoy a nice buttery smooth interface with just enough juice to last you through the day.
https://copy.com/qWU6AIeeAUyd
Bless The Child v3 (updated: 10~25~13)
Based on Ktoonservateq and aimed towards battery. This is specifically for all the battery hungry users out there wanting to conserve as much power as possible. So don't expect the BEST but rather decent performance out of this one.
https://copy.com/CZdfHiaZEOAu
Feed The Machine
The exact opposite of Bless the Child. This is a performance oriented option for all hardcore users. If battery isn't a priority for you then this is a great option.
https://copy.com/xWpFNDtIsQHe
Day Of Reckoning
Very similar to Nightmare To Remember but is aimed slightly more towards battery without deteriorating much of the performance. It is based off the Pegasusq governor.
https://copy.com/vynBURHcsOUl
Dead By April v2.2 (updated: 11~15~13)
This profile attempts to bring some of the best battery life possible to your device. It is similar to Bless The Child but takes things a step further . It now focuses more on snappiness but still maintains it's well known battery conservation. It manages to maintain a smooth ui for your average daily use.

Project Icarus by @mamba720027
So some may wonder why the name "Icarus",why not Hyper Performance or Deadly Good Battery.
Well the reason and to begin explination, short history.
Icarus is a greek mythology who is seen today as a mythical pioneer that tried to conquer the skies.
I like that mythology cause it kinda corresponds to my own saying "fly high or fall hard" which means to aim high or fail trying. So their you have it folks and thus the profile name "Icarus".
And onto explination of each profiles.
The first is "Performance" which is catered for straight out performance with also good battery performance.
This one is for when u dont give a rats flying balls about battery really and just want everything super fast and smooth. But you maybe surprise of battery performance. I recommend everyone try this profile first. My current favorite
The second is "Conservative" this is for those seeking performance but also better battery performance than the first.
This one is the middle man or lady as u may want to refer to it. It gives the best of both worlds, performance and battery. So if the first leave you stranded then fear not, this is the one to turn too
The third is "Kamikaze" which means "god wind". It either knocks the daylight out of your Galaxy S4 due to its high undervolteing and mean intent on Battery Performance but still snappy.
This one the undervolting is of my personal voltage table that runs stable for me with other tweaks. If it runs successfully for anyone else then battery performance may be great.
This one is for those that likes the thrill of trying something new and unsure if it will work

Undisputed 3 (updated: 12~11~13)
This is a universal performance setup in which combines the essential elements of other profiles by providing equal battery life, speed, performance, and stability to bring the ultimate experience to your device.
https://copy.com/H0FUiELjgegB
ECLIPSE v2 (updated: 10~25~13)
This is a performance oriented option where great battery life is also expected to intervene. This not only will bring an incredibly stable, smooth, and snappy feel to your device but will also benefit towards longer lasting battery so you can love and enjoy your phone the way you were meant to.
https://copy.com/fgFWgW30IE38
Asking Alexandria
Another battery driven profile in which focuses on saving as much juice as possible while also maintaining stability and providing an extremely snappy feel to your phone. It is quite possibly one of the smoothest and snappiest battery saving profiles available.
Why Asking Alexandria?
It's named after yet another one of my top favorite metalcore bands and I chose this because Alexander The Great basically ruled the world at one point and "Alexandria" is the female equivalent to that name, which has become known to mean the "one who comes to save warriors".
"Asking" was an addition to the title name as an indication in the sense that we are all asking Alexandria what she can really do to our phone.

Project Daylight v2 by @mamba720027 (updated: 12~23~13)
Day Light is focused mainly on battery conservation. I felt that its useless if its not smooth and lags alot so I add performance into the mix createing a profile that offers both while its first and foremost goal "battery performance" is still preserved and not diminish. This profile is yet unique and on a different level from my early release of "Icarus"
The contents are 3 profiles unique in their own way, "Daylight", "Daybreak" and "Experimental" along with a "Extra" folder containing wallpapers I created on our S4 for fun while testing . Kind of gives me some inspiration and sense of feel of what my objective is.
Daybreak is a crossbread profile of my Icarus Performance profile and Daylight. Its simply utilizing the performance power behind Icarus Performance profile while useing Daylight profile governor settings as its core to boost battery performance
The experimental profile is heavily undervolted/Underclocked with tweaked scheduler and governor. I taught if some of you could run it stable then it may produce great or mix results

What Lies Beneath
This is an extreme battery performance setup in which essentially transforms your quad-core device into a dual core device.
Why "What Lies Beneath"?
You'll find that during light to moderate operations the cpu remains at lower frequencies for an extended period of time and will only jump to max when needed. Although it's clocked at a max of 1.3ghz it maintains a surprisingly smooth and snappy feel to your device at such low frequencies. This is where battery life is also expected to come in to play as well.

Ktoonsified v2 (updated: 12~23~13)
This profile was put together by none other than the BOSS himself, @ktoonsez! This is a performance oriented option in which also offers a great deal of battery life. Haven't tried these settings yet? then what are you waiting for!! Load em up and be prepared for one of the smoothest and snappiest experiences ever!

Sleeping Dragon by @mamba720027 (updated: 12~23~13)
Sleeping Dragon V2 Single Core
This is a single core profile aimed at consumeing the least battery for a time when you will be away from home or at work and away from the charger. It was a profile i played with at first as i did not expect it to mount as much with apps and system UI needing a right amount of performance from a CPU to meet todays tasks in performance. In the end i was able to tame the dragon and make it work as best as possible to achieve its goal
Sleeping Dragon V1 Quad-Core
This is the counter part of Sleeping Dragon V2 but with many tweaked parameters to make it a fully functional 4 Core base profile in hopes to achieve close or same battery performace as its single core entity. Unfortunately i still am not sure if it measures up but what i know from previous test with settings @Stock it hold its own in battery department. I am pleased with the results although i would wish to see some light usage results from users.I must give credits to Luigi for useing parts from his Balanced Bull Script, and Undisputed 3 Script and part from my Crimson Dragon Script. I am pleased to present users with this 4 Core or Quadcore profile

Eclipse and Kamikaze clash with one another in this hybrid profile (BIG thanks to @mamba720027 for the amazing work done on Kamikaze!). This is perfect for those who favor one or both of these profiles. With the merging of some of the essential performance and battery elements of each profile as well as a few minor adjustments, this one also stands as it's own profile and it flies!.

Ghost Rider by @galaxys3man30
this setup can benchmark on 1890,1944 and 1998 and its been really good on battery even thou its a performance setup think im going to call it ghost rider cuz its a sleeper yea it shows good battery life but behind that is the raw performance that is on demand when needed.

This Profile I put together is based on the "AbyssplugV2" governor.
Everything is tweaked and the profile can run by itself or either use the "smooth operator V2" Script or Luigi's "Hydra" Script.
Both are found in Post#8 of the OP. The choice is yours.

This is a profile that i put together from a lost in the thread Dual Core profile "Lazy Dragon". What was suppose to be a V2 Update of it turned into a 4 Core profile and something totally new, Crimson Dragon. This profile is a variable of Performace and keeping things balance. Its very smooth on TW and produce great results on AOSP as well threw testing and feedback. Please enjoy this new addition :good:

I9300 (Int) 4.4 Custom Kernels for Omni Nighties

First things first: this is not a "best kernel thread", so please avoid asking or stating in that direction. This is all about spotting what custom kernels are compatible with Omni (for now) Nighties, and what has been your experience with them so far.
In my case, I've tried both Yank's (1.6g-beta2) and Boeffla (beta 1a) and they are working flawlessly. At the moment I'm using Boeffla just cause I find it easier to toy with different configurations and Yank's can only be tweaked from aroma. And in my personal experience, I've found that using ART instead of dalvik, it feels like I'm having a smoother experience (with a bit more battery drain, I must admit). But like I said, this is only how those kernels work on my device and that doesn't mean it will happen exactly the same way in your's and how you'd feel about them.
Any other kernels have been tested and are working in Omni 4.4 nighties?

I follow you, I would install dual boot with a custom stock 4.3 (Android Revolution HD) and an android 4.4 rom (OmniROM).
I could create dual boot between 4.1/4.2/4.3/4.4(only CM11) roms with excellent Googy-Max Kernel... but nothing to do with OmniROM 4.4 due to recovery or kernel incompatibility.
---------- Post added at 11:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:03 PM ----------
Ah, I found Devil2 Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2528624 that supports Omni 4.4... and dual booting
Never been a huge fan of dualbooting but since I'm planning to stay with Omni until we reach a estable build... I wouldn't mind giving stock 4.3 a spin.
Has anyone tried out Devil and Omni already?

Just as an FYI with regards to custom kernels.
Just like with CM - Anyone can submit code to a kernel repository through gerrit for review. So if you're running something other than the official kernel, ask yourself:
1) What is the alternate kernel maintainer hiding? If their change is so good, why shouldn't it be the default, and why haven't they submitted their change to gerrit for review?
2) If they did submit a patch it was rejected - ask yourself why? Code review is public so you can find the reasons given for any patch being negatively reviewed (assuming the kernel maintainer even bothered to submit it).

I´m not much more than a resourceful noob, I must admit. But even when your line of thoughts seems very logical, I wonder if there could be any other reasons for kernel maintainers like Lord Boeffla or Yank555 to remain aside from main ROM projects. Both of them have been around for long now, and I've experienced with their work in my device a lot, with no harm at all (I can't guarantee results for other people, just talking about my experience).
I guess custom kernels give you the chance to adjust your kernel to your own needs. Some people would be ok about sacrificing some performance to obtain a better battery result, or would like to have the freedom to choose the governor that best suits you, for instance. Isn't customization and freedom the whole thing about custom ROMS and GPL?
As for me, I go for customs kernels seeking a better balance between performance and battery life. The way I use my phone, I won't last a full day with original kernels. But I must admit that if I had an app to tweak Omni's original kernel myself, I'd do it (I don't got the knowledge to dev my own kernel, thought).

Would you like to impelement CPU and GPU overclock?
Would you like to implement CPU and GPU undervolt?
Would you like to implement WIP governors like zzmoove?
I aksed only three questions from at least a few more, and I'm wondering if you could answer "yes" to at least one. Making custom kernel or custom rom is a great thing because we can push device to the limits, while doing so shouldn't be suggested neither implemented in any official kernel.

Voltage control/overclock - The stability issues these cause isn't worth it. Especially undervolting - at best it saves 3-4% on CPU core power savings, which is only 1-2% of system power even when the cores are at full tilt.
Alternate governors - These will have to, of course, go through review as to whether they have a valid reason for existing. 90% of alternate governors out there achieve nothing that can't be achieved merely by tuning the defaults of existing ones. Many of them are 100% marketing bull**** - Lionheart being the most blatant example. (Lionheart is nothing more than conservative with the minimum polling rate limit properly fixed...)

Of course you're right but if we're talking about gaming then in long-run uV can actually benefit users a bit more that 3-4%.
The most interesting thing is OC. It's always nice to have a bit more power than usual if you're using it only for a short time. This way you get real performance boost when it's needed, for example when CPU is doing a longer task. Nobody gets hurt if CPU will work at let's say 1.6 GHz instead of 1.4 for a few seconds.
I understand what you're trying to say and I totally agree with you. Most of the changes could be and should be contributed to the base but still most of the devs (including me) wouldn't contribute non-universal device-specific changes.

Got a new N6, Which ROM/Kernel do you recommend ?

Hey XDA,
my Z3 broke and my insurance gave me 500€ to get a new phone so i got the Nexus 6 32GB Blue for 490 € at my workplace.
Before my Z3 i had many different Phones like the S5, LG G3, NEXUS 5, HTC ONE m7 and more
Well what mostly use me device for is communication, A LOT (LOT LOT³) OF Fn READING (Manga and Reddit Sync) and hearing my music on the way to school/work/whatever .
I am a experienced user with roms and flashing but with this new device i just want to flash something daily driver friendly but feature heavy rom and a good battery conserving kernel
So far ive looked around for some roms available here and already choosen the
CHROMA Rom because it seems to be popular here (Not sure why ?!) (What is "Layers" ?)
and the Vindicator Kernel because it looks very promising (Not sure if its the case tho) and it has a lot of features (for a kernel..)
So what do you guys use and show me some screens of your themes becuase i like the possibilty to use the cm theme engine
Thanks
RainbowSix

"Best" ROM.
There is no such thing as a best ROM. The question itself is ambiguous. "Best" is obviously a subjective term.
What I want from a ROM may well differ from what you want from a ROM, ergo - what is best for me could be worst for you.
If you are asking what the most popular ROMs are, or which ROMs people are using, you can see which threads stay around on the first few pages (and have the most posts) in the Android Development or Original Android Development forums. You can also see what other people are running by reading the What are YOU running on your Nexus 6??? thread.
If you are asking which is the most stable, being a Nexus device - they're all pretty stable.
If you are asking which is best on Battery, ROMs only affect battery if they have a feature that is badly coded. You will likely be able to read about this in the ROM threads. ROMs do not impact battery life. The only impact to battery life are your apps, your settings, how you use the phone and mostly, environmental issues such as Phone Signal.
For tips about improving battery life, please read [Battery Life Help] Troubleshoot battery issues here!
"Best" Kernel
There is no such thing as the "Best" kernel. What we all want from a kernel is different. Again, many people have the misconception that Kernels affect battery life. Let's get this cleared up. Although Kernel devs will build in optimisations and efficiencies that will improve battery life, these are very, VERY tiny...and if 1 kernel has these optimisations, they likely all have.
People will often say "Kernel x is better than kernel y for battery life". This is actually wrong. Kernels respond to user settings. Setting up the governor to favour either battery life or performance is simple enough to do, you just have to do some learning. The reason people think Kernel x is better than y is because developers set their kernels up with their preferred governor settings. This is what we refer to as out-of-the-box settings. The out-of-the-box settings for kernel x may well produce better battery results than the out-of-the-box settings for kernel y, which favour performance. The fact is, you as the user have the ability to tune kernel x or y to perform the same, be that battery or performance - so start learning how to do this yourselves - that way, you can choose the kernel based on the FEATURES you want, and not the fictional performance benefits of one kernel over another.
Hope this helps

No worries, but recommendations kind of fall under "best" in a way anyway and it is all subjective.
FWIW, I like to use Slim Alpha and ElementalX kernel.
As for tweaks, it all depends what you want. Performance Versus Battery. Easiest thing to tweak is the governor settings. Some governors will allow you to change the Up Threshold. The % of CPU load before it steps up to a higher frequency. Set the up threshold high, it will stay at a lower frequency for longer, of course that impacts performance.

Thanks so much for the hard work.
I used this kernel few days ago for just 2 hours. Got the kernel from the telegram. My findings may not be correct but I like to share. Again, I may not be right. You know I am your fan so I will not try to flame you.
- I used zzmove performance (profile 8) overclock to 2.5ghz. Antutu benchmark score is very low at just 50k. When I used your Project Starkiller or Swell, I can easily hit over 60k.
- Above 2.5ghz is not stable. Got FC immediately after changing the maximum clock speed.
- Same as my earlier findings for voltage for USB and AC Charging. I did mentioned for your other kernels earlier. They appear in kernel aduitor (using GZR) but will revert back to 0 after changing. It's not working.
That's all. I will flash again once there's updates.
FYI, when flashing new kernel, I will always dirty flash ROM then supersu and so on before flashing new kernel.
Cpu hotplug?ur recommendations?
I know you don't support non-caf roms, but is the audio bug from swell with validus still there?

The version I posted here is newer. I removed AC and USB settings. Starkiller will have higher performance but please don't qoute benchmarks on everything. They are useless. I'm releasing Practical for non CAF ROMs in a month or so. Hold on. I'm not interested in performance with this. Don't over clock. Its pointless.

As I have mentioned, CAF and CAF only. Please read the OP

I know you don't support non-caf roms, but is the audio bug from swell with validus still there?
and what things are broken with no-caf roms? better use starkiller, right?

What are examples of caf roms?
I will be trying this today! On another note I'd like recommend the settings I use for the Interactive governor (as well as others) that's gotten me decent battery life but smooth operation:
Above_highspeed_delay: 20000 1700000:40000
Boost: 0
Boostpulse_duration: 80000
Go_highspeed_load: 50
Highspeed_freq: 1190400
io_is_busy: 0
min_sample_time: 60000
sampling_down_factor: 0
sync_freq: 0
target_loads: 80 1190400:99
timer_rate: 20000
up_threshold_any_cpu_freq: 0
up_threshold_any_cpu_load: 0
Edit: on CM I've turned off Align_windows and set Target_loads to just "50" for a bit of a boost.
Basically your device will stay at lower frequencies (for you underclockers out there..) while keeping the device smooth and fast. I'm writing this because I've noticed almost every kernel defaults to highspeed frequencies being 2.2ghz and the Go HighSpeed load is always 99 which basically nullifies the Above_highspeed delay.

Citrus, AOSPA, and Sultans ROM to name only a few. I'm working on my own

Great settings for Interactive! Most of the governors with my kernel are rather conservative. Smartmax Darkness and Alucard to name a few. CPUQuiet is also really good about deciding when and when not to plug cores so it leads to a rather conservative experience
